  1. AWA TV @ The Hammond Center 1-20-88 The camera pans across sleek new AWA banners hanging from the rafters. The red, white and blue AWA logo is in the middle of the new black ring canvas with gold ring ropes and posts. 'Champagne' Gerry Morrow (wearing a white suit and white fedora hat) is standing in the middle of the ring with a mic. "HAHAHAHA! Welcome to de new AWA!" The crowd roars as confetti falls from the ceiling. Commercial Break The Glamour Boys vs Sam Smith and Neil Jordan The Glamour Boys keep the excitement going with their high octane offense. The fans are on their feet as Doll hits a missile dropkick on Jordan as Simpson follows with a flying splash off the top rope (Glam Slam Thank You Maam) for the win. Larry Nelson interviews the Glamour Boys about their upcoming world tag team title shot at Title Night on February 4th. The Glamour Boys say they've been waiting a long time for this opportunity and now's the time to win the titles! Commercial Break Carlos Colon vs. Todd Rooney Judging by the fans reaction, Colon has been fully redeemed and forgiven. Colon hits a diving clothesline from the top rope for the win. Colon's excitement shows as he does a cartwheel. Nelson: Carlos, just listen to these great fans. Colon: It's incredible! Thank you! Thank you so much! Boos as Larry Zbyszko arrogantly walks out. Nelson: Come on Larry, why ruin a special moment. Larry: Do me a favor Nelson and keep your mouth shut! You know something Colon, you make me sick. This whole thing about redemption and forgiveness makes me want to puke. You begging for these spudheads affection is just pathetic. I mean, what kind of man are you? Just looking at you, I would say a very weak one. Colon: If you have a problem with me Larry, we can settle it in the ring. Until then, stay out of my way. Colon starts to walk away but Larry pushes him from behind. Colon turns around and tackles Larry! Both men are rolling around punching each other until officials come out to break it up. Commercial Break Synergy (Brian Adias and Ricky Rice) vs. Badd Company w/DDP Both teams recently made their debuts and want to get on the fast track. The match is fast paced and exciting. Both teams are looking good. After a few minutes, Synergy is in control. Adias hoists Paul Diamond up and executes an airplane spin. Adias drops him and tags in Rice. Rice goes to the top rope. Tanaka runs in but Adias knocks him back. DDP gets on the apron and distracts Adias. Diamond starts to rise as Rice hits a sunset flip off the top rope 1..2..Tanaka nails Rice with a karate kick to the face. Diamond rolls over. The Ref counts 1..2..3! Adias turns around a second too late. DDP gets in there and makes sure everybody knows Badd Co. won the match. Commercial Break Nelson: I'm standing here with the AWA operations manager Gerry Morrow. That was quite the kick off tonight. I have to say, excitement is in the air. I understand you have some special announcements to make. Morrow: AHHH Larry, excitement is de right word. De new and improve AWA is off and running. (Gerry pulls out and bag and pulls out a new championship belt) Impressive isn't it? I have decided to retire de International title and it will be replaced with dis title. Nelson: Wow! Really? And what is this this new title's name? Morrow: As you know I am not from dis country. However, I am living proof dat dis country is de land of opportunity and I will recognize dat. Dis championship belt will be known as de AWA Mid American title. Now, El Canek was to be presented with dis title but after what happened last week at de hands of Crusher Blackwell, he will be out of action for awhile. It is very tragic, but de show must go on. I have decided dat on February 4th at Title Night, Mike George will wrestle Austin Idol for de Mid America title. Best of luck to both men. Nelson: How about that! Huge news indeed. We'll be right back. We see two cowboys riding horses at full speed across a ranch as the sun sets. The Gunslingers ride again! Commercial Break 'Gentleman' Chris Adams w/Baby Doll vs. Arnie Goldstein Baby Doll claps as Adams hits the Superkick for the win. Nelson: Chris Adams, Baby Doll, I know you must be excited to be a part of the AWA. Any plans for the future? Adams: Last week I heard Nikita Koloff saying he wants to be a part of the AWA's big plans. Nikita, let's get one thing straight, Chris Adams is going to take the AWA to heights it has never seen. I'm the big star around here and you better know your place. Commercial Break 'The Universal Heartthrob' Austin Idol vs. Keith Stetson Idol gives the fans a show before finishing things off with the Las Vegas Leglock. Nelson: Austin Idol, what a tremendous opportunity you have on February 4th at Title Night. It's you and Mike George for the Mid American Title. Idol: Oh darling, 1988 is off to a great start and Austin Idol is ready for some gold brother! Boos as Mike George wheels Greg Gagne out in a wheel chair. George snatches the mic from Nelson and hands it to Gagne. Gagne: Austin Idol, I never liked you. You come out here with all this razzle dazzle but to me you're nothing but a clown. You have no business being in the ring with a technical professional like Marvelous Mike George. Be that as it may, come title night, Mike is going to simply outwrestle and outwit you on his way to putting gold back around his waist. He shouldn't have lost the title in the first place. Well, karma came back on El Canek and luck is on our side, the way it should be. Idol: Yea Greg, you're great at having goons do your dirty work. We all know what happens when you try to get involved. How's that wheel chair working out for you? Gagne: Careful Clown! You don't want to be on the Gagne Gang hitlist. Because this is what happens. WHAM! Mike George hits Idol with a pair of brass knuckles! George smiles, steps over Idol and wheels Gagne away. Commercial Break Nelson: Fans, Idol was helped out of here and you can bet he'll be ready for Mike George at title night. Fans, at SuperClash 2 we all witnessed an absolute classic as Jumbo Tsuruta narrowly defeated Tatsumi Fujinami. I'm pleased to announce a rematch has been signed. Those two will meet in their homeland Japan next month and we will show you that match when it takes place. Ok...oh wait a minute, Dave Taylor is coming over. Taylor: Larry Nelson, after my British Bomber partner Johnny Smith left, I took a long time to ponder things. I've come to the conclusion that the superior wrestlers do in fact come from the United Kingdom. Now it's time to prove it. I have found a partner who believes in my cause. We are going to represent the UK with the upmost pride. Introducing my partner, Giant Haystacks! Nelson: My goodness! United Kingdom vs. Vic Dutro and Willie Lopez Awesome display as United Kingdom backs up Taylor's words. Taylor hits Lopez with a running forearm blast and tags in Haystacks. Haystacks slams Lopez and drops a big elbow for the easy win. Commercial Break Special Challenge Match! 'Dynamite' DJ Peterson vs. 'Mr. Magnificent' Keven Kelly Kelly, for some reason challenged his former long time rival DJ Peterson. Without hesitation DJ accepted. The bell rings and these two go at it. It's a slugfest! These guys go back and forth for awhile. Kelly gets the advantage and works over DJ with slams, back breakers, stomps and knee drops. Kelly clamps on a bearhug. DJ fires up and breaks it with a few ear claps. DJ comes back with a vengeance. DJ clotheslines Kelly down, swings off the ropes and hits a jumping elbow drop. DJ picks up Kelly and hits a delayed vertical suplex. DJ goes to the top rope. Kelly in desperation grabs the Ref's foot. The Ref is yelling down at Kelly, wondering what he's doing. Wait a minute! The Vin Man runs out and pushes DJ off the top rope! Kelly releases the Ref, staggers up, grabs DJ and clamps on the full nelson! Kelly swings DJ around and tosses him, then covers 1..2..3! BOOOOOOOO! Vinnie jumps in the ring and hugs Kelly. Vinnie grabs the mic. "Reunited and it feels so good. Yea!" Commercial Break We once again see the muscular specimen with wild hair standing on top of a mountain. His back is turned. He starts shaking his head. He raises his arms and starts shaking them. "Warriors! I can feel it! You can feel it too!" 'The Latin Heartthrob' Al Perez vs. Harold Bannister Perez looks crisp as he works over his opponent and finishes him off with the helicopter drop! Nelson: Al Perez, on February 4th at title night, you get the biggest opportunity of your career, an AWA world title shot against Bad News Brown. Bad News might be taking you a little to lightly. Perez: Hey make no mistake about it, I know I'm going in as the underdog but I've been winning in that role since I arrived here. I won the National tag team titles. I was on the winning War Games team and I came out victorious in a taped fist match at SuperClash 2. I've proven myself and rest assured I'm more than ready for this amazing opportunity. Bad News Brown, get ready because I'm coming at you with everything I have and more! Commercial Break AWA TV Title Bout Nick Busick (C) vs. Kokina w/Professor Bill Ash The bell rings and Ash casually walks out of the ring. He stops, looks at Busick and shakes his head. As Busick watches him exit, Kokina blasts him with a chop to the back of the head. Kokina chops away, grabs Busick and headbutts the back of his head. Kokina swings Busick to the ropes and puts him down with a big chop. Kokina picks up Busick, puts his arm behind him and hammerlock slams him down on his hurt shoulder. Kokina follows with a standing leg drop 1..2..Busick gets his foot on the rope. Ash berates the Ref. Kokina pulls Busick out, backs up and goes for a diving headbutt but Busick moves! Busick staggers up favoring his shoulder. Kokina starts to rise but Busick nails him with a knee lift. Kokina tries to rise again but Busick tags him with a running knee strike. Busick pumps his fists. Ash gets on the apron but Busick sends him flying with a running forearm. Busick hops on the middle ropes. Kokina staggers up as Busick nails him with a double axehandle 1,,2,,Kick Out. Kokina rises as Busick swings off the ropes and puts Kokina down with a diving (the healthy one) shoulder tackle 1..2..Kick Out. Busick picks up Kokina but Kokina rakes his eyes and hurls him out of the ring. Kokina clears the cobwebs and goes to the outside. Kokina goes into savage mode, grabs a chair and blasts Busick's shoulder with it. The Ref signals for the DQ. Kokina hits Busick's shoulder again with the chair. Kokina picks up Busick and rams him shoulder first into the steel post. Kokina picks up the chair again and walks towards Busick. Hold on! BILLY JACK STRONG sprints out, grabs Kokina from behind and pushes him into the steel post! What's going on here?!?! Ash has a shocked look on his face as he looks at Strong while backing up towards Kokina. Strong stands over Busick as the show ends. Title Night Special TV event Saturday February 4th From the Mecca in Milwaukee AWA World Title Bout Bad News Brown (C) vs. 'The Latin Heartthrob' Al Perez AWA World Tag Team Title Bout The Bruise Brothers (C) vs. The Glamour Boys For the AWA Mid-American Title Austin Idol vs. 'Marvelous' Mike George w/Greg Gagne AWA National Tag Team Title Bout Venomous (C) vs. The Technicians AWA TV Title Bout Nick Busick (C) vs. The winner of next week's match between Rip Oliver and Richard Charland
  2. An Alliance with Debeers, Foley and Finlay! This is going to get brutal! The Commandos get an impressive win but Radiance has an admirer. Borne beats Jaggers in a great match up. Smiley sends a message that Miss Linda has quite a stable as well. Bad timing for Starr because SSM was pissed! Paul Jones Army might've made a huge mistake. Terry Taylor is a Horsemen! I always thought he would've made a great Horsemen. Solid choice! He kicks things off with a big win over the Soul Man. Worldwide, Kaz, Bart and The Stud Stable get in good showcases. Kabuki earns a shot at SSM but I hope they were watching on Saturday because that's what they're in for. SuperBrawl is born and we already have a rematch for the tag titles signed. Things are looking good.
  3. All good. Life's always first.
  4. Vader begins this year's path of destruction. Ellering and Jake take some serious shots at Dibiase. Dibiase fires back with shots of his own. Thanks to some solid planning by Jake, Mighty Goliath gets some serious payback on Dibiase. Even though he didn't get the title, it was still a feel good moment and solidifies Goliath as a fan favorite. Herc and Scott are off to a great start. Cool seeing seeds planted with the Steiners. Hot Stuff Inc, are riding high but Prichard and the tag champs are coming for them. Duggan with another hard hitting TV title defense. Chaotic 6 man tag ends the show with Vader giving the heels the advantage. Bring on Vader vs. Dr. Death!
  5. Finlay with Foley could be trouble for the NWA. Vets Jaggers and Johnson pull out nice wins. Trinity have been unstoppable since winning the 6 man titles. Brody ends the night in a big way. The biggest heel in the game earns a world title shot. The Candyman still can. Always liked the mysterious Kabuki. Glad he's in a good role here. I've always been a sucker for midcard feuds. The Youngbloods and Moondogs fits that bill well. Raging Bull puts the monster down. LOL! For reasons. That says it all. Flair sends the fans home really happy by retaining against Debeers. Good booking with the finish. Debeers doesn't lose any heat.
  6. You've really captured the Florida feel. Awesome job referencing Roop's Maha Singh character. Looks like Sullivan's right, there might still be some Maha deep down in Roop. Like everyone else wants to know, who is the master??? Very good perspective on Graham. Like Rain said, we may not be huge fans of certain wrestlers but we can't dismiss how over they were in certain territories. The next card is stacked. Every match looks important.
  7. Cornette fires a shot at RPG. We'll see how RPG responds. This could be the best verbal feud of all time. Rose recruits the Bruise Brothers. Sin City Superstars are already questioning a promised title shot, I have a feeling this could blow up on Rose. I see big things ahead for the Force of July. Loving these guys! It's funny, when Windham came out with the NOE, I immediately went to his Widowmaker character. So glad you did that. Now we can see its full potential. Another reason why I love this game. You've got a gem feud with Owen and Buzz. Snow's win over Malenko gets him immediate credibility. I think Eddie and Barr will be wearing gold soon. Cow Palace, Pierre shows Cactus that he can get a little nuts as well. Blackman's woes continue. St. Clair shows off his toughness. Grave Digger buries the Ladies Man. Force of July puts the Sin City Superstars title request on hold. Rose shows young Brian the ropes. The Brigade/NOE feud is going to set 88 on fire. Fresno, Cheetah Kid is rapidly rising the LHW ranks. Damn, beating the Southern Boys proves the Bruise Brothers are for real. The champions better not forget about Billy Jack. Windham knocks over the first Brigade domino. Nothing like two young, energetic and hungry teams going at it. Oh man I can't wait for the Hitman/Anvil TV title match! Hall is off and running as CA. Champ. Hall's had some good territory runs in our game but 88 could make him a bonafide main eventer.
  8. AWA TV @ The Hammond Center 1-13-88 Footage from last week is shown as Crusher Blackwell loses it and slams announcer Ken Resnick on the concrete. Larry Nelson: Hello fans and welcome to AWA Major League Wrestling. I'm Larry Nelson and I'll be filling in for Ken Resnick. I wish this was under better circumstances but I can tell you that Ken is resting comfortably at home and I'm sure will be back very soon. I also can tell you that after that despicable and sickening action, Crusher Blackwell has been suspended until further notice. Ok, big show lined up as all the AWA champions will be here tonight. Also, Kokina will face one half of the Technicians and former National tag champ Mark Fleming and the winner will get a TV title shot next week. Right now, we're going to kick things off with the Beauty Shop. Take it away Brenda. The camera zooms in on the glowing pink Beauty Shop sign, then pans down on Brenda Britton. Brenda: Hi everybody and welcome to a very, very, very special Beauty Shop. Big things are happening in the AWA and I'm kicking 1988 off with a bang. My very, very, very special guest has promised a blockbuster announcement. Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome out, the millionaire himself, and a very dear friend of mine, Champagne Gerry Morrow! BOOOOOOS as Morrow struts out wearing a white tuxedo, fedora hat and sunglasses. He kisses Brenda's hand and hugs her. Morrow: AHHHHH Brenda, so great to be here and I feel so good. Britton: Gerry, you look like a million bucks! Ok, I can't take it anymore. What's your big announcement? Morrow: For you Brenda, I shall get right to de point. I have once again become a very rich man. I have thought long and hard on what to do with de money. SO! I have made an investment. Britton: Sounds intriguing. Morrow: HAHAHA! Well listen to dis. I have invested in de AWA! Britton: What! What does that mean? Morrow: HAHAHAHA! It means that I'm now a partner, an authority figure. I will be in charge of wrestling operations. I get to call de shots. Britton: WOW! Are you serious? This is incredible! Morrow: I'm going to take de AWA to the highest heights possible. Bright lights, big cities! I am going to make de AWA a powerhouse global promotion. Britton: I know you will Gerry! This is so exciting! Can you tell us any plans? Morrow: Well, I can tell you a little something. Once a month there will be a TV special called TITLE NIGHT. All titles will be defended on dat night. Different cities will host de events. I can also tell you de next pay per view will take place in April. Don't worry, I will have so much more in de weeks to come. Brenda, you made dis all possible and I'll never forget dat. You always have a home here. Britton: AW Gerry, you're the best! My head is spinning! What a bombshell! I know you'll work wonders with the AWA and I'm looking forward to watching you take the AWA to new and exciting heights. Until next week, toooodles! Commercial Break AWA National tag team champs Venomous vs. Keith Loftner and Melvin Sharpe The new National Champs get a big ovation as they enter the ring. The fans have really taken a liking to them and their exciting style. Venomous excite the fans with their high octane offense. Cobra hits a superplex on Sharpe as Kat follows with a moonsault for the pin! The fans are up and cheering as Venomous hold up their titles. Commercial Break 'Marvelous' Mike George w/Greg Gagne vs. Clinton Stitch Mike wheels Greg out in a wheelchair and sits him by the ring. Mike makes short work of Clinton and finishes him off with the Russian Leg Sweep. Nelson: With me now is the former International Champ Mike George along with Greg Gagne. Greg, I'm assuming your injuries stem from El Canek? Gagne: Oh, you're a real genius Nelson. I never thought somebody replacing Resnick would be a downgrade, but that's exactly what you are. Look what that animal El Canek did! I'm in a wheelchair because of that ape! Well, he's going to pay and pay hard! 1988 is my year! Gagne's Gang is growing. I already have the greatest International champion of all time Mike George. Now, I'd like to introduce my tag team. I already had my eye on them but they sealed the deal by taking out that pest Mando Guererro. I'm talking about Jerry Stubbs and Gary Young, the Fortunate Ones! Boos as the Fortunate Ones (wearing their T-Shirts with thumbs up on the back) come out and shake hands with Gagne and George. Everybody is all smiles. Gagne: My good buddy Bruce Hart left the AWA because of Mando Guerrero. You guys made Mando pay and now you're with me. Gary Young, Jerry Stubbs here is a partner you can count on and I'm the mentor you've been looking for. Gentlemen, welcome to Gagne's Gang. As for you Canek, I've got a surprise for you and trust me, you'll never see it coming! Nelson, you stooge, we're done here! The Fortunate Ones bump past Nelson as George wheels Gagne away. Commercial Break Nikita Koloff vs. Todd Rooney The fans go wild as Nikita hits the Russian Sickle and it's all over! Nelson: Nikita, you've quickly become a fan favorite here in the AWA. After your successful route of the Dream Machine at SuperClash 2, what's next? Nikita: I see a lot of big things going on in the AWA and Nikita wants to be a part of those big plans. Commercial Break We see a man swimming laps, followed by him hitting the speedbag, followed by him golfing. The next scene is nighttime. He's dressed in a suit and walking to a limo. He turns around and smiles. Chicky Starr is coming to the AWA! Nelson: The AWA isn't wasting any time bringing in International stars and it looks like Chicky Starr is one of them. Hold on! Corporal Kirchner is coming over. Kirchner: I'm out here for one reason! Frenchy Martin! Your goon Richard Charland put my partner Jesse Barr out of action by piledriving him on the concrete. You hurt him bad and now you're going to get hurt! I've got a Ref, so get out here and let's do this! The fans are cheering as Kirchner hits the ring. A minute later. BOOOOS as Frenchy comes out waving the Quebec Flag. Kirchner is at the ropes yelling at Frenchy. WHAM! From behind, Charland nails Kirchner! The Ref signals for the bell as this impromptu match begins. Charland stomps down on Kirchner, picks him up and slams him down. Charland hops on the middle ropes and crashes down with a knee drop 1..2..Kick Out. Charland swings Kirchner to the ropes but misses a clothesline, Kirchner swings back and clotheslines Charland down. Kirchner stomps away on Charland, picks him up and hits a fallaway slam. Kirchner picks up Charland and hits a Fireman's Carry Slam 1..2..NO! Frenchy hits Kirchner with the Quebec Flag! Frenchy helps Charland out to safety as Kirchner groggily gets up with a pissed off look. Commercial Break AWA World Tag Team Champs The Bruise Brothers vs. Sam Smith and Neil Jordan Atlas and Cameron brutally tear their opponents up and viciously end things with stereo double axehandles to Jordan's head. Nelson: Wow! That was devastating. Now, something I heard was that after what happened to him at the hands of the Road Warriors at SuperClash, Snowman is no longer with you guys. Cameron: Those painted up freaks went way to far! They knew they were going down and crossed a line. From now on, the Bruise Brothers will show no mercy! Atlas: That's right! We had the Road Warriors beaten and begging, then they had to attack our brother. Cowards! Nelson: I don't think that's the way it went down, but moving on, at the first Title Night on February 4th, you will be defending the world titles against the number one contenders, the Glamour Boys. Atlas: We can't wait to put a thrashing on those pretty boys! No Mercy! Glamour Boys you best think twice because you don't know what you're dealing with! Cameron: They aint got a clue! Commercial Break AWA International Champ El Canek vs. Harold Bannister Everybody is puzzled because Canek has yet to come out. Nelson: I'm not sure what's going on here but we have security looking around. Hold on, ok, what? Something is going on in the locker room. We see the cameraman running up to a locker room. The door is open and inside, Crusher Blackwell is tossing security members all around. El Canek is lying on the ground. Blackwell picks up Canek and throws him into the lockers. Blackwell slams Canek on the ground, backs up and splashes him! Blackwell then pushes the lockers on top of Canek! Several wrestlers run in to stop Blackwell. In the background, a smiling Greg Gagne is seen being wheeled away. Commercial Break 'Crippler' Rip Oliver vs. Ray Glader Oliver is back in the single's game and hasn't lost a step as he hits a forearm blast from the middle ropes for the win. Commercial Break Scott 'Powerhouse' Putski vs. Paul Romero Putski has some serious momentum going after his big SuperClash victory with the Glamour Boys. The fans cheer as Putski hits the Polish Hammer for the win. Commercial Break The Original Midnight Express w/Norvell Austin vs. Vic Dutro and Willie Lopez The Express look united as ever and hit a double hot shot for the win. Norvell cuts a promo and says his team is ready for some gold brother! Commercial Break Nelson: Fans, with me now is the AWA TV Champ Nick Busick. Nick, in a few moments the winner of the next match will get a shot at your TV title next week. But first I want to congratulate you for successfully defending that title for an entire year. What an amazing feat. Busick: Thank you Larry. I won this title on my first night in the AWA and made a vow to be a fighting champ. I took on all comers and had some hard matches but here I am still holding this title with pride. Nelson: You've certainly represented the AWA well. Your cage match with Billy Jak Strong at SuperClash was one of the most hard hitting matches I've ever seen. How you holding up? Busick: I'm not going to lie, I'm a little banged up, especially my shoulder, but hey, that's the life of a champion and you can rest assured, I'll be ready to defend it next week. Commercial Break Winner gets a TV title shot next week Kokina w/Professor Bill Ash vs. Mark Fleming w/Brad Rheingans Ash is making a big scene claiming Rheingans doesn't have a manager's license and should leave. Rheingans talks it over with Fleming, shakes his hand and exits without causing a disruption. The first few minutes is Fleming trying to overcome Kokina's size advantage. Kokina finally gets a grip on Fleming and puts him down with a headbutt. Kokina picks up Fleming and slams him down, then follows with a standing leg drop 1..2..Fleming gets his shoulder up. Kokina continues to work Fleming over, swings him to the ropes but misses a chop, Fleming swings back and dropkicks Kokina. Kokina's staggering. Fleming dropkicks him again, but Kokina doesn't go down. Kokina's wobbling as Fleming swings off the ropes and puts Kokina down with a flying press 1..2..Kick out. Kokina starts to rise as Fleming applies the rear naked chokehold! Ash is having a breakdown on the outside. Fleming wrenches away. Kokina slowly rises and just falls back to luckily break the hold. Kokina rises and staggers around. Fleming slowly starts to rise. Kokina nails him with a spin kick! Kokina picks up Fleming and hits a Samoan Drop 1..2..3! Ash rushes the ring and holds Kokina's arm up. Commercial Break Nelson: What a show this has been. I've been told by our new C.O.O. Gerry Morrow that AWA television will have a new look next week. We'll see what that's all about. Crusher Blackwell was arrested and escorted out of the building. I'll hope to have an update on that situation next week. I'm really shocked by Blackwell's behavior and I hope El Canek is ok. Next week, Austin Idol will be here as well as Chris Adams, Carlos Colon, the Glamour Boys and much more, plus Nick Busick defends the TV title against Kokina. Right now I want to bring out the AWA world champion, Bad News Brown. Brown comes out wearing a buttoned down suit, with a gold chain. The man is money! The world title is on his shoulder. Nelson: Bad News Brown, you've held on to that title since July and have taken on all comers. Most recently you defeated Jerry Lawler at SuperClash. Now, some say Lawler probably would've won the match if Chris Adams and Baby Doll didn't interfere. Brown: You better show me better respect than that Nelson, or I won't hesitate a second to teach you some. I'm the AWA world champ and nobody and I mean nobody can beat me. I didn't ask for any help. I can't help it if Lawler was so disliked and had numerous enemies. Hey, I walk alone and won this title alone. I don't need anybody or any help. Nelson: Ok, well next up for you is a title defense at Title Night. You'll be defending against the Latin Heartthrob Al Perez. Brown: Oh you got that right. Perez is next and that cockroach has no chance! Nelson: Be careful. He's a War Games survivor and just defeated Larry Zbyszko in a taped fist match at SuperClash. He can wrestle and he can fight. Brown: You really are a moron and I'm getting real tired of your attitude. Perez can't handle what I've got, plain and simple. He's a boy in a man's game. As for you Nelson, you're on thin ice with me and you better watch yourself! Brown holds up his title and raises his fist as the show ends.
  9. NWA is off and running in 88! Look who pops up, none other than Sean Moody. Nice addition to the announcing team. Renegade Warriors are off to a good start by beating the restructured Tough Guy Inc. Kaz gets his strength over in a big way but the crafty heel vet Black Bart picks up the win. Beating 3 men is a sure fire way to get over. Add in Debeers and Morgan's already a hot commodity. Poor Moody had his hands full with Tully and the Andersons LOL. Tully vs. Flair is going to be epic! Can't wait to see who the next Horsemen is. The name Anderson goes a long way. With Ole and Arn mentoring him, Brad should live up to expectations. SSM has things going his way until all hell breaks loose. In a very short amount of time, Paul Jones has acquired the services of Abby, Borne and Kabuki! WOW! The show ends with a booming bang as RNR arrive and defeat the Commonwealth for the tag titles! RnR will draw huge crowds all across the NWA loop. No doubt about it. Worldwide, Jones strikes again, with the Moondogs! This is getting better and better. Mega Man keeps up his winning ways. Starr gets the TV title shot, but I wouldn't want to face SSM right now. Love the factions going here. Jones has quite the cliental while Debeers has some big things planned. Always liked Ron Garvin. His blue collar style will be a great fit in the NWA. Great stuff!
  10. The American Drean and Tony Schiavone kick WCW off! Bigelow and Steamboat in a unification match at the first pay per view! Bring it on! I really like your creative booking for all the titles. Brings something fresh and special to each one. Akbar makes his point and reminds people how devastating his men are. I have a feeling Dusty won't be on commentary full time if he keeps getting antagonized. I wouldn't mind seeing Race and Dusty go at it one more time. When Bock puts something over, it's a big deal. The tag team division is stacked and the Road Warriors want them all. DAMN!!!! Savage and the Road Warriors going at it with the Freebirds! What a way to end the show. This feud could be HUGE! WCW is where the big boys play!
  11. It didn't take long for Schultz to prove himself right. Dominating debut for the Natural Disasters! Bedlam and Cooley could've gone either way. Cooley pulls out the crowd pleasing win. Cooley's always been a game favorite, nice to see him off to a good start here. Money talks. Hansen battling Sullivan's Army is going to get nuts! Nightmares and Stallions put on an exciting match. Nightmares pull it out but Stallions look strong as well. The King has arrived! Looking forward to watching Lawler in a fresh territory. I think he needed a change of scenery and since Florida is the new hot spot, this will be fun. The war between Graham and Sullivan is already one of the hottest feuds in the game. Who was that crazy fan? Graham better send Hansen a plane ticket and fast. Solid main event with TNT getting the win but Burke gets the heat. Great way to introduce the Caribbean Express. Competitive matches, big surprises, hot angles, your debut gets a double thumbs up.
  12. Once again, Ladd is the man! Loved his explanation of Tully. Ladd's going to take Mid South to new levels. Well, Dibiase proves everybody's got a price and Robley had his. Poor Goliath is left out. I wonder who Dibiase has in mind for Nord? Williams is rightfully named Wrestler of the Year. However, Woman and Luger disagree. Instant feud! I liked Williams fired up promo. Leon White's transition to Vader in this game has been so well done. 88 could be Vader's big breakout year. Ellering and Jake gel so well. The promos alone are above and beyond. Dibiase shows his brutal side until Jake puts a stop to it. This feud will never get old. I knew we would hear from Hot Stuff Inc after running the Freebirds out of town. 'Dr. of Dementia' LOL, better get some friend and fast. JYD starts off 88 in dominating fashion. He's still got some fuel in the tank. At this point in his career, he's defiantly in the right place. Same goes for Wahoo and Uncle Ivan.
  13. AWA TV @ The Hammond Center 1-6-88 All the SuperClash 2 highlights are shown to Steppenwolf's Rock Me. The music video ends with a bloody Bad News Brown holding the AWA world title high. Following the video we see Jerry Jarrett on screen. Jarrett: Hello fans, as you've probably heard by now, I'm parting ways with the AWA to pursue other endeavors. I want to say from the bottom of my heart it has been a pleasure. I've enjoyed every moment here in the AWA and I sincerely want to thank each and every one of you and your tremendous support. Now I would like to turn the time over to Lance Russell. Lance: I echo the words of Jerry Jarrett. I can't tell you how much I've also enjoyed my time here. It's been my pleasure calling matches, interviewing wrestlers and being a part of this great team. One of my favorites to interview has always been The King, Jerry Lawler. If you haven't heard, Jerry will be leaving the AWA as well. He really wanted to publicly say goodbye, so he's going to do it from the hospital. (smiles and waves) So long AWA! Jerry Lawler is sitting in a hospital bed with his head bandaged. Lawler: I really wish this was under better circumstances but I'm going to make the best of it. It's been my pleasure to have held the AWA world title twice and defend it against the best competition in the world. I've had my ups and down in the AWA but in the end, always came out on top. A lot of that had to do with the fans overwhelming support. I know I came up short in my last quest for the world title but that's how it goes sometimes. My leaving had nothing to do with the fans or the promotion. It was just time for the King to try something new. So, I'll see you somewhere down the road. Thank you! Commercial Break Resnick: Well fans, I know that was a lot to take in and process. I know the AWA wishes them the very best of luck. Times are changing in the AWA but I can tell you they're going to be exciting changes. You'll hear about them in the coming weeks. SuperClash 2 is in the books and what a historic night that was. Most of the wrestlers appearing at SuperClash have been given a well deserved vacation but we have a lot of action and a lot of debuts, so let's get to the ring. Synergy (Brian Adias and Ricky Rice) vs. Sam Smith and Corey Gavel Adias and Rice are wearing yellow boots, black wrestling pants with a yellow stripe swirled around them. They high five fans and spring into the ring. They work their opponents over with quick tags and high octane offense before winning the match with a double dropkick. Commercial Break Kokina w/Professor Bill Ash vs. Todd Rooney Kokina is brutal tonight as he ragdolls Rooney all over the ring. Kokina slams Rooney, swings off the ropes and hits the big splash for the easy win. Resnick: Bill Ash! What's going on here? Ash: It's Professor to you idiot! Do you know why I'm a professor? It's because I'm so smart! As you know I tried a tag team experiment and in the end, it failed. Well, a professor takes failure and rebounds with success. I tried changing two men but I realized it doesn't work. The Honor Roll have been dismissed. Did you see the havoc Kokina unleashed in the battle royal? Resnick: Indeed I did, and I was almost a victim but was saved by his former partner Jimmy Snuka. I was shocked at what he did to his partner and friend. Ash: Kokina's true self came out and I saw that. There's no need to change this man. I will unleash his full potential on the AWA. You haven't seen anything yet! Commercial Break The Fortunate Ones (Jerry Stubbs and Gary Young) vs. Vic Dutro and Willie Lopez Stubbs and Young arrogantly walk into the ring wearing T-Shirts with two thumbs up on the back. They work well together and aren't shy about breaking the rules. The match ends with a devastating double DDT! Resnick: Impressive debut for the Fortunate Ones. I have to ask, where does the name come from? Stubbs: Real simple. We were fortunate enough to cross paths at the right time. And we're fortunate enough to have somebody very interested in us. A mentor, so to speak. Resnick: And who might that be? Stubbs: We'll tell you when we want. Young: I've always wanted a mentor and was fortunate enough to find both a mentor and a partner. We know our mentor is listening and we're going to prove our worth real soon. Commercial Break Resnick: Ok, we're just about set...wait a minute, Norvell Austin is coming over. Norvell: Resnick, you saw my Midnights clean up at SuperClash and now I'm taking them to gold. But first! I would like to introduce my newest client. He's big, bad and way too cool. Get ready for Cannonball Griz! Cannonball Griz w/Norvell Austin vs. Clyde Putnam Griz steps in the ring wearing shades and a literal gold chain wrapped around his neck (Hercules style) Norvell cheers as Griz destroys his opponent, Griz picks Putnam up, walks around and powerslams him over for the win. Commercial Break Footage from SuperClash is shown as Baby Doll distracts Jerry Lawler, which leads to an Adams superkick on Lawler! We come back and see Chris Adams and Baby Doll in the locker room right after SuperClash. Baby Doll: Well, well, well. You didn't think I was going to forget about Jerry Lawler, did you? After all is said and done, Lawler is the one laid out and I'm here with the real last man standing Chris Adams. Adams: That's right! I took out Tom Zenk as an appetizer and for the main course I took out the self proclaimed King. All in one night! Chris Adams is for real and Chris Adams is the hottest thing in the AWA! Commercial Break Mando Guerrero vs. Joseph Stamp Mando looks great and wins the match with a flying body press! OH NO! Mando's jumped from behind by the Fortunate Ones! They stomp away on Mando, pick him up and throat drop him on the top rope. They pick up Mando and deliver consecutive double DDT's! They leave Mando lying there and give a double thumbs up on the way out. Commercial Break We come back and see Brenda Britton and Gerry Morrow sitting on a yacht. Brenda: Hi everybody! Wow! I'm having the time of my life with my millionaire friend Gerry Morrow. Gerry, this has been amazing! Morrow: AHHHHHH Brenda, I owe it all to you. I also want to say hello to my Priceless Alumni George and Carl. Their medical expenses have been paid in full and of course a little bit extra. A man shouldn't forget his friends. Brenda: You're a true friend Gerry. The only thing I can ask is what's next. Morrow: Ah Brenda, I thought you would never ask. I have a big surprise and a huge announcement. However, an announcement like dis can only happen on your show. Because everything happens there. Brenda: Oh my! I can't wait! Ok, next week, my guest on the Beauty Shop will be the millionaire himself Champagne Gerry Morrow! The two hold up their glasses and toast to new beginnings. Commercial Break We come back and a very charismatic and flamboyant man with hair like a lion is standing in the ring. " It's me, it's me, it's DDP, Diamond Dallas Page! I'm here to present to you a team that's ba ba ba bad to the ba ba bone. They're so bad they spell bad with two Ds. Ladies and Gentlemen, Paul Diamond and Pat Tanaka, Badd Company! Badd Company w/ DDP vs. Neil Jordan and Trent Watkins Diamond and Tanaka gel so well, that they make it look easy. Tanaka karate kicks Jordan into a bridging back suplex by Diamond for the pin. Commercial Break A muscular man with wild hair is standing on top of a mountain. His back is turned. He raises his arms and starts shaking them. "Speak to me Warriors!" Commercial Break Resnick: Ok fans, next week in action will be 2 time International Champ El Canek. New National tag champs Venomous. We'll hear from TV champ Nick Busick as well as World tag champs the Bruise Brothers. AWA World champ Bad News Brown will address us as well. That and so much more. The fans cheer as Crusher Blackwell comes out with his head bandaged up. The fans chant "You were robbed" Resnick: Crusher Blackwell. I know it must be heartbreaking for you. How does it fell to miss out on one million dollars? Blackwell looks around at the fans, then looks down and back up at Resnick. Blackwell: This entire night, all I've heard is people crying about Jerry Lawler and Jerry Jarrett and Lance Russell. You out here talking about how great SuperClash was. All these exciting debuts. But not once did anybody mention how I was cheated out of a million dollars! Now, you dare ask how it feels? Blackwell grabs Resnick by his shirt and shakes him! Blackwell: How do you think it feels?!?! Blackwell throws Resnick down. Resnick rolls around and tries to crawl away but Blackwell picks him up and slams him on the concrete! A swarm of officials and security come out to stop this madness. The fans are in complete shock as silence falls over the arena.
  14. Snow's all smiles now, but he might need some friends soon. Rose and the Sin City Superstars are made for each other. Rose always has a plan. Destruction Crew live up to RPG's intro. HMMMM, I wonder what's going through Cactus Jack's mind? Bull Pain continues Blackman's woes. Albright's getting the big man push. Who can take this guy down? Windham's been dropping the hints and the turn happens. Windham as a heel will be dangerous, especially with Bearer. Portland, Bruise Brothers are quickly becoming title contenders. Furnas beats Bull in one hard hitting match. Always watch out for guys carrying sledgehammers. The Big Cat has been racking up wins. In a way only Rose can do, he gets his win back over Owen. The LHW division continues its red hot momentum. Hall shows Backlund his title win was no fluke. Eugene, Cyrus is making things happen. Could this be the start of a verbal war between RPG and Cornette? I really hope so. Poor Blackman. Billy Jack vs. The Anvil! Bring on more! Payne puts a stop to the Bulldozer. I'm enjoying Coast to Coast's reign. Hart retains against solid contender Cuban Assassin. Only a week into the year and PCW is tearing it up!
  15. WCW is going to change the wrestling landscape in 88!
  16. Rule number one, don't mess with Poffo! Big Dink's out! That's a stacked card! Looking forward to watching all these pieces fall into place. What happened to Sweet Brown Sugar? Something's up. Both Hansen and Simmons are coming in! This is huge! Florida's quickly becoming a hot spot.
  17. AWA Dirt Sheet Report Times are changing! Jerry Jarrett has parted ways with Verne Gagne and the AWA. Apparently, this had been in the works for a couple months, but Jarrett didn't want this to be a distraction before SuperClash. Him and Verne agreed to make it public after the event. However, there's more! Departing with Jarrett will be Lance Russell and Jerry 'The King' Lawler! Verne was prepared for Jarrett and Russell but was quite surprised by Lawler. Lawler did warn Verne in advance that he was seriously thinking about leaving. Verne thought Lawler would stay after promising him a headlining feud with Chris Adams. They even set this up at SuperClash. The next day Lawler informed Verne that he was leaving. Verne was disappointed and thought a Lawler/Adams feud would be big money. In the end, they parted with a handshake. Jarrett and Lawler are keeping future plans under wraps, so we'll all have to wait and see what's next. As for the AWA, Verne still wants to remain behind the scenes and is thinking about bringing in an authority figure for TV. It's been known that Verne can be stuck in his old ways but seeing the money roll in this past year, he's been more accepting of new and fresh ideas. Proof of this was the recent signing of the Ultimate Warrior. Rumor has it, the AWA thinks he will bring in an entire new generation of fans, which means Verne will be happy with the revenue. The AWA knows that losing Lawler hurts (hurts a lot) but has vowed to bring in established International stars as well as new talent. The wrestling world is changing, and the AWA wants to keep up.
  18. AWA releases Spike Huber and Dale Veasey AWA picks up Giant Haystacks and Chicky Starr. Thanks Kev, for all your hard work keeping up with all this.
  19. PCW is back with a vengeance! Morton has found a good partner in Lynn. Damn! Albright debuts in dominating fashion! Love the Force of July! Expecting big things from them. Brigade rebuilds with the addition of Rhodes and Perez. Great fits. Sin City Superstars have a rock'n look and back it up in the ring. Cyrus makes his presence known right off the bat. Pretty cool vibes. No way the Holly's would lose after coming out to 'Suspicious Minds' Brian Lee is going to bulldozer the competition. WOW! Hall returns and immediately takes Backlund down for the title! Yea, he's over. PCW's version of the Bruise Brothers debut with a brutalizing win. Looking forward to watching Christopher develop here. Vampires and Bearer, a perfect combo. Cheetah Kid adds even more excitement to the LHW division. Bock equals class. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed his final run here. You did him right. You're going to get a classic with Hennig and Hart, no matter what. Hennig's reign is going to be magic. Great speech by the now known Bull Pain. I always had a soft spot for the Destruction Crew. Glad they get to develop here. Candido and Spicoli. Those are some great names. They're meant for each other. Vancouver, Young Dustin is on his way. Albright's legit! Beating Jack is a great confidence booster for Perez. I'm sure Al's happy for him. Owen upsets the Playboy. With times changing in PCW, I'm really curious on how Rose will adapt. The Diamond Exchange send a strong message to other factions. When things get out of control, the Wild Things have the advantage. Ok, I'm all in on a Brigade/NOE program! Kelowna, Cheetah and Cyrus kick things off with a banger. Awesome finish by Anvil. Southern Boys show the Hollys how the tag competition is here in PCW. Bull brings Christopher the pain. My man St. Clair pulls it out against the always tough Cuban Assassin. Nothing like an exciting tag match to end the night. Coast to Coast and the Midnights deliver. 1988 is going to be electric!
  20. Koko regains his spot as king of openers. Orton and Slater are still bad dudes. Casey's run here has been amazing as he once again retains his street fight title. Kamala and Spivey put on an old school brawl. Road Warriors had one heck of a week! Steamboat and Reed give the fans their money's worth and, in the end, Steamboat's wearing gold again. Of course, RnR and the Rockers steal the show with another classic. Rockers pull out the huge win, but RnR get the post match consolation. Damn! Savage really puts the final touches on Jimmy Jam. These guys had some great chemistry. Bam Bam's stock just sky rocketed. Not only did Harley put him over big time, but that moonsault off the cage is a highlight that will be seen for years to come. Awesome show brother! BTW, loved the photos! Sorry about your loss. Best wishes for your Mom and a speedy recovery.
  21. Rip Morgan is now with the NWA. I believe the AWA roster is up to date.
  22. spaldoni replied to kevinmcfl's topic in Dawn of War
It's been a great ride! Looking forward to 88. Happy New Year!
  23. spaldoni replied to kevinmcfl's topic in Dawn of War
AWA puts Dave Taylor, Tatsumi Fujinami and Snowman on the block.
  24. AWA releases Carl Fergie, George Wells, Bruce Hart, Phil Hickerson, Jesse Barr, and Curtis Iaukea
  25. The Freebirds leaving is the end of an era in Mid South. Reading their history here reminded me of how much they accomplished and all the high profile angles they were involved in. Looks like Hot Stuff Inc. is looking to take their spot. I'm sure Missy and Eddie will have a lot to say about this.
