  1. That's a great podcast right there. Fun to hear about what "aerial wrestling" was defined as in the 70s in Japan as well. Especially given how it took off later.
  2. A couple of those quotes were not great, but I have a feeling you could find some pretty damning Vince McMahon quotes if you wanted to go the other direction. The whole "Hulk handcuffing himself to the turnbuckle" bit was the only good part of the segment. I was wondering why WCW had the camera so close on that while it happened.
  3. Agree with all the above. These are consistently good, which is difficult to say about the rest of Raw.
  4. Great match with the exception of Shawn's oversell out of the corner where he actually trips over Kid following a dropkick. Really great work by both, Shawn in showing vulnerability and Kid shows he can look like a complete badass. Odd structure with the only real shine being Shawn backdropping Kid over the top during his entrance. still worked though.
  5. Dustin really got into playing Goldust. Easily one of the more entertaining gimmicks on the roster right now just for how off-kilter it was and how much Dustin didn't back down from it at all.
  6. As much as I would not be a wrestling fan now if I had dipped in at this point of Raw and Nitro (and both shows suck more than they don't right now), I find Vince's humor mostly falls flat here. Yes, that whole woman's shoe thing is beyond ridiculous and well-played here. I would argue that very often Vince's shows, for reasons not dealing with the talent, are equal or worse than Nitro more often than not and better maybe once. Maybe you clean up your own house before shit-talking the other guy's house.
  7. I was listening to a podcast the other day (can't remember which) and they mentioned that some of the non-Lucas folks who had been at LucasFilm from the start, his wife, etc. had remarked that every idea he had was 20% a good idea, he just needed people to strip away the 80% of the idea that made it bad. George Lucas was Vince Russo......
  8. I tried watching the 2024 product. They seem to have embraced the idea they need wrestling on their show. At the same time there is too much "entertainment" present while that is going on and it tends to hurt the matches. Not only that, everyone seems to be working in a way that is both sloppy and yet not impactful-looking at all. It's like they are performing some kind of overly rehearsed choreography with no kind of meaning to it.
  9. I'd say Meltzer throwing shade at Dutch while he was hospitalized is pretty despicable.
  10. Two words: No and NO. Let's keep the Warrior where he belongs, not on my TV screen.
  11. Still waiting on that Foley match. The WWF really liked to lay it on thick with the vignettes before somebody debuted, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
  12. A lot of this was really awkward. But most babyface vs. babyface stuff is without some hint of a turn. The being said, both Shawn and Diesel ahve been acting more than heelish enough to turn despite the fact that the crowd has failed to notice on both counts. So strange.
  13. This was a great TV match for sure. I am with whoever said the finish hurt it, but a lot of the offense in this was crisp and well-executed. Plus that DDT by Arn.
  14. So this high heel thing has gone way too far and needs to stop. I will say this is better than the rematch on the 2/19 Nitro by light years. If you thought Hogan's offense was way too heelish here, thats all he did besides punching in the rematch. I understand how Hogan got over in the first place, I just wish that at this point he understood it. He would sell and get sympathy before making a big comeback. Hard to do when you get 90% of the offense and you don't have a varied OR babyface style offense. Also, Hogan and Savage bullying Heenan is stupid. The heel Horsemen clearing out Bischoff and Mongo...they are heels and supposed to be bullies, especially to people who can't fight back. Hogan and savage are supposed to be the good guys. From what I've seen on Raw and Nitro the main event babyfaces are suffering from "being a heel is cooler than being a babyface"-itis before the NWO starts.
  15. I kind of get this in the Pillman character sense, but it really set off a lot of terrible things. The Arn/Sullivan stuff was awesome while it lasted.
  16. Total agreement with Soup. Not because what Vince is saying about Ted or anyone else is false, but for how tasteless they are. Not to mention that half of what Vince is saying about Ted overall could easily be applied to himself. On a related note, very weak episode of Raw. Nothing really landed.
  17. So this is the last one of these right? Also, that ad Vince wanted to put in the paper was beyond ridiculous.
  18. I'd agree this had a different feel to the WCW hotshot matches. Nash got put over big by both guys, which might be why. It seems like the WCW attempts for this kind of deal leave way too many excuses and go on a little too long. Here they keep it pretty short and sweet, leaving you wanting more.
  19. This match highlighted for me the great things about Michaels and why I don't like him at all at the exact same time. He takes 2 ridiculously overdone bumps. And, if I'm being 100% fair, they fit in the WWF wrestling style. I still fucking hate them. As much as I hate Kidman's powerbomb counter thingy or anytime anybody does the backflip lariat bump. It exposes the business. And often enough it ends up not really helping the guy on offense. Edit: Right before this I watched the main event tag match for Nitro and called Luger piledriving Hawk to no effect a minute before it happened. Yet another one of these. Since when did Luger consistently do a piledriver, much less as his second move in a match? The Yoko floor bump after the superkick I could make an argument for as a positive use of the same thing, as it makes the superkick look absolutely massive. Overall a fun tag that ties together a few weeks of (mostly bleh) stories well enough. I'm not super down on Diesel, it seems like he is motivated and lays his stuff in. Davey by this point doesn't do much for me and Yoko is mostly a one-note gimmick. Not his fault, as he seems like a guy who could go. Just he wasn't expected to do much beyond be big at this point.
  20. Very cool Raw match that was completely unexpected. I tend to agree that this match has better structure than most WCW cruiserweight matches. In1997/98 I would not have cared.
  21. Okay, so Savage has been wrestling every week with a messed up arm and nobody has taken advantage. Not even the dirtiest player in the game last week or Benoit, a supposed technician, this week. Kinda bad match layout if you ask me. That bump by Benoit on the missed tope was pretty tremendous/scary. Why is he getting so much of this match? Even if Savage likes the guy, there are better ways of making him look strong. Post-match stuff was pretty great. Something I have not thought about the Hogan/Flair stuff in the past 3 weeks. One question though. With Sullivan turning on Arn last week, how are his guys still cool with Flair? Or is that what the unicorn guy was trying to tell the Giant?
  22. High heeled shoe for the finish, reversing the "women are Flair's weakness" play. Beyond that this is Hogan/Flair by the numbers and not particularly inspiring. Also, first match? Since when was Hogan not main event regardless of titles? I guess he was feeling a little guilty here.
  23. Excited for Foley to join the Raw crew. Too much of what they have been airing the last few weeks is not that great. Or even good.
  24. While I am with Loss that many of the lines were indeed spot on, this is just petty, whiny bullshit. On top of that, it's petty, whiny bullshit about the same thing the WWF was known for. If WCW has gone on air bitching about how WWF was doing stuff that wasn't good for family TV in 1999/2000, it would pretty much be the same thing.
  25. I actually enjoyed this match as a respectful cruiserweight babyface match. They did flippy stuff, but did it in a way that didn't make it seem dumb or like that was why they were doing it. They teased a lot of spots (some that never came) with a few of them not coming for multiple teases. The post-match angle was...okay, I get it. You just had two guys put on a really good show with a pretty style, so have some thuggish looking dudes come in and brawl ugly, bring in a big guy to do a big guy thing and look brutish. Now your two small, athletic guys have to use technique, speed and guile to overcome great odds. But still, if that's where you go right away I am a little suspect of your storytelling chops until some other ways of getting the main story across come into play.
