  1. October 31st 1997 Cookeville Community Center, Cookeville Tennessee. HALLOWEEN SCREAM Smoky Mountain Tag Title Tournament Semifinals The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Saggs) defeat The Tennessee Volunteers (Reno Riggins & Steve Dunn) after a distraction from The Public Enemy. Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) defeat The Heavenly Bodies (Jimmy Del Rey & Bobby Eaton) w/Woman when Morton caught Del Rey with a victory roll. Steve Mongo McMichael & "The Outlaw" Kendall Windham brawl to a double countout. Terry Bam Bam Gordy defeats Killer Kyle with a Powerbomb. Smoky Mountain Tag Title Tournament Finals Rock n Roll Express defeat The Nasty Boys with stereo sunset flips. The Nasty's were fuming afterwards but Father James Mitchell came down and after a brief discussion the three men left together. Main Event. Smoky Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Title. Earthquake w/Woman defeats "Hacksaw Jim Duggan after a ref bump allowed Woman to pass Earthquake Duggan's 2x4 and the challenger was ko'd with his own weapon.
  2. That sends it back to me so SMW takes TJP.
  3. Huber looks to get back in the groove. Vinergy steals one from the Warriors. Larry can already taste that new gold. You're really going all in on Sawyer's Mad Dog gimmick and I'm here for it. The All-Stars aren't walking away from this war. The Fantastics fight off the Rose Cousins. Stevens' men put a hurting on Nikita ahead of the No Holds Barred event. What's Debeers angle in all this?
  4. NWA adds Ice Train.
  5. Cool idea using the Wrestling Observer to add some flavor to things.
  6. Johnson looks strong even though his UWF debut ends in defeat. Backlund makes Vader look like a killer. Looking forward to Karelin take on Onita in the next round.
  7. Love the four way match with the horror characters. Goto is on a rampage as Papa-san ratchets up the hostilities with Russell. Rogers finally finds himself a lady. And not just any lady but the Mistress of the night! Another week, another dirty DWB defense. Brad may have won but what's important is Dutch got Shook Baby back. Hart got the First Family DQ'd but Keirn ain't looking like a winner. First Roberts turns on his brothers and now Golden turns on his cousin? Family loyalty don't mean shit in Memphis! Jimmy wasn't ready for Freddy!
  8. I don't think the TV title is leaving Benoit anytime soon. The Road Warriors aren't taking their loss to the "rookies" well. Doink's Carnival makes a successful in-ring debut. The NWO isn't overlooking Owen taking the US title. Goldberg runs over the Roadblock. Loved seeing Dusty hyping up Battlebowl, his one of his lesser known creations, like a proud dad. Dustin has had enough and challenges Triple H to a Bunkhouse Brawl. Uncle Eddie isn't pleased with Chavo's defeats to Rey. Maybe joining the Hart Foundation could be the boost Jericho needs. Ric dedicating his performance in Battlebowl to Arn will make a great story for the event. Sting declares his entry to Battlebowl. I'll be honest I'm a little torn. Sure it's the only real way he can take the title off Hogan at Starrcade. But part of the reason that match was so special irl is that it was Sting's first match in over a year. That won't be the case here, well it'll be his first singles match in that time but still.
  9. 21st. Austin ain't backing down from the Nation. Finlay once again debuts by randomly jumping Regal. Bradshaw & Farooq is heating up. Vego has brought some friends. Nash & co continue to disrupt the show. The Outlaws might think twice about running away when the titles are on the line. Jack slays the giant to claim his title shot. 28th. I don't blame the Outlaws for not wanting to get close to the FoF than they have too. The Rock is looking like the man right now. Well the Boricuas didn't last long. The Wolfpac declare their through with everybody! Regal is quite the fishing champion....until Finlay shows up. What an ending! Bradshaw goes from trying to beat Farooq's ass to saving it and Austin driving off with the Rock would've had everyone talking.
  10. A load of chaos at ringside allows Roberts to slither away with the victory. Funk may have gotten the pin but Muta was the one to shine. The Enforcers are gonna have to come up with a answer to Zeus and fast. Ray wasn't at 100% and it results in the Steiner's getting the US tag titles back.
  11. "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez wins the "Trick or Treat" battle royal. Many of the participants arrived in full costume including two men in yellow masks calling themselves the Super Assassins and the so-called Halloween Phantom. The three mystery men surprised many with their performance with the Phantom actually making it to the final two before being eliminated by Fernandez. *We go backstage where the wheel is spun to determine the stipulation for Scorpio/Poffo later in the night. It goes round n round until it lands on.... STRETCHER MATCH* NWA World Six Man Tag Team Titles. The Paul Jones Army Super Destroyer, Perry Saturn John Kronus) defeat "Exotic" Adrian Street, Jaime Dundee & "British Magician" Steve Wright(c) w/Ms Linda when a pier-six brawl allowed Super D to load up the mask and deliver the headbutt to Dundee. NEW CHAMPIONS!!! Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal Stretcher Match. Too Cold Scorpio defeats "Leaping" Lanny Poffo. Amazing spot at the finish where Scorpio gets Poffo on the stretcher, positions it just right, climbs to the top rope and delivers a 450 splash to Poffo on the stretcher! Scorpio is feeling the effects but manages to power through to push the stretcher across the finish line. NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title. "Wrestling Royalty" Brian Christopher(c) w/"The Perfect 10" Baby Doll defeats "Sweet Music Man" Billy Joe Travis when Baby Doll distracted the ref allowing Christopher to hit Travis with his own guitar. NWA World Tag Team Titles. The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal)(c) defeat The Samoan Island Tribe (Alofa & Fatu) with the "Doomsday Device" on Fatu. The Road Warriors are posing with the titles, taking in the adulation of the crowd when the Super Assassins storm the ring with steel chairs. They catch the Road Warriors off guard and go to town with their weapons. As the champions lay in a heap, the Super Assassins take off their masks to reveal.... 1989 Starrcade Series Finals. "The Doctor of Desire" Tom Prichard defeats "Handsome" Harley Race w/JJ Dillon. Dillon threw his shoe to Race but the legend seemingly felt he had things well in hand and returned it without using it. This sparked an argument between manager and client and by the time Race broke off, Prichard had recovered enough to score the Superkick. As Prichard is getting his hand raised, Race and Dillon resume their argument with Race looking particularly incensed. The two even start shoving each other causing the rest of the Horsemen to run down and get between them. Ole & Orton walk their teammates to the back (making sure to position themselves between the bickering duo) while Landel decides to stay behind. The World champion climbs into the ring and a staredown ensues. Before either can make a move, the Halloween Phantom comes down and joins them to the confusion of everyone in the building. That confusion gives way to shock -none more so than Landel- when the Phantom removes his mask to reveal....
  12. Victoria. Azul; with a nice warm up. Savage finally drops the hammer and it hits hard. Only one out of the four will be left when the feud between the Superstars & the Stormfront. And he got Rose to sign off on it. Factor in the distinct lasck of help in Starr or Riggins' singles matches, they might have to come up with something drastic. The Express overcome the Blondes' tricks. Gordy continues to roll. Hart calling off the LLT stip for the cage match with Austin surprised me almost as much as it did him. Vancouver. Windham, The Southern Boys & Williams all claim solid wins. I'd be interested to know what's up with Beetlejuice lately. Pillman & Adams provide the highlights for a six man tag. The Collective gets one up on the Dragon. Kelowna. Busick not having time for Cornette's bs continues to delight. Jack & Atlas get nuts. The Superstars just can't catch a break. Iron & Steel ruin Condrey's title match. Dean & Eddie continue to shine. Stormfront do a better job of holding together but it's not enough to take the titles off the Midnights.
  13. Don't change that channel all that flippin' around! You're about to see the hottest show in town. The biggest stars and the biggest brawls, the biggest hits and the biggest falls. Non stop action no messin' around, pretty soon we're comin' to your town. The way you like it, the way it used to be...Smoky Mountain Wrestling's on TV! You are watching professional wrestling on Knoxville's WEEE-LP, UPN Channel 32! Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV. From the WEEE-LP studio in Knoxville Tennessee. Airdate: 10/18/97 *Opening video of SMW action set to Into the fire by Dokken* Caudle & Cornette welcome fans to another exciting episode of SMW action. We've got the final two first round matches in the tournament to crown new Smoky Mountain Wrestling Tag Team Champions as well as a face to face meeting between Smoky Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Earthquake and the man who will challenge him for that title at Halloween Scream, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. We'll also hear from Terry Gordy ahead of his SMW return. All that and more on today's episode now let's head to the ring! Match #1. Smoky Mountain Wrestling Tag Team Title Tournament. The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Saggs) defeat Wildside (Chris Champion & Mark Starr) after taking Starr on a "Trip to Nastyville" (Knobbs powerslam followed by a diving elbow by Saggs.) Cornette is at the booth speaking as the owner of SMW. He says he's been hard at work to take SMW to the next level and that work has paid off, next week he'll have an announcement that is not only without precedent in the history of Smoky Mountain Wrestling but will change the landscape of professional wrestling as it is today. Match #2 Ice Train defeats The Terrorist with the "Train Wreck" (running splash). VTR- Terry Gordy is standing in front of a SMW banner. He says he's coming back to SMW because it's the last bastion of real professional wrestling. Says he doesn't have to deal with everyone showing their ass in Stanford or the non-stop politicking in Atlanta and he doesn't even know what the hell's going on in Philadelphia. Says whoever walks out of Halloween Scream with the Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Title had best get ready cause he's coming for it and ain't nothing stopping him. Match #3 "The Outlaw" Kendall Windham defeats George South with the "Powerbomb O' Doom" (slingshot Powerbomb). He continues to beat on South after the bell until Steve McMichael runs down and we get a tense staredown that security prevents from escalating. Champion and challenger square off at the podium. Woman speaks for her client and says Duggan is just a over hyped goof who owes his entire career to his "good buddy Terry who let him ride his coattails in two different companies." Says there's nobody to save Duggan now and he'll meet the fate of everyone who tries to take the Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Title off her monster, he'll get crushed! Duggan isn't intimated and says he knows firsthand how powerful the Earthquake is but he also knows the "big lug" doesn't have the brains to make it on his own which is why he needs someone else to do his thinking for him whether it's that "motormouth from the south, that wack job who thinks he's Satan and now this bimbo who can't come up for a better name for herself than Woman." Things are getting tense but security keeps everyone apart to preserve the big show's main event. Main Event. Smoky Mountain Tag Team Title Tournament. The Tennessee Volunteers (Reno Riggins & Steve Dunn) defeat The Public Enemy (Rocco Roc & Johnny Grunge) when Riggins got the knees up to block a Roc moonsault and rolled him over for the surprise pin! The Volz celebrate with the crowd while Public Enemy are seething in the ring. As the show ends we get the full card for Halloween Scream. Main Event. Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Championship. Earthquake(c) w/Woman vs "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan Finals of the tag title tournament. Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy vs Killer Kyle Steve"Mongo" McMichael vs "The Outlaw" Kendall Windham Smoky Mountain Tag Title Tournament Semifinals. The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) vs The Heavenly Bodies (Jimmy Del Rey & Bobby Eaton) w/Woman The Tennessee Volunteers (Reno Riggins & Steve Dunn) vs The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Saggs)
  14. Idol & Hogan exchange harsh words before they head to Alaska. The Rose's are ready for gold. Konnan impresses in his debut. Union Jacks with an unjustified assault. Burke is first up for Taylor. Doll paid dearly for his actions in Wargames. Colon is tuned up and ready for St Clair. I'm sure Disalvo got a big pop off that supplies to Soultaker. Debeers approves of the mean streak Stevens has put in Jumbo & Fujinami. Larry Z cheats his way to a TV Title shot.
  15. So excited to have RINGS back!
  16. Rogers is a surefire heat getter. I am weirdly hyped for a Russell/Tojo feud. I feel like Embry has mostly been a heel in the game but I've seen him in World Class so I know he's got what it takes to be a face. Los Guerreros with a successful debut. Call the cops, Brad just kidnapped Shoo Baby! The DWB's loaded forearm strikes again. Smart of Jeff & Keirn to bring in the Texas Tornado to take on the First Family. Things got heated between Hayes and Roberts real quick. Gee I wonder who that masked man was?
  17. Halloween Havoc starts with a shocker as Edge & Christian score the biggest win of their careers. Benoit brings more gold to the Horsemen. Rey wins the cruiserweight title in an absolute show stealer. Some things just shouldn't be changed. I see the tag title match underwent some restructuring. Oh well, card subject to change after all. Though it does make me think, the breakdown said that Mortis was aligned with Jake Roberts. If that's still the case then that makes Hugh Morris and Doink the Clown are members of the NWO by default which is just hilarious to me. Speaking of Jake, he helps Trips to a big win. Malenko keeps the Horsemen's good fortune going. Loved Jericho's tantrum. Two straight wins make it a perfect night for the Hart Foundation. Luger shocks the world by screwing DDP and joining the NWO. Not sure if this will help him get that world title shot but it makes a great show ending visual.
  18. I liked Slick's arc through this episode. From him caring enough to send Hugh's off in the ambulance -pretty sure that was police brutality btw- to having Zeus claim vengeance by wrecking both Owen and Neidhart. You're really making Zeus look like a beast. Gary Hart, Jake Roberts & Mr Fuji working together? Everyone in the WWF should be worried right now. Warrior beats the Barbarian while Andre busts Rude open.
  19. Gordy wins the battle royal and is poised to restart his long dormant rivalry with Steamboat. Lee has pretty much checked out of the Brigade. A clever trick by Pillman leads to victory. The odd couple team of Cactus & Regal pull it out. Stormfront and the Superstars are seriously pushing it. Hashimoto continues to deny Scotty his second title. The Midnights are holding onto their belts by their fingernails. Steamboat snaps and shreds the Jackal. PCW is bringing the cage to San Diego for Austin and Hart. Love it.
  20. 1989 Halloween Havoc Full Card. Main Event. Starrcade Series Finals "The Doctor of Desire" Tom Prichard vs "Handsome" Harley Race w/JJ Dillon NWA World Tag Team Titles The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal)(c) vs The Samoan Island Tribe (Alofa & Fatu) NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title "Wrestling Royalty" Brian Christopher w/"The Perfect 10 Baby Doll vs "Sweet Music Man" Billy Joe Travis Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal Too Cold Scorpio vs "Leaping" Lanny Poffo. NWA World Six Man Tag Titles. Adrian Street, Steve Wright & Jaime Dundee(c) w/Ms Linda vs The Paul Jones Army (Super Destroyer, Perry Saturn & John Kronus) w/"Number One" Paul Jones Trick or Treat Battle Royal. Winner challenges for the United States Title at Starrcade.
  21. Starrcade Series week 10 results. "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez defeats "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant with the "flying burrito". Fernandez was noticably aggressive in this match though he still shook Valiant's hand after the match. "Handsome" Harley Race w/ JJ Dillon defeats "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff w/"Number One" Paul Jones after hitting Koloff with his own chain! "Walking Condominium" King Kong Bundy w Number One Paul Jones defeats "Rugged" Ron Garvin. Garvin went for the desperation move with a sunsetflip from the top rope but Bundy held his ground and sat down on Garvin for the three count. Starrcade Series Leaderboard. Block A 8 pts: Big John Studd & Tom Prichard (block winner) 4 pts: Bob Orton Jr, Dynamite Kid & The Super Destroyer 2 pts: Wahoo McDaniel Block B 8 pts: King Kong Bundy & Harley Race (block winner) 6 pts: Ron Garvin 4 pts: Manny Fernandez 2 pts: Ivan Koloff & Jimmy Valiant
  22. Taylor wasted no time crowing about his new title. Akbar is just as proud of the trick he pulled on Canek. A new feud is born between Vinergy & the Warriors. RnR is coming for the Olympians. Thornton & St Clair are determined to prove that Colon is no wrestler. Mad Dog mauls Huber. GD is officially an All-Star. Brandi sets out to be a fighting champion. Devastation Inc goes down in a wild six man tag. Nikita is ready to stand with Hogan against Steven's men.
  23. Airdate: 10/18/97 *Opening video of SMW action set to Into the fire by Dokken* Caudle & Cornette are at the booth and Caudle welcomes the fans to another exciting week of Smoky Mountain Wrestling. He runs down the card for the today, Tito Santana & Marty Jannety will both be in action... we'll hear from Father James Mitchell...plus in the main event the tag title tournament continues as the Bad Street Boys (Christian York & Joey Matthews) will take on Woman's mystery tag team. Cornette cuts in and says of course it's a mystery to Caudle because Woman wouldn't talk to him if he was sweating champagne. He on the other hand, gets along famously with her and not only does he know who her team are, he'll go on record here and now and declare them the favorites to win the whole tournament. Caudle asks him to share who her team are if he knows but Cornette says he's sworn to secrecy and he's shocked and appalled Caudle would ask to betray the trust of a lady. An exasperated Caudle says it's time for our first match starring a promising young man who's been making waves in the North East territory, "Dangerous" Devon Storm. Match #1 "Dangerous" Devon Storm defeats The Enforcer (Doug Gilbert in a mask) with the "Thunderclap" (brainbuster) We see footage from a recent SMW event in Hazard Kentucky where a battle royal was held with the winner challenging Earthquake for the Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Title at Halloween Scream. It's come down to Jim Duggan and Kendall Windham and the two are pounding away at each other before Duggan sends the tall Texan over the top with a mighty clothesline. We cut to Duggan joining Caudle at the booth. He says Earthquake is a big, bad man no doubt but his all American muscle is gonna send him packing back to Canada and make Duggan a two time Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Champion. He tells Earthquake if he's got a problem with that then step up and prove him wrong TOUGH GUY! Match #2 Tito Santana defeats "Bad Dude" Brian Austin with a Figure Four. James Mitchell joins Caudle at the booth. He says last week the Night Terrors failed him for the last time and he cast them back to the darkness they came from. Says the search has begun for his new "harbingers of chaos" who will join him in burning Smoky Mountain Wrestling to the ground. Match #3 "Rockstar" Marty Jannety defeats "Lethal" Larry Santo with the "Rocker Dropper". VTR- we see another highlight of Terry Gordy which makes him look like a beast and announces that he arrives at Halloween Scream! *Commentary point out that due to next week being the final episode of SMW TV before Halloween Scream, next week's episode will have two tag title tournament matches* The Bad Street Boys are working the crowd when Woman walks through the curtain alone. She takes the house mic and says she wants to publicly thank her dear friend Jim Cornette for trusting her to manage the new and improved Heavenly Bodies! She tells the audience to stand up and show some respect to their next Smoky Mountain Wrestling Tag Team Champions "Gigelo" Jimmy Del Rey & "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton! Main event. Tag title tournament match. The Heavenly Bodies (Jimmy Del Rey & Bobby Eaton) w/Woman defeat The Bad Street Boys (Christian York & Joey Matthews) when Eaton pinned York with the "Alabama Jam".
  24. Ahmed Johnson could be big in Japan. Ogama is set to be subject of a serious bidding war.
