The Ross Report
Listened to the MVP podcast during the week. It was interesting, covering his early life, Benoit and a bit about TNA. One thing that bothers me is JR talking about MVP improving himself and getting out of crime. It sounds a bit patronising when he jumps on his soapbox and preaches that we can all learn from it etc. Suppose that's just him getting older.....

What is this called? Sounds interesting....

Pro-Wrestling Super Show: ECW Barely Legal (July 2, 2014)
Gave this a listen earlier, really enjoyed it. Nice to get a strong baseline established on where ECW was in Spring 97. I was wondering what you thought of a commonly held belief (back then, anyway) that ECW had peaked artistically at the end of the summer 96 and never reached those heights again......

Matches that are too long
I think longer matches from the 80s and into early 90s are more enjoyable than their descendants. I'm comparing Flair and HHH in my head here.

Matches that are too long
Yeah, the other one. Matches that leave you shaking your head at the stubborn-mindedness/rampant egotism/lack of self awareness in thinking they can keep a match interesting for that long. Should we just disqualify HHH here to move onto other examples?

Matches that are too short
Listening to the WWBBP on SuperBrawl 1 and Clash 15 reminded me how frustrating it is when matches are rushed. To me, it's worse than a bad match that cannot be saved irrespective of time allotment - all that glorious potential going to waste. Anyway, what are the most glaring examples of 'Come on! Give that another 5-10 minutes and you've a classic!' you've experienced?

Any more info on this? I heard Meltzer effectively say he wasn't interviewed but should have been..... Not that I've seen. I'm surprised they didn't reach out to Dave, but that was probably the filmmaker's prerogative as I would imagine ESPN gives them more leeway. What I want to know is if WWE licensed them any footage or that it will rely on what ESPN themselves have because they had a home at World Class for awhile. Also, do you think it will cover anything new? I thought that as a combination the Heroes of World Class and the WWE DVD told the story quite well.

Whose rep was particularly boosted by the Apter mags?
I was in the same island-onto-myself boat. PWI was useful, but Power Slam's predecessor Superstars of Wrestling was my key to getting a foundation.

The Steve Austin Show
Finally got to the Tommy Rogers interview and I see what all the fuss was about. Comes across as a really good man, and sorry toi hear of his ailments. One thing - he says the Fantastics had a ten year run in Japan. Did they? I think they started there in 88 or 89, were they there at tail end of 90s?

The Ross Report
Gotta give ol' Jr His due, he was a perfectly competent host on the Lance Storm podcast - no long-winded, stuck-in-the-mud rants at all, he got an interesting story about Lance's RoH match with Danielson in 06, and the whole interview was a very pleasant listen. He's improving (I hope)..... Having said that, I skipped his opening half hour monologue.

Dave Meltzer stuff
Before I had any influence from the magazines, I liked the Rockers and Brian Pillman more and hated Hulk Hogan (because he always only ever did the same three moves) and Jim Duggan and the Bushwhackers, but I also liked Ultimate Warrior and the Young Pistols and Shane Douglas and Tom Zenk and any high-flying type babyface or someone who seemed really energetic. I liked Arn Anderson a lot too but that was sort of beside the point. I just liked the Spinebuster. I absolutely hated Hogan because he only did three moves though. it had nothing to do with him winning or losing. I think I had similar early experiences in liking wrestlers that I'm still happy to stand by. My early days were 1991, and the Horsemen, Pillman, Bret and Hennig were a-ok in my book. Maybe the pwo crowd had and have a sixth sense with this....

Squared Circle Gazette Radio #4 - The Best Big Man In Wrestling History
Did Samoa Joe get mentioned? I would nominate him for work in RoH and TNA's x division early on.

Dragon King Karl show
Any fans? I've given it a go a few times. He seems to know his stuff on 80s territories and whatnot, but his bumbling, meandering way of expressing himself can be grating. And I'm not overly interested in hearing about his shift patterns in the Georgia PD....

Place to Be Podcast Episode 320: Survivor Series 2002
Just finished this one up. Nice having Justin's perspective from inside MSG. I thought this Elimination Chamber went too long, maybe 10 minutes less would have suited the match, but that's HHH for you. To be fair though, it was the first one, and I don't think any have gone far past 30 since. This one went 39.12

Where the Big Boys Play #63 - Superbrawl I
SuperBrawl was among the first WCW videos released in the UK in 91/92, and has always had a fond place in my heart. I think it still holds up well, as of last viewing about 2 years ago. I agree with Parv that it sounds like the 2 hour version here was the best way to watch it. And roll on the June Clash - it was loaded, but rushed as hell.

Nobody mention Goldberg at all? I'm not nominating him, just struck me as an unusual omission....

What are the best Survivor Series tags ever?
I can't quite get my head around why the matches aren't great - any ideas?
-
What are the best Survivor Series tags ever?
That's the thing that struck me too - good, enjoyable-while-you're-watching but not classics. I did think of two exceptions - 2001 and 2003. To be fair, they both had the advantage of great backstory - the end of ECWCW in one (and they say NOTHING in that angle worked?) and Austin v Bischoff for GM.

What are the best Survivor Series tags ever?
I started thinking about this yesterday. Survivor Series has provided plenty of solid shows over the years, but were any of the Survivors elimination tags really must-see, or just great for only happening once a year and the fresh matches it provided? Even if you think think the answer to the title question is 'no', what are the best Survivors matches?
