I’m a big Conan O’Brien fan and his character is described as ‘what if Conan O’Brien got possessed by a demon’ so I’m on board. Jim Cornette of all people likes his gimmick even though he said he didn’t want to see him in the ring at all. As a manager he’s almost a modern day Paul Bearer. I’ve heard his matches can be pretty straightforward but I’d have a hard time taking him seriously in that setting too.

I watched the first show and wasn’t impressed either. All I really know about them is it’s Court Bauer’s company and he used to appear on Steve Austin’s podcast a lot when I would listen to it. Seemed ok but who knows.

Interview with the Rock N Roll express facing the Freebirds in a Corporal Punishment Strap Match later tonight. Robert Gibson doing sign language which is something I never realized or didn’t remember. Apparently his parents were deaf. That’s nice and something that would be neat to see a wrestler do today. Of course with closed captioning I guess it’s not really needed.

2nd match - Johnny Ace vs Mean Mark - Johnny Ace post Dynamic Dudes coming out with The Beach Boys knock off music. They go toe to toe early which is surprising. Also surprisingly to see Johnny Ace do a running dive on Mean Mark over the top rope to the outside. Ace actually controlling most of the match early until Ace is sent outside and Manager Teddy Long and Mean Mark both do some damage. Ace gets an extended beatdown until finally making a babyface comeback. Ace misses a move off the top and the future Undertaker finishes him off with a heart punch and an elbow drop after walking the ropes. Better match than I expected. 2*

1st match - 6 man tag - Road Warriors and Norman the Lunatic vs Cactus Jack, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Kevin Sullivan. Ok opener. Cactus and Sullivan handle the selling and bumping early for their team. Eventually Norman the Lunatic is the face in peril. He makes the hot tag to Animal and eventually all 6 men are brawling in the ring. Hawk hits the top rope clothesline on Sullivan for the win. 2*

Tony Schiavone hosting with Jim Ross and Bob Caudle announcing. Gary Michael Capetta doing the ring introductions. They mention Robocop so many times in the opening minutes with a straight face it’s hard not to be impressed at the professionalism in the face of absurdity.

Firing up Capital Combat 1990 on Peacock in honor of Sting returning to Washington DC on AEW this week. They are cheesy but I still miss those old WCW PPV openings.

In the beginning they hyped constantly on the X Division being about ‘no limits’ instead of weight limits like the Cruiserweight division.

Missed Mox unfortunately, I’ll have to go back and watch that. I won’t complain about Mox vs Danielson but I was kind of hoping for Danielson to do something bigger than just come back and jump right into a regular program.

Royal Rumble is on Saturday this year, I guess to keep from having to go up against the NFL Conference Championship games on Sunday. Have they ever done the Rumble on a Saturday before?

Was hoping for a Robocop appearance to help out his friend Sting in D.C. for old times sake.

I think he had a good mind for the business but his demons got in the way more often than not.

Maybe it’s a recruiting thing? With trying to bring in these college athletes and influencers maybe they believe it will make the PC more attractive to them?

WWE did this a few years ago when Covid started and the channels needed filler because of all the cancelled sporting events. I think it’s a great idea. I enjoyed watching the older PPV’s.

If Cody leaves AEW probably loses Brandi, Dustin, and anyone associated with the Nightmare Factory that isn’t under contract too.
