Ring of Honor Wrestling
Danhausen on commentary for the PCO vs Sledge match on this weekend's TV was hilarious. I literally laughed out loud alone in my living room a couple times which I never do for wrestling comedy. I wonder if Danhausen might do better as a manager.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
I was watching the july 12 1993 episode of Raw and there was a match between Mr Hughes and Tony Devito being used as a jobber. Anyway when Tony Devito was announced, Vince on commentary claimed Tony was first cousins with Basil Devito. I couldnt find anything about this online so I assume it was a rib, because what fans in 1993 would know who Basil Devito was? Still I found it amusing.

[1991-07-14-WCW-Great American Bash] Sting vs Nikita Koloff (Russian Chain)
It's funny that they are dragging each other all over the ring when the chain looks so long. It looks like if they just knocked out the other guy in the middle area of the ring they could probably reach all 4 corners with a minimum of fuss. That is kind of what AEW did with their strap match. Although having to drag the guy around the ring is a nice visual. If they really wanted a chain match on this card, they could hame made this a regular match and let Sting win, and they could have made the Yellow Dog match a dog collar match.

WCW ongoing thread
I was watching the 91 Great American Bash and saw the lumberjack match between Big Josh and Blackblood. I have never seen the WCW tv leading to this, but was Big Josh supposed to be a kayfabe literal lumberjack? When I saw Blackblood carrying that big medieval looking executioner axe to the ring I had to wonder WCW's thought process at this time. Did he always carry that axe? If so, was the thought process "lumberjacks carry axes, and Blackblood carries an axe; therefore we should put him in a lumberjack match against a guy who is a kayfabe lumberjack!"

[1985-11-28-JCP-Starrcade '85] Tully Blanchard vs Magnum T.A. ('I Quit' Cage)
This match is great because it doesn't feel like a wrestling match. It doesn't even feel like a typical wrestling brawl. It feels like 2 men trying desperately to kill each other. I love how sparse the commentary is. I kind of think it would be better with no commentary at all, because the periods where all you hear is the crowd and the grunts and screams of the wrestlers is great. It gives a very unsettling feeling. This match is much more of a horror show then anything WWE is currently capable of doing. It just feels so real. I wonder if a lot of the early death match wrestlers were inspired by this as much as the Tupelo brawl because of the feeling of desperate violence. Like you can feel how exhausted and in pain the guys are by the end.

Ring of Honor Wrestling
I liked the Survival of the Fitest match from a couple weeks ago that Bandido won to earn that title shot. This past week they had Briscoe vs Briscoe in the Fight on the Farm and I didnt really like that at all. It wasnt that fun and seemed too fake and had too many camera cuts that I couldn't get into it.

Is Impact* the best wrestling promotion in history? *(Now TNA again, 2024)
Impact needs to put one of their cruiserweights in a mask, change his name to "Squirrel " and put him in a tag team with Moose.

WWE TV 06/07 - 06/13 Boxing is just pro wrestling now
Did they ever explain why Rey Mysterio has an eye again after losing it at The Horror Show? They do so many ridiculous and unbelievable stories on their show, especially with the Fiend. They should say Mysterio surgically replaced his missing eye with the eye from Eddie Guerrero 's corpse.

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
I think what Aleister was trying to do is neat. I dont see why its cringey.

Are they going to rename the TNT Championship?

I would love it if the match between Cody and Ogogo was like a 15 second squash where Ogogo just punches Cody once and knocks him out cold and pins him.

Is Impact* the best wrestling promotion in history? *(Now TNA again, 2024)
It was cool seeing Omega come out wearing 3 belts at the same time going up his chest looking like a breast plate or something. It's strange he didnt have the AAA belt though, instead he had both an Impact and a TNA belt.

WWE TV 05/10 - 05/16 Is Man City gonna choke?
I really liked the short match that Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander had on Raw. It had a strong storyline to it which I appreciated. Cedric wanted to beat Shelton because he wanted to prove that Shelton was the weak link in the Hurt Business and had been holding Cedric back. Cedric also wanted to show that he had learned how to beat Benjamin from their time teaming together. So Cedric was wrestling this match like he had a plan to beat Benjamin which he was so confident about that he took the time to act cocky and trash talk Benjamin during the match. This resulted in a match that I personally found more interesting than the average Raw match, because it felt like it had a kind of focus to it. It felt like Alexander with every move was trying to show up Benjamin and was trying to beat him. Most Raw matches just feel like a bunch of moves to me, which is why I appreciate what these two did in this short time they had. Shelton Benjamin ended up showing his veteran experience gave him the edge over Cedric as he first shows he can out wrestle Cedric by reversing a submission hold into a submission hold of Shelton's own, and then by apparently playing possum at the end of the match and then surprising Cedric for the win. It was short but it captured my interest the whole match which is more than I can say for most Raw matches.

Comic books and Manga Thread
I feel bad that I wasnt reading comics that DC One Million happened. I loved those big crossovers as a kid. I supposed I could pick up the collected version but those are never the same. I remember reading the collected version of Crisis on Infinite Earths and feeling like I was missing out on all the crossover issues and "pink sky" stories that are only tangentially related to the main story. I just remember walking past the comic rack in the grocery store as a kid and seeing all tie in comics with the logo for that year's big crossover on them and how cool that always seemed. And then of course going to the magazine section in the bookstore in the mall and browsing through all the wrestling magazines, looking for bloody pictures.

WWE TV 04/26 - 05/02 Roman Reigns fans are the smartest in the world
I thought the Alexa Bliss segment was supposed to be funny. I legitimately laughed out loud and thought it was the best one she had done because that one joke was funny but went way too long for a single joke. I feel bad that it looks like Benjamin and Alexander are basically going to be treated as jobbers now. They will probably be on Main Event in a month.

GWE Non-Thread Worthy Comments
That is awesome. I would really be interested in reading translations of what Japanese wrestler promos and the on-air interviews. It just feels like something that would of interest to me, to understand the wrestlers or the matches better.

Roddy Piper
Is there any babyface Piper matches where he goes against a bigger opponent or a monster heel? Or maybe a babyface I Quit match? I feel like that would have been a great role for him, as a babyface that would refuse to stay down even if he had no chance of winning but I dont remember any specific matches like that.

WWE TV 04/19 - 04/25 Florentino Perez I challenge you to a boxing match
I really liked that Orton/Riddle match. I feel like with Orton that most of the time he is boring, but when he wants to he can be good. Or maybe it depends on who his opponent is or who is the producer or agent for the match. One thing he does have is a kind of presence in the ring. I think he must really be an asshole in real life and that's why he is believable as an assole in the ring. Or it could be I am happy that Bray Wyatt was not involved in this match.

[1993-12-06-AJW] Akira Hokuto vs Shinobu Kandori
I just wanted to point out that 10 years ago Loss described a match as "cinematic " and this was 5 years before The Final Deletion with Broken Matt Hardy.

AEW Dynamite - April 14, 2021
I find it interesting that they had Anthony Ogogo debut the night they had Mike Tyson on, in the segment right before Tyson's segment. Is there any chance they are hoping that Tyson fans or boxing fans might be watching and might be interested in seeing another boxer wrestle?

Random Match Theory and Other Metrics
An interesting experiment but one that would not be feasible is take a group of people who have never seen wrestling, show them random matches from the nominees, and ask them to rank the wrestlers and compare the results to the GWE list. I wonder what wrestlers would rank around the same and what wrestlers would they rank wildly differently.

Wrestlemania 37
It's for people who dont even watch the show. It's for their investors and business partners so they can say their show incorporates "augmented reality " even though it's used in a very meaningless way that doesn't make any substantial enhancement to the show.

WWE has become a heel-run promotion
I think the problem is they are promoting the WWE Universe as the top heels aka the fans. Those annoying fans who wont just let Vince push who he wants to push. I'm sure Vince has been happy in recent years to have first the Saudis, then Fox, and now Peacock to give him money so he hasnt had to worry as much about the fans as in the past.

2026 Ideas
In the Shimoda nomination thread, El-P mentioned how Mita invented the Death Valley Driver and that shouldn't be forgotten. I was wondering how important the invention of new moves are to the GWE discussion, especially if the new moves are adopted by a lot of later wrestlers. I dont actually know a lot about the history of moves and wonder is this is an important subject to consider .

AEW Dynamite - April 7, 2021
I really liked the main event. There was some cool moves but I really liked how Matt Jackson was torn between being upset at Kenny and caring about Kenny. It feels like some real life friendships I've had. I found it interesting because in that moment I didnt know what Matt was going to do. And Jon Moxley seems so much better than he was a year ago. I think putting him with Kingston was so good for him. I dont think I really bought into him as a lone wolf. He is better when he is fighting for someone else then when he is just fighting for himself. A better babyface anyway. Moxley I feel like made a big part of us caring about what happens with the Bucks, because we care about what happens to Moxley. Also this will pivot to Bucks vs Moxley and Kingston which will be awesome.
