What is the greatest *worked* moment in televised wrestling history?
Lawler v Kaufman on Letterman. Look, people "knew" wrestling was somewhat of a work, but this made people say "Holy shit, this is serious"

The Worst Gimmick Match Concept Ever
i I didn't see the video, but the date on the Memphis card is May 16, 1983. The finish involved the bullwhip. I know there was a Dundee promo video floating out there that showed the finish

The Worst Gimmick Match Concept Ever
I'm glad you mentioned Dundee vs Dutch Mantel as well. I haven't seen the Starr v Invader 3, but if you mention it along with the other three, I need to check it out

Axl Rotten passes away
I know the guy was trying to keep clean, so I'm really hoping it wasn't a relapse. I'd really hate to see that for his lasting memory. I told Terry Simms this one day: the more I learn about the business, the more I hate it.

6:05 Superpodcast Episode #11 - Cornette Returns
There's no one better to just sit and listen to talk about old school wrestling than Cornette. I don't know if he could drop the schtick for an interview, but I'd love to hear Bolin talk about his young days around Cornette, taping wrestling, trying to find different wrestling.

6:05 Superpodcast Episode #11 - Cornette Returns
When I started watching Memphis back in 81, I thought it was the only wrestling around. My brother would watch occasionally and one day said, "You know there's more wrestling on. There's some show called ICW. They kidnapped some wrestler named Pez Whatley and put a bra and mop on him. There's two awesome wrestlers named Randy Savage and Lanny Poffo to." Of course I had to start watching. So I got to see a lot of pre Memphis Randy Savage and you could tell he was a star. I still remember George Weingeroff coming on and apologizing for Dundee being injured by Savage. Definitely looking forward to hearing Cornette talk about it

Best squash match workers?
The match with Flair was in Nov and this was Feb, so I'm not sure it was the Flair match and Koko was gone right after this match to Mid South. Just his demeanor walking to the ring was signifying a heel turn though. He was just dressed like Santa a few weeks back, lol
-
Best squash match workers?
I second this. I'm trying to rack my brain, but I don't remember any heel turn by Koko at this time as he was feuding a lot with Buddy and Dundee. I think he left for Mid South around March (granted, in Louisville we got the condensed version, so you miss some stuff). But his demeanor is showing heel turn

Best squash match workers?
There's a famous Memphis story of him just kicking the shit out of Steve Keirn. When Lane came around, Ware asked if he wanted some, with Lane backing away. Koko will always be a fav. I went to the Louisville Gardens for years, and if he was a face, Koko NEVER would turn away autographs or slapping hands with fans

6:05 Superpodcast Episode #8 - Hang In There
Adding on to the podcast: Take a listen to Terry Garvin Simms' podcast (World Domination). He had Mark Guleen on a few months back and tells a crazy story of having to pull a gun on the Samoan Swat Team

Wrestling With Dice
I play Filsinger games as well and have created tons of Legends bootlegs (did the stats, art). My current project is using the Filsinger system and re-creating the Memphis territory from when Jarrett broke off from Gulas in 1977'until the forming of the USWA If you'd like to see the pdf, I'll be happy to pass along to you, to get a look at the game. Just shoot me an email at UKWildcatTrav at yahoo.com

Between the Sheets #25 (January 5-11, 1994)
I told Kris and Bix this seedy tale from back in the day. We'd go to the Louisville Gardens each week and during the intermissions, would hang around the heel dressing room (they'd mingle by the entrance and watch the matches) because we were dumb teen marks. This incident was around 89, but some girl that looked about 14-15, had that trashy hot look about her, was hanging around as well. We saw her talking to DI Bob Carter and it looked like he blew her off. She was walking off and told her friend "that's the first rassler to say no to fuckin me." I was floored, lol

Bill Watts and wrestlers in bar fights
Orndorff kicked Vader's ass and was tougher than Orton. If I had to guess one wrestler at a time who got their ass kicked in a bar fight, I'd probably name 250 guys before I even considered that Paul Orndorff could have got his ass kicked by some random dude at a bar. If you've ever heard any of the witness accounts to the Vader fight, you you wouldn't dream about fucking with Paul Orndorff. Just google Paul Orndorff and Tony Atlas. And remember that Orndorff basically whipped Vader's ass with one arm

Exile on Badstreet #21 (Bluegrass Brawlin" The History of SMW Part 2) (Featuring Good Ol' Will & Tim Noel)
When talking about head shaving, people did care about stipulations that weren't followed up on in those days. It was 77 or 78 I think, but it was a hair vs hair match with Lawler v Valiant. Valiant came out on crutches, said he couldn't wrestle, blah, blah. He then whacked Lawler with the crutch, beating him with it. Dundee ran in and took his place with Jarrett thinking fans would forget the stipulation and would want to see Valiant get his ass kicked...except that didn't happen. Fans rioted when they realized there wasn't going to be a head shaving

6:05 Superpodcast Episode #6 - Stop the Murder
I'll be 100% honest: Jarrett's version sounds like BS and I'm betting Im in the top ten of fans of Memphis wrestling.

Wrestlers you really dislike
I thought the really telling thing with them was watching how the Commonwealth angle in Southwest played out. There was a short run in there where Luke was on his own, and he's actual a really exciting, violent brawler. And then Butch shows up...and he's not. At all. And they start teaming, and Luke starts working down to Butch's level. Really weird thing to find out about two guys I used to not be able to tell apart at all. As to the topic at hand..."really dislike" is probably too strong a term, but I was always very "meh" towards Bull Nakano. I honestly can't put my finger on why that is, but her work leaves me cold in ways that, say, Aja Kong's doesn't. You have to see the Sheepherders in Memphis. They were at their best there with Johnathan Boyd being really great. But wasn't that a completely different team? It wasn't Luke Williams and Butch Miller, it was Jonathan Boyd and Rip Morgan (and later Bigfoot ... I've seen some listings saying Bigfoot *was* Rip Morgan, but I distinctly remember Boyd saying he was a replacement for Rip. Can anyone get a definitive word on this?) Butch went back to New Zealand for a bit and Boyd stepped in. Boyd and Luke had a great run in Memphis in late 82/early 83 with some great, bloody battles with the Fabs

Between the Sheets #22 (December 15-21, 1995) (Featuring Al Getz)
Speaking of Bowden, you should really have him on as a guest. For Gods sakes, he shared a dressing room with PG-13, Doug Gilbert and Tommy Rich!!!
