[1990-02-11-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels
I like the tags team workers in a singles match dynamic. Pretty even back and forth match. I'm not too familiar with the teams here, I know The Rockers are faces and I think the Hart Coundation was as well? I thought Jannetty was going to heel it up with the ref but it just broke down instead. I enjoyed this a good deal actually, neat piece of history.

[1990-02-17-NWA-Worldwide] Midnight Express vs Brian Pillman & Tom Zenk
The Z Man with Cornette in a sleeper is an absolute dream come true. Startling to see so little offense from the Midnights here, I don't care for that at all. I thought we were going to get the MX taking over after the rackett stuff which would have been cool to see a real even match like that, but it never came. That's too bad, I think that would have really done it for me.

[1990-02-12-FMW-Battle Brave] Atsushi Onita vs Masanobu Kurisu (Barbed Wire)
The count out teases while Onita is in the barbed wire are excruciating because he's obviously moving very slowly to avoid gettin hurt, but he's got to move faster to beat the count, so thats really well done I thought. The finish is pretty unexpected with it not ending in a count out in the barbed wire, but that's cool, I was caught off guard but I enjoyed it.

My Evolution as a Wrestling Fan
Really cool post. It's always interesting to hear, like your and Chad's stories, the emotional attachment and importance wrestling has in people's lives.

[1996-12-02-WCW-Nitro] NWO take over announce booth
I just watched this, but I can't remember if this is one where the NWO is doing commentary for a Benoit vs Regal match and thy out both guys over pretty strong. Then Regal busts his head open hard way on a headbutt and they have to shoot the rest of the match from the hardcam pulled back. Regal bleeds a ton. It's very bizarre.

[1996-12-29-WCW-Starrcade '96] Ultimo Dragon vs Dean Malenko
Malenko's tone-deafness generally doesn't bother me, and actually adds to some of his matches for me, but this is one where it really kills the momentum in a bad way. I thought he sold pretty well in the match, and showed some rare fire towards the end which was great, but what killed it for me was after he'd hit a big move there was a lot of downtime where he'd just walk around expressionless. Again, I like that a lot of the time, but I think with the crowd wanting to cheer for him so bad, that's where the hang up was.

Most Hated Successful Wrestlers
Would Muta be considered too polarizing? Kind of an interesting case because peoples negative opinions of him are based more on his choice to use his abilities, rather than his lack of ability.

[1990-02-10-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Rick Martel
Rick Martel was such an underrated babyface. Underrated wrestler really, but he's a great heel here. I'm actually pretty unfamiliar with The Model character, but this is awesome. I hate is when commentators talk during promos, it never seems to add anything to the promo. I thought Vince was really annoying here. I've never worn cologne before, do people just spray it in the air and let it fall on them like that?

[1990-02-10-NWA-Worldwide] Midnight Express vs Rock & Roll Express
Yes, this is why I got the set. I had never seen this one before but knew the match existed because of the US tag tournament. For the life of me, I can't remember ever hearing Crispy on commentary before. 1990 was a great year for the Midnights, and for the NWA tag scene as a whole. Lots of great matches and one last run for both of these teams. Cornette "oozes into the picture like a rancid piece of meat."

[1990-02-10-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler Loves Wrestling Fans
Another stroll around the studio! The person he says set sex back 100 years may or may not have been a child. "Hey Dave where do you get these people?" is such a great line.

[1990-02-10-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Robert Fuller & Brian Lee
I'm going to go ahead and assume Robert Fuller made Lee hold his mic for him while he goes off. Fuller looks out of his element in a fancy robe, no cigar, and no bolo tie. Cool fired up promo though, Fuller is very good.

[1990-02-10-NJPW vs AJPW] Genichiro Tenryu & Tiger Mask vs Riki Choshu & George Takano
So how about George Takano huh? What's very cool about this match is on the surface, this is just a big bomber of an exhibition with guys trading big shots. And it is, but then you realize that Takano is in there with some of the best in the world and he's outmatched. So he goes for everything possible. And arguably, it costs his team the match. He goes for a spinning heel kick in the corner, misses and hurts himself as he goes to the outside, then get's chopped down to hell by Tenryu. I'm reaching a bit, but still, that's what made the match for me.

[1990-02-10-NJPW vs AJPW] Big Van Vader vs Stan Hansen
I can't remember if this was the first Stan Hansen match I saw, or the 2/28/93 Kawada match. Either way, Hansen's most famous match from a casual fan's perspective. When they fought in AWA, he was Leon "The Baby Bull" White, and now baby has grown up. Vader talks about how the start of all this was Hansen swinging his bull rope at him and knocking him in the head, which made Vader mad and that's what the opening exchange was about. Well, that doesn't happen here. Maybe it happens in the June match, but I've seen that several times and I've watched for that specifically. Oh well, this is a perfect foreigner spectacle for this show, and by the way, this 2/10 show is turning out to be a whopper. After Hansen hits the lariat and they go outside for the count out, you can feel the intensity heighten even more, and like this release. Hansen doesn't talk much about this in his book, but it's very interesting that he would allow Vader to take his lariat like that. Makes sense as he was the IWGP champion and this was essentially an exhibition, but still, Hansen was very protective of his finisher.

[1990-02-03-USWA-Championship Sports] Steve Austin vs Chris Adams feud recap
When Austin first starts talking it sounds nothing like him, but you can sometimes hear traces of his voice peaking through, it's very cool. Really glad this is on here since I've never seen any of this. I'm excited to watch the whole feud and I'm really excited to see a one on one match with these two.
