[1996-12-15-WWF-It's Time] Bret Hart vs Sid
That looked super messy. The finish was pretty horrible (from a booking standpoint) too. There is a reason the WWF was the #2 company in the world at this point.

[1996-12-15-WWF-It's Time] Flash Funk vs Leif Cassidy
Flash Funk's entrance is indeed endless. Too much of this match is the guy taking the move waiting way too long for it to get there. the belly to belly over the buckle is really impressive for sure. I suppose this is the WWF's counter to the WCW cruiserweights? It's got it's own flavor, but they don't quite have the idea right. The horrible gimmicks definitely don't help.

[1996-12-09-WWF-Raw] Interview: Bret Hart
Putting Bret with Sid makes sense due to Sid having the title. That being said, it's much less of a personal issue for either of them as Sid still has Shawn angry with him and Bret has yet to really deal with Stone Cold. I suppose you want to try and put Bret back into the title picture ASAP after Shawn's reign fizzled out. The way they did it was less than ideal, but leads them to their comeback anyway.

[1996-12-02-WCW-Nitro] Roddy Piper beats up Eric Bischoff
I'm sure Bischoff was both thrilled by how over his heel persona was and maybe regretting it a bit for being doused in what one would hope is water. This segment was the first WCW "victory" over the nWo. And they sorely needed one. They got it right as far as location too. The fans were absolutely behind Piper and Greene.

[1996-12-02-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Roddy Piper
I enjoyed this mainly for the crowd. Piper went a little too off the rails for me, but that's Piper. He's absolutely great on the mic, but I think he's better with less time to ramble.

[1996-11-25-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Eric Bischoff
I was thinking about specifically Bagwell being in the nWo today. If he had turned heel by joining forces with Scott Norton and they had been a midcard heel tag team both Vicious & Delicious and the nWo would have been better off. Bischoff is indeed way more natural in this role. He would get better, but he already has eclipsed his entire announcing career.

[1996-11-18-WCW-Nitro] Hollywood Hogan and Eric Bischoff / DDP and the NWO
Hogan bullying Bischoff (not really though) into saying bad things about Piper was really great. What a tremendous heel moment. This whole DDP thing is so good. I know the nWo eventually goes so far the wheels and most of the car comes off. When they were fresh and hitting on all cylinders it was something special. There are 2 distinct parts of the nWo though. Hall & Nash with their buddy Syxx and the Hogan crew. Giant seems to hang out with both.

Nash really does impress here. There are reasons he is over at the time and a memorable part of the nWo. I just wish we had seen more of this Hall & Nash as time went on.

[1996-11-18-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin vs Mankind
Really fun brawl between two guys who seem like they are coming into their own on TV over the last 6 months or so. I'll agree it slows down once it goes into the ring, but it is never actively anything but good.

[1996-11-18-WWF-Raw] Faarooq vs Savio Vega
That blown superplex spot was really scary as far as looking like somebody was gonna get hurt. Did that tease with Sunny being Farooq's former manager ever go anywhere? Also, wasn't the NoD based on the Black Panthers? So many questions about how this thing is starting.

[1996-11-17-WWF-Survivor Series] Bret Hart vs Steve Austin
I really loved this. The Mania match is better if my recollection is correct, but that is in no way an insult to this match. I think this match helps set the table for the Mania match more than anything. They started out with the "who is the better wrestler" storyline being put over strong. Then Stone Cold got frustrated at getting the short end of the technical wrestling and just started beating Bret up. Which makes sense given that Bret has been training for this match where? Storyline would have to be the Hart Dungeon, so why wouldn't he win the technical stuff. Bret has to come back using more brawling tactics to show he is game on that side of things. Then the indecisive finish leaves you wondering if Stone Cold didn't miss out on a few opportunities he should have capitalized on.

[1996-11-11-WCW-Nitro] DDP and the Outsiders
DDP finally getting his due is great. He has been getting over in a big way lately. The Diamond Cutter is part of it. Him clearly putting in the work to get better and consistently putting on one of the better Nitro matches against sometimes questionable opponents helps a lot too. He'll never be the best in-ring technician to ever live, but he clearly knows how to work a crowd and get himself over. Which is something WCW sorely needs on the babyface side. They are counting on Jarrett to get over as a babyface for crying out loud.

[1996-11-04-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin-Brian Pillman confrontation
I totally understand why people hated this. It was clearly manipulative and a publicity stunt gone way wrong. At the same time, Taker and Mankind are the only other good thing going on in the company not involving Austin. So them doing something completely outside what they had been doing is probably better than the same formulaic garbage that had gotten them to this point. The fact that it goes off the rails is not awesome. Austin's gimmick/character was going off the rails the previous week though and regardless of how bizarre this seems it does not come across as completely outside of the possibility last week hinted at.

[1996-11-04-WWF-Raw] Shawn Michaels/Sid Debate
I did not like this. The build to the babyface vs. babyface title match has been full of segments that were obviously there for no reason other than to build for it. Owen (current tag champ) in singles vs. Sid with Davey out with him. Wonder how that one ends. Bulldog (other tag champ) vs. Shawn in a return match nobody wanted to see in the opposite scenario. Then this. It's paint by the numbers in the worst way possible.

[1996-11-04-WWF-Raw] Goldust vs The Stalker
The match wasn't much for sure. Also, it was only an excuse to have a big brawl between the SS teams, so there was no way it was going to be much.

[1996-10-27-WCW-Halloween Havoc] Rey Misterio Jr vs Dean Malenko
A better full match than either of their past outings I've seen. I say that due to the announcers counting this as match 5 and I've seen 2. There were a few more near-botches that they worked well through outside of that guard rail missed spot, but that doesn't hurt it too much. I thought Dean going back to the well on the sleeper spot where the ref has to hold Mysterio's arm up 3 times immediately after the first one was a move in the wrong direction that he did fix right after. I'm a little more with Loss than anyone else on this one. There are spectacular parts and parts that almost seem like them not really knowing how to get back into the flow of things in between.

[1996-10-21-WCW-Nitro] Randy Savage vs Chris Benoit
Savage threatening to kill Hogan is definitely over the top. Also, wouldn't you be considering finding other employment if you were Savage at this point? The guy has been putting anyone worth wrestling over all year with very little coming back his way. He lost to Luger 4 times in something like 7 weeks around January.

[1996-10-21-WCW-Nitro] Sting and NWO Sting
Also, the debut of sting using the Slop Drop! Good segment for sure and another worthy chapter in the story of the nWo.

[1996-10-21-WWF-Raw] Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs Marc Mero
One of the more sensible things the WWF was doing at the time if you look at it as a whole. So much of the other stuff is just completely off the wall or poorly executed enough to make a person not care. At least here you have a couple of over workers (Perfect and Sable) helping to bring some interest to the proceedings.
