I enjoy Murdoch, Adonis and Bad News causing havoc. Were the Americans in Japan mostly heels in Japan as the Japanese wrestlers were in the U.S.?

UNIVERSAL WRESTLING FEDERATION (UWF)
MID-SOUTH WRESTLING: 4/14/1985: WTBS 9:05-10:05 SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA Hello again everybody. Welcome to UWF & Mid-South Wrestling from Shreveport, Louisiana and the Irish McNeil’s Boys Club here on WTBS. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd. Jim Ross: Before we get to our first bout we just got to take a look at the video tape and see the main event from Lake Front Arena in New Orleans from this past week. VIDEO MATCH TOURNAMENT TO BECOME THE FIRST EVER UWF UNIFIED WORLD CHAMP DUSTY RHODES VS HACKSAW BUTCH REED The video starts with Dusty trapped in the huge arms of Reed in a massive Bearhug. Rhodes refuses to submit and Reed gets frustrated and throws the Dream to the ground. It is here that we see the strength of Reed has no bounds. Reed hoists the Dream up into a Gorilla Press Slam and goes for the cover. Somehow the Dream gets a foot on the ropes at the count of two. The Dream begins his come back here and just brushes off some Reed haymakers until he just goes wild. Rhodes follows up a Bionic Elbow with a Piledriver and appears on the verge of victory when the rest of Akbar’s goons hit the ring. Patera and Blackwell pummel Rhodes but the Dream does get the victory and moves on in the tournament. When we come out of the tape we see the Dream at the interview desk where he goes on for a minute or two about getting revenge on Akbar but then he refocuses himself about the UWF Tournament where he knows that one of the other contestants will be Jerry “The King” Lawler. This is what really sets him off as he has no respect for Lawler or his style. As Rhodes leaves the desk, both Ross and Ladd hype up the David VonErich Memorial Parade of Champions on May 4th in Dallas. Ross is concerned that Rhodes might underestimate Jerry Lawler as he reminds us that Lawler will do anything to when. ------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS----------------- Ted Dibiase is at the interview desk and he is dressed to the nines in a Tuxedo and Jim Ross wants to know what is up. Ted Dibiase: I know these people is Shreveport are nothing more than pig farmers so I thought I would bring a little class to the show today. I also wanted to show these people what a real champion should look like. They sit there week in and week out and cheer for that dirty, bandana wearing, long haired hippie by the name of Jim Duggan. Just because he smells like you, don’t mean you should support him. I mean if his mommy raised him right, we would not have to put up with his disgusting ways. Well in just a few short weeks in Dallas at the David VonErich Memorial, I am going to beat Hacksaw Duggan and become a North American Champion you can be proud of. Jim Ross: Well I don’t know about that but what I do know is that it is time to get to the ring where the rest of your Rat Pack I am sure will have something up their sleeves. MATCH: THE RAT PACK (Eric Embry and Buddy Landel) REED, PATERA & BLACKWELL) VS BRETT SAWYER, MIKE GRAHAM A pretty even match here that actually saw the Rat Pack begging for mercy in the beginning. Eventually Eric Embry distracts the ref and Buddy Landell hit Mike Graham with a low blow. From there on it was basically over and the victory came when Landell slapped the Figure Four on Graham. As Landell is applying the pressure he is actually calling out the NWA champion Ric Flair as he is confident that he is the only true Nature Boy is the sport. ------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS----------------- MATCH JYD & GEORGE WELLS VS KIWI SHEEPHERDERS (Jonathan Boyd and Rip Morgan) A nasty main event where both teams have the advantage. Unfortunately for the fan favorites, JYD was brawling with Morgan on the outside when Boyd caught Wells with a nasty swinging neck breaker for the win. MATCH CHIRS BENOIT VS STEVE REGAL Regal plays an amazing heel here and Benoit seems to be very frustrated though out the match. Whether it was Regal stalling, playing scarred or refusing to break cleanly, Mr. Electricity did everything right in this match except for one thing. Benoit somehow kicked out a pin attempt after connected with a missile dropkick even though Regal had a hold of the tights. It was almost like a light went on here for Benoit and he decided what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Benoit stopped playing nice guy and really roughed it up here. IN the end, he connected with a high vertical suplex for the win! ------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS----------------- TERRY “BAM BAM” GORDY VS BOBBY JAGGERS Now Jaggers in no slouch but this is a different Gordy. He is all business and takes care of Jaggers in just a few minutes with a piledriver. Gordy heads right to the interview desk where you can tell he is fuming mad about how Dr. Death turned on him against the Sheiks. Gordy says that he is not upset at losing the titles but how could a friend do that. All of a sudden the crowd is murmuring as Dr. Death gets right in the face of Gordy. Dr. Death: Gordy, let’s not be so fast to forget brother. It was just last year I saved your behind from the beating of a lifetime at the hands of the Freebirds. Now I understand why they turned on you. You are nothing but a selfish, lazy waste of time. I carried you for as long as I could and then I just couldn’t take it anymore. If you think that I am going to back down from a challenge from you, you got another thing coming. The two get nose to nose and before all hell breaks loose, the locker room jobbers and officials rush out and try and keep the two monsters away from each other. Both Gordy and Williams break free a couple times and wrestle around on the floor. Jim Ross and Ernie Ladd really hype up this situation and wonder what is going to happen. Jim Ross: So long from Shreveport. Be sure to get out for our next UWF TV taping in Tulsa next week and for those anywhere near New Orleans this week, it is going to be a BIG ONE! SHOW ENDS WITH PROMOS FROM THIS WEEKS BIG CARD BATON ROUGE. _________________________________________________________________________

NWA Lutte Internationale April 1985
I must admit that I find your promotion that hardest to predict and that is a good thing. I do have two questions .... Were the ROck N Roll Express ever big in Canada and if so wouldn't you benefit more by keeping them together. They were so a huge draw together in the Southern U.S. that they could make a bad card good. Also, were you using Bockwinkle vs Robinson in the opener just to get the fans into it or are they towards the bottom of your roster due to age? As always, I truly enjoyes the show and with this project being worldwide it has greatly increased my knowledge of 1985 but also how different wrestling is around the world.

Great use of the video tape here from Brattleboro. I am always interested at seeing where you are going with your tag team division and I am excited that the Sheepherders are linning up as big contenders.

I agree with Edger. Love Spivey in the Varsity Club but when you called out Foley I was confused. Rose vs Bad News also seems like a great angle.

UNITED STATES WRESTLING ASSOCIATION
UWF PRESENTS 4/13/1985: WTBS 9:05-10:05 MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE “Yello again everybody. Welcome to UWF and USWA Wrestling from Memphis, Tennessee and the WMC Studio. I am Lance Russell along with Gary Hart. You saw it folks, Baby Doll saves her man’s title by clobbering Animal with a chair. We will hear from the Road Warriors later on and one thing I know for sure, they are steaming mad! Let’s get to the ring for our first match. Lance Russell: You saw it Gary! The Road Warriors should be the new World Tag Team Champs. Gary Hart: Not sure what you saw but “should be” is a meaningless statement in the world of wrestling. Let’s get to the ring so I can teach you more about this sport as my great tag team whips up on some country fried bumpkins. MATCH THE TENNESSE STUD STABLE VS FATU & THE TONGA KID with GARY HART Lance does bring up the controversy from last week on whether or not Tommy Rich helped Jerry Lawler last week in his match vs Kevin Von Erich. The fans don’t believe that it was on purpose and they are really behind the Stud Stable here in their home state of Tennessee. As for this match, The Tennessee Stud Stable are in their element here. Fatu and Tonga may be big and like to fight but that is right up Wildfire and Hot Stuff’s ally. In the end, The Studs come out on top after Wildfire knocked the big Fatu down with a Lou Thesz Press for the pin. Lance Russell: Hahaha. Maybe one Mr. Gary Hart doesn’t know as much about wrestling as he thought! ------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS----------------- THE ROCK n ROLL EXPRESS VS BOBBY JAGGERS & THE CUBAN ASSASSIN The fan favorites are two for two here tonight and the RnR Express really got the crowd going with their high energy entrance. The end came with their signature Double Drop Kick on the Cuban Assassin. MATCH: RUSHER KIMURA & KENDO NAGASAKI VS BILLY JACK HAYNES & ICEMAN PARSONS A great showcase of good vs evil. In the end, the ref DQ’s Kendo Nagasaki and Kimura after Kendo retrieved his bamboo stick and whacked Iceman. The Japanese wrestlers didn’t seem to care but took full advantage of the odds and attacked the UWF World TV Champ while Iceman was down. Billy Jack put up a good fight but in the end, we see Kimura give his throat slashing sign which he followed up with a Double Arm Suplex. Haynes was basically out already but Kendo held up the champ while Kimura nearly took his head off with a running lariat! ------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS----------------- DINGO WARRIOR with GARY HART VS MIKE Von ERICH Gary Hart really helps bring the heat on the Dingo Warrior. The match starts out with Mike cautiously outwrestling the muscle-bound Warrior. In fact the Warrior is so frustrated he grabs the ropes and starts to shake them. It looked like the whole ring was going to collapse. In the end, Warrior was just too powerful and caught VonErich in a powerslam. With a grab of the tights to ensure victory, Dingo gets the pinfall. Lance Russell: Well folks what else would you expect from a Gary Hart wrestler but a hand full of tights. ------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS----------------- MAIN EVENT: UWF TOURNAMENT MATCH KERRY VON ERICH with Precious VS JERRY “THE KING” LAWLER Lance Russell lets us know that the USWA Title is not at stake in this match and Gary Hart wanted to know what Kerry VonErich was afraid of. This is not so much good vs evil as Memphis vs Dallas! The two icons put on a great show but one thing is for sure, Lawler is getting more love from this Memphis crowd then the usual fan favorite, the Texas Tornado., Kerry VonErich. We have a wild finish here as Kerry catches Lawler with his famous discus punch and then clamps in the Iron Claw. The ref keeps asking Lawler if he submits but Lawler is holding out. All of a sudden the lights go out and we have about 30 seconds of screaming fans. When they come on, we catch a glimpse of dark haired man with a sequence jacket running behind the curtain and Lawler is covering Kerry. The ref makes the three count and it is obvious that Kerry is out. Kevin VonErich runs out to help his brother to his feet and they are both screaming about the shenanigans we just so. Jerry Jarrett comes out and says he is going to get to the bottom of this. He asks the ref what he saw and is basically told nothing because the lights went out. Jarrett says that the lights went out due to a thunder storm in the area and since the ref saw nothing suspicious, we will have to live with the decision. Jerry Lawler will be the USWA representative in the UWF UNIFIED CHAMPIONSHIP BOUT ON MAY 4th AT THE COTTON BOWL! Lance Russell: So long from Memphis, Tennessee.

That is exactly what the retirement list is for. I will put him on the list but note that he is working for MACW. This is what I did with Ernie Ladd and I believe that WWF did with Brisco.

Wow, Nick Bockwinkle seems to be struggling here a bit. Maybe age is catching up to him. He is a mid-carder here and lost to the Spoiler. Might same the same thing here for the Samoans.

Fun show. I wonder how Rude and Rose will get a long after their final showdown! Killer Khan is just wonderful. He always seems to get into the big match where ever he goes.

I used him as Lance in a big feud with the VonErichs. He then turned babyface and lost a loser-leave town match against Akbar's Devastation Inc. on the TV Special, Last Stand in December.

Dirt Sheets
UWF NEWS The recent brand split has met with mixed reviews and once again many are putting the blame squarely on Fritz VonErich. He continues to work to push his boys and a Jerry Jarrett said, "He can't see the forest through the trees." As Watts found out before, Jarrett is quickly coming to realize that Fritz quickly puts down angles that do not help his sons reach the top. This has caused many of the big names in the USWA not to want to travel to Dallas as they know they are just being used to put over the VonErichs. Those said to be most upset include Jerry Lawler, Tommy Rich and Eddie Gilbert. It is rumored that Jarrett would like out of his deal with the USWA but nobody is sure what that means. There are a few options here. Memphis and Dallas could run small promotions and each still be part of the UWF but that would really cut their talent down a few notches. Memphis could leave Fritz all together and join forces with Watts. One could only imagine the matches out of that. Dusty vs Lawler or the Road Warriors vs the Rock n Roll Express could sell out arenas all over the South. Or maybe, just maybe, Jarrett will attempt a coup of some kind where he tries to secure all the power in the USWA. This sounds daring as it could mean he looses everything. One thing to consider if he ever won that power struggle is what would happen to the VonErichs?

The Sinister Six vs The Cobra Corps will bring months of excitement to the AWA. I really like the pairings here. Large stables just give you so many options.
