AWA Independence Day Spectacular from the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, Minneapolis, July 4th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards Special ) Buddy Rose vs. Too Cold Scorpio Rose caught Scorpio in the corner in a roll up with a fistful of trunks and both feet on the ropes to get the dirty pinfall Jake Roberts, Nord The Barbarian & Cactus Jack vs. Bill Dundee, Shane Powers & Greg Gagne Roberts finished off Gagne with the DDT Barbed Wire No DQ Match : Death Sentence vs. The Sheepherders The Sheepherders came out with a young man identified as their flagbearer, Mark Starr. Death Sentence came out with Kevin Sullivan. What followed was an incredibly violent, bloody brawl with both teams going all out against each other. Eventually , Luke Williams demanded that Starr hand him the New Zealand flag to use as a weapon, but Starr stared at him in blank incomprehension. Ultimately, Williams just grabbed the flagpole out of his hands, but by this time Gaylord had gotten the Golden Spike from Sullivan and hit Williams in the head with it, thus scoring the pinfall. After the match, it looked like Williams was going to attack Starr, but Butch Miller whispered something in his ear, and the two Sheepherders grinned evilly as they handed the flag back to Starr and ordered him to follow them back. AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Tom Zenk After fending off several top Japanese contenders over the past month, Tanaka was facing off against one of his most devious contenders in Zenk. Zenk tried to work in every dirty trick in the book , but Tanaka was always able to pull himself out of trouble. It looked like Zenk might just pull it off when he caught Tanaka in the Sleeper Hold, but Tanaka worked his way out of it and soon after the bell rang signaling a 20 minute time limit draw. After the match, Zenk tried to ambush Tanaka with a Superkick, but Tanaka dodged it and fired back with his own spin kick that sent Zenk scrambling. I don't think we have seen the last of this challenge. Chris Adams & Ron Garvin vs. The British Bullies Adams was able to get his revenge on the British Bullies, nailing Jones with the Superkick while Garving knocked out Taylor with the Hands Of Stone Punch. AWA World Tag Team Title Match : Roddy Piper & Bob Orton © vs. The Razor Boys Diamond and Perez worked hard to try to get their titles back from Pipers Pit, with lots of quick tags and plenty of double team and combination moves. Diamond came incredibly close to pulling it off when he caught Piper with a rollup, but while the ref was escorting Perez from the ring, Orton came off the ropes and nailed Diamond with a huge lariat, and Piper was the one to score the pinfall. Once again, Piper's Pit were able to pull off the sneaky win. Boot Camp Match : Sgt. Slaughter vs. Col. Debeers Slaughter has been on a rampage ever since the disappearance of Cobra Corps member Leon White, taking it out on those he sees as responsible. Debeers was certainly not going to roll over, and the two looked like they might just break the ring and everything around hit. The tide turned for good when Slaughter was able to bust open a cut on Debeers' forehead . Sarge then took off one of his own combat boots and started to blast Debeers over and over in the head with that boot. He then locked in the Cobra Clutch, but Debeers was pretty much unconscious by then anyway, so the end was pretty much academic. It looks like Sarge isn't going to start until he gets some answers. AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Bam Bam Bigelow Coming off a bruising title defense against Jerry Blackwell at the Great American Bash, Steamboat was pretty banged up going into this match. Bigelow, with Roddy Piper in tow, took advantage of that and tried to bully the champion all over the ring. Steamboat managed to stay one step ahead of Bam Bam for much of the match, but Bigelow was able to catch him in a series of slams and throws that drove the champ down to the canvas. It seemed like we were in for a new champion when Bigelow ascended to the top rope for the Nuclear Splash, but Steamboat rolled out of the way at the last second, and Bigelow crashed hard onto the mat. Steamboat was able to make it up top and come off with the flying cross body press to get the one two three, giving Bigelow his first loss in the AWA. The champ had held onto his belt, but at what cost?

AWA Canada Day Spectacular from the Saddledome, Calgary, July 1st (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards Special) The Can-Am Express vs. Mando & Hector Guerrero LaFon dropkicked Mando in a belly to back suplex by Furnas to get the win The Great Kabuki vs. Chavo Guerrero An intense bout that ended when Chavo finally hit the top rope flying somersault senton for the victory Larry Zybyszko & Masa Saito vs. The Youngbloods Larry clipped Blackman from behind and set him up for the Jailhouse Lock by Saito, which forced Blackman to give up the match AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : British Steel © vs. Black Irish Finlay had Smiley set up for the Rolling Hills, but Regal nailed him with the Iron Fist Punch, and Smiley followed up with a crucifix to get the pinfall 2/3 Falls Match : Brian Pillman vs. Leo Burke 1st Fall : Burke pinned Pillman after a piledriver 2nd Fall : Burke was going for the Sleeper Hold, but Pillman blocked and countered with inside cradle to take the fall 3rd Fall : Pillman was able to hit a top rope missile dropkick to get the final fall and the match. Post match, Burke did not shake Pillman's hand, but gave him a surly nod of respect Loser of the Fall leaves the AWA : Dan Spivey & Mike Rotundo vs. Ken Patera & Jerry Blackwell Spivey was going into the match with a badly damaged arm from recent matches, and the Syndicate went after it like hungry jackals on a carcass. They relentlessly tore into his arm with nasty slams and limblocks, and Spivey was clearly in much pain throughout the match. Rotundo eventually took out both of his opponents and dragged Spivey over to their corner, forcing the tag. He gave an heroic effort and at a few instances looked like he might just pull it off, but after a double team by Patera and Blackwell they started beating him down like a rag doll. Spivey kept frantically pleading to be tagged in, but Rotundo refused, insisting on going it alone until a shoulder breaker by Patera led to a one two three for the Sinister Syndicate. After the match, the two partners tearfully embraced for the last time. Rotundo had sacrificed his AWA career to protect his friend from a potentially career ending injury. AWA Canadian Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. Nick Bockwinkel A truly epic match full of nasty chops, jarring submission holds and counter wrestling that wound up going to the full 60 minute time limit. The crowd gave both men a standing ovation for their incredible efforts in the ring

AWA results for June 1986
AWA show from the Winnipeg Arena, Winnipeg, June 27th ( as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards ) The Youngbloods vs. The Can-Am Express Both teams went to a double count out while battling at ringside. Once they had calmed down, they shook hands after the match. Masa Saito vs. Hector Guerrero A wild match that ended with Saito pinning Hector with the Saito Suplex Ron Garvin & Chris Adams vs. The British Bullies Garvin knocked out Jones with the Hands Of Stone Punch Sgt. Slaughter & Too Cold Scorpio vs. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers Pretty much a one man show as Sarge took his frustrations out on Somers, annihilating him before clamping on the Cobra Clutch. One again, it took the threat of suspension to get him to release it, and Somers was taken out of the ring on a stretcher AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. Roddy Piper & Bob Orton Piper came to the ring carrying a metal briefcase, which he put on the timekeeper's table at ringside. The champions had taken quite a battering at the hands of Death Sentence and the Sheepherders but still kept their hold on the titles, and kept one step ahead of the challengers for much of the match. Things took a turn for the chaotic when the members of Death Sentence charged out to the ring, looking to interfere, but found themselves intercepted by the Sheepherders, and the two teams proceeded to brawl at ringside. This provided enough of a distraction for both the champs and the ref for Piper to sneak the briefcase into the ring and jam it into the ribs of Paul Diamond. This left him open for Orton to hit him with a back breaker and go for the cover, and the ref turned around just in time to count the one two three. Piper and Orton are the new World Tag Team Champions! After the match, Piper opened up the briefcase and revealed many stacks of money, then closed it and handed it to the Sheepherders while shaking their hands. Piper and the Herders were in cahoots the whole time! It seems the whole war between the Herders and Death Sentence was all part of some nefarious master plan by Piper, and tonight was the pay off, in more ways than one. AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Gran Hamada Tanaka has had a series of classic title defenses of late, and this was another epic match, this time against the Japanese legend Gran Hamada. This went back and forth and had the fans on the edge of their seats, with Hamada looking on several occasions like he would take the title. In the end, Tanaka held out until the 30 minute time limit ran out, leading to a draw. Both men embraced and raised each other's hands post-match as a sign of respect. Ricky Steamboat & Rick Martel vs. Tom Zenk & Kevin Sullivan One one side, a dream team of the AWA champion and the former NWA champion. On the other, the Dark Master of the Neighborhood of Evil and their shining jewel, who was looking for revenge for his only recent singles loss (which Zenk claims "doesn't count" because it took place outside the AWA). Zenk gave a very good accounting of himself against these two superstars of the sport, but it wound up being Sullivan who took the loss when a combination of a running cross body press by Steamboat and a schoolboy trip by Martel put his shoulders to the mat.

AWA results for June 1986
Unfortunately having to yadda yadda through the next few shows to try to get caught up. My sincere apologies. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for June 27th Chris Adams vs. Dave Taylor Adams had Ron Garvin in his corner for this match, while Taylor had Marty Jones and Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie in his. A tight technical match with an edge throughout it that ended when Taylor fell prey to the Superkick. Jones and Kaissie looked like they might try to get some payback after the match, but the presence of Garvin made them think twice about that. The Can-Am Express vs. The Youngbloods A showdown between two of the up and coming teams in the AWA. The fans were really revved up for this match and both teams went to increasingly riskier moves as they tried to get the pinfall in a match that wound up going to the 15 minute time limit. Both teams shook hands after the match, but seemed eager to have a rematch to decide who was truly superior. Larry Zbyszko vs. Mando Guerrero Mando was trying to get one back on Larry after he and his partners took the Six Man Tag Titles from Mando and his brothers. It looked like he might just get it when he had Larry set up for the German Suplex, but Larry countered with a back kick that hit Mando low. While Mando was incapacitated, Larry hit a swinging neckbreaker that got him the pinfall. Dirty pool, but that is what you can expect from the nefarious Larry Z. Cactus Jack vs. Shane Douglas The recent change in attitude by the Snakepit has led to the already wild Cactus Jack becoming completely unhinged. Douglas, who graduated from Dominic Denucci’s wrestling school alongside the former Mick Foley, fought valiantly against the New Mexico madman, but in the end fell prey to a leaping elbow smash to the back of his head. Cactus’ mentor Jake Roberts nodded in approval from ringside. Sgt. Slaughter vs. Buzz Sawyer The members of Piper’s Pit absconded with Leon White of the Cobra Corps and he hasn’t been seen since. Sgt. Slaughter was clearly livid at this and took it out on the “Mad Dog”. He tore Sawyer apart in this match and Buzz couldn’t get a move in, before locking him in the Slaughter Cannon. He kept him trapped in the hold long after the end of the match, and had to be threatened with suspension before he finally released it. Sawyer wound up being taken out on a stretcher. AWA World Title Match : Rick Steamboat © vs. Roddy Piper This was Piper’s first shot at the champion, but he seemed very reluctant to get in the ring and engage with the champ. After a long period of stalling and arguing with the ref, they finally locked up. The match was just starting to get underway, with Steamboat gaining the advantage, when Piper suddenly called in the dogs, namely Bam Bam Bigelow , Bob Orton and Sabu. It had all been a trap to ambush Steamboat, who took a fair amount of damage before Ron Garvin, Chris Adams and Greg Gagne rushed out to send the jackals scattering.

AWA show from the International Ampitheatre, Chicago, June 21st The Sheepherders vs. The Can-Am Express The Sheepherders pinned Lafon after a double stomach breaker Brian Pillman vs. Leo Burke Pillman won with a running cross body press Fit Finlay vs. Bill Dundee Finlay scored the victory with the Rolling Hills Larry Cameron vs. Chris Adams Adams ducked under a Cameron lariat and came back with a Superkick to get the win AWA Southern Tag Title Match : British Steel © vs. The British Bullies Regal made Jones give up to the Regal Stretch AWA Six Man Tag Team Title Match : Nick Bockwinkel, Masa Saito & Larry Zbyszko © vs. The Guerreros Bock pinned Mando after a piledriver AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. Death Sentence The Sheepherders charged in and attacked both sides, leading to a No Contest. The Razor Boys were badly hurt in the attack. AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Buzz Sawyer A ferocious battle where Sawyer had Steamboat lined up for a running bulldog headlock, but Steamboat countered with a belly to back suplex to get the one two three

Just checking in again, in a bit of a push to get caught up before I am on vacation but am optimistic that will get up to posting my holiday shows. I will be cutting posting my Sunday shows (I'll just say they took place but didn't get reported) and should have the other shows up in the next couple of days. I've missed out on the discussion of our new territory but just wanted to mention that, since I had been running Portland shows as part of my regular circuit, I will instead be running shows from Seattle in that part of my run and hope that does not interfere with anything anyone is doing. Welcome to the group, awesomemiz, I am sure you will do amazing things.

AWA results for June 1986
AWA Show from the Mecca, Milwaukee, June 20th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards) Greg Gagne vs. Fit Finlay Finlay won with the belly to belly piledriver Tom Zenk vs. The Great Kabuki Kabuki was going for the thrust kick, but Zenk ducked under it and caught him with a roll up (assisted by a fistful of tights) for the tainted pinfall Mike Rotundo vs. Kevin Sullivan Rotundo pinned Sullivan after the All-Star Rush Nord The Barbarian & Cactus Jack vs. The Youngbloods Cactus hit a Russian Legsweep on Blackman, followed by a running Bombs Away kneedrop by Nord to get the victory for the Snakepit Brian Pillman vs. Doug Somers Pillman won with a top rope flying dropkick Jake Roberts vs. Bill Dundee Roberts finished off Dundee with the DDT AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. The British Bullies When Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie started to interfere in the match, Chris Adams charged out and attacked the Bullies, leading to a DQ finish. The Razor Boys, still having not forgiven Adams for his past attack on Sunshine, left him alone in the ring where he took a lot of punishment from the other three men, until Ronnie Garvin rushed in and sent the Syndicate members flying with the Hands Of Stone Punch. Garvin then helped Adams out of the ring and to the back. AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Bob Orton Before the match started, Ken Patera and Jerry Blackwell attacked Spivey, doing more damage to his injured arm. Before it got to the point where the ref would call the match off, Roddy Piper, Buzz Sawyer and Sabu came out, wielding chairs, and told Patera and Blackwell to step away or face the consequences. Their interest was less in sportsmanship and rather making sure their man Orton got his shot at the title. The badly hurt Spivey put in a valiant effort but had taken too much damage, and Orton wound up hitting the Superplex to give him the American title, bringing the first gold into the hands of Piper’s Pit. AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs Shiro Koshinaka Once again, Tanaka was defending his title against one of the exciting superstars of Japan. What took place was a thrilling bout that ended when Tanaka blocked a German Suplex attempt, then reversed it into a legsweep followed by a single leg grapevine in the middle of the ring that forced Koshinaka to give up the match. AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Sabu Steamboat certainly had his hands full with the out of control Sabu but ultimately was able to catch him in the top rope flying cross body press to successfully defend his title

AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for June 20th Fit Finlay vs. Bradley Kleihege Although they may have recently lost the AWA Southern Tag Team titles, the members of Black Irish are just as dangerous as ever, both individually and as a team. The rookie Kleihege tried to get in some quick offense at the start against the Belfast Brawler, but when he botched a leapfrog by landing on the back of Finlay’s neck, this brought out the rage in the Irishman. Finlay battered the rookie’s face with brutal punches and clobbered him with incredibly hard clotheslines befor finishing him off with a piledriver that dropped Kleihege right on his head. Clearly, Finlay is not somebody to be messed with. The Can-Am Express vs. Nick Bockwinkel & Masa Saito Bock and Saito (along with Larry Z) recently won the Six Man Tag Team Titles from the Guerreros recently, and Larry was with them at rinside, title belt worn prominently around his waist, as they took on the up and coming Can-Am Express . Furnas and Lafon put up a game effort, but in the end, the experience of their opponents turned out to be just too much for them, as Saito was able to make Lafon give up to the Jailhouse Lock. You would have thought that Larry had won the match, all by himself, the way he was crowing after the match. Interview : Ken Resnick stands in the ring Resnick : Ladies and gentlemen , my next guest has a lot to answer for after his most recent actions … Jake “The Snake” Roberts! The crowd explodes into boos as Roberts makes his way to the ring, followed by Nord The Barbarian and Cactus Jack. Cactus starts pacing around the ring while Nord stands impassively behind Roberts. Resnick : Jake Roberts, many people are appalled at your recent attack on young Shane Douglas before your match with him and Bill Dundee last week, giving him the DDT on the concrete. What gives? Roberts : Simply a message, Resnick. Nothing more, nothing less. The Snakepit has been taken for granted lately. There’s been a loss of focus. Losing to Dundee and Douglas was a wake up call for the Snakepit. And now the Snakepit has given our own wakeup call to the AWA. Look past us, and it could be the last mistake you ever make. Resnick : But surely, you should be saving your anger for Roddy Piper and his men, who have been giving you so much trouble for the past while! Roberts : Oh, Piper’s time will come, don’t worry about that. But Piper has taught me a vital lesson. Perhaps I should thank him. I’m not going, but the lesson was learned. I’ve been trying too hard to walk both sides of the path, to compromise. All the while, Piper has just been skating past me, without a care for anyone but himself. Well, the time has come to stop treating my enemies like they were worth saving. Four simple words, Resnick : No More Half Measures. From now on, you will never know where and when the Snakepit will strike. The only warning you will get … will be the realization that it is too late. With that, Roberts swiftly grabbed Ken Resnick … and drilled his head into the mat with a DDT! The crowd member’s mouths hung open in shock as the members of the Snakepit left the unconscious body of Resnick lying in the middle of the ring. AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. Death Sentence The team of Jeff Gaylord and Maxx Payne have been brutalizing their way through the opposition and have torn a path right to a World Tag Title shot. They went right at it, savagely attacking the champs, but Diamond and Perez have faced incredibly tough challenges to their belts, and fought back just as hard. The match was just starting to fully get in gear when the Sheepherders charged to the ring and assaulted both sides, leading to the match being thrown out . All was chaos until AWA security was finally able to clear the ring. Tom Zenk vs. Steve Blackman Zenk has been on an impressive roll ever since turning his back on the Can-Am Express, and brought that momentum into his match with one half of the Youngbloods. Blackman was able to give Zenk a tough challenge, catching him off guard at several points with his martial arts kicks and takedowns into submission holds. But ultimately, Zenk was able to hit the Superkick and put Blackman down for good. After the match, Zenk was pointing at his waist, indicating that he was through with the preliminaries and wanted to challenge for one of the various AWA title belts. The Cobra Corps vs. Buddy Rose, Doug Somers & Col. Debeers This match never got out of the starting blocks. As the Corps were on their way to the ring, they were ambushed from behind by all four members of Playboy After Dark, including Leo Burke, who were wielding chairs. They took out Sarge first, but Debeers really went to town on Leon White, blasting him with several vicious chairshots before driving him hard headfirst into the ring steps. He left White in a mangled heap at ringside and joined the rest of his crew in the ring as they beat down Too Cold Scorpio, but this is where the story took an incredibly bizarre turn. While the four on one attack went on in the ring and Sarge was out of action, Roddy Piper, of all people, came to the ring, with the rest of Piper’s Pit in tow. He ordered Orton, Sawyer and Sabu to pick up the unconscious body of Leon White and drag him to the back with them, and none of them were seen for the rest of the night. What nefarious scheme is Piper up to?

AWA show from the Cow Palace, San Francisco, June 14th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards) Death Sentence vs. The Youngbloods Death Sentence finished off Wellington with the Execution AWA Six Man Tag Team Title Match : The Guerreros © vs. Nick Bockwinkel, Masa Saito and Larry Zybyszko Larry savate kicked Mando into a Saito Suplex to get the win. Bock, Saito and Larry Z are the new AWA Six Man Tag Team Champs. Falls Count Anywhere Match : Sabu vs. Cactus Jack Cactus pulled up the mats from ringside and hit a Russian Legsweep on the concrete for the victory Dan Spivey & Mike Rotundo vs. Ken Patera & Jerry Blackwell Patera pinned Rotundo after a shoulder breaker Bill Dundee & Shane Douglas vs. Jake Roberts & Nord The Barbarian In a shocking turn of events, Roberts and Nord ambushed their opponents before the match and Roberts hit the DDT on Douglas on the exposed concrete at ringside. From there, Dundee put in a valiant effort trying to fight off both men, but it was too much , and Nord hit him with a kneedrop from the top rope to end the match. After the match ended, Roberts hit Dundee with the DDT for good measure. AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : British Steel © vs. Black Irish Cameron was attempting a running power slam on Smiley, but Smiley broke out of it with a slide down his back and caught Cameron with a rollup for the one two three AWA Canadian Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. Marty Jones Garvin won by DQ when he was attacked by David Taylor. Both men shook hands and embraced after the match AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat vs. ?? ?? Steamboat looked determined as he readied himself to face his mystery opponent, while Piper looked like the proverbial cat that ate the canary. He then introduced the challenger … Bam Bam Bigelow! What ensued was a crazy match with Steamboat breaking out every trick in his book to contain the huge Bigelow, until Bigelow headbutted the ref in the face for the DQ. Both men kept fighting long after the match.

AWA results for June 1986
AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for June 13th Col. Debeers vs. Greg Gagne Debeers was coming in with a heavily taped shoulder from an injury he sustained in a match with Sgt. Slaughter in Detroit. The veteran Gagne did everything he could to take advantage of that, wrenching the arm in a series of armwringers and peppering him with dropkicks. His luck ran out when he whipped Debeers into the corner and charged in, only to catch a face full of the Colonel’s boot. Several hard knees to the midsection and a second rope kneedrop, followed by a face first piledriver that dropped him right on his head, and that was the end of Gagne’s challenge. Pat Tanaka & The Razor Boys vs. Tom Zenk & Death Sentence While Tanaka and the Razor Boys have been dominant as Southern champion and World Tag champs, respectively, Zenk and Death Sentence have been presenting strong challenges to those titles. The Neighborhood Of Evil were incredibly aggressive in this match, with a plethora of double and triple teaming. The Sunshine Boys fought back hard, and were rallying when Paul Diamond had Jeff Gaylord trapped in a neutral corner and was standing on the second turnbuckle , raining punches down on his face. However, Tom Zenk took advantage of a ref distraction and grabbed Diamond by the hair and drove him, face first, on the corner post. Gaylord then covered him with his feet on the ropes, getting the one two three. Diamonds partners cried foul, but the decision stood. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers vs. Rocky Mountain Thunder Playboy After Dark have had some tough battles with the various members of the Cobra Corps, but after recent events, seem to be scared to death of big Leon White. They put a lot of effort into keeping him out of the ring, relentlessly double teaming Scorpio and trapping him in their corner. Several times it looked like Scorpio might be able to tag out, only for Rose and Somers to distract the ref or prevent the tag in some other way. White finally had enough and charged into the ring, and when the ref tried to send him out, White backhanded him and sent him flying into the corner. As White pummeled Rose and Somers, the ref eventually recovered enough to call for the DQ, but the former Colorado Buffalo didn’t seem to notice as he tore into the members of Playboy After Dark. It took both Too Cold Scorpio and Sgt. Slaughter to get White calmed down and out of the ring. Bill Dundee & Shane Douglas vs. Jake Roberts & Nord The Barbarian Dundee and Douglas have been gaining momentum of late, picking up some impressive victories over the Guerreros in singles action and even a tag victory over Roberts and Barbarian at a recent house show. The Snakepit, on the other hand, have experienced mounting frustration, not just with the loss to Dundee and Douglas but having failed to get a decisive victory over Piper’s Pit. This was a fast paced and competitive match, with the speed and enthusiasm of Dundee and Douglas providing a tough counter for the guile and power of Snake and Barbarian. After Roberts spent a long time in the ring trying to best his opposition, it looked like they would decisively take the lead when he tagged in the huge Barbarian, but out of nowhere, Dundee hit a running cross body press combined with a schoolboy trip from Douglas that scored the shocking pinfall. While Dundee and Douglas celebrated, Roberts just sat in the corner and stared blankly at Nord. AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : British Steel © vs. The British Bullies The popular young team of Steven Regal and Norman Smiley pulled off an impressive upset last week by taking the Southern Tag straps away from Black Irish. This time, they would be defending against the incredibly tough tandem of David Taylor and Marty Jones, led by Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie. In spite of the considerable technical expertise of the Bullies, British Steel kept the momentum of the match in their favour for a long period of time before some interference by the Sheikh tipped it over to his men. Jones and Taylor than proceeded to start to work over Smiley, but they didn’t have much time to do it before someone charged into the ring and attacked them, leading to a DQ decision. It was Chris Adams, who hadn’t been seen since being beaten down and fired by the Sheikh and his men 2 weeks ago! He tore into his former compatriots, but 3 against 1 would prove to be too great odds to overcome, and British Steel, no fans of Adams, swiftly left the ring and abandoned him to his fate. The Syndicate pounded on him again and the Bullies held him up while the Sheikh looked to take him out for good with a chair shot to the head, but Adams stopped him with a boot to the midsection, then pulled himself free from the grasp of Taylor and Jones. He grabbed the chair and swung it wildly, sending the Syndicate scurrying back to the locker room. Adams was able to make it out this time, but how much longer can he hold out, with no friends to back him up? AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Jerry Blackwell Spivey , similar to Col. Debeers, was going into the match with a heavily taped arm, and that provided a particularly tempting target for the Crusher. Blackwell went after the damaged arm mercilessly with slams and arm bars, and Spivey was clearly in a lot of pain for much of this match. The determined American champ kept battling back, and was able to send Blackwell out of the ring with a left armed Spivey Bomber. Blackwell landed hard and was not able to get back into the ring in time, leading to a countout victory by the champ. Even after the match, Blackwell and his partner, Ken Patera, kept attacking Spivey. Patera held Spivey down with his arm outstretched, and Blackwell looked to do a running splash on it, which might well have done irreparable damage to it. Luckily for Spivey, his partner, Mike Rotundo, rushed to the ring and prevented the blow from landing, but the ordeal had still taken a heavy toll on the American champ.
