  1. AWA show from the Met Center, Bloomington, June 6th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards) Tom Zenk vs. Greg Gagne Zenk won with the Sleeper Hold Leo Burke vs. Brian Pillman Burke won with a belly to back suplex Dan Spivey & Mike Rotundo vs. Jerry Blackwell & Ken Patera Patera pinned Spivey after a shoulder breaker on his damaged right arm The Cobra Corps vs. Buddy Rose, Doug Somers & Col. DeBeers White knocked out Rose with a spinning back fist Death Sentence vs. The Sheepherders A crazy brawl with both teams going to a double DQ AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Naoki Sano An incredible technical match up with Tanaka defending his title against one of the hot rising stars from Japan. Sano had Tanaka set up for a Tiger Suplex, but Tanaka stopped it with a back kick, followed by a rollup for the one two three AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : Black Irish © vs. British Steel Cameron bullied Smiley for much of the match, but this led to him walking into Regal’s Iron Fist Punch, setting him up for a crucifix by Smiley that got the pinfall. British Steel won the AWA Southern Tag Team Titles. AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Buzz Sawyer Sawyer battered Steamboat heavily throughout this match and was going for a German Suplex, but Steamboat reversed it into a Tiger Suplex to succefully defend his title.
  2. One of the many things that I love about my roster is that I have a bunch of guys (Garvin, Taylor, Jones, Burke, Kabuki, Saito, Adams) that have the legit toughness to throw serious leather and can be counted on to provide a trial by fire for the rookies or super stiff matches with each other.
  3. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for June 6th The Great Kabuki vs. Masa Saito Last week, Kabuki got the better of Larry Zbyszko in their match together. This time out, Zbyszko, still clad in his karate gi, was a constant presence at ringside for his partner’s match with Saito. He proceeded to take an interest in Sunshine throughout the match, which proved to be a distraction for Kabuki, something he definitely didn’t need in dealing with a tough competitor like Saito. It got to the point where Kabuki went outside the ring to intercede, but when Larry started jawing with him, this just gave Saito the opportunity to sneak up on him and hit the Saito Suplex on the outside. This led to Saito getting the win by countout. The sinister pair then continued to menace Sunshine, who pulled out her nunchaku to defend herself, but the Razor Boys came out to rescue their manager and stable mate. Leon White vs. Doug Somers The conflict between the Cobra Corps and Playboy After Dark has escalated of late, and both factions were at ringside as the powerful rookie White faced off against the veteran Somers. Somers seemed to take delight in taunting White while dodging out of the way of his blows, taking advantage of his own ring savvy and scouting out White’s moves before he made them. The strong but awkward White kept trying to challenge Somers, but Somers kept slipping out of his grasp as he tormented him. Somers ended up going to the well once to often as he stopped to jeer at Sgt. Slaughter and Too Cold Scorpio over how he was making a fool of their comrade, only for White to grab him by his peroxide blonde hair and pull him into a huge right fist that put him crosseyed. White followed with a wild, flailing spinning backfist that leveled Somers before finishing him off with a crushing power slam. Sarge and Scorpio enthusiastically congratulated their partner on his impressive win, but White didn’t seem to be paying them any mind. Death Sentence vs. Joel Klug & Dirk Been As they came out, Kevin Sullivan declared to the camera that he was tired of playing around, that the Varsity Club were dead and that from now on, the AWA would have to deal with the Neighborhood Of Evil. Klug and Been clearly regretted stepping foot in the Neighborhood as Gaylord and Payne mangled them through out the match , hitting both men with the Execution before Payne force Klug to the Payne Killer while Gaylord trapped Been in a Hangman. Sullivan and his men were clearly satisfied with themselves, but that didn’t last long as the Sheepherders, of all people, charged into the ring and attacked them. Butch and Luke clearly weren’t there to save Been and Klug, as they hurled the youngsters out of the ring before continuing to do battle with Death Sentence until the AWA officials cleared them out of the ring. What exactly are the Sheepherders up to? AWA Canadian Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. David Taylor Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie let it be known last week (shortly before kicking Chris Adams out of the Sinister Syndicate) that he was determined to bring the Canadian Title into the Syndicate’s hands , and didn’t care which member took it. To that end, he has sent one half of the British Bullies, “Squire” David Taylor, out to challenge Ron Garvin, but still had Taylor’s partner Marty Jones by his side during the match. Some incredibly hard chops and shots were thrown in the match, along with some wrenching arm and leg locks by both men, as well as various other submission moves. Taylor was trying to get Garvin set up for the double underhook suplex, but Garvin was able to block it, then reverse it into a backslide to get the one two three. Kaissie glared at Garvin after the match, but nothing more took place. Steven Regal vs. Larry Cameron Speaking of people gunning for titles, British Steel are heating up their campaign to take the Southern Tag Team Titles from Black Irish. For this match, one member of each team would face off in singles action. The popular “Young Gentleman” Regal was taking on a powerful opponent in the former pro football player Cameron, who had yet to be pinned in AWA action. Cameron went full bore against Regal, looking to put a quick end to the challenge of his younger opponent. “Lethal” Larry unleashed his arsenal of mighty slams and power moves, but Regal would keep coming back. He finally whipped Regal into the ropes to polish him off with a huge clothesline, but Regal ducked under at the last second and came back with the Iron Fist Punch, followed by the Regal Roll. One … two … THREE!!!! Cameron couldn’t believe it as Regal was jubilant, celebrating possibly the most impressive win of his career. AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Ken Patera Spivey’s right arm was was wrapped tight in a tension bandage from the damage it had taken last week in his match with Maxx Payne, but true to his reputation as a fighting champion, was determined to honorably defend his title as he had commited. Patera, a former World as well as American champion, relentlessly went after Spivey’s arm, and the champion was clearly in considerable pain for much of the match. Despite this, Spivey kept battling back, and managed to lure Patera into the Big Dan Boot. He followed up with the Big Dan Legdrop, but before he could go for the cover, Jerry Blackwell entered the ring and attacked him, leading to the DQ. Both Patera and Blackwell battered Spivey, focusing their attention on his arm, before Mike Rotundo charged in swinging a chair and ran them off. Spivey still had the title, but at what cost?
  4. Entertaining offers for Buzz Sawyer.
  5. I lost part of my week and have been struggling to get caught up, but should get something posted soon.
  6. Looking forward to seeing what you do with all of this talent.
  7. AWA show from the Canada Games Sportsplex, Lethbridge, Alberta, June 1st Death Sentence vs. The Youngbloods Payne made Wellington give up to the Payne Killer Jake Roberts & Nord The Barbarian vs. The British Bullies Roberts pinned Jones after a DDT British Steel vs. Hector & Mando Guerrero A fast paced match where Regal managed to catch Hector with the Regal Plex to get the win Brian Pillman vs. Leo Burke Burke ducked the Air Pillman then hit a piledriver to score the pinfall Mike Rotundo vs. Chavo Guerrero A back and forth match where Rotundo was able to get the All-Star Spotlight (Samoan drop) to pull out the victory Bill Dundee & Shane Douglas vs. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers Dundee and Douglas put in a valiant effort but Douglas ultimately fell prey to the Inside Out Backbreaker from Rose to give the win to the former World Tag Team champs Nick Bockwinkel, Masa Saito & Larry Zbyszko vs. The Great Kabuki & The Razor Boys Saito pinned Diamond with the Saito Suplex Rocky Mountain Thunder vs. Bob Orton & Buzz Sawyer Piper’s Pit worked over Scorpio for much of the match, but he was able to make the hot tag to White, who was able to pin Sawyer after a power slam AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : Black Irish © vs. The Can-Am Express The Express came close to pulling off the win on a number of times in the match but Black Irish were able to shut down their challenge with a spike piledriver on Lafon AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Tom Zenk Both men went to a 20 minute time limit draw Ricky Steamboat & Ron Garvin vs. Ken Patera & Jerry Blackwell A ferocious battle where Steamboat was finally able to counter an avalanche by Patera in the corner with a schoolboy rollup to just barely get the one two three
  8. Whoah! Big shock in the US title match!
  9. AWA show from the Saddledome, Calgary, May 31st Bill Dundee vs. Mando Guerrero Dundee blocked a German Suplex and pinned Mando with a schoolboy rollup Brian Pillman vs. Leo Burke Pillman won by countout after hitting a top rope clothesline to the outside Col. Debeers vs. Greg Gagne Debeers won with a face first piledriver Mike Rotundo vs. Maxx Payne Rotundo won by DQ after he was attacked by Kevin Sullivan Sabu vs. Cactus Jack Another crazy bout that went to no decision when the match got completely out of control Texas Death Match : The Great Kabuki vs. Jerry Blackwell A bloody battle that had several pinfalls for both men that finally ended when Kabuki hit Blackwell with several vicious kneestrikes to the side of the head, followed by a big roundhouse kick that knocked Blackwell out AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Chavo Guerrero In what a lot of viewers called a classic, Tanaka countered a Gori Special attempt with a sunset flip to get the one two three AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : Black Irish © vs. The Youngbloods The Calgary fans were solidly behind the Youngbloods and it looked like they were close to taking the belts when Blackman caught Cameron in the cross armbreaker, but while the ref was telling Wellington to get out of the ring, Finlay hit Blackman with a running kneedrop, then he and Cameron executed a spike piledriver on Blackman to defend their belts Sgt. Slaughter vs. Bam Bam Bigelow This was a true clash of titans that ended when Buddy Rose came to ringside and distracted the ref, while Col. Debeers snuck in the ring and took down Sarge with a brutal knee shot to the ribs. Bigelow then came off the top rope with the nuclear splash and got the shocking pin on Sarge AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Jeff Gaylord With a lot of shenanigans going on at ringside between the former Varsity Club and the All-Star Squadron, Gaylord kept going after Spivey’s damaged right arm, but Spivey was able to catch him with the Big Dan Boot followed by the Big Dan Legdrop and score the pinfall AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Bob Orton With Roddy Piper observing from ringside, this was another tough match for Steamboat, where Orton had him set up for the superplex, but the champ was able to kick him off then follow up with the top rope flying cross body press to pull out the victory
  10. AWA show from the Winnipeg Arena, Winnipeg, May 30th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards ) The Can-Am Express vs. Chavo & Hector Guerrero Lafon went for a flying back body press on Hector, but Hector reversed it with a rollover and got the one two three Tom Zenk vs. Too Cold Scorpio Zenk put out Scorpio with a Sleeper Hold Steven Regal vs. Fit Finlay What started out as a technical match up ground down into a slugfest where Regal ultimately was able to knock out Finlay with the Iron Fist Punch Shane Douglas vs. Mando Guerrero Douglas won with a German Suplex AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. The Sheepherders A ferocious brawl that ended in a double DQ Ken Patera & Jerry Blackwell vs. Rick Martel & ?? The Syndicate were looking pretty cocky as they clearly felt confident they were more than a match for anyone Martel could bring in. Confidence turned to panic as Martel introduced his partner … Andre the Giant! The NWA Champ and the enormous 8th Wonder Of The World waged a mighty war with Patera & Blackwell which went back and forth, and finally ended when Andre flattened Patera with a lariat, followed by a slingshot splash from Martel to finally get the pinfall. AWA Canadian Title Match with no time limit : Ron Garvin © vs. Chris Adams Adams has come off a series of challenges for various titles in the AWA that have gone to the time limit, so he has demanded the stipulation for this match that the time limit be removed. He was joined at ringside by both his manager, Sheikh Adnan Al Kaissie, and the British Bullies, David Taylor and Marty Jones. Garvin was not intimidated, as he and Adams both seemed ready to go for the long haul. A feeling out process started the match, with technical wrestling and matwork. The two then engaged in a battle of chops to try to soften each other up. As the match went on, the pendulum of momentum swung back and forth, with Adams just barely avoiding the Hands Of Stone Punch and Garvin in turn dodging the Superkick. The match went past the 30 minute mark with both men going at hit full force. Adams got a number of near falls with a series of suplexes, but Garvin was always able to kick out. Adams then tried to put him away with the Superkick , but Garvin countered with a single leg takedown that seemed to particularly hurt Adams ankle. The champ then administered the Garvin Stomp before locking the challenger in the Figure Four leglock. Adams struggled mightily to get to the ropes to break the hold, but fell just short. He seemed like he was going to attempt one last push to try to escape … however, he never got the chance, as Sheikh Kaissie ordered the Bullies into the ring to attack Garvin, forcing him to break the hold. The ref had no choice but to call for the DQ, giving the match to Garvin. Adams was livid , and once he was able to pull himself to his feet, he screamed at Kaissie that he shouldn’t have interfered. Kaissie was adamant, insisting that it was his call to make, he was protecting his investment and if Adams wasn’t going to take the title, he should at least damage Garvin enough so that one of the others of the Syndicate could take it. This led to a shoving match between the two, which was cut off by David Taylor clipping Adam’s damaged leg from behind. Kaissie and the Bullies savagely beat down Adams and, no doubt due to his past behaviour and attitude, nobody came out to save the Englishman until the AWA officials flooded the ring. Adams was taken out of the ring on a stretcher. Cage Match : Jake Roberts vs. Roddy Piper A ferocious battle that led to both men being busted open. Roberts looked like he would finally get the DDT, but Piper blocked it and kicked off into a double leg takedown assisted by the cage, with both his feet on the ropes for leverage ot get the one two three. The cunning Scot had slipped through Roberts’ grasp again. AWA World Title Cage Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Nick Bockwinkel One last classic to close out the night. Bock fought his most aggressive match yet against Steamboat yet, going after his legs to try to get him to submit to the Figure Four. Steamboat was able to battle back and managed to climb all the way up to the top of the cage, then turn around and come off it for a flying cross body press and get the pin. Many observers said this was Steamboat’s most impressive title defense yet.
  11. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for May 30th Larry Zbyszko vs. The Great Kabuki Larry Z has come to fancy himself a black belt of late, wearing a headband and karate gi to the ring. Even though Larry had Masa Saito in his corner, Kabuki didn’t seem particularly impressed by either his moves or his gear. Kabuki laced into Larry with vicious kicks, and after a tentative attempt to match him with his own karate kicks, Larry spent most of the match back pedaling and stalling. He managed to get a momentary advantage a few times by taking some cheap shots, but this ended up drawing him in close enough for a brutal round kick to the head, followed by a piledriver that put an end to the match. After the match, Saito gave Kabuki the hard stare, but Kabuki just gave it right back. Chris Adams vs. Biff Wellington This would be the last stop for Adams before his big challenge for Ron Garvin’s AWA Canadian Title. Last week, Adams faced one half of the Youngbloods in Steve Blackman, and now he would take on Blackman’s partner Wellington. This wound up being a tight technical match up, with a lot of matwork and suplex attempts. It was ultimately a belly to back suplex by Adams that wound up giving him the one two three. After the match, Adams shook hands with Wellington. An impressive win, but Adams has a tough challenge ahead of him in trying to take the Canadian championship from Garvin. Leo Burke vs. Brian Pillman Pillman has had a lot of strong victories ever since leaving the Varsity Club, but the veteran Burke would prove to be no pushover. Burke skillfully avoided being drawn into Pillman’s fast paced offense, instead catching the fomer Bengal in several submission holds to try to break down the youngster. Pillman kept fighting out of it, blasting Burke with several hard chops, but Burke would not be held back for long. Burke came very close on a number of occasions to locking Pillman in the Sleeper hold, and while Pillman was always able to break out, it would take a lot out of him. The two were still slugging it out in the corner when the bell rang, signaling a 15 minute time limit draw, but the two kept at it for a while afterwards. Sgt. Slaughter & Rocky Mountain Thunder vs. Buddy Rose, Doug Somers & Col. Debeers The deep well of hatred between the Cobra Corps and Playboy After Dark, specifically Sgt. Slaughter and Col. Debeers, exploded into a pretty crazy six man tag team match. Buddy Rose’s crew spent much of their time working over Too Cold Scorpio, the junior member of the Corps, and it looked like they just might put him away at several points, but Scorpio proved incredibly resilient, and eventually was able to roll into his corner for the hot tag. Sarge and Leon then took over the match, with White whipping Somers into a Slaughter Cannon to give the victory to the Corps. Debeers clearly wanted to go after Sarge post-match, but Rose convinced him that there would be a better time. AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Maxx Payne While Spivey has been dominant since winning the American Title, but faced a stern test in his former Varsity Club stablemate. The huge Payne was coming off a Japanese tour with his Death Sentence partner Jeff Gaylord, and seemed to have developed an even sharper edge to his brutal array of suplexes and submission holds. Payne mercilessly worked over Spivey’s right arm, looking to both take away the Spivey Bomber and soften him up for the Payne Killer. Spivey kept battling back but Payne was relentless in going after his right arm. Spivey was able to stagger Payne with a Big Dan Boot, following it up with a left armed Spivey Bomber, but Payne got up his forearms and blocked it. Spivey then followed up with a Spivey Bomber from his damaged right arm and, even though that took a lot out of him, he was able to get the one two three. Spivey was clearly in a lot of pain from his right arm after the match. NWA World Title Match : Rick Martel © vs. Ken Patera Martel, a long time favorite of the AWA fans, has been having a series of spectacular matches defending the NWA title all over the world. He certainly had his hands full as he took on the former AWA World champ. This proved to be an exciting battle, with Martel’s skill and speed evenly matched by Patera’s power and viciousness. Martel was in the middle of rallying against the tough Patera, staggering him with several dropkicks, when Jerry Blackwell charged into the ring and attacked him, leading to a DQ decision. Blackwell and Patera double teamed Martel until he was able to grab a chair from ringside and fend them off. Martel then got on the ringside mic and dared Patera and Blackwell to face him in a tag match in Winnipeg with the partner of his choice, a challenge that the Syndicate readily accepted.
  12. Love what you are doing with Gama Singh and looking forward to the rematch with TNT.
  13. A night of intense time limit draws. Betting the ring got torn up by Tonga after the suspension.
  14. Tanaka will be facing some pretty exciting challengers in June.
  15. Jeeze, buddy, very sorry to read this. Hope for a swift recovery.
  16. AWA show at Boylan High School, Rockford, IL , May 25th The Can-Am Express vs. The British Bullies The Express pinned Jones after a double dropkick Tom Zenk vs. Paul Diamond Diamond hit a flying back body press, but Zenk reversed it with a fistful of tights for the win Jake Roberts, Nord The Barbarian & Cactus Jack vs. Roddy Piper, Buzz Sawyer & Sabu Cactus was going for a Russian Legsweep on Piper, but Sabu roundhouse kicked him in the back of the head and Piper got the pinfall The Youngbloods vs. Mando & Hector Guerrero In a match of dueling attempted suplexes, Hector managed to get Wellington with the double underhook suplex and secure the win Brian Pillman vs. Leo Burke This was a very hotly contested bout where Burke nearly locked Pillman in the Sleeper hold, but Pillman was able to block it and catch Burke in a crucifix for the one two three Masa Saito vs. The Great Kabuki Saito cut off the thrust kick with a legsweep and followed up with the Saito Suplex to get the victory over Kabuki Sgt. Slaughter vs. Buddy Rose Sarge won by DQ after he was attacked by Col. Debeers Bob Orton vs. Leon White White fought off attempts to set him up for a Superplex and managed to hit an Avalanche in the corner to score the win. Piper was in Orton’s corner during the match, observing AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : Black Irish © vs. British Steel Both teams went to a 20 minute time limit draw AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Shane Douglas Tanaka ducked under a running cross body press, then followed up with a crescent kick to the side of the head to defend his title Rick Steamboat & Ron Garvin vs. Nick Bockwinkel & Chris Adams Ron Garvin went for a sunset flip on Adams, but Adams reversed it for the one two three
  17. Mask Confusion! I think that would have been an awesome main.
  18. AWA show from the International Amphitheater, Chicago, May 24th Chris Adams vs. Biff Wellington Adams won with a superkick Brian Pillman vs. Doug Somers Pillman pinned Somers after the Air Pillman The Great Kabuki vs. Larry Zbyszko Kabuki ducked a roundhouse kick and followed up with his own thrust kick to the jaw for the win Rocky Mountain Thunder vs. Bob Orton & Buzz Sawyer White was going for a power slam on Sawyer, but Orton hit him in the head with a blackjack and Sawyer fell on top of him for the pinfall AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Tom Zenk Both men went to a 20 minute time limit draw AWA Six Man Tag Team Title Match : The Guerreros © vs. Ron Garvin, Bill Dundee & Shane Douglas Mando caught Dundee with a German suplex to defend their belt AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. Ken Patera & Jerry Blackwell An intense match that the champs won by DQ when Patera slugged the ref AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Kevin Sullivan Sullivan bloodied Spivey with the Golden Spike, but Spivey rallied and got the win with the Spivey Bomber
  19. Thanks so much. Corrected now.
  20. AWA show from the Mecca, Milwaukee, May 23rd (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards) Leo Burke & Doug Somers vs. The Can-Am Express Furnas pinned Burke after a powerslam Mando & Hector Guerrero vs. Bill Dundee & Shane Douglas Dundee and Douglas pinned Hector after a running cross body press / schoolboy trip combination Falls Count Anywhere Match : Sabu vs. Cactus Jack Sabu beat Cactus after a diving legdrop on the concrete floor Mike Rotundo & Dan Spivey vs. Bob Orton & Buzz Sawyer A hard hitting match where Buzz was going for a bulldog on Rotundo but was intercepted by a Spivey Bomber to give the victory to the All-Star Squadron Brian Pillman vs. Tom Zenk Pillman was going for the Air Pillman, but Kevin Sullivan tripped him off the ropes, and Zenk pinned Pillman with his feet on the ropes AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : Black Irish © vs. British Steel Both teams went to a 20 minute time limit draw Roddy Piper vs. Jake Roberts Piper blocked a DDT attempt with a low blow, followed by a belly to back suplex for the pinfall AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Nick Bockwinkel Another epic match where Bock tried to finish him off with a piledriver, but Steamboat dug in and prevented it, then reversed with a schoolboy roll up for the victory. After the match, it was announced that these two would face each other in a cage match in Winnipeg
  21. Great show and really looking forward to July 5th, especially Invaders vs. Pastores.
  22. Armand Rougeau : he will be missed.
  23. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN , May 23rd Chris Adams vs. Steve Blackman With Adams set on taking the Canadian title from Ron Garvin, he was looking to show he was worthy of the shot by taking on Garvin’s protégé, the powerful young black belt Steve Blackman. This worked out to a martial arts showdown with Adams’ Judo expertise clashing with Blackman’s Tae Kwon Do skills. The match kept the fans on the edge of their seats until Blackman’s attempts to hit an arm takedown were countered by a series of suplexes by Adams, finishing with a belly to back suplex for the three count. Adams shook Blackman’s hand after the match, but time will tell how he will ultimately fare against the double tough Garvin. Death Sentence vs. The All-Star Squadron Since leaving the Varsity Club, Mike Rotundo and Dan Spivey have banded together with Brian Pillman to form a new unit called the All-Star Squadron, and they have impressed a lot of people on recent house shows. Kevin Sullivan has sent his personal goon squad Death Sentence out to get revenge on his former colleagues, and they were clearly set on doing some damage. With Pillman at ringside, Rotundo and Spivey fought hard against their huge opponents, but Payne and Gaylord kept coming at them. Sullivan sought to tip the balance by tossing in the Golden Spike, but found him tackled to the floor by Pillman. Gaylord was still able to pick up the Spike, but was sufficiently delayed for Spivey to nail him with the Spivey Bomber and get the one two three. Both factions continued brawling after the final result, and we are clearly not done with this feud by a long ways. Chavo Guerrero vs. Shane Douglas After an intial loss to Chavo and a time limit draw with Hector, young Shane Douglas has managed a bit of a winning streak on All-Star Wrestling against the Guerrero Brothers. Chavo was obviously quite determined to make sure it didn’t go any further, wrenching him hard with several tough submission holds and suplexes to try to break him down. Douglas showed real fire and determination as he kept rallying back and, with the encouragement of his mentor Bill Dundee, held the advantage over Chavo at several points in the match. Still, the experience of Chavo kept bringing control of the match back into his hands and he looked about to cinch in the match when he got Douglas set up for the Gory Special. Douglas was able to block it, though, and even reverse it into a sunset flip. One … two … three!!!! Douglas had managed a sweep of all three Guerreros and he and Dundee celebrated at ringside with the fans. Col. Debeers vs. Too Cold Scorpio The secret weapon of Playboy After Dark continued their war with the Cobra Corps by taking on one half of Rocky Mountain Thunder. This was a battle of the size and power of Debeers against the speed and agility of Scorpio. Scorpio seemed overwhelmed for much of the match, with his attempts at taking Debeers off his feet swiftly getting shut down. Still, he was able to stagger the Special Forces officer and went up top to try for a high impact move. This was not to be, as he wound up being shoved off the top turnbuckle by Buddy Rose, taking advantage of the ref being distracted. Debeers followed up with a nasty face first piledriver to put Scorpio away. He was able to prevail over one of the junior members of the Cobra Corps, but the big Sarge will prove to be a different matter. AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Brian Pillman Tanaka has been on a run of outstanding technical matches in his defense of the Southern Title, and this match was shaping up to be the same against the popular rookie Pillman. Unfortunately, after a duel of fast paced high flying moves, both men ended up colliding and falling to the outside. As they struggled to get to their feet, Tom Zenk snuck down to ringside and hit a superkick on Pillman before scurrying back to the locker room. Tanaka was able to make it back to the ring in time and got the win by countout. When his manager Sunshine explained to him was happened, Tanaka was furious. He then helped Pillman to his feet and promised him a rematch. Ricky Steamboat & Ron Garvin vs. Nick Bockwinkel & Masa Saito The World Champion and Canadian Champion have become a formidable alliance of late, but would have to deal with the incredibly tough duo of Bockwinkel and Saito. With Bock having his own aims at Steamboat’s World Title, the two waged a ferocious assault on the fan favorites, eventually throwing the rulebook out the window when Larry Zbyszko charged into the ring and joined in attacking Steamboat, leading to a DQ. They looked intent on doing real damage to Steamboat, but Garvin waded in to the rescue, which only caused them to focus their attention on destroying Steamboat’s closest ally. They had Garvin set up for a double spike piledriver, but who should come charging in but Chris Adams, who sent Bock’s crew scattering with Superkicks. Garvin pulled himself to his feet, confused by this unlikely source of support, but Adams let his motives be known when he pointed at Garvin, then pointed at himself. Nobody was going to get to beat Garvin but him, and he didn’t want Garvin to have any excuses when he defended his Canadian Title against Adams.
  24. I actually like Greg, but at this point in my circuit, he is filling a role on the babyface side that Leo Burke does with the heels : the veteran trainer who goes out to give a good match with less experienced wrestlers and put them over.
  25. AWA show from the CU Events/Conference Center, Boulder, May 18th Sabu vs. Cactus Jack Cactus won by DQ after interference by Roddy Piper The Can-Am Express vs. The Youngbloods The Can-Ams won after a dropkick-Cobra Clutch Suplex combo on Wellington Ken Patera vs. Bill Dundee A stiff match with Patera finally taking the win with a shoulder breaker Tom Zenk vs. Greg Gagne Zenk reversed a schoolboy rollup with a fistful of tights to get the pinfall The Great Kabuki vs. Leo Burke Kabuki won with a thrust kick to the jaw Chavo Guerrero vs. Shane Douglas Douglas put in a valiant effort but went down to a top rope somersault senton The All Star Squadron vs. Kevin Sullivan & Death Sentence Pillman pinned Sully after a top rope sunset flip Jake Roberts vs. Roddy Piper Piper pinned Roberts with a double leg takedown with his feet on the ropes Rocky Mountain Thunder vs. Mando & Hector Guerrero Hector was going for a running cross body press on White, but was caught and White countered with a powerslam for the victory. The crowd was going crazy for both Colorado native Scorpio and former Colorado Buffalo White AWA Canadian Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. Buzz Sawyer A knock down, drag out fight that ended with Garvin piledriving Sawyer to defend his title AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Larry Zbyszko Both men went to a 20 minute time limit draw AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Bob Orton Steamboat fought out of a superplex attempt, knocked Orton off the turnbuckle then hit a top rope flying cross body press to get the one two three
