Top 20 Women's Matches of 2015
Thanks, I was just curious since there's some people here that are into the indy scene and maybe they had seen/heard/read about something that wasn't in the all-women groups. I watched a few other matches from the Stardom USA tour. The Thunder Rocks vs. Matsumoto/Skater match that was the main from the 2nd show was pretty good, Iwatani vs. Nicole Savoy from the 1st show was solid if short, and it was interesting to see Melina not look too out of place in the two tags that she was in. The initial point of the thread was if someone had watched the NXT women's matches and were wondering if there was anything of similar quality from joshi or indy women's groups. I could put up a list of some lesser or interesting matches if someone wants though.

Top 20 Women's Matches of 2015
Anyone know of any highly rated indy women's matches from this year that weren't in Shimmer/Shine/WSU that I can watch online?

[2015-01-04-NJPW-Wrestle Kingdom 9] Shinsuke Nakamura vs Kota Ibushi
I always thought that Nakamura's flailing was part of his rock/pop star gimmick, he's just the type of guy who just over-exaggerates when he preforms. Overall, I thought the match was great although it does drag the whole mock/one-up each other stuff was played out and not need towards the end of the match. It worked in the early going as it seem that Nakamura's strategy was to get Ibushi to lose his temper but he never did. The action was fantastic when they were going right at one another and trying to find way to avoid/counter each other's stuff.

[2015-05-20-WWE-NXT Takeover: Unstoppable] Sasha Banks vs Becky Lynch
If nothing else this match will always be a watershed moment for women in mainstream wrestling. Sasha, in particular, was well thought of before this match. But after this match, people started talking about her as being the best in the WWE, if not the world. The match itself starts out with some back and forth exchanges leading to Becky ending up with the slight advantages at the end which force Sasha back on her heels. Sasha fires back in a big way by blocking a Becky kick and yanking her down to the apron by grabbing her arm. Sasha follows that up by spending the next several minutes just torturing Becky's arm, with the big highlight being Sasha bending back Becky's arm with her foot. I did like Becky's comeback leading to a good near-finish with the armbar, even if her selling was a bit spotty along the way. Didn't like the finish though as Sasha basically has to no-sell not just being thrown into the steps after her dive, but also the arm work, by putting on the Bank Statement with Becky right by the ropes. The last 90 seconds is what keeps this from being in the top tier of women's matches for the year. ****1/4

[2015-04-03-Shine 26] Mia Yim vs Santana Garrett
This is a really well done title vs. title match between to very good indy women. They did a nice job of showing off how even they are while still making it look like a competitive situation. My favourite part was when they teased a couple of typical non-finishes between champs with a double countout and double pin. The finish had some really nice back and forth. It came off as the proper way of doing a your turn/my turn finish as they worked in enough selling and struggle to make it convincing. ***3/4

Top 20 Women's Matches of 2015
Thread for Emma vs. Asuka at Takeover At the start of the year it would have been crazy to think that Kana's best singles match would have happened in a WWE ring.

[2015-12-16-WWE-NXT Takeover: London] Emma vs Asuka
I really like how they laid out this match to how they booked this feud. They found the right tone for Emma's character as she realized how dangerous Asuka is but still thought she could beat her by outsmarting her. Also really liked Emma's in-ring performance, she worked really smart and laid in a lot of her shots while not being afraid of taking anything from Asuka. It was cool to see Asuka dust off some of her old strike combos. The most noticeable difference between Asuka here and her work in Japan is how much she plays to the crowd. She rarely worked in front of big crowds in Japan so it's nice to see her adjust and work "bigger" here. The finish was smart even if there was a few minor issues with the execution of it. ****

Thread for Su Yung vs. Madison Eagles The biggest surprise for me putting together this list. Really strong storytelling fueled by the character work of Yung.

[2015-10-02-Shine 30] Su Yung vs Madison Eagles
I've always enjoyed watching Madison Eagles but Su Yung really stood out here. Yung is working a Kabuki/Muta gimmick and manages to work in the unpredictability of her character into the match. Any time that Eagles seems to have control of the match Su is able to counter and attack from different odd angles. Madison starts getting desperate and just start throwing out big bombs but Yung somehow keeps surviving. That comes to an end at the finish as Su is distracted by Saraya Knight in the crowd and Eagles goes all in by hitting a powerbomb on the turnbuckles and a Northern Lights Bomb to finally keep Yung down for good. Terrific storytelling with great character work from Yung. ****1/4

NXT talk
They seem to have the same approach as the men. Mix of indy workers and raw recruits that fit their typical sterotypes. I wouldn't say that they've completely left their old ways behind. Liv Morgan/Gionna Daddio use to work for Hooters. Carmella was a cheerleader for the Patriots and Lakers, Dana Brooke was a bodybuilder, and Alexa Bliss did both of those. Even with her family background, Nia Jax is a former model.

TLC 2015
Watched the pre-show match. Thought it was pretty good up till after the not-Bank Statement by Sasha then it fell apart at the end. On the pre-match stuff, if you read Sasha's twitter it's clearly something B.A.D. made up not sabotage by backstage types. They should make #Snatched an on air thing because it's entertaining and actually heelish.

Lucha Underground
I assume Cheerleader Melissa is the woman with her back to the camera and the pigtails?
-
Mauro Ranallo...
Mauro can get pretty loud so maybe he just won't hear Vince through the headphones. I wonder how the NXT guys feel about this since Cole seems like a lifer at this point.

TLC 2015
Paige should bring in her mom, Saraya Knight beating the hell out of Ric Flair would be something else.

Lucha Underground
The trailer for season 2 is up. Hyped for Puma vs. Pentagon, Drago vs. Jack Evans hopefully in a nunchuks fight, and Rey Jr. vs. everybody especially Muertes.

[MMA] Fights with genuinely different styles?
You might want to try K-1. It's really just kickboxing with more open rules but a lot of the names come from a variety of martial arts backgrounds. Andy Hug, Peter Arts, and Ernesto Hoost are the big names from the 90's who usually had exciting fights and the odd spectacular knockout. If you like more pace and technique there's K-1 Max, which is their lightweight division. Masato, Albert Kraus, Andy Souwer, and Buakaw are the big names there. Meltzer use to rave about their shows and do full reviews of them and he was right about them, lots of great stuff.
