1980s Wrestling Party #12
Dylan and I disagree on a lot, but not here. He's exactly on the money about that match and I love it for all the same reasons.

Don't they have those fantasy baseball camps where you can pay to play with retired star players?

I don't know, the crowds still pop for him. Just not as much if he was off tv before comebacks. It's the HHH version of special attraction, he is one...but not as much of one as all the guys he worked with. Lol.

Am I the only one who just can't look at Christian and think "Old Veteran" ? Even though he is, I just can't feel it. Like, on SD tonight Ambrose called him "Old Man Christian" and I was like, "Huh?". I mean, I get it...Ambrose is trying to get under his skin, but that requires some kernel of truth to the mind game and I just never think of Christian as a guy who can be considered "old" even though he's been around for a long time. I think this a sign that I'm actually old. And I'm having trouble coming to terms with it.

Dave Meltzer stuff
And I thought the whole nose to nose shit in wrestling looked silly.

Not saying you're wrong, but I distinctly recall reading that they came up with that story and put it on WWE.com to keep Bryan looking tough after having to have the match stopped. Including WWE.com quotes from people saying "I've never seen anything like it since Bret and HBK" That being said, I do totally buy the idea of Vince being impressed by Bryan wanting to keep working and yelling at his boss.

Wait, I thought that the whole "Bryan flipped out backstage on HHH" thing was a work.

I love Cornette. He's still funny, he still is a blast to listen to when he's talking about old school stuff or shit he likes. But like Bix said, at this point the bitching is counter productive and not good for the guy. And as far as I'm concerned, it's getting old. The well of "DID YA HEAR WHAT ANGRY CORNETTE SAID" shit is dried up. You can only run that gimmick so long before you become a parody. And to be honest, as much as I love the guy...I met him a few times at ROH shows and he was always a great guy who remembered our few conversations, and I love his work... I gave up on the whole "Cult of Cornette" net shit when I read about how he would scream at Storm and Jericho because they wouldn't fuck the rats to get over with the girls old school style. And I think Lance was married.

Is it possible to have a heel company ace?
The "ace" of Detroit was The Sheik.

The thing that actually gets me is the "traumatized" shit. Christ, if getting yelled at work and having to deal with bosses who are always on your ass even when they're being fuckwits is traumatizing then I've been suffering from PTSD for the last 24 years.

Here's the thing. I don't at all doubt that couldn't be true. But since the little cottage industry of former writers doing podcasts, interviews, etc, etc, is so prevalent right now and they all need to start outdoing each other, I tend to consider former writers who are "shooting" to be as reliable and not full of shit as much as I do wrestlers doing shoots. Which is to say, not at all. And "traumatized"? Really?

That Mark Henry career retrospective/ hype video was fucking awesome. Edit: And Holy Fuck, that Henry promo was off the charts. Oh, and I'm loving how they're having Vickie be this poor befuddled woman who's just trying to do her job but is pulled three different ways by McMahons who are giving mixed signals. It's a shout out to the internet who constantly read/ hear stories about how the writing team receives the same treatment. Shit, Vince yelling at Vickie for "giving away that main event and not saving it for PPV" was smark talking point #35. edit: Stephanie complaining about the "woman denigrating" stuff is #27. Oh and Cesaro's Flair trunks ruled, as did Dutch's joke about how the defeat of DOMA will lead America to it's knees.

Who from today would have made it ...
Miz would have done just fine "back then". Come on, in an era where they had ugly motherfuckers like Tommy Rich and Robert Gibson as "dreamboats" for the ladies a guy with Miz's looks would be a total blowjob.

Hey kids! Check it out! And enjoy it while it lasts! Some dude has started putting up 1985 syndicated World Wide Wrestling (Crockett) shows on the youtube. He starts with the first show of 1985 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1rG0Ue_9jI And apparently he's also a DeadHead. Which explains why he's a great man.

Fuck, I want to see it, if only to see how they edit a bunch of previous shoots into a "new" show. I wouldn't pay for it but I'd watch it for sure. What a great con. "Here's clips from all the shoots you bought presented as a new DVD."

Great Promotion Years
Speaking of 1984, WWF 1984 was an incredible year. You had new champ Hogan facing a variety of heels on top, Slaughter's face turn and feud with Sheik, Tito winning the IC belt and feuding with various heels arriving like Orndorff and Schultz then Valentine coming in and getting it, the arrival of Piper and the Pit and his fued with Snuka, the Cyndi Lauper angle, Tonga Kid becoming the hottest thing going for awhile, JYD coming in, Atlas and Johnson being red hot then Adonis and Murdoch coming in, and Windham and Rotundo getting there at the end of the year, and more. Edit: I for got Heenan coming in, and Studd and Patera cutting Andre's hair. I was looking at the History of WWF site and was surprised to see just how long Backlund stuck around after the title loss. I don't recall him being on TV much.
