From what I've read, the fake reports said he was GRANTED his release. I have read other things like "He requested his release and was denied", but haven't read strong sources confirming it. There was this PWInsider report with some more insight on the matter. What is true, or, at the very least, easy to verify, is there is discontent - not necessarily with AEW, something more private.

Word is Malakai requested his release - AEW didn't confirm or deny that. His tumblr seems to indicate he is quite unhappy with *something*.

Very athletic, some very impressive flips, dives and acrobactics. All that is good. However, it feels like that without the proper partner, his matches are all style, no substance. We saw, in a span of like three weeks, Dax and Orange Cassidy work circles around him. I just really don't like how he uses all his tools or carries himself. Feels like a bit of a waste.

I think the whole point is that, while not wrong at all - TR is not a bigger draw than CM Punk - saying that out loud, openly, is not a good HR move. He's just not very good at that and I think he should delegate those interviews to someone who is able to sugarcoat certain stuff. Or just stop with them altogether. Saying Swole was a bad wrestler on Twitter, saying TR is not a big draw... not things your boss should be putting in front of everyone.
