[1999-07-17-MPPW-TV] Dirty White Boy & Doug Gilbert & Wolfie D vs J.R. Smooth & Mic Tierney & Glen Kulka
This whole saga might be the best TV of the year. The wild brawl was great and I loved Hales hitting Gilbert with the trash can and Gilbert proving Hales' feelings about him right by slugging him in response. This was a really good episode overall really hyping the matches for the big show.

[1999-07-17-Michinoku Pro] Tiger Mask IV vs Gran Naniwa
I didn't think much of this match either, though the last couple minutes were pretty energetic and good.

[1999-07-13-NJPW-Summer Struggle] Jushin Liger & Great Sasuke vs Shinjiro Otani & Tatsuhito Takaiwa
Really would love to see this in full. If the rest of the match is on par with the excellent opening and home stretch this is a top notch MOTYC.

[1999-07-12-WCW-Nitro] Hulk Hogan vs Randy Savage
So they're finally going to do the Nash/Hogan match for real. It still feels like a big match although a lot of the intrigue has worn off thanks to all the shit that's happened. The crowd doesn't seem as into as you'd hope they'd be. I think it could still be salvaged as a really big feeling match with the right booking but I'm sure that's not going to happen.

[1999-07-12-WCW-Nitro] Sting vs David Flair
Bischoff is unbearable on commentary. Crowd going nuts for Sting taking everyone out was fun at least.

[1999-07-05-WWF-Raw] Interview: The Rock
At this point Rock really feels like the next level super star babyface he became. Really great promo and it's fun watching this stuff from when I first started getting into wrestling and remembering it.

[1999-07-05-WCW-Nitro] Kevin Nash vs Sid
Savage assaulting Torrie and George backstage is just an exclamation point on how shitty this fued has been. So bad.

[1999-07-05-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair, David Flair and Buff Bagwell
Unhinged Flair promos are great when the crowd is hot, which they usually are. Not so great when the crowd doesn't give a shit. Bagwell is so lame here.

[1999-07-05-WCW-Nitro] Kevin Nash, Randy Savage and Sid
Everything about this segment is stupid, pointless and confusing. WCW has really turned a corner here. Even in the beginning of the year you could see them doing dumb stuff -- the Fingerpoke of course, the weird face/heels turns, but I generally enjoyed the product. There was exciting stuff going on and the people on top were over. In the last month everything has just gone straight to hell. Definitely one of the worst main event programs ever.

[1999-07-04-AJPW-Summer Action Series] Kenta Kobashi & Kentaro Shiga vs Yoshihiro Takayama & Takao Omori
AJPW's done higher ranked guy with lower ranked guy many times but here Shiga is almost useless which is a fun dynamic. His run of offense when he gets tagged in is cool but he very shortly gets shut down and dispatched easily. Cool to see a very good AJPW tag not worked like an important epic.

[1999-07-03-ECW-TV] Little Guido vs Yoshihiro Taijiri vs Super Crazy
I love all this Guido/Crazy/Tajiri stuff. Really feels like a style you're not gonna see anywhere else which is nice. The emphasis is always on the work, and the work is great, but they work in enough rule breaking stuff to still give it a very distinct ECW feel without letting that stuff take over the match. I like how they were able to get all three guys consistently involved in the action without recourse to contrived three-person spots. The crow is super into this and it's quite a performance for a house show.

[1999-01-22-AJPW-New Year's Giant Series] Mitsuharu Misawa vs Toshiaki Kawada
Ha, I'm glad I came in on the tail end before footage was massively available online. I started buying tapes/DVDs (usually tapes, a lot of the sites I used still sold VHSs for cheaper than DVDs for whatever reason) in 2004. It really is a different kind of "connection" I think. Anyone who never paid 20 dollars for a VHS or DVD plus shipping and waiting two weeks to get it just to see ONE match shouldn't even be allowed to say they like Japanese wrestling

[1999-07-01-WCW-Thunder] Randy Savage and Kevin Nash
I don't know what's worse, this, that long series of black and white vignettes from earlier in the year, or the helicopter attack. Laughably stupid in every day.

[1999-06-27-Onita Pro] Atsushi Onita & Shigeo Okumura & Sambo Asako & Mitsunobo Kikuzawa vs Genichiro Tenryu & Shoji Nakamaki & Ichiro Yaguchi & Hiroshi Ono (No Rope Barbed Wire Double Hell Death Street Fight)
We miss about five minutes to a clip in the beginning but wow this is something else. Hard to comment too much on this match because I don't really know who anyone is but Tenryu and Onita but this is a totally crazy spectacle. They don't waste any time going for the barbed wire spots here. Toward the end Tenryu actually drops one of the barbed wire covered boards onto the crowd by the ring. Talk about a heel! One guy on Onita's team gets wrapped up in barbed wire by his opponents but turns it around at the end, sacrificing himself by slamming his barbed wire covered body into guys on Tenryu's team. This is like the WAR brawl but even wilder and more dynamic.

[1999-06-27-NJPW-Summer Struggle] Kensuke Sasaki & Shiro Koshinaka vs Tatsutoshi Goto & Michiyoshi Ohara
Sasaki is fun here as the unstoppable freight train and the crowd is really hot. Despite Sasaki and Koshinaka totally dominating for the entirety of the clip, Koshinaka gets hit with a side suplex right after pulling off a big double team move and gets pinned.

[1999-06-24-WCW-Thunder] Eddy Guerrero vs Psicosis
Awesome match that really gets to feeling like a pretty big contest for a B-show TV match. Eddy is really fantastic here. Psicosis is good too and really does a good job selling some knee work. Another WCW match probably better than the best WWF match of the year.

[1999-06-24-RINGS] Kiyoshi Tamura vs Yoshihisa Yamamoto
Now this match is astounding, maybe the best shoot style match I've ever seen. This is perfect right from the beginning. Tamura starting it off with a slap really gives this a different kind of character right from the bell and the crowd is on fire for it. The grappling is top notch, lots of great struggle and submission teasing. The crowd reacts big to the submission teases and, awesomely, reacts big not just for either guy getting out of submissions but even for successfully fighting off attempts. The first time a big submission is locked on a forces a rope break it feels like a huge deal. There are bunch of memorable high spots here, which is a term that can feel out of place in shoot style but totally applies: Yammamoto's great flurry of punches to Tamura that gets him a yellow card, Yammamoto locking in a sleeper that had been teased a couple times, Tamura on top of Yammamoto and unloading with punches before grabbing an ankle lock, a particularly great stuggle over an armbar. The last few minutes are incredible, Tamura totally unloads on Yammamoto and at times it's just the ropes saving him. The stand up is always great too and is worked wonderfully into the match. Love the very end where Tamura had Yammamoto down but stands back up, wanting to take his last chance with strikes. An all time classic and definitely MOTY.

[1999-06-21-WCW-Nitro] Sting vs Sid Vicious
Sting responding the Savage's promo with the "we've got two words for you" right before the show goes off the air is just about one of the lamest things I've ever seen. Why would he even say that?
