I'm thinking I would like both of your promotions. Ever since I did my 2000s Japan watch I've had this idea that 20+ minute matches are very often bloated by unnecessary stuff when in the hands of all but the very high tier pro wrestlers. So my thinking is that ideally eighteen minutes or so is more than enough to tell the story that needs to be told. That and my recent love of tag wrestling makes me gravitate towards show like yours.

I'm digging all the tag action myself, but I have to think that Georgia and Southeastern have the 1 and 2 tag divisions as far as name value and actual tag matches being produced. I tend to save a lot of the marquee matchups (face vs. heel ones anyway) in 2 on 2 action for the big shows and run a lot of 6 mans.

Yeah I try to at least get one of my last two or three matches with a babyface win. If I can make the main a babyface win more often than not, it's a win for me.

The Japanese do not have capital letters. So all capital letters means it's in English, which is obviously the evil language since it is foreign. It's basically the exact same as how American wrestling works through a different mechanism.

I like seeing the main event feud from SW featured. The Fantastics moving up to tougher competition can only be good. The tag from SW looks really fun. I hope the fans started throwing garbage in the ring after that finish! BOO! Really though, great way to get the fans wanting to see JYD get one up on Ted.

International Wrestling, August 19th, 1983 (Taped August 17th,1983 in the Colisée de Rimouski, Rimouski, QC ) 4,300 fans 0:00 - 11:30 The opening credits roll and we cut to the ring with Bobby Kay waiting for his opponent. Goldie Rogers comes out of the back with an arrogant walk. He makes a point not to allow fans to touch him, especially his flowing blond locks. Jacques, Sr. is not impressed in his description of this. Goldie Rogers vs. Bobby Kay Rogers dominates from the start, but Kay makes a comeback bid a few minutes in that ends abruptly when Rogers baits him outside and quickly rolls back into the ring. Kay can’t mount a second comeback after Rogers attacks him on the way back in and ends up falling victim to a neckbreaker for the three count. Goldie Rogers by pinfall after a neckbreaker 4:27 Rogers celebrates before having words with some fans about how ugly they are before tossing his hair and posing on his way to the back. Jacques, Sr. Is in the ring where the Tongan terrors and Lou Albano are now headed. Albano approaches Jacques, Sr. with a big smile on his face. Jacques, Sr.: I’ve never seen you so happy, Mr. Albano. Albano: My monsters are back! I miss having them here, Rougeau. I’m so happy they are back that nobody can ruin my day. Not you, not these fans- The fans try to boo Albano out of the building. Albano: You see, Rougeau. Today is a great day. And now it’s time for my monsters to do what they do best. Beat whatever poor slobs put in front of them unconscious! Jacques, Sr. shakes his head as he leaves the ring and makes his way back to the announce table. The Gerrard Brothers come out to a small positive response, and the Tongans jump them the instant they reach ringside. Jacques, Sr. puts over the courage of the Gerrards for getting in the ring with the Tongan Terrors. He then describes Rogers’ earlier victory as “a great showing in his debut.” The Tongan Terrors vs. The Gerrard Brothers The Tongans dominate this all the way through, destroying Alex and Tim Gerrard with reckless abandon. Mercifully, they finish off Tim with a savate kick from King Tonga followed by a Tonga John headbutt from the top rope. The two big Tongan wrestlers continue the assault at Albano’s urging until the Can Am Express come out with chairs to run them off and help the Gerrards up. Tonga John over Tim Gerrard by pinfall after a savate kick/flying headbutt combination 4:17 Jacques, Sr. is thankful that LaFon and Brunzell were able to save the Gerrards any further punishment at the hands of the Terrors as the ring clears. He runs down the rest of the matches on the card before we go to commercial. Commercial Break 11:30 - 21:30 We return from commercial to a shot of Jacques Sr. as he recaps the show so far. Invader 1 emerges from the curtain to a mix of cheers and boos after the camera cuts to the ring. Gino Brito comes out to a massive pop. Jacques, Sr. commends Invader 1 on his part in running off Lefebvre and Poisson last week, but wonders if calling Gino Brito out was wise. Gino Brito vs. Invader 1 The match starts out and continues as a brawl, with Invader 1 and Brito both wading in with lefts and rights. The crowd begins the match booing Invader 1, but warm up to him as the brawl continues to go back and forth. Brito catches a rough headlock, but that doesn’t last long as he runs into an Invader 1 dropkick off the ropes. Invader 1 locks on an equally rough headlock and ends up being hiptossed off the ropes. Both men frustrated, they go back to punching each other back and forth. Mad Dog Lefebvre and Gilles Poisson rush the ring and attack both, causing referee Andre Roy to call for the bell. Invader 1 and Brito end up clearing Lefebvre and Poisson from the ring one each before turning around and glaring at one another. The two men relax and shake hands, Brito raising the arm of Invader 1 with the crowd cheering loudly. Match thrown out due to both men being attacked 7:18 Jacques, Sr. excitedly puts over Invader 1 as a great addition to the IWA and a potential ally for Gino Brito as we go to commercial with both in the ring soaking in the cheers of the fans. Commercial Break 21:30 - 37:00 The camera is on Jacques, Sr. at the announce table and he recaps the finish and post-match events of Brito vs. Invader 1. The crowd starts booing and the camera cuts to Mad Dog Lefebvre and Gilles Poisson making their way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. makes a point of calling this a dangerous veteran team that will do absolutely anything to win a match. Mad Dog Vachon and Jim Brunzell come out to a HUGE pop. Jacques, Sr. talks about Vachon’s history in Quebec and Brunzell’s athleticism and skill. Mad Dog Vachon & Jim Brunzell vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre & Gilles Poisson The Mad Dogs start things off, both again trying to bite the other once they have an advantage and open up a wound on the other’s forehead. Both end up bleeding but not wanting to tag out. Vachon ends up in the wrong corner and the heels work over his cut. Brunzell tries to rally the crowd behind Vachon from the apron as the Mad Dog starts ignoring punches from Poisson. Poisson tries going to the eyes, but Vachon is quicker on the draw and rakes Poisson’s eyes before unloading with big lefts. He drives Poisson back into the corner where Brunzell eagerly takes the tag and starts destroying Poisson. Lefebvre is dropkicked out of the ring as he comes in to help. Brunzell is on fire in the ring as Vachon goes around the ring to attack Lefebvre. Brunzell misses a dropkick as Poisson catches the ropes in the ring and the big man starts pounding away on his back. Vachon breaks from his attack on Lefebvre when he hears the crowd react and heads back into the ring only to have his head rammed into the ringpost by Lefebvre. Lefebvre slams Vachon on the floor and joins Poisson in the ring beating down Brunzell. Head referee Adrian Desbois gets Lefebvre into his corner after checking on Vachon at ringside. Poisson locks on a bearhug and carries Brunzell over into his corner where Lefebvre can tag him before setting him on the top turnbuckle. Lefebvre climbs up to the second rope and hits a superplex on a groggy Brunzell for the three as Vachon begins to stir. Lafebvre rolls out of the ring to attack Vachon with Poisson close behind, but Phil Lafon and Armand Rougeau run out from the back to stop any kind of post-match attack by Lefebvre and Poisson. Mad Dog Lefebvre over Jim Brunzell by pinfall after a bearhug/second rope superplex 13:47 Jacques, Sr. is relieved that his son and Phil Lafon had the presence of mind to interrupt what could have been a career-ending attack on Mad Dog Vachon after the brutal attack by Lefebvre as we go to commercial. Commercial Break 37:00 - 54:00 We come back from commercial to a shot of the ring as Jacques Rougeau is coming out of the back to a thunderous roar. He is one half of the Canadian International Tag Team champions and wears the gold to prove it. Jacques, Sr. calls his son “a great pro wrestler in every facet.” Randy Rose emerges from the curtain to loud boos, accompanied by Eddie Creatchman. Jacques Sr. puts over Rose as a complete wrestler as well, saying he matches up well with Jacques. Jacques Rougeau vs. Randy Rose Jacques comes out firing with right hands and follows with a dropkick to send Rose out of the ring. Rose confers with Creatchman before returning to the ring, firing back with right hands only to block the return punch from Rougeau and kick at his left knee. Rose works over Jacques’ knee for a while before starting in on the midsection. Jacques comes firing back with punches, but Rose goes right back to the knee. Jacques grabs Rose’s left arm and starts working on it after a missed elbow drop. Jacques is doing everything he can to avoid standing on his left leg and still do damage while Rose keeps fighting to get back to his feet. Rose gets to his feet and kicks Jacques leg out from under him, forcing Jacques to roll outside about ten feet from Creatchman. Creatchman distracts Rougeau and Rose lands a boot from the apron before hopping down and slamming Jacques’ head into the apron. Rose wants to suplex Jacques in, but Jacques lands behind him, almost falling over on the bad leg. Rose goes behind Jacques, who goes to the ropes, but ends up caught in an O’Connor roll by Rose for three. Randy Rose by pinfall with an O’Connor roll 14:22 Jacques Sr. begrudgingly commends Rose on a match well-wrestled while Rose and Creatchman celebrate in the ring as we go to commercial. Jacques, Sr.: You can say that, Eddie Creatchman, but even the best wrestlers get beat. I won’t go so far as to call Mr. Rose lucky, but I will say that it’s a matchup that can go either way. Creatchman: Whatever you want to say doesn’t bother me one bit, Rougeau. Nobody cares what you think anyway. The crowd boos very loudly. Creatchman: You all need to show me and these men some respect. Randy Rose just dethroned one of your heroes! The great Jacques Rougeau will never be the same again! That Hart vs. Funk parking lot match was great! Hirata and Cobra is shaping up to be a nice feud.

Ah well, back to the drawing board for Alfred again. Fuller shows up and makes those damn Bombers pay! I'm pretty sure the Assassins are going to protest their loss and Cook is going to call his match a win. And you know, that Tully is gonna have the crowd begging for the Fabs to kick his ass by the time things are said and done.

I don't care about who drops out or stays in. I am booked and written up until October, so getting new guys in now seems pretty pointless. I was just pointing out that over half the people we started with are infrequent visitors to this folder.

I think a lot of people are burnt out. It seems like maybe four or five people check the sub-folder on a daily basis anymore. I'm trying to figure if we've heard from Rocket Crypt or Wahoo's Leg in the last month or not and coming up with an answer of "no."

I feel like it wold have ended up on some tape trader's comp after they found it just for the novelty and sheer amount of guys. The caption would have read like, "I never would have believed that there was a New Japan vs. Maple Leaf elimination tag from 1983 out there, but I came across one on this commercial tape. It's almost two hours and drags at points but I had to include it."

I'm actually written out all the way to my big October 1st show on house shows and TV. I have all the TV outlined up until December, as well as the December 31st show, so I know exactly here I'm going. I agree that knowing where you are going helps you decide how to get there.

Both Lawler and the RnRs are having a rough time of it. Here's hoping they can turn things around!

Man, I bet fake Johnny went to that show and loved it. Great stuff, Parv, I especially liked Murdoch, Steamboat/Savage and the way you handled Hansen/Brody.

I tend to do two or three matches and then something else for a while. It's gotten me through ten discs of the AWA with only a few dalliances into Schneider comps for a bit. At my peak I could do three or four late 90s All Japan matches in a row, but that's a lot to digest in such a short time. I try to keep it a little easier.

I'm not sure if I trust Smirnoff. If wrestling has taught me anything it's that Russians are liars and very tricky.

Really wish Funk was sticking around. Every use of him so far has me wanting more in that role. Sheik/Flair needs to go on for a while. I'm liking the Vachons vs. Taylor/Guerrero feud also.
