And rewatching a ton of ECW with Dylan, a lot of matches actually stand the test of time and are still really good.

Dave on Sayama and watching old footage
We read his essay at DVDVR and it made no impact. It landed at #165. At the very best , it is the 165th best NJ match of the 80s. Most people who aren't blinded by fandom will admit the same thing... Syaama may have been revolutionary but the matches don't stand the test of time. Hey wildpegasus, why don't you repost your review of the match over here and re-establish the greatness of the match?

I think it is also important to point out that we aren't judging these matches by modern standards. We are comparing 80s matches to other 80s matches.

It is not true that they don't hold up because it is junior spot-fu. They don't hold up because they are poorly executed.

[1993-01-16-SMW-TV] Tracy Smothers vs Dirty White Boy vs Killer Kyle vs Jimmy Golden (Elimination)
I want to hear Dylan chime in on your thoughts because he nominated it as a match for the SMW project that should be released this summer.

Favourite Puro tag teams?
One of the thing I am interested in is how Kobashi-Misawa compares with Akiyama-Misawa as a tag team since i know some people have differing opinions on which team is better. Hopefully, the yearbook project will give peep a chance to look at the teams again with fresh eyes.

Favourite Puro tag teams?
Kawada and Taue are a clear #1 in my view. However, I absolutely loved the Fujinami-Kimura team after watching the 80s New Japan set.

Dave Meltzer stuff
Speaking of the college game, what about that male cheerleader running interference the other night to create doubt in the outcome?

Ridiculous quotes from WO.com columnists
He said it sold 5000 copies last year alone.

Serious Greatest of All Time Candidates
Fujinami flaming out after 1989 doesn't necessarily disqualify him from the conversation. From 1980 to 1989 (and at least a few matches from the WAR v NJ era) he was easily one of the best in the world. Should we consider an entire career Or does their fall have to be weighed equally? then Ric Flair is a damaged candidate because he has been sub-par from 1994-2010... 16 years of mediocrity. Personally, i think that is stupid because he had a decade of excellence with tons of footage from 82-92 that says he was every bit as good as advertised. Kawada had a great run but how has the last 5 years dropped his stock? Should the only candidates be guys who died early while still in their prime (Eddy) or shortly removed from it because of injury or illness (Jumbo or Bret) ?

Elimination Chamber
Damn! All Hail King Lawler. With that put aside, big props for Miz bouncing around for Jerry. The execution was what you expect from a 60 year old but I was watching every moment.

Elimination Chamber
Damn, that tag match was nothing. Vickie gets insane heat. Poor, poor Trish.

Elimination Chamber
I enjoyed the SD! Chamber just fine but was distracted by things at home. I loved the Del Rio run-in but LOVED the Christian return. Badass!!! Trish Stratus and the crowd goes ZZzzzz
-
Elimination Chamber
I only saw the last few minutes of the Del Rio vs. Kofi match and the crowd was hot for the finish. Maybe someone else can fill me in on the opening.
