  1. I've only ever been drunk while watching wrestling once and while that was fun I don't see myself doing that ever unless I'm at a show live.
  2. Open trolling. That's enough of this now. When someone calls a genuine opinion trolling for no reason on basically any message board I'd expect them to be actually trolled. That said Ricky Steamboat's armdrags are at least top 5 all time. Also holy shit that Kensuke gif is amazing
  3. I only did this once about 5 years ago because I wanted to put a cd with a song about geocaching into one. I got a little Danish flag and band aids out of it. http://starters.bandcamp.com/track/geocache-girl there's probably nobody who cares but there's the song.
  4. CZW

El McKell replied to Luchaundead's topic in 2016
I personally wouldn't come close to voting for any of these guys. But if you think Blk Jeez is someone who you could vote for you should just nominate him. It's hard to say if CZW is being underrepresented here, because I feel like among almost any group of hardcore wrestling fans (I don't mean fans of hardcore wrestling) CZW is not considered somewhere where many/any all time greats worked. If no CZW guy gets votes, is CZW underrepresented?
  5. The Abyss cage match is probably the only great match. Had a damn fun match with Bad Luck Fale in this year's G1 which has to count for something considering the dregs that you often get with Fale matches.
  6. How are the two even comparable? One is real life and the other is a storyline. I get that Dave thought expanding the Observer to include UFC would increase his readership, but I think there should be separate awards for pro wrestling and MMA. Full list here (and in the Observer newsletter itself, of course): http://www.cagesideseats.com/2016/1/21/10805104/2015-wrestling-observer-newsletter-awards-analysis The two are easily comparable, they're both a series of interactions leading to a fight between the competitors, where we grade them based on their ability to entertain us and generate interest in seeing the fight. If you think for a second that the stuff Conor McGregor was coming out with was 'real life' and not just him trying to say what would draw the most money while simultaneously being as entertaining as possible then you probably didn't watch much of the build to that fight. There are separate awards for MMA and pro wrestling with the only exceptions being best feud and box office draw, and maybe best/worst gimmick if someone wanted to vote a fighter for those.
  7. Who had the best 10+year run and when was it (pick your own parameters)? Kenta Kobashi: 1993 - 2005 Who had the best 10 year run and when was it? Kenta Kobashi 1995 - 2004 Who had the best 5 year run and when was it? Mitsuharu Misawa: Summer 1990 - Summer 1995 Who had the best 3 year run and when was it? Jumbo Tsuruta 1989 - 1991 Who had the best 2 year run and when was it? Hiroshi Tanahashi 2012 + 2013 Who had the best single year and when was it? Hiroshi Tanahashi 2013
  8. I'm on parv's side here I think Johnny's point is a little off base. if he's supposed to be the top guy he shouldn't be getting cheered one week on raw, then booed the next, then indifference then next. He's nowhere near as over as a the top guy should be.
  9. Kyle O'Reilly, Cesaro, Randy Orton, El Generico, Kevin Steen, Brock Lesnar and Ricochet are likely to make my list and wouldn't be without their work this decade. Same goes for Young Bucks on my tag team list. John Cena, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, AJ Styles, Chris Hero, Christopher Daniels and Low Ki are all helped by work this decade and all of them except Daniels are basically locks for my list.
  10. Which Japanese wrestler will you rank highest? Kenta Kobashi, he's part of the 2 man race for my number 1 spot Which Japanese wrestlers do you expect to make your list? There's going to be close to 50 of them, so no chance of a list here Who was the best of the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s to come out of Japan? 70s: Jumbo 80s: Jumbo 90s: Kobashi 00s: Kobashi 10s: Hiroshi Tanahashi Who was your favorite Ace? either Kobashi in NOAH or Hiroshi Tanahashi Who was your favorite top challenger? Kobashi in late 90s AJPW Who was your favorite under the radar guy? Can't pick Kobashi again here. How under the radar do you have to be? Does Marufuji count? If not I'm gonna say Natsuki*Taiyo, but I'm starting to think there's no room for her in my top 100 Who was the best at their peak? Akira Hokuto Who has disappointed you the most? Yoshiaki Fujiwara, I was initially kinda impressed with him in multi mans but he was really disappointing when I started looking at him individually. Tiger Mask also disappointed me a lot, but everyone on this site realised he's nothing special way before I did. Also Shinya Hashimoto
  11. Wasn't the Punk's problem with the 'make Roman look good' thing that he was winning a 3 on 1 handicap match against The Shield and therefore he couldn't make Roman look strong. Didn't he say something along the lines of 'I was about a second away from saying do you know what would make Roman look good, if he pinned me.' Although yeah, seems like part of why he left was not getting to be a real top guy. Anyway Cesaro is the obvious choice for this role unless they're gonna do something actually meaningful with him, which I highly doubt
  12. C'mon, Doesn't Bill Goldberg's WWE debut blow this out of the water in terms of crowd reaction
  13. Akira Hokuto Bull Nakano Aja Kong Dynamite Kansai Manami Toyota Chigusa Nagayo Devil Masami Mayumi Ozaki Jaguar Yokota Shinobu Kandori Lioness Asuka With possible room for Kyoko, Yumiko Hotta and Toshiyo Yamada
  14. Match Reviews for Kana: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/33103-kana-konami-vs-syuri-hikaru-shida-kana-pro-38/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/32740-emma-vs-asuka-wwe-nxt-1216-takeover-london/ and this nxt review has a recap of that battle royal she was in last week http://www.voicesofwrestling.com/2016/01/13/wwe-nxt-jan-13/
  15. What if a wrestler goes with a script and his matches don't have strong narratives, what if they don't and the matches still feel inorganic and contrived (pretty sure this one doesn't happen often). Would that make those criticisms matter less in any way? What I'm trying to get at is, isn't what matters here simply whether or not the matches have these weaknesses or not and whether it's scripted or not doesn't make much difference other than the likeliness of certain problems.
  16. I echo WingedEagle's thoughts on this doesn't matter to me if someone does the Bret/Macho Man lay out the whole match before hand thing, they still knew how to put together a good match and were able to execute it. Hunter didn't even work in WWF at the time of the first Razor/HBK ladder match.
  17. I'm pretty sure I'll be ranking El Hijo del Santo, Atlantis, El Dandy, Pirata Morgan and Satanico with possible places for MS-1, Dr. Wagner Jr and Blue Panther. Grimmas had a thread a while back where he was reviewing a bunch of minis matches, http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/29678-the-minis-thread/
  18. I thought I'd be on a bit of an island in not including Harley Race but looks like there's a few people on my side there. There's probably less people on my side when it comes to Shinya Hashimoto and Buddy Rose though.
  19. Kota Ibushi, Davey Richards, Kyle O'Reilly are all part of my list right now and James Storm is in my maybe pile. I've considered those guys, I think I may have nominated Shingo. But now it's looking like none of them, except maybe Yoshino will make my list. Also add me to the list of people voting for Naomichi Marufuji.
  20. I'm only watching free footage. But that doesn't mean relying solely on YouTube and Dailymotion, if it did it'd be impossible to rank 2000s indie wrestlers and Dragon Gate guys, but luckily we've got torrents, openthedragongate.com, veoh and a few other places. Using free footage has hurt in some places and made a few people hard to explore but for the most part it works out ok.
  21. Why is this song the song from the unbelievably annoying old Go Compare ad? For those of us not in the UK or Ireland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_-9QFvhQWo
  22. https://vimeo.com/27337356
  23. On the other hand, putting Ken Shamrock in DX could help this situation too. If they opened next weeks Raw with the DX theme playing and then Ken Shamrock walks down the ramp, would people pop? would they boo? would they be to confused to react?
  24. I just want to point out that Taz is not on commentary in that match it's Don West, cool to see you describe him as a shill because he was literally an infomercial host before being a wrestling commentator. Anyway Tenay and Don West are a top 5 all time commentary team for me, at least for matches like this cos Don West's unbridled enthusiasm could get annoying in 4 minute meaningless TV matches
  25. El McKell replied to Grimmas's topic in Nominees
Yeah, would anyone here rank Christopher Daniels above Sabu? *raises hand*
