So I'm watching 1989 NWA for the 80's project and on 8/15/89 in Cleveland, Brad got shots at both Flair's NWA World Title and Luger's US Title on the same night.....how many men could say they did that.

All of this......you would have to have someone booking it with no preconceived notions coming in but of course that person would be working under Vince who would veto whatever the fuck he wanted to. I'm not sure Vince was so much the problem, as the people around him who told him what he wanted to hear in order to earn brownie points from the boss. Apparently, Kevin Dunn was in Vince's ear constantly pushing that they needed to keep the WWE brand strong during this time period. Well when I was talking about Vince....Kevin was in my mind.....You don't have one without the other.

Wow this thread has exploded..... I hate the chanting for the sake of chanting that goes on at shows especially the post-Mania shows and the god awful "WE ARE AWESOME" chants that have happened on those shows.....a nuke dropping on the building wouldn't be the worst thing to happen in that situation. When you are going to any sporting event you aren't the show the people you paid to see are the show. As much as I hate dead crowds I'd rather have that than have a bunch of idiots trying to get themselves over. Now if you chant because you are legitimately moved to do so then fine but doing it because you want to be a smartass then get the fuck out

There was no way Vince was going to put WCW as equals to WWE.....sure there were reports they were before the Booker T/Buff debacle but in the end it was never going to happen.

We gotta get Jerry Stubbs on the list because we have lots of nominations of him from Continental & Mid-South.

The history pieces in today's WON were really great especially the Barnett/Australia one. Also Meltz confirmed that he will break his attending Mania rule next year.

Always wondered if All-Japan had scheduled a Champion Carnival for 1983 before cancelling it and it looks like they did and look at the list of guys that was supposed to go over.

Luger's original opponent on that show was Dr. Death.....who basically left the promotion shortly after that.

Yeah but the fact that Dusty even thought about Steiner rather than just booking Luger to win was ridiculous at that time.

I will go out on a very small limb and say that Cody's wife will get the job.

Yeah the sad part about 1988 was that Rick Steiner WAS under consideration to win the title not Luger.... Sting could've come back and still got his title shot where he & Luger went in as faces but Sting beat him and Luger snapping going back heel again.

2002-03 ROH was my favorite because it didn't take itself so GOD DAMN SERIOUSLY like it did when Gabe took over control. RF may have been a pedophile jerk but he at least maintained a fun promotion with some personality.

I was thinking Luger too but not 1988 although he should've won it then....but 1990 when Sting got hurt.....Luger turning face because he as a heel was so disgusted by Flair's tactics that he was going to the win the title in Sting's honor.

Backlund's drawing power was the main reason why he stayed champ for so long it was only when the ownership change took place and when Backlund changed his own look that came into question. As long as you are drawing the promoters back then were going to ride that horse until it broke down.

When Backlund won his title both men were extremely young in the business. Steamer was just starting to catch on in JCP plus you have to take into consideration that the decision was made the year previous for Backlund and at that time Steamer was still working as Richard Blood.

As much as I loved JCP in 1985.....it should have been Mid-South Wrestling that got the TBS timeslot. They would've produced the better show and the potential to come would've been amazing to see.
