Hey, hey, baby steps: let's see if Joey Janela can at least eclipse Shane McMahon when it comes to throwing a damn punch, first.

AEW Dynamite Week 9 - 27 Nov 2019
They said before the match it's going to be an annual event.

Close. It was Dr. Mindbender from the GI Joe cartoon. That was a total misfire.

Well, we'll see what JR is made of--no Schiavone tonight to carry him. I'm assuming Tony is in Hawaii with the Georgia basketball team.

Ted Irvine's a little awkward on the mic but his delivery on, "IT'S GREAT TO BE BACK HERE IN NEW YORK CITY!" killed me.

The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
Russo getting Cornette fired from TNA is what really got the fiery hatred burning in Jim. Cornette says that, past differences aside, they were actually cordial with one another when working in TNA though they tried to avoid actually talking wrestling in order to maintain that. Then Russo goes behind his back and it all went back to shit.

I was I was two seconds away from replying "Like Cornershop!" and then I remembered they're British.

Isn't most of the objectivism stuff just from Peart, anyway? (I'm...about as middle-of-the-pack on Rush as it gets.) Neil Young can undo a lot of Canadian ills. And am I wrong for kind of still liking the Crash Test Dummies?

The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
I think Corgan might be more like the American David Icke but this is admittedly outside my area of expertise.

The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
Yeah, for a company outwardly begging to get a TV deal out of this, shit like that can't fly. One could wonder how in the name of fuck that line could sit in the can for a month and not get edited out before airing, but knowing Corgan's political beliefs and Lagana's too, apparently, they probably really didn't see anything wrong with it. https://twitter.com/KyleNotGuile/status/1196960269114712065

WWE TV 11/18 - 11/24 South American Coupamania
Eric Bischoff did, though, and that was a big part, rightly or wrongly, of what made the Monday Night Wars what they were.

WWE TV 11/11 - 11/17 Dark days indeed
'93 Noo Yawk attitude heel Joey Styles is THE, hands down, worst play-by-play man in wrestling history. Ever. Even if you throw in color guys I actually enjoyed him far less than Rob Bartlett when I was watching the '93 Yearbook, and Bartlett SUUUUCKED. More straight-ahead '94-'97 Joey is better, but still has flaws. I don't think he really "put himself over at the expense of the wrestlers" as Mauro quite rightfully has been accused of. My big issues with him are a.) being the announcer equivalent of a "spot monkey," who thinks that just reciting move names is play-by-play, particularly when he generally didn't have a color analyst with him, and b.) he telegraphed EVERYTHING, it seems like. If Joey declared that the Dudleyz were going to retain the tag titles or that Luna was going to tear apart Beulah or that Cactus Jack was coming in to help Tommy Dreamer, you could guarantee with your life that the exact opposite would happen. I can't tell you how many dramatic moments Joey killed for me (Masato Tanaka kicking out of the 3-D comes to mind immediately) because of that shit. Lots of announcers have done the "IT'S OVER! A NEW CHAMPION TO BE CROWNED!" act before a dramatic kickout, but Joey took it to a new level. I honestly didn't notice any precipitous decline in Joey as ECW fell apart. The product got a lot worse, but for all of his faults Joey never struck me as someone who was ever phoning it in. But that's also without having gone into 2000-early 2001.

The Wednesday Night War
As we learned in week 1--and I'm assuming it's continued though I confess to not having checked--there's less crossover between AEW and WWE audiences than you might think. So WWE might be able to increase the number of their fans who'll tune into NXT, but AEW needs to worry about booking to their own audience, period. Their audience is not only not that likely to flip over to see Roman Reigns, he might make it even less likely that they do.

Wardlow, a Pittsburgh-area indy guy they signed and had a video for I think at Double or Nothing.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
I have absolutely no first-hand knowledge but I think he sort of moved past wrestling for awhile. On the last Wrestling WarZone podcast a couple of weeks ago, Chad mentioned that he was watching AEW and chatting with him on Facebook messenger about it, but hadn't been watching much wrestling before then.

The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
Bought one of those myself a year or so ago (along with a couple of Cornette/Mark James books). Not sorry.

The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
Isn't making a decent living exactly what Cornette's already doing? He's turning down more invites and appearances than he's taking nowadays.

The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
"Triggered" goes back way before the book as a word used by the same types of people who use "SJW," "cuck," and "soy boy" unironically.

Mid-South TV Continuity Question (August 1985)
But my point is the show may have an "8/10" airdate in Tulsa, or OKC, but not necessarily in New Orleans.

Mid-South TV Continuity Question (August 1985)
When Cornette discussed the Last Stampede program, he pointed out that they fucked up the timing of the shows in New Orleans, as the video announcing Stagger Lee as Watts' partner didn't air until the late afternoon the day of the show. So at least in '84, the show aired at around 5 or 6 pm. But they were also still bicycling tapes then--I feel like I've seen it discussed when Mid-South went to unified TV air dates but I can't remember where, and it may have been at KFM which is inaccessible now.

Also in '86 the tour was built around the top stars of Paul Roma and SD Jones.

Or maybe it won't. It would be nice if they just established judges as a thing and set up an angle to use them later.

AEW Dynamite Week 3 - 16 October 2019
I would hope so. I wouldn't want Jungle Jack Perry to be all washed-up at 35 like, say, the Dynamite Adult.

Luchasaurus apparently tore his hamstring earlier today, so he's going to be out for a good while.
