[1990-02-03-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Clash of the Champions X: Texas Shoot Out Commercial
Really cheesy but surprisingly good production, especially for this era. Maybe they had a TBS person involved with this.

[1990-02-06-NWA-Clash of the Champions X] "Cactus Jack is dead!"
The thing about Cactus's gnarly bumps during this run is that they only mean something in retrospect. None of his bumps get much of a reaction and they don't mean anything anyway. I don't really blame Foley for doing this stuff, I get the mindset, it just doesn't work in the context of his matches.

[1990-02-09-NWA-Power Hour] Funk's Grill: Jim Cornette
RIP Funk's Grill. I knew it wasn't long for this world but it's still sad to see it go. Really awesome Cornette material where he immediately starts picking on Funk.

[1990-02-06-NWA-Clash of the Champions X] Least Shocking Unmasking Ever
I loved the gimmick of Doom being masked and everyone knows who it is. It's so funny to see them walking to the ring with these ill-fitting masks, barely even trying to hide their identities. It's like a Bugs Bunny cartoon or something almost. Too bad it ended here. Clash 10 is an awful show.

[1990-02-10-USWA-Championship Sports] Kerry Von Erich and Gorky Park
I remember the novel Gorky Park because my father was reading when I was little and explained to me that it was about a murder in Russia, which frightened me to no end. This segment really came out of nowhere for me, and really didn't make any sense. Kerry telling Gorky Park to "kick the tail of rock n roll in America" or whatever he said was something else.

[1990-02-03-USWA-Memphis TV] Dr Lawler
Man..... Jerry Lawler in scrubs with urine, dropping a really deviant line about ladies getting excited for a taste test or something. The machine he uses is so funny too, just that stupid chirping noise when steroids are present in the urine. This is too much.

[1990-02-06-NWA-Clash of the Champions X] Ric Flair & Arn & Ole Anderson vs Great Muta & Buzz Sawyer & Dragon Master (Cage)
Between the earlier angle and the match, this is potentially one of the most damaging shows in WCW history. At least up until Starrcade '97. The match has such a weird dynamic since the Horsemen turned earlier in the night, forcing everyone to cheer J-Tex at first, then give up and cheer for Sting. What's impressive here is that everyone works hard, especially Sawyer and Anderson, considering how meaningless the match is to the larger angle. What's disappointing is that Sawyer's big splash has really been put over as a devastating move and here he goes for it off the top of the cage, which should be a huge moment but it's totally overshadowed by everything else.

[1990-02-03-WWF-Superstars] Jake Roberts vs Ted DiBiase
Jake's psychology is always so sound. Just go for the DDT and hit and it quick, because it'll end the match. Great teases here, and then we get a Boss Man face turn! I really enjoyed everyone just kind of wandering into a Brother Love segment. Thankfully, I'm saved from having to see Damien.

[1990-02-09-UWF-with '90 2nd] Akira Maeda vs Yoshiaki Fujiwara
A continuation of their 87 NJ feud. The diving headbutt out of the leglock thing was so brutal and awesome. I like this style in general and I enjoy the Takada's and the Anjoh's, but what really makes it work is when a legit shooter is in there making everything really believable and natural feeling. I love the tempo and pacing of these matches where it'll be really slow, then a stiff strike, then back to the mat, then someone gets a submission hold and the crowd pops, etc. The finish was really well done and what a great shot of Fujiwara passing out while trying to hold on to the ankle lock and bleeding from the mouth. Probably the best UWF match on the set so far.

[1990-02-10-NJPW vs AJPW] Larry Zbyszko vs Masa Saito
I lost it after Zybysko's low blow, great, great timing. This is right up my alley. A midcard match with solid mat work, some heavy slams, and some striking. Saito looks like the man here, and finally is able to put Zybysko down after a total of 3 backdrop suplexes. Zybysko was really good here, and knew his role well and took a lot of offense and looked great doing it.

[1990-02-02-USWA Texas] Jerry Lawler & Billy Joe Travis vs Jeff Jarrett & Bill Dundee
I may have asked this in another thread and may have gotten an answer I forgot, but what's the relationship between Terrance Garvin and Jimmy Jam? They seem to be cut from the same awful cloth. I'm in such a honeymoon phase with Billy Joe Travis that anything he is involved in I like. The chain thing didn't work for me since it was a pretty weak chain to begin with and didn't seem any more harmful than choking someone with your hands, but who cares. Also, anytime someone cuts a promo during a match, it's a winner.
