  1. Anyone think the finish had something to do with the clear lack of motivation being shown? I mean, they still did enough, but Pillman and Lane are capable of so much more. Eaton, as usual, stands out. Such a great year in 1990.
  2. One thing that gets me about some of these NJ juniors matches the more I watch them is the lack of emotion when it's not a rivalry. Once you get to somebody like Koji or Ohtani being a dick to Liger and the response, these matches can get really great. But when it's this kind of match, incredibly well-executed for the most part, cutting edge and fast-paced, but without any real emotion from either guy it loses a lot. That being said, the work was terrific as you would expect from these two.
  3. I think a lot of the time we look for "great" when we see a match like this. We hope we're going to see A-level performances that blow us away each and every time out because of the names. But sometimes you "only" get very good. And this is one of those times. Choshu's comeback is still incredible even if the match that led up to it could have used a little sprucing up. Maybe that takes away from Choshu's comeback though.
  4. Fun match with Lex again disproving the idea that he was never a worker. The more 1990 wrestling I watch the more I think Lex was just in bad with the boys backstage and his name is mud because of it.
  5. Eddie Gilbert should not have been involved here, but it kind of makes sense with Kowabunga's obsession with Jerry Lawler. Perfectly fine comedy match but I agree that Gilbert should not look this weak.
  6. Not used to seeing Ace this fired up. He goes a little far with the screaming before each forearm, but at least it's not bland Johnny Ace. Always love seeing the Fantastics show up in AJPW.
  7. This match was so drab it was hard to really get into it. They never really got into anything overly interesting outside of the whole elbow pad thing. And that never made it past the round it happened in.
  8. Race was bumping like a maniac, especially for as old as he was at the time.
  9. 1990 is making me into a Bobby Eaton fan for sure. Could have used a lot more in this match, but it wasn't a BAD match.
  10. I was wondering if it stood out to anyone how obvious it was that Ole was voicing the Black Scorpion. Anyway, kudos to Ole for more awful booking. Was his intent to dig the NWA into a massive hole they could never quite recover from? Because it seems like it worked.
  11. Gilbert is such a great talker. Why the big 2 never found a half decent use for him I don't understand.
  12. Good stuff from everybody, which is really surprising. Craig finally manages to act like a horrible thing that happens is...horrible. That's amazing! Akbar does really well too, and I'm not usually a fan of his work.
  13. Flair can sell me on just about anything I'm sure. No way I would have believed he could sell me a rematch with Luger for the U.S. belt is important, but Flair does it incredibly well. Imagine what he's be able to do with solid booking. Not that he's going to get that ever again in WCW.
  14. Lawler has got to be the most underrated promo of all time. How he can clearly get all of this across every time is beyond me. Idol music video makes me think Idol's time as a worker I want to watch is long gone. But he's a big Memphis name, so there it is.
  15. Didn't care for the way they booked the finish. I barely know who Demolition is and I can tell you who is in the ring at all times. The early match conversation between Vince and Roddy didn't sell me at all on Ax and Smash looking alike.
  16. I think Kobashi got a lot of respect from both Jumbo and Hansen for going balls to the wall 100% of the time. They both tend to give him way more than he should get when they get the chance.
  17. Perfect's selling of the discus punch was pretty amazing. Loved the Perfect/Brain stuff post-match as well.
  18. He is going to teach his son all of the honorable rudo values!
  19. Yeah, the cage match so there's no interference! Of course, once we mention that there somehow manages to be interference anyway when it happens.
  20. Really want Lawler vs. Taylor to pan out now. Some great promo wars AND wrestling matches could ensue there. So it probably won't happen.
  21. Good setup for a convoluted match. Toni's idea for getting Jeannie in the penalty box was pretty good too.
