Vince also has a hang-up where he'll pay guys to try to no-show or sabotage events, but if a guy voluntarily does it or offers to do it on his own, even if it's for Vince's benefit, he'll refuse to do further business with them. He did it with Cesaro once, and he did it with Brian Lee in 1995. Maybe other times. "If he does it to them, he'll do it to me."

I'm not trying to be one of those smark fans who just can't handle being worked, but I just want to see a fucking wrestling match, guys. I honestly didn't like Juice Robinson's phony "I'm burnt out and quitting" tour followed by the "Psyche!" he pulled for NJPW. As Roger Ebert once wrote about certain "gotcha" movie twists, "I want to be amazed by motivation, not manipulation." I'd honestly rather MJF walk out than have this be a work with a completely incoherent endgame. What is this setting up, MJF vs. Tony Khan in a match? All that said, I don't think it *is* a work at this point.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
He was initially suspended, and had always had discipline problems going back to his "too much, too soon" singles push as a teenager. I don't know the specifics of his 1988 departure but there was definitely something that triggered it. Edit: According to the '88 Observers, Tama quit in solidarity with Sika being let go, as apparently the Anoi'as were very much on the outs with Vince at the time.

The Nash/Hall split was 100% a Hogan power play, nothing more. Any benefit to curb Hall's drinking was purely accidental.

The North-South Connection Podcast Feed w/ JT & Chad
Sting having to leave for rehab/personal issues came at the end of '98, when Bret Hart takes him out at Havoc. This departure was caused by WCW using up all (almost all) of the contracted dates for the year--I'm not sure when Sting signed his contract but it was doubtless before Nitro was a thing, and they didn't anticipate using him as much as they did when they agreed on that limit. The initial plan was only to get through the end of '96 but then it obviously just kept going.

Wrestling in unusual contexts
Creating "buzz" might work for a weekly show (wrestling or otherwise), but I don't know how a live incident that many people wouldn't and didn't see until after the fact is supposed to juice TV ratings. People thought Steve Harvey reading the wrong beauty contestant name was a work too--that was a big story for like a week and by next year's pageant it was forgotten about.

HHH officially announces end of in ring career
Ratings and PPV buys were in the tank when DX was running roughshod over television. It was Tyson and Austin who turned that around, not DX.

AEW TV - Week of 3/16
Just updating Matt Sydal specifically, he dislocated his knee a few weeks back so he's out for a bit (no ligament tears, fortunately).

It would behoove MJF to have Wardlow win the title, though. He still owns his contract and I don't see him just letting him out of it.

AEW TV March 9/11 - Post Revolution
I didn't think it was a great show, but it mostly flew by. Wardlow's promo was a highlight. Britt's was a lowlight--just an absolutely awful reaction to the cage match stip, and a rehash of her promo from a few weeks ago.

As someone who's barely ever watched ROH I figured it out after Excalibur explained it. And I knew Punk was "going back to his roots" going by his promo a few weeks ago where he went back into the "I'm straight edge, which means I'm better than you" bit. If a Luddite like me who abhors hearing, "Well, it makes sense if you watch BTE" can get it, anyone can.

AEW Revolution 2022
Callis showing up on the Buy-In had me thinking otherwise, though. Even his repeated denials that Omega was in the building seemed like a tease of the opposite happening.

There hasn't been an "...is #AllElite" graphic for Redbeard yet so, yeah, it seems like he's only in because they were expecting Fenix to be back and he isn't ready yet.

The All Things Cody Thread
Now Dave has dropped the "plans changed" bomb. Apparently creative was told last night of a "definite change in Cody/WWE status." That's suitably vague as Dave does so well, but apparently on The Board he clarified that as of now, there's uncertainty that he's coming in.

I'm sad this thread didn't get bumped for his Oscar-worthy performance in Money Plane.

Tony Anthony was also a legit plumber.

Austin Aries: The Adventures of an Arrogant Asshole
Tony Khan is clearly deathly afraid of this promotion, hence his re-upping of Brian Cage for another year.

All Elite Wrestling
One of those things that they just didn't know about until they were out of theory and into practice. I believe they made a talking point early on that every decision made would be a unanimous one by all the EVPs--that lasted for about as long as you'd expect. If every decision had to be unanimous, nothing ever would have gotten done.

I know this may as well have been 500 years ago and not 34, but Dave wrote in the 1988 WONs that you shouldn't expect Arn & Tully to be buried or given wacky gimmick makeovers when they jumped to the WWF in 1988, because that would have killed the WWF's chances of grabbing Ric Flair. And as it turned out, other than maybe a wacky gimmick tag name, Arn and Tully were mostly left alone. So I don't really see Cody jobbing to Grayson Waller on NXT--they have to do right by him if they want to get any other major AEW talent to jump.

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
Yeah, I'm just not sure why they shouldn't be classified as such. They set their own hours, provide their own car, and aren't under a written contract.
