Maple Leaf Wrestling Results
Maple Leaf Wrestling presents Canada versus USA July 26, 1983 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario The show opens with the President of Maple Leaf Wrestling Jack Tunney and the President of Mid-Altantic Wrestling Jim Crockett being introduced and then sitting at ringside. That is followed up by the playing of the American than the Canadian national anthems. 1. Barry Darsow (USA) vs "Big" Steven Petipas (CAN) Petipas out works the monster Darsow for the big pinfall to give Canada the 1-0 lead. Winner - Stephen Petipas @ 7:33 2. Cuban Assassin & Chicky Starr w/ "No Class" Bobby Bass vs Angelo RIvera & Tony Garea (No DQ) A wild and crazy brawl that is fought in a Tornado Rules style. Rivera keeps trying to get at Starr, but gets cut off by The Assassin or Bass. Bass and Rivera are both busted open from vicious punches. Rivera finally nails Bass with a slam on the cement floor and gets Starr one on one in the ring. As he is about to take his revenge, Cuban Assassin nails him from behind with a steel chair leading to Starr pinning Rivera for the win. The blooded Bass along with Starr and The Assassin celebrate to their salsa music. Winners - Cuban Assassin & Chicky Starr @ 12:55 3. Buddy Roberts (USA) vs Ben Bassarab (CAN) Bassarab puts up a valiant fight, but the veteran Buddy is able to pick up the victory with the DDT to tie the series at 1-1. Winner - Buddy Roberts @ 9:42 4. Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy (USA) vs Leo Burke (CAN) They work the classic big man versus smaller wrestler with Gordy keeping in control due to his strength. Leo has a great comeback and hits a huge leg lariat for a really close nearfall. However Gordy is able to pick up the win with a big piledirver to put the USA ahead 2-1. Winner - Terry Gordy @ 18:03 5. Mr. Saito, Masked Samurai & Jesse "The Body" Ventura vs Bret Hart, Wahoo McDaniel & Tiger Conway Jr. Saito was the real hoss here and picked up the win with the Saito Suplex on Bret. A lot of the match was Jesse hiding behind his two charges. Conway played a great face in peril, and Wahoo destroyed everybody during the hot tag. However Saito was too much once Bret was tagged back in. Winner - Mr. Saito, Masked Samurai & Jesse "The Body" Ventura @ 13:21 Intermission: During the break Jack Tunney announces that Maple Leaf Wrestling will return to Maple Leaf Gardens on August 30th and will feature Mr. Saito challenging for the NWA Canadian Title. 6. WWF Intercontinental Champion Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat vs "The Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko Larry does a lot of stalling which only makes him more hated and Steamboat more loved. Steamboat goes for a flying move, but Larry ducks and the referee is knocked down. Larry uses brass knuckles to knock out Steamboat and the second referee counts Steamboat out. He goes to award Larry the title, but the first referee names Steamboat the victor via DQ due to the use of the brass knuckles. Winner - Ricky Steamboat @ 16:54 by DQ 7. Michael "P.S." Hayes (USA) vs Rocky Johnson (CAN) Two of the most charismatic wrestlers have a nice battle that the crowd was way into. If Hayes won this one, then Canada was out of it so every nearfall was exciting. Johnson was able to reverse the DDT into an inside cradle to win it and tie the series at 2. WInner - Rocky Johnson @ 11:32 8. NWA World Midget's Champion Little Tokyo vs Tiger Jackson This seemed to be Jackson's night as he dominated Tokyo early and was confident after pinning him on July 1st. However, Tokyo was able to use salt behind the referee's back to gain the advantage and hit a big flying kamikaze drop for the win. Winner - Little Tokyo @ 9:00 9. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair (USA) vs Rick Martel (CAN) Tunney and Crockett get out of their seats and stand in their respective captain's corners for the match up. The hatred is there from Canada Day when Flair ruined the Canada Cup ceremony and slapped Martel. Flair cheated early and worked on Martel's legs, but Martel kept fighting back and worked over Flair's back. Around 35 minutes in Flair looked to be the victor by locking on the figure-four but Martel got to the ropes. As the battle continued Martel tossed Flair over the top via a desperation move and then collapsed due to exhaustion. At this point Crockett started to celebrate erroneously and Flair got into the ring with a huge smile and approached the referee to raise his hand. Martel was then able to roll up Flair from behind for the pin. Tunney rushed the ring to celebrate with Martel, as Crockett rushed the ring to argue with the referee. The announcer named Martel and thus Canada the winner as a dejected Flair and Crockett left arguing all the way to the back. Martel was then joined by the rest of Team Canada as the 5 men plus Jack Tunney celebrated Canada being the best wrestling nation and Maple Leaf Wrestling being the best promotion in the world. Winner - Rick Martel @ 37:32 Canada beats USA 3-2!

The Highest Level of Stupid
I am in the mood for a laugh, so what is some of the most stupid decisions in wrestling history? I am sure we can fill 20 pages of Russo crap alone.

Ron Starr is awesome. EIther him or Joel Deaton, since everybody was booked already. Do you have an opponent to fly in?

Problems with running these towns?
There are cities and places that are not being run by certain promotions an I wanted to start a thread where people can ask if anybody has a problem with them running those towns. I have a dilemma for my September schedule. I have a long drive from the Maritimes to Windsor, Ontario (20 hours) and would love to stop along the way and have a show somewhere, the problem is Parv and maybe somebody else being annoyed by this. First: 9/13 Berwick Arena in Berwick, Nova Scotia 9/17 either Niagra Falls or Windsor That's a three day stretch to do a 20 hour drive (17 for Niagra Falls), not soooo horrible. It's the worst my territory has to offer. However, if I could take one of those three days to run a show that would be awesome. During that drive I cross through New Hapshire, Maine, Boston, Albany, Syracuse, Rochester... The other thing is... when I run Windsor, I am like 30 minutes from Detroit, Michigan and it would be mighty nice to run a show there. Can I run any of these places?

G-1 Climax 25 Discussion
About to watch Honma-Okada from Night 4 and this tournament has been nothing special so far. Lots of alright wrestling. Best matches so far: AJ vs Shibata Nakamura vs Nagata Nothing else is 3 3/4 for me. Although we should be comparing the first 4 shows to the first 2 shows last year and its not way behind that yet. Last year didn't get awesome till night 4 or 5, so there is still hope.

Just like that Jack Tunney books Ron Starr getting a WWF Intercontinental Title match in Maple Leaf Gardens on July 26th. It's good to make deals with Tunney.

NWA Maple Leaf Wrestling
The final few matches have been added to the big USA vs Canada show in Maple Leaf Gardens on July 26th. Angelo Rivera who claims to be Chicky Starr's brother wants revenge after the beat down the Cubans put on him and has recruited Tony Garea to be his partner. Angelo Rivera and Tony Garea will challenge Chicky Starr and Cuban Assassin in a No DQ match! The final big match has the WWF Intercontinental Champion Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat will be in town to defend his title against newcomer "Rotten" Ron Starr in what should be an awesome encounter.

That works for me. I don't have a definite date in mind for when I want to bring him in, are you ok working off a deal where I give you 2 weeks notice to write him out? Right now I'm thinking you'll have him 4-6 weeks but it could be longer. Works for me.

I could use Ron Starr to help out the midcard heels. A feud with Stephen Petipas would be the slot.

Maple Leaf Wrestling Television Thread
Maple Leaf Wrestling presents Wrestling Night in Canada July 24, 1983 at Civic Center in Brantford, Ontario The opening video package of Wrestling Night in Canada opens the show featuring clips of: Greg Valentine, Wahoo McDaniel, Stephen Petipas, Jesse Ventura, Ivan Koloff, Leo Burke, Rocky Johnson and ends with a clip of Rick Martel being awarded the NWA Canadian Title. Nick McMann, Billy Red Lyons and Jesse "The Body" Ventura are at the announce booth to welcome us to the show. Jesse says he has a big scoop as The Russians will be on The Body Shop this week and he will try to find out who the Super Russian is. They also hype the main event of Rick Martel defending the NWA Canadian Title against former Champion Angelo Mosca, as well as the big US vs Canada series in Maple Leaf Gardens on Tuesday. We get a video montage set to "Beat It' by Michael Jackson of all the set up to the US vs Canada match series, including some footage of Martel in Jim Crocket Promotions and Georgia. -COMMERCIAL (1) 1. Leo Burke, Rocky Johnson, Ben Bassarab & Stephen Petipas vs Gary Royal, Killer Karl Krupp, Paul Christy & Rick Patterson The heels are able to get Basarab into a face in peril section, but the hot tag comes and Rocky is able to pin Royal to end the match. All action as guys tagged in and out quickly. Winners - Leo Burke, Rocky Johnson, Ben Bassarab & Stephen Petipas @ 7:42 -COMMERCIAL (2) The announcers hype up some footage sent to us by Jim Crocket Promotions. We get the inside of a bar where Ric Flair, Buddy Roberts, Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy and Barry Darsow are hanging out. They are drinking and mocking Canadians, especially Martel. Flair and Hayes joke about which one of them can get with the pretty blonde in the corner first, but as they are speaking Gordy walks up to the girl and they leave together to the shock of Hayes and Flair. -COMMERCIAL (3) 2. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine vs Nick DeCarlo Greg is cocky and does quite a beat down on DeCarlo before making him submit to the figure-four. Valentine even does a Wahoo War Dance to mock McDaniel. Word from the back is that Wahoo did not see it, as was preparing for his match tonight. WInner - Greg Valentine @ 4:42 -COMMERCIAL (4) It is now time for "The Body Shop" with Jesse Ventura. This week's guests are "The Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff, Super Russian and their manager Don Carson. Jesse asks The Super Russian what it is like to team with a legend like Koloff, but Carson interrupts him. The Super Russian refuses to speak in English. Carson notes that the USSR has proved it is the best country in the world in hockey and is now proving it in wrestling. Carson runs down The Super Russians history as a super athlete from being the son of a legendary Olympic wrestler to getting all the best training. Koloff then talks about how they will keep the titles no matter who is put in front of them. -COMMERCIAL (5) On the way to the ring Wahoo says this tag match is for Bret Hart to prepare for the six-man tag team with him against these two and Ventura on Tuesday in the Gardens. However, he was told what Valentine did and on August 20th in Oshawa when he gets a singles match with Valentine, he will destroy him. 3. Wahoo McDaniel & Tiger Conway Jr. vs Mr. Saito & Masked Samurai Jesse leaves the announcers area in the middle of the match and is able to trip up Conway giving Saito the win with the Saito Suplex. Winner - Mr. Saito & Masked Samurai @ 8:49 -COMMERCIAL (6) The announcers hype up the main event of next week's show of Stephen Petipas vs Super Russian and Wahooo McDaniel will be the guest on The Body Shop. They talk about the upcoming main event coming up after this break. The announcers are interrupted by Angelo Rivera the Puerto Rican who was on the video played on The Body Shop last week. He calls out The Cuban team and out comes "No Class" Bobby Bass and Cuban Assassin. Angelo wants to know where Chicky Starr is, but he is told, by the Cubans, that he refuses to talk to him. That is when Angelo reveals that he is Chicky Starr's brother and he just wants him to come home to Puerto Rico with him. At this point Chick Starr attacks him from behind and with the help of Bass and Assassin they beat him down until security separates them. -COMMERCIAL (7) Main Event: NWA Canadian Champion Rick Martel vs "King Kong' Angelo Mosca Martel does the best selling he can do on Mosca's offense to try to make this match worthwhile. With Mosca being the former Champion that was never defeated he is very confident. He was even able to bust Martel open on the ring post. In the end Martel makes Mosca submit to the Boston Crab. Winner - Rick Martel @ 11:05 After the match Leo Burke, Rocky Johnson, Ben Bassarab and Stephen Petpas come to ringside to help Martel celebrate and to put up a strong front going into Maple Leaf Gardens on Tuesday to face the Amiercan team. Dark Matches: Joel Deaton def. Tony Garea @ 8:44 Chicky Starr & Cuban Assassin def. Bob & Joe Marcus @ 6:32
