WWE Smackdown, 1/29 From Boston, MA The show starts with Tom Phillips & JBL recapping Raw and the Royal Rumble. They bring up the #1 Contenders Tag Tournament, which has officially been labelled as the Captain Lou Albano Memorial Tournament. The winner will meet the WWE Tag Team Champions at WrestleMania XXXI. They are about to go over the brackets when Tyson Kidd comes to join them. He says the brackets don't matter because he has signed Luke Harper as his partner! Phillips, JBL & Kidd go over the brackets. After this match Tyson Kidd goes to the back to talk strategy with Luke Harper for their opening round match on Monday. A pre-recorded interview with Daniel Bryan excepting the condition that Cesaro will be the first challenger if Cesaro beats him at Fast Lane and if he wins the World Title. He talks about how great Cesaro is and how it will prepare him for WrestleMania against Brock. 2) Dean Ambrose vs Fandango Ambrose wins easily and mocks Fandango a lot in 5 minutes. Renee Young interviews Sami Zayn & Dolph Ziggler backstage about the tournament and how they can team after that 30 minute draw on Raw a few days ago. They explain the respect they gained for each other in that match and Zayn says they will have a rematch in the near future. Dolph looks slightly annoyed but brushes it off. 3) #1 Contenders Match: Brie Bella w/ Nikki Bella vs Charlotte Charlotte gets the win when Natayla (who joined the match once Nikki interfered to prevent more interference) distracts Brie leading to the pin at about 6 minutes. JBL invites Sheamus to the ring to explain his actions from the Royal Rumble and joining the Authority. Sheamus says its really simple. No fans wrote letters when he was injured. No other wrestlers visited him while he was doing rehab. Only The Authority did. They helped nurse him back to health and he is here to make sure they get what they want. He then talks about winning the Lou Albano tournament with Seth Rollins and going into WrestleMania and winning the WWE Tag Team Titles. 4)Captain Lou Memorial Tournament First Round Match: Sami Zayn & Dolph Ziggler vs The Miz & Damien Mizdow Zayn & Ziggler get the win in 7 minutes with what you would expect. Miz freaks out about another loss and Mizdow copies his freak out. A Raw Recap focusing on John Cena and walking away from Rusev. What does that mean going forward? 5) A New Day vs Goldust & Stardust & Bad News Barrett Goldust pins Kofi in 8 minutes to win the match. A New Day will face Star & Gold Dust next week in the first round of the tournament. After the match the Bellas brawl with Natayla and Charlotte as the show ends.

Negro Casas vs Maximo, CMLL 1/11 I loved this one so much. It is also the PWO-PTBN Podcast Network Facebook page Match Club match for this week I added a lot of thoughts there and there is much discussion.

Did you know that the only reason Atlantis/Guerrero, Shield/Wyatts and Bryan/Triple H made it into the top 10 matches of the year is because New Japan put on so many awesome matches that people forgot to vote for a bunch of them? This irked me, quite an obtuse stance from Dave. The thing is, I love CMLL, think they were by far the best promotion in the world in 2014, and have come to the realization that they have been for many years now. I could see a top 10 where it was nothing but CMLL matches, that would make perfect sense to me. However, when people are submitting their top 10 lists and they are full of non-CMLL matches I don't for a second think, "They must have forgotten some of the great CMLL matches, that's the only reason they have any other promotions on their list." That's silly, and when Dave does it with NJPW it shows a hubris towards the rest of the wrestling world that is hard to stomach. Dave is by all means entitled to his opinion, but the way he so easily dismisses any promotion not named NJPW and siscredits the opinions of others who may not love NJPW, it's, as previously stated, hard to stomach. What's even worse is that even Joe Lanza wouldn't think that. Nobody would ever have that thought, but here is the most respected reporter in wrestling saying that. It just makes everything else he says less reliable.

Being a fan is one thing, stated that the awards are all going to NJ because they are so great they get over looked is insane.

Why can't Taker just be in Bryan's corner when he faces Brock? Taker teaches Bryan how to rule at Mania and keeps his eye on Heyman. Bryan wins, Taker gets some sort of revenge for the streak being defeated, everyone is happy.

Define big shows?

It's criminal that El Torito didn't place for most underrated. What a waste of such a talent. As for someone who should had been a main eventer, but was screwed by management I would look at La Parka in WCW. Sure he did it in Mexico, but in America he could had been huge.

If Taker's first match back after losing to Brock is on a Battleground type ppv it would probably help more than a Mania. People are going to buy Mania anyway. Of course you would need month's of someone like Bray calling him out to set it up.

very strongly disagree the issue as i see it was that the streak had become TOO big to make a new star. doesn't seem like that makes any sense at first...but do you really think the fans would buy a roman reigns or even daniel bryan being the one to end it? giving that honor to a newer guy puts way too much pressure on him - he can't ever job again without it seeming ridiculous, basically, and you don't know whether he'll work out as a top star in the long run. the problem with continuing a winning streak this long is that you leave yourself with almost no credible ways of ending it. a "special attraction" type like brock (or andre in his prime, etc. etc.) is really the only good option there, as you at least know what you're getting with those guys and they haven't been as deeply mired in the 50/50 booking as the rest of the roster has. the only alternative i see an argument for is never ending the streak, which is honestly what i was expecting. Using it to turn Cena heel would had been the best option.

Sorry, my wording was clunky. You said standards have dropped since Stephanie won this award. I listed the history of the award. Which winner had a better year than Stephanie's 2014? I think if you put 2014 Stephanie in any of those years (minus the Vince ones) she would still win the award. That is not standards dropping.

dave He really needs to watch more CMLL. I don't even mind if the top 10 should be all NJPW according to his personal taste, what bothers me is this ridiculous, arrogant, fanboyish notion that the only possible reason any non-NJPW match could make it into the top 10 is because NJPW just had so many good matches that people forgot a bunch of them. Rather than, you know, that people have different tastes and not everyone loves absolutely everything that NJPW puts out. I agree, I was just pointing out I could say the same for CMLL

I'm going to jump ahead of the WWE's real time line here, since I've already veered off course so much at the Rumble. WWE Raw, 1/26 Live from Hartford, CT 8:00 PM The show starts with a pre-recorded video from Triple H & Stephanie saying that they have been called into Titan Towers and will not be here tonight. A committee consisting of Dusty Rhodes, Irwin R. Schyster, Booker T, Arn Anderson & Michael Hayes have been put in charge of match making until this issue is settled. The opening video for Raw plays, followed by a recap of the Royal Rumble (with stills, not video) telling us you can watch the full historic event on the WWE Network. Michael Cole and William Regal are at ringside and talk about why The Authority has been called into headquarters and why wasn't Kane put in charge instead of this committee? 1) Intercontinental Title Match: Dolph Ziggler © vs Sami Zayn They go to a 30 minute time limit draw while they announcers talk about how great this was and what will it take to declare a winner between this two after this match. Renee Young calls Daniel Bryan to ringside for an interview. She asks him about the Rumble match and Bryan talks about how big of an achievement it was and how he is back on track after last year's injuries. She asks him about Brock Lesnar. Bryan says he has destroyed monsters in the past and will do so again tonight (talking about the match with Kane in the main event). Brock has a lot to brag about, but Bryan has defeated John Cena as well and at WrestleMania he didn't beat the Streak, but he did beat all three members of Evolution by himself. He is not scared going into Mania, but he does need to get ready. At this point Bryan challenges a man as strong and as athletically talented as Brock Lesnar to a match at Fast Lane. He says it is a man that knows Paul Heyman well too. He challenges Cesaro. 9:00 PM Michael Cole and William Regal are at ringside and they talk about what is next for John Cena after that crushing defeat at the Royal Rumble. They tell us he will address the crowd at 10:00 PM. They also bring up that there will be a tag title tournament, starting on Smackdown on Thursday, where the finals will take place at Fast Lane and the winners will go onto WrestleMania 31 to challenge for the WWE Tag Team Titles. 2) The Ascension vs Los Matadores The Ascension wins in about 6 minutes. They pick up the mic and state that they are going to destroy The Usos at Fast Lane and take the WWE Tag Team Titles. Renee Young interviews Cesaro backstage who accepts the challenge from Bryan on one condition and that is if he wins he wants and if Bryan someone walks out with the title at WrestleMania then he wants to be the first challenger. However, first he needs to teach Tyson Kidd a lesson that Cesaro deserves a title and Kidd needs to pay for costing him one last night. 3) Cesaro vs Tyson Kidd Cesaro defeats Tyson Kidd cleanly in 13 minutes. As Charlotte is making her way to the ring The Bellas appear on the Titan Tron. They mention that both Charlotte and Natalya got lucky last night and they talked to the committee and on Smackdown Nikki will face Natyla in a title rematch and Brie will face Charlotte and if she wins she gets the title match at WrestleMania instead. 4) Charlotte vs Paige Charlotte defeats Paige cleanly in 9 minutes. After the match Renee Young asks Charlotte about the Brie situation, last night and WrestleMania. Charlotte says that she will defeat Brie just like at the Rumble. Charlotte is the NXT WOMEN'S CHAMPION. Brie, Natayla and everyone else may be the best Divas, but she is better than all them and will prove it. 10:00 PM John Cena comes to ringside and is not fired up like usual. He talks about losing to Brock Lesnar and maybe he just doesn't have it anymore. He looks like he is ready to give it up, when Lana and Rusev appear. They say Cena is finished just like the USA and that he should step aside and let Rusev be the man, just like America should step aside for Russia. Cena looks like he might respond, but then just walks away leaving Lana and Rusev alone. 5) Seth Rollins vs Sin Cara. A few minutes in, Randy Orton comes out of the crowd and attacks Rollins. They brawl everywhere Backstage Renee Young interviews Tyson Kidd and he has an insane promo. He will win the Tag Titles at Mania or die trying. He hasn't found his partner yet. There is no way his wife can be the Divas Champion and he can be without a title. They question what is happening with The Authority, if it has to do with Sting and what happened last night. They talk about the two women's matches on Smackdown and then hype the main event. They also let us know that Sheamus will be here next week to explain his actions at the Royal Rumble. A video is shown of Razor Ramon showing us how to watch the WWE Network on a tablet. 6) Daniel Bryan vs Kane Daniel Bryan beats Kane fairly in the middle of the ring at about 14 minutes. He celebrates to "Yes!" chants as the show ends with a graphic hyping up next week's main event of Rusev vs Erick Rowan for the United States Title and Brie-Charlotte & Nikki-Natayla on Smackdown on Thursday!

What a waste. If Taker wrestles again, what a waste. If Brock loses the title before Mania, what a waste. 2014 from the day after WrestleMania going forward was been wasted opportunity after wasted opportunity. The only person who could had booked this worse was Vince Russo. At least we get good matches.

Brock losing the title before Mania seems like such a mistake. You end The Streak for that?
