HHH taking over from Vince on RAW
As someone who works in healthcare and has had to nearly memorize HIPAA over the years, I can say that a company can't reveal employee's medical conditions. And what STD that clears up in a few weeks could a guy not wrestle with? It's not like Nash literally fucks people he works with.

Wrestling Myth Busters
Ah, Wrestling was super-hot when Verne got Slaughter on a silver platter. Slaughter at the time was pretty much just as big a star in the WWF as Hogan was. Considering that Verne had the syndicated Pro Wrestling USA show AND ESPN, he could have made a run at Vince with Sarge as Champ, but they instead created "The Americas Title" for him to chase underneath the title programs.

That reminds me off this thing I posted some years ago.

The greatest cons in wrestling history
Oh, I disagree. I LOVED watching Vince scramble and try anything to compete with WCW at that time. And I still enjoy it, as I re-watched most of it recently. All of a sudden Vince is having Cornette shoot, all sorts of wild ideas are being tried, the NWA "invasion", the whole suddenly recognizing the rest of the wrestling world, the ECW stuff, and when some of the shit began sticking to the wall seeing the evolution at the time was a blast. And the stuff that was shit still cracks me up. I still want to know who convinced Vince that an NWA "Invasion" was gonna be competitive with the NWO just because the NWA was a real company. My favorite rebooting of characters was the Godwinns. When they started just wearing overalls, and dropped the goofy shit? They were fucking bad ass.

Just wanted to add to the praise for the work here, guys. KHawk, that Blackwell stuff is outstanding.

2011 Observer Hall of Fame thread
I was surprised that Albano wasn't already in. As far as managers go, he was a major part of a ton of money making programs over the course of his career I'd imagine and he's the reason the Rock N' Wrestling thing happened. If he hadn't been in that Cyndi Lauper video, then no MTV involvement in wrestling.

CM Punk: Greatest Promo Ever
Honestly? It's just the wording itself that's annoying as fuck. Let's face it, "Self-Conscious Epic " just sounds and reads like something that if said by someone in an actual spoken conversation would make me want to brain someone with a hammer.

He ended up with a job in WWE as an agent. That's pretty awesome.

Thanks for killing "self conscious epic" dead in the water. Every time I saw that over the last week or so I've wanted to punch people through my screen.

Resident Evil Quits the Board
Ok, I never saw all that "third testicle" stuff and related stories before, but after reading that I totally get a vibe that he was putting people on with that shit. That's just too out there to be real, right? Not saying his entire persona was a "rib", but that stuff reads like someone fucking with people. Which is something I love, and if it's true that it's a gag.... I now sorta like the guy.

CM Punk: Greatest Promo Ever
I guess. I was there live and it was more like, "WOOOHOOO!!!! SAMOA JOE AND KENTA KOBASHI ARE LIGHTING UP THE FUCK OUT OF EACH OTHER AND I'M 4TH ROW!!!!. AWESOME!!!! " to me.

The Smokey Mountain Night Of Legends dvd has a choice between the actual commentary or Dave and Cornette. It's a ton of fun.

1989 to 1998
See, Ricky Steamboat was SUCH a Babyface that he realized that the best way to hurt Savage for what he had done to him was to take the title that meant more to Savage than anything. And that's why manic Steamboat fans such as myself got so pissed off when he lost it right away to Honky. Looking back, I love the Honkytonk Man and his IC run, but at the time him beating Steamboat was a big factor in me going, "Ah, fuck this wrestling shit." and slowly stopping watching for a few years.

Reigns that really hurt or devalued a title
Except that it's been fun. I think you'd like it. They have Punk doing promos about how WWE sucks using lots of typical internet smart mark cliches.

Tony Schiavone and early 90s WCW announcing
I was watching the Best of Nitro DVD set again and boy oh boy, Mongo just might be the worst announcer ever. I remember switching to RAW a hell of a lot because I couldn't take him anymore.

Resident Evil Quits the Board
See, right there is what I meant. That idea of his that if people weren't apeshit for what is supposed to to be smart fan canon, that it must be some psychological deal or plot to tear down what is good and pure. As far as all that penis cutting stuff goes, I never saw any of that and I'd thank you all to not post it again, so I don't wake up screaming after reading it before bed. He actually may be onto something though. I'm a huge Lawler fan, I'm 41 and dating a 20 year-old girl, and deep down I think do want to screw Jerry Lawler. I think he's a cuddler.

CM Punk: Greatest Promo Ever
Del Rio sticking his tongue out while doing his promo isn't whatever that is. Jesus Christ, speak English. Duke The Dumpster Droese is a "cartoon character". Adam Bomb is a "cartoon character". Del Rio isn't a cartoon character.

CM Punk: Greatest Promo Ever
Jeez some of that gurning he did last night in his promo would make you think otherwise. Gurning?

Resident Evil Quits the Board
No, he basically was the opposite. He held true to what would be considered "what's good in wrestling and what isn't" in a paint by the numbers "smart mark" deal. The same old, "Dynamite Kid was a god, Stampede was the best, Bret Hart being "the Best EVER" wasn't just his character but was TRUE, Memphis sucks, Fighting spirit..blah, blah." When confronted by people who don't think the same way he'd break out the "you're all just trying to be different" horseshit...but then he'd add in the wonderful shit about how he needed to educate people to show them the error of their thinking. And how thinking about wrestling in a way that didn't jibe with his was "dangerous". And that people who didn't like what he considered great were just jealous that people / wrestlers are so great and that not liking them or their matches was just bitter people trying to bash what they could never do in order to justify their pathetic non Stampede Wrestling lives. I mean, yummmm..That's some good crazy, right there.

And I really don't see Del Rio as a "cartoon character". At all.

Resident Evil Quits the Board
Oh fuck, the "I'm offended by this movie/ No one knows who Judd Aptow is" thread was a hoot and a holler. I wish I could find the original thread at DVDVR where he first started going on about how evil and awful Memphis Wrestling is. I know it was based around "realistic punches.", but it was at least 4 years ago.
