Cole discussing the history of the Winged Eagle belt made the wrestling nerd in me smile.

Recommendations for cartoon wrestling promotions
If we're going to go there, I'd also put in 1990-91 WCW. Though you still had some straight wrestling matches/angles, that era was also the height of Jim Herd's ultra cartoony stuff like the Black Scorpion, Trucker Norm, PN News, Big Josh, Van Hammer, The York Foundation, Oz, and such.

WWE Vault youtube channel
Maybe this belongs on the youtube channels thread, but has anyone seen this channel? A lot of it is stuff already on the network/peacock, but they also have a whole bunch of stuff not there like the Survivor Series 96 Free for all match, a 2003 Nasty Boys Dark match, and even a Dragon Gate match (World 1 vs Warriors). Good to see that they're doing something with their archives.

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
So the American Nightmare trademark was apparently owned by someone else: https://www.f4wonline.com/news/wwe/cody-rhodes-wwe-fanatics-sued-over-american-nightmare-trademark/ Given how iconic the name is now, I can definitely see WWE settling or even trying to buy the rights to the name.

Reccomendations for solo Jim Neidhart?
Of course, Jim Neidhart is best known for his work with the Hart Foundation, but are there any solo matches of him worth checking out?

WWE TV 07/29 - 08/04 Olympic Edition
Was Jesse just showing up because it was Minnesota, or is he doing some sort of legends deal with WWE (or both)?

WWE TV 07/15 - 07/21 Football is, in fact, not coming home
Well, looks like Sheamus is the newest victim of Def Rebel's generic themes.

Dark Side of the Ring
Actually, here's a video with the commercial breaks from the 3/30/99 Nitro so we can look at what advertisers they were able to get:
-
Dark Side of the Ring
As for the claim that they cant get advertisers to buy time on wrestling, it might be interesting to find old episodes of Nitro or Thunder with the commercials intact (albiet, that's harder than you'd think) and see what advertisers they WERE able to get. I'm sure there would be at least some high-end stuff advertised.

WWE TV 05/27 - 06/02 Jaylen "The Lariat" Brown
I really like where this whole Chad Gable thing is going, but let's hope that Otis and Tozawa do get some revenge on him, if it's just them getting fired and then the Creeds join Alpha Academy and destroy them, it kind of makes them look like nothing but the losers that Chad's been calling them (I do want the Creeds in Alpha Academy, but not until after Otis and Tozawa take out Gable).

Dark Side of the Ring
If there is a season 6, here's some topics I'd like to see: Virgil Manny Fernandez Renegade Missy Hyatt Dick Murdoch Jim Duggan Heroes of Wrestling Pro Wrestling USA (though that might have been better for Tales from the Territories) The Gilberts (2 hours, one on Eddie, one on Doug) Kamala

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
I recently saw a cool picture that had Sid about to powerbomb Davey Boy Smith and at the same time, Owen was trying to counter with a sunset flip. Does anyone know what match this pic came from?

Today I learned that Jim Jamison (the second singer for Survivor and the singer of the Baywatch theme) sang the Big Bossman's Hard Times theme.

Commentary teams for MSG, Philadelphia Spectrum, Boston Gardens and MLG 1984-1992
Just watched it on youtube, Ventura sells it fine, but Mooney cant really get up to any of the righteous indignation that Vince or Monsoon could do, he seems more confused by what's going on if anything.

Then again, slasher films were constantly villifed by most "Serious" movie critics anyway, so why not just make a wrestling-themed slasher? Just have some wrestler kill someone in the ring, get thrown in jail, then have him break out and go to some supercard and start picking off wrestlers. Simple plot right there (there were and still are more ludicrous plots and settings for slasher films).

Can you post the letter Lawler wrote (unless the letter was just that picture of Lawler and Ken Lucas)? On a side note, it's kind of weird that there were never really any wrestling based horror films (aside from the Mexican ones of course). You'd think that with both the 80s wrestling boom and the 80s slasher films there could be some film tying into both (or maybe the 90s wrestling boom and the 90s slasher revival even).

WWE TV 04/08 - 04/14 A new story starts now
And now Von Wagner is gone. Huh, that's a weird one, it seemed like they had bigger things planned for him.

Commentary teams for MSG, Philadelphia Spectrum, Boston Gardens and MLG 1984-1992
Speaking of commentary teams, did we ever get Jesse working with Sean Mooney? It would have to be for a coliseum video or a prime time/all american/spotlight exclusive, but it would be interesting to see how someone more "straight-laced" like Mooney would have worked with the more over the top Ventura.

Occasionally Superstars and Challenge would have the announcers live in the arenas, especially around 91-92, and I think by 1993 they went back to having them there permanently (at least you'd see them at the commentary desk).

Lots of great wrestling-related stuff on IA. The idea of Overruns, be it in WWE or AEW or any other company are terrible. What if there's another show coming on another channel that you want to watch that starts during the overrun (For NXT I usually have to DVR the end of it so I can watch Dark Side of the Ring)? Just book the show around the time limit, if you want longer main events just shorten or cut certain segments so the main event can fit in the time slot.
