[1990-05-28-NJPW] Riki Choshu vs Shinya Hashimoto
Nice match, but it felt like it was missing something. Maybe on this day and this environment it was exactly what they needed to do, but watching this in a vacuum, it didn't feel complete to me. Good stuff though, I've always liked Hashimoto in the limited stuff of his that I have seen.

1980s Wrestling Party Podcast #6 aka No Rest for the Wicked
I would be down for a Yearbook 90 podcast. With more things included on the Yearbook comps that are strictly for comedic value, I have to imagine that would play well in a group watching setting where people can shit all over it.

Dave Meltzer stuff
From this week's Observer, about Bruno's Wrestlemania payoff: So he's getting a Wrestlemania top star payoff, but not getting a Wrestlemania top star payoff? C'mon Dave, clear language. Just word it as, "The deal Bruno inked is at a CM Punk/Randy Orton level Wrestlemania payoff" and that makes sense.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
So that new WWE belt is a real piece of garbage, huh? My friend put it best...it looks like a giant class ring.

[1990-05-26-ICW-TV] Interview: Tony Atlas
I liked this promo more than some of the more recent Tony Atlas promos on the set because it sounded like he was building up an issue, rather than just talking about himself. Tony Atlas is wasting away here in ICW, which seems to have a TV show but no idea what to do with that TV show. Unfortunately, when Atlas finally does get out of ICW, it's not for a better situation for himself.

[1990-05-26-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Interview: Ric Flair & Ole Anderson / Rocky King vs Cactus Jack
I think this could have been just as effective an angle if they had taken the racism out of Flair and Ole's remarks. Hell, why is Rocky King the only other guy besides Jim Ross to know about JYD? Was it in the Black WON? Both JYD and King have some charisma, and JYD doesn't look completely terrible here (even though he's totally out of shape and even Flair is going to struggle to get anything out of him) and I can't help but think this would have been a good angle if Ole hadn't made it so damned uncomfortable to watch.

[1990-05-26-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler and The Snowman
This was even better than the last segment. As much as I love Bohemian Brother, that segment felt a bit long for something they're trying to portray as a shoot. This time around, they just go right into it and throw great looking punches that look different enough from wrestling punches to where even people who "knew" wrestling was fake in the area must have been thinking this was a legit fight. Great stuff.

[1990-05-26-USWA-Memphis TV] Race Relations In The USWA: A Panel Discussion, Led by Eddie Marlin!
This is great stuff, because Lawler isn't concerned with one-liners or burying his opponent, but he's treating Snowman as a credible, serious threat and as a guy whom he really wants to fight. Everybody here is great in their role, even Bohemian Brother. It feels like Lawler has become invigorated by having an opponent he actually treats seriously rather than the parade of jokes that they've run through the territory during the first five months of the year.

[1990-05-26-WWF-Superstars] Ultimate Warrior promo
Rick Rude and Ultimate Warrior are in two different feuds, it seems. Rick Rude is training his ass off, preparing for another match with the Warrior, and speaking in coherent sentences. The Ultimate Warrior is babbling about his womb and the Intercontinental world and...well, I don't know what the fuck that psychopath is talking about. It's different from the Hogan feud, but it sure as shit isn't any better.

[1990-05-26-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Hulk Hogan & Earthquake
As funny as that would be, this was recorded on April 23, almost a month before Capital Combat, so unless somebody in the WWF front office could see the future, I doubt that would be the case. Besides, if somebody in the WWF front office could see the future, they should have been putting it to much better use than making fun of Lex Luger, like trying to make sure the WBF never happened. This was my first Hulk Hogan injury angle as a kid, so it has a little bit of nostalgia value for me. That said, I had no idea the segment was this short...I remembered it being longer, maybe because of how well the WWF sold the angle in post production for the next several weeks. So while this actual angle isn't much, the WWF did a pretty good job of making chicken salad out of chicken shit, and made Earthquake look like a monster.

[1990-05-26-AJPW-Super Power Series] Mitsuharu Misawa & Kenta Kobashi & Akira Taue vs Jumbo Tsuruta & Great Kabuki & Masa Fuchi
I enjoyed the hell out of this. Jumbo seems to be playing a different role from where he was at the start of the Yearbook and is definitely a lot more heelish here. Love that he can't wait to make a tag to get at Misawa and they have two mid-match pull aparts just to settle everything down. Is this the only time Taue ever teams with Misawa and Kobashi? Seems weird for them to be on the same side. But yeah, this is a fantastic match.

[1990-05-25-USWA Texas] Kerry Von Erich vs Matt Borne
Good, short brawl with Percy continuing his heel turn by distracting Kerry Von Erich at the finish. He telegraphs a turn more on commentary by being more critical of Kerry than he is of other babyfaces. He desperately needs a turn, as without Eric Embry around, he doesn't really have anything to do, and he's not a great color commentator, so he feels wasted here.

[1990-05-25-USWA Texas] Bill Dundee vs John Tatum
"The makings of a beautiful love story," says Craig Johnson about the new Tessa/Bill Dundee romance. Sure, a beautiful love story that starts when Tessa is getting beaten up by John Tatum and when Bill Dundee forces himself on her a bunch of times. I've confused this one with Gone with the Wind a bunch of times.

[1990-05-25-USWA Texas] Steve Austin vs Chris Adams (Barbed Wire)
I liked how this match was more about teasing the damage of the barbed wire more than it was about two maniacs carving each other up in the barbs. The gashes Austin gives himself (whether accidentally or on purpose) sell the danger of the match without these guys having to bleed buckets all over the ring. Good match.

Elimination Chamber 2013
The World Heavyweight Title is basically the IC belt these days, with the IC and US belts basically being the Million Dollar Belt and the King's Crown. It's such an afterthought of a title that I don't think anybody on creative really, truly cares who is in that match. When was the last time the WHC match didn't open a PPV? When was the last time the WHC match was higher than 4th on the Wrestlemania pecking order? It's just not an important title there.

[1990-05-24-NJPW] Riki Choshu vs Keiji Muto
The finishing sequence to end this was really good, with both men getting nearfalls until Choshu welcomes Mutoh back to New Japan by making him put over the booker. Really good match, possibly my favorite Japanese match of the set so far.
