  1. I enjoy the team of High Octane already. Rheingans and Brickhouse getting over as heels in different ways is great. Ramblers don't get a win without Jones, but they definitely made a statement. The Professor is up to his old tricks, trying to hurt Gama this time. Just seems like Gama Singh is less willing to play by the rules in return. The Twosome retain in good heel fashion, not convincingly. I'm waiting to see how Bad News reacts to help. He's not historically a guy who was friendly. Great brawl between Hansen and Brown BTW. Snuka got robbed, although I'm sure DiBiase will claim it was all legit.
  2. Your Cornette interviews are always entertaining. The U.S. Express vs. the Midnights would be a good feud. Not the level of the RnRs, but what is? Wright Murdoch and Lawler sounds like a great match and the interview Murdoch and Wright did set it up perfectly. Bob Armstrong playing to the common people won't save him against Nikita. Who IS the Demon/Devil's Duo's manager?? Still loving the idea of JYD vs. Bundy. Great promo from Lawler. It really captured the way he would weave little jokes into his promos.
  3. I don't think you can limit it to just those ways singly. Take your example of Bret vs. Stone Cold. It had a great build and is extremely important historically, but it is also considered a great match in terms of the ring work. Taking both views, the ring work only reinforced the story being told in the build. To me that actually takes great in-ring wrestling and enhances it. So in effect, when you combine the two ways of looking at it you get more of the whole. You also have to take into account that ring work is far more subjective than how important a wrestler or match is historically. Again in the instance of Bret/SCSA there could be many fans who disagree that the work was as good as the build.
  4. Crockett being sad about Rock Riddle being gone is sweet. Bull being fired up is a good start to the show. High Octane off to a good start. Snuka and Rheingans both with good promos to keep their feuds going. Brown vs. Hansen? Sign me right up!! Link and Orndorff is quite the team. Against Lewin and Singh that's a hard-hitting match. Seems like Idol isn't done yet with Fuller. Brickhouse vs. SBS should be a great feud. Good promo too. Johnson and Cooley valiantly trying to get their titles back continues to keep them over with the fans. I have seen the Flame promo that inspired that one and love that you re-did it. I love Rock Riddle sending a postcard. Warriors and Blondes is a good feud for the Warriors to come back with. Still really looking forward to Brown vs. Hansen. St. Clair vs. Rich sounds like an interesting feud. The great part about Sinclair is you have to imagine how he'd gel in the ring with all of these guys. Jones and Kirchner with good promos. Even without his title Kernodle is going to be a force in MACW. Holy crap Gantner really brought his A game tonight. Great way to end the show, builds a lot of anticipation for Nashville.
  5. WWC House Show 8/17/86 Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium, Bayamon, Puerto Rico Ricky Santana & Jos LeDuc vs. Owen Hart & Abdullah Tamba w/Chicky Starr This actually started out as a wrestling match. Between four guys in blood feuds who had bandages on their foreheads already. This broke down at several points with all four men bleeding. It always came back to the ring in time for referee Ricky Vargas to not quite call off the match. In the end, Tamba hit his tope on LeDuc and Owen rolled Santana up with a handful of tights to score the win. Santana sent Owen stumbling towards the back with a rush of punches and chops after Owen kept the attack up post-match. Brad Batten vs. The Crusher w/Barrabas The Crusher is on the attack before the bell and Brad is back on his heels for the first part of the match. Batten makes a good comeback only to have Barrabas trip him up and put him back on the defensive. Brad again fights back and makes it count with a reverse crossbody off the second rope for the three count. Barrabas doesn't order any kind of attack, he just laughs and points at his own leg then Brad Batten before leading the Crusher out. Bart Batten vs. Jonathan Boyd w/Barrabas Bart is still limping from last night, but not as severely. Boyd goes right after the leg and Bart is in big trouble. Bart makes a big comeback near the end and Barrabas jumps on the apron, but Bart ignores Barrabas and rolls Boyd up. Barrabas tries to get into the ring only to find that Brad never left and has been hiding under the ring. Brad grabs Barrabas' legs and referee Tomas Marin counts three. The Battens celebrate with the crowd after making sure there are no post-match attacks. The Caribbean Express & Dutch Mantell vs. Los Mercenarios & Bobby Jaggers Six man tag or pier six brawl? Both here as there is no order to any of it. Four of these men have bandages on their heads when the match starts and all 6 are bleeding by the end. By the end I mean when security finally separates everyone and we can move on, as this is a double countout. Hercules Ayala vs. Invader 1 The two men shake hands before the match and it is more even than you would think given the size difference. Ayala tries to set Invader up for the figure four, but Invader knows the leg is the target. Invader can't get the sleeper on Ayala and both men get frustrated and start brawling. Ayala does work over the leg, but no figure four and Invader makes a comeback. Ayala rolls Invader 1 up in an inside cradle for the win. The men hug and raise each other's arms for the crowd after the match. Los Super Medicos & Carlitos Colon vs. Victor the Bodyguard & Los Primos Starr Medicos & Colon started off hot, with all three heels taking their turn getting beat up. Colon is hit with a Victor low blow and the heels go to work on him. The Starrs use distracions to keep referee Victor Quinonez away from their illegal double teams. Colon tags in to Medico 3, who clears the ring. The heels regroup and Chicky distracts Medico 3 (and Quinonez) while Starr hits him from behind. The heels work Medico 3 over and Quinonez even misses a legal tag due to a distraction by Chicky Starr. Medico 3 does tag in Medico 1, who really brings the fury on the Starrs. Colon is after Victor, hitting him with a low blow before putting him in the figure four. Medico 1 rolls Chicky up for the three count as the building erupts.
  6. Poor Bobby on Challenge. That Pennsylvania loop looks awesome. Every match is something I would want to see. Well, besides Bravo/Atlas and the Russians. Valentine attacking Hennig continues a feud that I love. Yes! Hennig vs. Valentine next week! Great first meeting between Blade Runners and Nasties. Love this feud for both teams. I love the asshole Hulk promo sulking about Tunney. So true to life. Man, I wonder what Roma did wrong. Or is this just another scheme? Savage getting what he wants by using Heenan is awesome. Can't wait for that cage match!
  7. dawho5 replied to Grimmas's topic in Promotions
Dump going after Nagayo despite not being the match is spot on. Dump is such a glorious bitch when she's in character.
  8. WWC House Show 8/16/86 Rafael A. Mangual Coliseum, Mayaguez, Puerto Rico Bart Batten vs. Jonathan Boyd w/Barrabas Bart took the fight right to Boyd, surprising the veteran brawler with his intensity from the opening bell. Barrabas was instrumental in Boyd taking control of the match several times. Batten fired up near the end and ended up going outside of the ring with Boyd down and attacking Barrabas. This cost him as Boyd came off the ring apron with a double axe handle to Bart's back. Boyd finished Bart off by rolling him up with his feet on the ropes. Barrabas surprisingly did not order an attack, just sent a tired Boyd to the back with some instructions and the Crusher came out. Brad Batten vs. The Crusher w/Barrabas Boyd, who had hidden somewhere backstage, attacked Brad on his way to the ring by diving at the back of his leg. This caught the attention of Bart, who attacked Boyd and ran him off before tending to his brother. Brad needed to be helped to the ring by his brother, but refused to skip the match. The Crusher worked over the leg and Brad fought valiantly against the 270 pounder, but in the end was defeated. Barrabas was smiling as he called the Crusher off and they made their way out of the arena. Mercenario 2 & Bobby Jaggers w/Chicky Starr vs. Dutch Mantell & Invader 1 Jaggers ambushes Dutch on the way to the ring. The only participants not brawling near the entranceway are Merc 2 and Invader 1. Invader 1 low blows Merc 2 after a match that sees Chicky Starr tilt the match in favor of Merc 2 several times. After the last Invader makes his signature comeback, selling along the way. He clamps on the sleeper and Chicky hits the ring. Dutch had hit Jaggers with a set of brass knuckles and the sight of a bloodied Dutch Mantell approaching stopped Chicky from interfering. Invader 1 gets the win by submission. Mercenario 1 & Abdullah Tamba w/Chicky Starr vs. Jos LeDuc & Carlitos Colon Wild beginning sees LeDuc charge at Tamba only for Merc 1 to hit him from behind. Colon is quick to engage Merc 1 and the brawl is on. Both Tamba and LeDuc are bloody again within minutes. Referee Ricky Vargas regains control of the situation, but this ends up causing Colon to be the victim of a double team. The heels work Colon over and Chicky taunts him from the outside. Colon makes a short comeback only to have Tamba cut it off illegally. And then again. Finally Colon hits a low blow on Merc 1 and then another on Tamba to get the tag in. LeDuc is absolutely unstoppable, tearing through Merc 1 and then turning his attention to Tamba. Tamba falls victim to the one-armed backbreaker and Chicky is up on the apron. Until Colon punches him right off. LeDuc covers Tamba for the three. The crowd is going wild as Merc 1 is checking on Chicky Starr and LeDuc and Colon celebrate. The Caribbean Express vs. Los Primos Starr (C) for the WWC Caribbean Tag Team Championship The Express is superbly smooth with their early teamwork and the Starrs can't compare. First Ron, then Chicky, then both can't keep up and they take a time out. They talk it over and Ron is back in the ring with Perez and he tries to give Chicky a shot at Perez's back. to no avail, Chicky takes a series of punches and so does Ron. It goes like this until los Mercenarios show up at ringside and distract the Express, allowing Chicky to hit a low blow on Perez. The Starrs work Perez over and cut him off getting to his corner. They rip the bandage from Monday's cut off and go to work on that. Finally Castillo hits a low blow on Chicky and tags, but los Mercenarios hit the ring for the DQ. It's looking grim for the Express when los Super Medicos come running out to ringside with baseball bats and all four heels retreat. Chicky is furious, screaming at los Super Medicos as he heads for the back. As far as the crowd throwing garbage, seemed like they enjoyed throwing shit at heels. Chicky and Invader 3 have an awesome scaffold match, probably the best I have ever seen, during which the crowd is hitting Chicky with garbage while he's on the scaffold. Also remember that Chicky was at ringside when Abby blinded Colon earlier this year and Colon still does not have the Universal title as a result. Chicky's denials all had that "Colon had it coming" sound to them as well, so I can't imagine he's going to be overly popular right now.
  9. Oooh, sanctions for Jacques. Is the NWA going to be the bad guy here? I like two matches as a backdrop for the Kokina/OMG feud that don't involve both of them. Good way to keep fan investment without giving it away. Borne has been awesome for you and I hope he stays on his hot streak. MS-1 with a big win. Maeda and Inoki should go over if they are in town. Embry is a babyface now yes? Hillbilly Jim gets a good squash win. That Owen, can't believe he has strayed so far from the right path. Fun preview of BattleBowl. Who is that masked man???
  10. I like the squash wins for guys who needed them in Nashville. Devastation and Doom would have been one Hell of a battle. Poor Iceman, yet another victim in NIkita's path. Surprised Baby Doll is still looking to make Landell angry. KKB getting a win over the Dog is big. I know JYD will have something to say there. Also, good call on going with KKB as the obstacle to DiBiase here. JYD might not be able to go 10+ anymore, but you don't need a long match with KKB and JYD. Awesome finish to the main that would have had the Nashville crowd on their feet! Your build of both Boone and Atlantis has been awesome. Looks like the U.S. Express have their first major feud. Wright must be feeling better from all the fan love he gets every week. You know, all those fans who never show up to the arena who love Ron Wright and send their well wishes and money. Run away Corny, once Dick Slater gets done with you there won't be much left. Very Memphis finish to that Taylor/Murdoch match. My guess is the same as spaldoni's, we are going to see Lawler vs. Murdoch. YAY!! Midnights get some tag gold. Finally!! That Alabama crowd might have actually cheered a little when hometown boy Bobby Eaton got his hand raised.
  11. Goto keeps on a roll when he's not fighting tip top guys. Los Infernales have been quietly building up the wins. Good to see Jacques and Armand both get wins. I have loved Kernodle's run, but you did so much with that match to set things up. Jacques and Kernodle have a ready made feud and both can loosely claim some kind of rivalry with Garvin. NOt only that, but Garvin has Embry right there to deal with. Lots of options and a crazy, memorable match to boot! Great job.
  12. WWC House Show 8/15/86 Baranquitas, Puerto Rico Ricky Santana & Jos LeDuc vs. Owen Hart & Abdullah Tamba Street Fight Think this one was a brawl? It was. The two pairings you would expect paired off and never switched. Santana was wearing cowboy boots to start with. He didn't finish the match with shoes. Hart brought a weightlifting belt and at one point produced brass knuckles. The punch he used them for missed. LeDuc brought an axe handle and Tamba brought Chicky's baseball bat with him. All four were bloody by the end and Santana pinned Hart after a flying attack with the last remaining cowboy boot he had. Bart Batten vs. the Crusher w/Barrabas Barrabas was on the apron yelling right away and the Crusher took advantage of a distracted Bart to get the early advantage. Bart made his comeback and used a headlock to control the bigger Crusher. Barrabas constantly complained about choking and kept jumping up on the apron until Bart decked him and he went flying off. The Crusher took advantage and worked Bart over, but Bart never stopped and rolled the Crusher up for nearfalls several times. He punched his way back into it and hit a running crossbody that just kept the Crusher down for three. Brad was smart enough to roll out of the ring and away from danger, holding his arms up in victory as Barrabas ranted at him from the ring. Brad Batten vs. Jonathan Boyd w/Barrabas Boyd started slowly this time, working holds with Batten until an opening seemed to present itself for a big right hand. That Batten quickly blocked and countered with a big right of his own. Batten controlled for a short while until Barrabas tripped him up and Boyd went to work. Barrabas distracted referee Tomas Marin and allowed Boyd to illegaly choke Batten when a comeback looked imminent. Batten did get his comeback, but Barrabas cracked him across the back with a chair while Boyd had Marin distracted and Boyd hit the three point clothesline for the three count. Barrabas ordered boyd to continue the attack, but Bart and the Caribbean Express hit the ring quickly to make the save. Los Mercenarios & Bobby Jaggers w/Chicky Starr vs. Dutch Mantell & Los Invaders (2 & 3) Jaggers clearly had los Mercenarios going after Mantell in this match. Jaggers outright refused to get in the ring with Mantell, but would do everything in his power to distract Dutch and allow one of the Mercs to get in a cheap shot. It did work and Dutch took a Hellacious beating, but managed to come back and make the tag to Invader 3. Although at a size disadvantage, Invader 3 was able to keep up the attack on all 3 opponents. That is, until Chicky was able to hold him up long enough for both Mercs to double team him. In the resulting chaos Jaggers was able to hit the hangman's neckbreaker and cover Invader 3 for the win. Jaggers taunted Dutch Mantell on his way to the back. Mantell had to be held back by Invader 2 and reminded of the fallen Invader 3. Victor the Bodyguard & Los Primos Starr vs. Los Super Medicos & Carlitos Colon The Starrs jumped Medico 3 before the bell and worked him over along with Victor. Medico 3 made the tag to Medico 1 after low blowing Ron. Medico 1 had things going his way until Chicky Starr used a low blow to change the momentum again. The Starrs worked over Medico 1 and cut off his path to a tag more than a few times. He fianlly crawled beween the legs of Ron and made the tagt to Colon, who came in and decimated Victor and the Starrs. Colon got Victor alone in the ring and set him up for the figure four. Victor didn't last long in the hold and submitted, with both Ron and Chicky pulling him out of the ring after the loss. The Starrs were pelted with garbage on their way to the back.
  13. DiBiase proves to be much smarter than Watts gives him credit for. That tag looks great BTW. Once again, I know Wright is going to have an answer to this. And not one that anybody is going to like. U.S. Express is really getting over with this angle. And they would in Watts country. Iceman's confidence is great, but this is Nikita we're talking about. Doom vs. Devastation is a good, Watts style hoss feud. That joint event between MACW and UWF is going to be great, can't wait to see what you guys do. Seriously? JJ & Brad against the Midnights? Your tag team division is so damn loaded sir. I love it. Also, did Corny really think Slater would take this lying down?
  14. Really good 6-man tag opener with Japan vs. Mexico. Despite the fact that nobody in your crowd knew who any of them were it would have had the crowd rolling. I like the contrast that follows with the slow, deliberate pace of Lee and Graham. Big, big win for the PYTs and I can't wait for the rest of the card.
  15. (Originally airing in Spanish on WAPA Channel 4 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This broadcast is translated to English where applicable.) The opening montage featuring highlights of Carlos Colon, Chicky Starr, Invader 1, Invader 2, Invader 3, Abdullah the Butcher, Hercules Ayala, Bam Bam and Dutch Mantell plays. Carlos Colon doing a cartwheel and coming up fists at the ready leads to the WWC logo as the music ends. NWA and Capitol Sports Presenta Los Campeones De La Lucha Libre Con Tus Luchadores Favoritos De Fama Mundial Rickin Sanchez and Hugo Savinovich sit smiling at the commentary desk in Coliseo Municipal Pedro Rodriguez Gaya De Catano. They talk about the matches today and Rickin is incensed that Ron Starr somehow got a chance at the prestigious NWA National Title. Hugo pipes in with something about winning making opportunities. Rickin, as he often does, comments on the way the Starrs win their matches. Armandito Salgado vs. Victor the Bodyguard w/Chicky Starr Victor is in charge most of the match with his brawling. Salgado gets cut off with an eye rake and a boot to the gut. Victor follows with a DDT for the three count. Chicky makes sure the fans know his man won after the match, which gets the reaction you think it does. Rickin doesn't understand the need to go after Salgado's eyes, but puts Victor over as a dangerous competitor. We'll be right back with Owen Hart at the desk and TNT in action. (Commercial Break) Highlights are shown of the Santana/Hart interactions last week. Owen Hart complains about the way Ricky Santana has been stalking him all over Puerto Rico. He says that the man is obsessed. Hart repeats his claim that Santana will not get any more title shots after this one, so he better back off after he loses the match on September 20th. If he doesn't, Hart knows somebody with very good lawyers who will make his life miserable. Rickin and Hugo talk about Owen's behavior since the Bruce Hart incident. Then they talk about Jos LeDuc's feud with Abdullah Tamba. Mr. Z vs. Jos LeDuc LeDuc controls the intire match with his power offense and pins Z after a one-armed backbreaker. Hugo tells us the Sports Shop is next!!! Rickin seems less than enthused. (Commercial Break) Sports Shop The Sports Shop intro plays and we cut to Victor the Bodyguard and Abdullah Tamba on the Sports Shop set. A voice-over by Hugo Savinovich plays. Hugo: Welcome, ladies and gentlemen to the most watched wrestling program in Puerto Rico!! This is Chicky's Sports Shop and I'm pleased to announce your host, the most charismatic, best dressed man in Puerto Rico today, Chicky Starr!! Chicky walks in wearing his athletic gear and his WWC Caribbean Tag Team Title over his shoulder. He picks up a microphone and sits down. Chicky: Welcome ladies and gentlemen to another edition of Chicky's Sports Shop. I do that so much better than Rickin Sanchez ever could! There is a lot to cover this week and a great guest too. You can all send in your letters to thank me. First up, Abdullah Tamba had an impressive week, facing Carlitos Colon all four days. And there he is behind me without a scratch on him! Chicky pauses and gives Tamba a hand. Chicky: The Castillo and Perez brats have been attacking los Mercenarios at every opportunity, but I can tell you that it will get them nowhere. Los Mercenarios have nothing to fear from a couple of kids who grew up with silver spoons. This brings me to los Super Medicos. Through more cheating and underhanded tactics than you can imagine, those two idiots managed to just barely get their two wins and keep their title shot. Here's a little taste. A highlight package of every illegal tactic used by los Super Medicos last week shows. It's not all that long. Chicky: So you see ladies and gentlemen, these two men are hardly the white knights you had hoped for. Not taht they stand a chance against Ronnie and I in a tag match anyway. Speaking of Ronnie, he's got a match for the NWA National Heavyweight Championship this week. So not only will los Primos Starr have tag team gold, Ronnie will have singles gold. Maybe I should take that NWA Light Heavyweight title from Invader 3. It would look much better on me, that's for sure. Chicky pauses and nods off-screen. Chicky: And now my guests tonight, El Profe and TNT, just recently back from his recent completely undeserved suspension. Profe and TNT come in and shake hands with Chicky. All three sit down. Chicky: I suppose it's good to have your man back in Puerto Rico. Profe: It is, but all those fans around Puerto Rico are going to have to wait to see him in person. He traveled to the United States after his suspension and impressed enough people that they aren't sure when they want to let him leave for good. If they do at all. Chicky: It sounds like TNT has been busy! Profe: Yes, and given that the people in Minnesota seem to appreciate the talents that TNT brings, I am inclined to let him stay there. Chicky: I would be too. The WWC's suspension policy is ridiculous. Wrestlers get hurt. Profe: I know this. You know this. I don't think the fans around Puerto Rico deserve to see TNT anyway. Chicky: You and I both know that's true. The fans at these shows are awful. The worst kind of garbage. Did you know I got hit with a few rocks last week? Profe: Sounds about right. I know of another group of people that throws things when they get upset. Chicky: Oh? Profe: Children. At least they have an excuse. Chicky: (laughing) I suppose they do. We're out of time ladies and gentlemen. I hope you're okay with going back to the boring part of the show. Although Ronnie is in the main event tonight, so stick around! Ric Flair's sign-off plays as Profe, TNT and Chicky walk off the set. Rickin, as always, has nothing good to say about Chicky Starr. Or El Profe. Hugo agrees on El Profe. Highlights are shown of all of the matches involving the Battens fighting Boyd and the Crusher last week. Rickin then goes on to have nothing good to say about Barrabas. He mentions that Boyd and the Crusher both lost their singles matches to the Battens last night. Los Assassins vs. Jonathan Boyd & the Crusher w/Barrabas Boyd and the Crusher use crisp teamwork and illegal double teams while Barrabas has referee Victor Quinonez distracted to control. A Crusher big boot stops an Assassin comeback in it's tracks. Crusher grabs Assassin in a reverse bearhug after tagging Boyd, who hits a three point clothesline for the three. Rickin and Hugo talk about the ongoing series of singles matches between the Battens and Boyd and the Crusher. Rickin highlights the Battens resilience and toughness while Hugo highlights the size, strength and experience advantage of Boyd and the Crusher. Both agree that Barrabas will be a factor at ringside. (Commercial Break) Highlights of the matches last week featuring Abdullah Tamba and Jos LeDuc are shown. Rickin announces that a singles match between LeDuc and Tamba has been added to the card on September 20th. Jos LeDuc is at the desk and he has a challenge for Abdullah Tamba. He wants tag team matches with Tamba across the ring next week. Tamba can have Chicky Starr and whoever else come out to ringside for the matches, but it won't help him. In fact, LeDuc wants to make sure Chicky Starr sees him beat Tamba in person. Los Tejanos vs. The Caribbean Express The Express is all teamwork and legal double teams to control. A running clothesline by Castillo cuts off a comeback by Tejano 1. Castillo tags Perez and whips Tejano into a powerslam by Perez. Perez follows up with el coqui (standing victory roll) for the three count. Rickin and Hugo put over the Caribbean Express as a promising young tag team. They talk about how they struggle to keep their coll and it can cost them. Highlights are shown of the loss on July 5th to los Mercenarios. (Commercial Break) Highlights are shown of los Super Medicos six-man tags against los Primos Starr. More complete highlights than on the Sports Shop. Medicos talk about how Chicky Starr is starting to get worried for the tag titles and they have to watch their backs more than ever. They know that Chicky Starr will send somebody after them soon and it won't be where anyone sees it. they also know that the next time they get the Starrs in the ring they have their number. The results prove it and the title reign of Ron and Chicky Starr is coming to a close. Rickin and Hugo talk about los Super Medicos building momentum. They also talk about how los Mercenarios were instrumental in the Starrs winning the titles in the first place. Mr. X & Y vs. Los Mercenarios The Mercs brawl their way to controlling the match with zero regard for the rules or referee Tomas Marin. A Mr. X comeback is cut off by a knee to the gut from Merc 2 and clubbering from both Mercs. Merc 1 slams X down and Merc 2 hits the ropes for a big running senton that gets three. The Mercs continue after the match with the Caribbean Express rushing out to stop the attack. A brawl breaks out. Rickin and Hugo talk about this being the norm across Puerto Rico and highlights are shown of the Express and los Mercenarios brawling at house shows. (Commercial Break) Highlights of last week's bloody violence (both got the back of their head busted open by the other's riding crop) between Dutch Mantell and Bobby Jaggers are shown. Dutch Mantell is at the desk and he says this isn't even close to finished. Bobby Jaggers hasn't felt enough pain to pay for what he did. He also says he's been keeping an eye on los Mercenarios, because their day is coming. He talks again about Jaggers and how he might not make it to the cage match the way things are going. Rickin and Hugo talk briefly about the Mantell/Jaggers feud before talking about the main event. Hugo doesn't think that Rickin is going to like this match. Ron Starr w/Chicky Starr vs. Arthur J. Crews w/Rock Riddle (C) for the NWA National Heavyweight Championship This is a mirror match with both Crews and Ron willing to take any shortcut they need to. And Riddle and Chicky willing to do whatever they have to in order to get their man ahead. Things get heated as the match goes on and everyone is frustrated, but finally Chicky and Riddle get tired of their cat-and-mouse game of interfering and countering the other's interference. Oddly enough, the fans start to back Ron and Chicky during the match. Crews rolls Ron up with a handful of tights for the three. Ron is upset with this. Chicky talks to him and the four men shake hands. Chicky is talking with Riddle as Ron discusses the match with Crews. The fans are not at all amused. Rickin is incensed (big surprise) with Chicky and Hugo can see why a mutual respect would have grown between the wrestlers and managers in that match. We sign off with the card for September 20th in Ponce. Main Event: Abdullah the Butcher vs. Carlitos Colon for the vacant WWC Universal Heavyweight Title in a Fire Match Los Super Medicos vs. Los Primos Starr (C) for the WWC Caribbean Tag Team Championships Hercules Ayala vs. Bam Bam Bigelow (C) for the WWC Caribbean Heavyweight Championship Ricky Santana vs. Owen Hart (C) for the WWC Light Heavyweight Championship in a Street Fight Dirty Dutch Mantell vs. Hangman Bobby Jaggers in a Cage Match Jos LeDuc vs. Abdullah Tamba
  16. Really what this will come down to is what the WWE does about it and if it is enough/too much in your eyes. If we're really honest about that, do you think it matters to the WWE or Orton what some message board people think about it? Not trying to be a dick here, just asking myself the question and coming up with probably the exact same answer anyone reading this is. In another topic I commented that maybe toxic fan culture being on the internet because it is less violent than what went on before might be a very good thing. I'd say the opposite is true here. In the 80s if this kind of thing happened you'd see it maybe in the newsletters and there would be discussion amongst a few people about it. But at the end of the day not many would be in the know and it would just disappear. Now even little scraps of information become huge things and people eat it up. I'm sure if you took that close of a look at just about anything there is a seedy underbelly, but anyone who knows anything about wrestling could tell you that the seedy underbelly is probably the biggest part.
  17. Yes! Fabs vs. RnRs! Big statement from Magnum. So looking forward to both of those matches. JJ and Brad are such an awesome midcard young guy team for the mid-south. Boone is on a freaking tear and I can't wait to see how Wright counters. The old "that ain't no lady" Southern angle. I like that you cut out the tasteless part for TV. I know there will be those that don't like it. Let them.
  18. WWC House Show 8/14/86 Isabel Segunda, Puerto Rico Huracan Castillo Jr. w/Miguelito Perez vs. Mercenario 1 w/Mercenario 2 This one went right to the all-out brawl between wrestlers and seconds. Both Perez and Merc 1 bled. And got completely out of referee Ricky Vargas' control. The two teams brawled until referees and officials could not break them up so security had to. Brad Batten vs. the Crusher w/Barrabas The Crusher waded in with his usual clubbering and power moves but Brad fought back with right hands and ended up knocking the Crusher out of the ring with a dropkick. The Crusher adopted a stalling strategy and ended up catching an overly ambitious crossbody from Batten. He slammed Batten down and went to work on him with Barrabas urging him on from ringside. Brad reversed a whip that led to the Crusher just barely avoiding a collision with Barrabas, then caught the Crusher in a schoolboy for the three. Bart Batten vs. Jonathan Boyd w/Barrabas Batten anticipated the Boyd pre-match attack and suckered him into a drop toe hold with Boyd catching his own throat on the top rope. Boyd was on the defensive all match, trying to brawl back into it. Barrabas made several openings foir his man, but in the end Bart pulled himself over the top rope from the apron into a sunset flip for the three count. After the match Barrabas was too busy checking on Boyd to call in any kind of attack. Los Super Medicos & Los Invaders (1 & 3) vs. Victor the Bodyguard, Abdullah Tamba & Los Primos Starr This one was all action right away with the babyfaces in control. A low blow by Ron on Medico 1 changed that quickly. Invader 1 took the tag after an extended heel control and fell victim to several attacks to the eyes and a low blow by Chicky before taking a longer beating. Medico 1 was tagged by Invader and really went to work on both Starrs as Invader 3 and Medico 3 took it to Victor and Tamba. Chicky bailed and Medico 1 went after him, with Ron attacking Medico 1 as he did. Invader 1 went after Ron as Victor was rolled up by Medico 3 for the three count. Invader 2 vs. Owen Hart (C) WWC Lightweight Championship A more even match than their last with no arm to exploit by Owen and no cut for Invader 2 to exploit. Hart wrestled cleaner than he has been, but still used dirty tricks to make most of his comebacks. Invader 2 tried for a double throat chop while Owen was in control, but Owen scrambled out of the ring after barely avoiding it. Invader 2 tracked Owen down and tossed him back in the ring, but Owen went low and rolled Invader 2 up for the three count to retain his title. Ricky Santana came running out to chase Owen off before he could do any more damage. Mercenario 2 w/Mercenario 1 & Chicky Starr vs. Carlitos Colon Colon faced long odds against Merc 2 with two men outside the ring. He was able to stay on offense in the time between their interference, but that was usually pretty short. He finally made his big comeback after the cartwheel. He took on all 3, clearing all but Merc 1 (not even in the match) out of the ring and dropping elbows on the leg. The figure four got Colon the victory despite it not being Mercenario 2. Chicky Starr was livid at referee Victor Quinonez after the match, but the result stood and the fans showered Chicky and company with garbage while roaring for Colon.
  19. I would call this a good thing. I think we can deal with people trolling online far more easily than mobs attacking wrestlers after a show. Yes, the culture is toxic, but at least it's not violent and extremely unsafe. As for the original question, the technology and availability of footage is absolutely amazing. I haven't been able to watch modern wrestling for quite a while due to a lot of the tropes that drive me insane, but the ability to watch so much wrestling that I do love is great. It is my hope that traditional wrestling makes a comeback at some point in a form far less toxic than the way the territories were run.
  20. Good win for Cactus. Loving the Guerreros being able to win in everything except for six-man tags against the guys that beat them. Adams gets some revenge on Kaissie. Pillman and Douglas is an interesting team. Not sure if I think either would make a great FIP, but I know Pillman would be a superb hot tag. Garvin and Burke would be a super fun brawl. Piper & Orton vs. Black Irish is an unexpected but awesome matchup. At what point does DeBeers decide that enough is enough and stop taking punishment for Rose? Big match for Zenk and have I mentioned how awesome Steamboat's run has been?
  21. St. Clair immediately being a heel by association with JJ is about right. Riddle has been great at not only talking his guys up but also giving them the right openings to win. Kirchner and Gama really standing tall here, I like to see it. Man, Peterson had been doing so well. I suppose that is what happens when heels like the Assassin get desperate. Good spot for a DCO with PP and the Assassins. Close win for Crews and he can thank Riddle for that one. Again. Wild main with Orndorff making Singh pay for using that sword. Love it and I'm sure the fans in Norfolk would have too.
  22. The highlights from the Bash show would have made good TV. Nice win for Ottman over Rogers. I can see the Gilbert/Street feud is off to a good start. Big win for Muta with two moonsaults! That 8-man would have been all action. Olympia and the Bees both with good wins. Love the idea of "Saturday" as a counter to Friday. Schultz as his usual mercenary self is awesome. Good of Ellering to get the belts back in what had to be a chaotic match. Kerry getting that win over Dory is a big deal. Great follow-up to the Nikita stuff.
  23. One day Casey is going to get a big win. The Ramblers needed that one. Bad News with a well-deserved win after his battles with DiBiase's crew. Link and Lewin would be a fun brawl. Greta debut for Link BTW. Rough night for the Southern Boys. But the Caspian Empire are the right team to break them in. Holy huge main events! Cooley getting a revenge win over Manny without getting the titles back is the right way to go.
  24. Using KKB as a temporary obstacle to build Bad News up for Ted is absolute genius. SBS as a challenger for Crews is a good choice. Sugar is always a credible in-ring guy. The Southern Boys continue to impress in MACW. Is it too much to hope they've found a home for a while? Good promo by Rich to get the fans wanting more Buzz Sawyer. Kernodle wouldn't have to be a great promo to make that kind of message work. It would get heat. Gama and Rheingans would be a far more interesting feud this way than it has any right to be. Assassins continue to be really good midcard heels. That's a pretty big challenge so early in the run of both the Flame and Peterson. Bad News is saying all the right things so far. I am soooo looking forward to him and Ted. Rip Oliver and Blackjack Mulligan in a cage. I wonder if that's a good match or not. I mean even without the 5 minute stip. Wonder what that Fuller bit was about. Riddle really kills it this week in his promo. I hope I can do him justice. Poor Bull Gantner, things looked like they were going his way. J.J. and St. Clair is an odd but intriguing pairing.
  25. Good wins for Lane and Somers. I love how you promote the big names across the NWA on your shows. Orndorff should be a guy who makes his way across the NWA. Glad to see los Infernales getting a win! Is that the brainwashed Brito getting a win? Or the now better Brito? Ray with a big win over Gordy! OMG was very forgiving about Garvin's botched interference. Andre hanging out in Lutte is a cool deal. I'm guessing he had a good connection with the Quebec crowds. Cool card for Montreal. Black Bart vs. Jacques harkens back a long ways, but it has history. Bruce vs. Armand might have some extracurricular things going on if I am right.
