[1991-05-10-UWFi-Moving On 1] Kiyoshi Tamura vs Masahito Kakihara
I liked how even when things got heated during exchanges Tamura was still far more surgical with his strikes instead of just throwing stuff out there. And he had a definite plan of attack, really attacking the leg throughout. Kakihara looked more like a guy who was, as mentioned above, just hoping something landed instead of putting the right strike in the right place to land.

[1991-05-06-NJPW-Dream Win III] Jushin Liger vs Hiroshi Hase
I liked how awesome (and hurty) the over the shoulder armbreaker looked on a shorter guy like Liger. THAT is something that ought to have been ripped off time and again. The Jim Breaks stomps to the arm and kneedrops that followed were spectacular. One touch I loved was Hase getting the advantage through more heavyweight means, then Liger taking control through flying. Hase decides to go up top, which only solidifies Liger's advantage when he is countered. Great bit of junior vs. heavyweight psychology that makes it's point without overstating it.

Great promo by both, but Gilbert really brings it home at the end.

This guy gives terrible tax advice. The WWF should hire somebody else.

[1991-04-30-WWF-Primetime Wrestling] Interview: Ultimate Warrior
I agree that Warrior-speak sounds slightly more ridiculous this way. but seriously, this is the most I've liked a Warrior interview/promo pretty much ever. This is a guy I can get behind, somebody who clearly has self-doubts but refuses to allow them to beat him. That's something us "normals" can get behind. Stuff like this could have been a huge boon to Warrior as a champ.

UNIVERSAL WRESTLING FEDERATION (UWF)
So much good stuff going on. Roadies vs. Russians, Watts attempting to get Akbar in the ring alone, Dusty gets a Koloff in a cage, JYD and Wrestling II, that is gonna be one HUGE card.

[1991-04-30-NJPW-Explosion Tour: Top of the Super Juniors] Jushin Liger vs Norio Honaga
Great match with Honaga doing enough heelish stuff to get the win. But despite all the dirty tactics and opportunistic attacks, the crowd still loves him. I thought his turnbuckle climbing was possibly the slowest I've ever seen a junior climb though. The ballshot actually had me buying into the false finish, so I'll say it worked like a charm. I also think that Honaga should learn to rip the mask a little bit at a time. That way he can go back to it instead of just a one-and-done deal because the thing wouldn't stay on Liger's head after another rip.

[1991-04-30-NJPW-Explosion Tour: Top of the Super Juniors] Jushin Liger vs Negro Casas
Fun spotfest. Some of them spots never got ripped off by anybody for constant use, which is actually a shame. Some miscommunication between the two in spots.

[1991-04-29-AJW] Aja Kong & Bison Kimura vs Manami Toyota & Esther Moreno
Great match with the big vs. fast dynamic. Esther Moreno managed to do enough work for two despite being in the ring with some pretty heavy hitters. Loved her sequences with Aja where she just went ahead at a million miles an hour because that's all she had going in her favor, even when it didn't work out. Puts both of them over a ton if you ask me. One of the few joshi matches I've seen on the yearbooks that I seem to like as much as the rest.

Invader I vs. Super Black Ninja (1/23/88)
Did not expect this style of match, much more your standard wrestling match. This really doesn't play to Invader 1's strengths, but it doesn't have to as it's more a showcase for Mutoh. It's nice to see how feuds start in Puerto Rico after seeing them end for so long, and a pretty good wrestling match to boot.

Hugo Savinovich vs. El Profe (Loser Is Painted Yellow) (1/5/88)
Hugo is great here as the babyface. Profe helps a lot by with his dirty tactics and general dickery. Funny how Hugo is actually using more technical wrestling than most of the wrestlers.

Hercules Ayala v. Carlos Colon (Texas Death Match) (7/18/87)
This match is where I started to think Hugo was one of the all-time great announcers. He really does a tremendous job. Ayala destroying Colon after the shot with the brass knuckles is gory and probably would have been edited out anywhere else besides Japan. That is so much blood, beating goes way too far before it is stopped, but you have to make the boss look good even in defeat.

Wrestling... on The Moon!
The uncomfortable looking face on the kneepad under the claw is certainly amusing.

Hercules Ayala vs. Carlos Colon (Barbed Wire Match) (9/20/87)
Ayala's comedy/discomfort stuff early was gold. I love playing up not being comfortable with barbed wire AND stooging at the same time. I also liked Ayala going for the cover after the knucks shot and getting pissed that he couldn't win the match that way. Good way of putting over the mistake in demanding that stip. The pop for Colon's cartwheel was MONSTER even for Puerto Rico. Great finish.
