  1. And yet Dynamite had more ring time, playing Face in Peril, in that match than either Santana or DBS.
  2. I'm new to this but I say keep it up. I only listened to about 30 or 40 WTBBP episodes that pre-dated the WWE Network, so footage isn't a pre-requisite. On Between the Sheets they sometimes fall into a trap of assuming we the listener can see the clip that they're playing, so if you just minimize the "Look at [x]" without explaining it stuff, I'm fine whether the card is online or not.
  3. Dave said that if Vince was that against scripted promos, he would have axed it completely instead of this somewhat half-assed measure they're going with.

  5. Rich looks in better shape than he did at almost any other time in the USWA. There's a restraining order on Doug Gilbert for the studio, but not for the New Daisy Theater and Rich promises that he and Gilbert will be there, even if Hales won't sanction a match. Rich tries to force Hales' hand by staging a sitdown strike and lays out Downtown Bruno as well as a security guard, but Peggy convinces him to leave eventually. These segments are better when Doug is involved just because he creates so much chaos just by being there, but this did a good job of advancing the story.
  6. This isn't really Vince's environment, but he's more relaxed here than in a lot of other talk show appearances. Of course--and I love Conan--this isn't exactly like getting grilled by Mike Wallace.
  7. About on par with the Nitro match but with a better crowd. Eddie hasn't missed a beat.
  8. No, I wouldn't call it the greatest match ever or a candidate or anything, but it's certainly a top-5 MOTYC for '99 and one of the best RINGS matches ever. The last flurry is jaw-dropping and the time limit comes completely out of nowhere--doubly amazing for me as shootstyle time limit draws tend to see me looking toward the clock as the match goes on. This time the finish was a disappointment in the best possible way because I wanted this to go on, and on, and on. Tamura's stand-up is incredible as are his body punches when he has Yamamoto down, and Yoshihisa turns in one of the performances of his career as well.
  9. AJ Styles just won the US title at the MSG house show.
  10. Intruder was a shorter and very pudgy guy, with a bit of a different mask design though it was also black and red.
  11. What'd Bruce say about dealing with the 10,000 to 80,000 refunds that would inevitably have to be given out since they moved into a venue with so many fewer seats?
  12. They may have had a shred of intrigue for this match had Tank not challenged David Arquette for the WCW title and lost.
  13. I really don't have a fucking clue what to think of this situation yet. But yeah, that story was at some points enlightening and at other points reeked of the "no angel" crap you see in the media regarding people like David Dao and Eric Garner.
  14. Benoit had enough sense to lie about needing to be home and clearly knew that what he was doing was wrong. I don't think Verne truly realized what he was doing--what happened there was essentially a bad accident.
  15. Head apparently accuses Al Snow of eating a booger. How bad was this Raw that this is the ONLY Yearbook segment??!
  16. I seem to recall Sting's excuse being that he thought they were off the air. Still an incredibly lame thing to piggyback onto.
  17. I guess Eddie's been out of sight, out of mind for too long for the MNW era. Too bad, because the ring work is like he never left. I appreciate his commitment to staying as a heel when he easily (and one maybe could argue should) have been pushed as a sympathetic babyface.
  18. Yeah, the NLS come off as total heels here. Unless the hat said "Rap Is Crap" or something, Hennig is 100% in the right.
  19. "You've got great thumbs." "Thanks, Lenny!" And so it begins. All after a cameraman decided that stumbling upon Lenny picking out trunks was something that just had to be filmed.
  20. Master P and Silkk perform a very lip-syncy version of "Hoody Hooo."
  21. This is a chaotic mess, but the best kind of chaotic mess--a match that was probably even more fun to see live than watching on tape. It's just a bunch of stiff shots and chair-throwing but by the end it actually coalesces into a real match with false finishes and saves and strategy and all that fun stuff. It also features Shoji Nakamaki taking the time to shake the hand of an adolescent fan who helps him throw chairs into the ring, which is worth a * all by itself.
  22. I didn't think much of this, really. I won't say they lack guts but this was basically Itchy & Scratchy wrestling and far from being too gruesome for me to get into, they get me to a point where I just don't care what they do next. A tombstone off the apron through a light-tube board for an immediate 2-count? Pass. The best moment was the big face-off with the kendo sticks and the commentator yelling, "Star Wars!"
  23. BattlArts continues to kill it. At times it feels like a Yone-Ikeda singles match with two junior NPCs, but the action is still terrific as they take us on a roller coaster ride of momentum swings.
  24. Exhibit #2 A week after Terry Taylor loses his Mid-South TV title medallion to Adrian Street after Street passionately kisses him and then rolls him up, Taylor comes out during a Street match and lays one on Miss Linda the same way Magnum does, with less orgasming from the announcers. Except Linda actually does seem to like it or at least not mind it. Street is so incensed that he grabs Linda by the hair and starts smacking her as he drags her back to the locker room. I don't know which is worse but the abuse by Street has always made me really uncomfortable, even moreso than what we now know is sexual assault. It looked like an actual domestic incident which is somehow more disturbing than a babyface giving an evil heel valet a piledriver.
  25. I have nothing against the Dudleys but for Christ's sake enough of the God-level push already.
