  1. AWA show from the Winnipeg Arena, Winnipeg, August 30th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards ) British Steel vs. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers Regal knocked out Somers with the Iron Fist Punch The Great Kabuki vs. Cpl. Scott Hall Kabuki got the win with the Thrust Kick to the jaw of Hall Tony Atlas vs. Wahoo McDaniel In an epic battle, Atlas was finally able to get the win over Wahoo after a lariat AWA American Title Match : Lex Luger © vs. Nick Bockwinkel Both men went to a 30 minute time limit draw AWA Southern Tag Team Title match : Badd Company © vs. The Onyx Express In an incredibly close match, Koko was setting up Tanaka for a Brainbuster when Diamond Superkicked him from behind, leading to Tanaka getting the pinfall for the win AWA Canadian Title match : Rick Martel © vs. Kendo Nagasaki Kendo tried to hit the Thrust Kick on Martel, but Martel dodged it and rolled up Kendo for the victory AWA World Title No DQ Cage match : Paul Orndorff © vs. Don Muraco Deep in the match, Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie threw a chair over the top into the cage for Muraco to use, but Orndorff grabbed it out of Muraco’s hands and hit him in the head with it. He then gave the piledriver to Muraco on the chair and looked like he was going to do a second one on the chair but instead went for the cover and pinned Muraco, putting an end to his title challenge once and for all.
  2. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for August 30th Jesse Barr vs. Jerry Bryant Jesse Barr has made his intentions clear since arriving in the AWA that he is gunning for the Southern Title, currently held by Al Perez, and doesn’t seem to care who he has to go through to get at it. Facing off against one half of Memphis Vice, Barr proceeded to batter Bryant from pillar to post, not letting the popular tag wrestler get more than the odd move in before power slamming him for a decisive pin. Clearly the Colonel’s latest recruit is not letting anyone stand in his way in his quest for the belt. Buddy Rose vs. Norman Smiley Buddy Rose has been on the comeback trail since his feud with Nick Bockwinkel, but Smiley would surprisingly turn out to be his stiffest challenge yet. The technically gifted rookie had the Playboy stymied at every turn, even coming close to cinching in the Norman Conquest before Rose got to the ropes and broke up the attempt. It took a particularly nasty cheap shot by Rose to set up the Inside Out Backbreaker to get the win. Rose was sufficiently incensed by the young upstart that he was about to give him another backbreaker after the bell until the ref intervened. AWA Six-Man Title Match : Mike Shaw, Dave Schultz & Buzz Sawyer © vs. Al Perez & Badd Company (with Sunshine) In several past matches between these two factions, the pattern has been that of Col. Robley’s men targeting Perez to try to soften him up for a challenger for his Southern Title. With this match, though, it seems like Perez has had enough of their crap and is fighting fire with fire. He kept his focus on, of all people, “The Tank” Mike Shaw, relentlessly battering his arm with big blows and scissor holds while Badd Company kept Shaw’s partners out of the ring. He kept up this assault until he got Shaw down in his own corner and trapped him with the Japanese Armlock (wakigatame), intensely grinding the hold in while Badd Company held off Sawyer and Schultz until Shaw was forced to give up. The crowd was stunned but soon exploded in cheers as Sunshine’s men each held up two belts in what was a truly shocking result. Sgt. Slaughter vs. Killer Khan Chaos. This match was pure chaos, with the huge new arrival for the Sinister Syndicate furiously brawling with the leader of the Cobra Corps. The ref pretty much gave up on maintaining any sort of control over the match, just letting them slug it out until they ended up outside the ring and kept at it until they were both counted out. Things got worse after the match with King Kong Bundy and “Crusher” Blackwell got involved, and it took a long time for the AWA officials to get the situation untangled. The Onyx Express vs. Ricky Steamboat & Paul Orndorff Steamboat has had his problems with the members of the Onyx Express in recent house show matches, so he brought in some impressive backup in the form of his good friend, the World Champion Paul Orndorff. Brickhouse and Koko spent much of their time attacking the neck of Orndorff, wanting to set him up for the Spike Brainbuster. They showed how well they had mastered their tag team skills by frequently drawing Steamboat into the match, then relentlessly double teamed Orndorff as the referee shooed Steamboat out of the ring. Orndorff finally was able to manage a comeback when he dodged a double clothesline attempt by the Express and then fired back with his own double clothesline that flattened both members of the Express. Rather than tag in Steamboat, Orndorff hit Brickhouse with two crushing powerslams before setting him up for the Piledriver. This was the cue for Tony Atlas to charge into the ring and attack Orndorff. While the Onyx Express held off Steamboat, Atlas hit his own powerslam on Orndorff before locking the champ in the Full Nelson for an excruciatingly long time, finally being forced to release it and head back to the locker room by a threat of suspension from the AWA officials. Orndorff now has a deadly new challenger for his belt, who has made his claim in devastating fashion.
  3. Cromulent A word meaning valid or acceptable, coined by David X. Cohen for theSimpsons episode "Lisa the Iconoclast".
  4. Seems perfectly cromulent to me, all good.
  5. AWA show from the International Amphitheater, Chicago, August 24th British Steel vs. Rick Steiner & Dan Spivey Regal knocked out Steiner with the Iron Fist Punch Tony Atlas vs. Da Crusher Atlas pinned Crusher with a running splash Curt Hennig vs. Ed Wiskowski Hennig got the win with a cradle suplex AWA Southern Title match : Al Perez © vs. Mike Shaw Perez made Shaw give up to the Japanese Armlock AWA Southern Tag Title match : Badd Company © vs. Kendo Nagasaki & The Great Kabuki Badd Company won by DQ when Kabuki sprayed Tanaka with the Green Mist AWA American Title match : Lex Luger © vs. Greg Gagne Luger forced Gagne to surrender to the Human Torture Rack AWA World Title match : Paul Orndorff © vs. Don Muraco Orndorff hit the Piledriver on Muraco to successfully defend his title
  6. AWA show from the Mecca, Milwaukee, August 23rd (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards ) Buddy Rose & Doug Somers vs. Memphis Vice Rose pinned Winston after the Inside Out Backbreaker Ricky Steamboat vs. Brickhouse Brown Steamboat won by DQ after he was attacked by Koko Ware. After the decision, both members of Onyx Express beat down Steamboat until Paul Orndorff rushed to the ring to run them off Da Crusher vs. Bob Roop Crusher got the win after hitting a running Bolo Punch Sgt. Slaughter & King Kong Bundy vs. Killer Khan & Jerry Blackwell Both men went to a double countout while brawling at ringside Al Perez & Badd Company vs. Buzz Sawyer, Dave Schultz & Jesse Barr Perez forced Schultz to surrender to the Japanese Armlock (wakigatame) AWA World Tag Title Falls Count Anywhere match : The British Bulldogs © vs. The Moondogs Davey Boy Smith got the victory when he power slammed Rex on the concrete floor Paul Orndorff & Nick Bockwinkel vs. Don Muraco & Lex Luger Bockwinkel blocked a Human Torture Rack attempt by Luger, then countered with a sunset flip that got the win
  7. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for August 13th Cpl. Scott Hall vs. Jerry Blackwell Before he left the AWA, “Crusher” Jerry Blackwell had the fans solidly in his corner, but since his return he has cared about the opinon of nobody except Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie . “Crusher” ruthlessly went after the knee of the powerful young recruit of the Cobra Corps, bowling over Hall and getting him in several painful leglocks. Hall tried to fight back, but the damage done to his knee undercut his attempts at power moves, ultimately collapsing then trying to power slam the huge Blackwell. Blackwell followed up with a running splash to get a victory for the Sinister Syndicate. Buddy Rose vs. Wahoo McDaniel “Playboy” Buddy Rose has had some difficulty gaining momentum since losing the Southern title to Al Perez, and certainly was facing stiff competition tonight in the person of Wahoo McDaniel. The double tough veteran really took it to Rose, blasting him with brutal chops and kicks as well as twisting his limbs every which way. Rose tried to rally against this withering offense, but his efforts were swiftly shut down by Wahoo. Wahoo had him trapped in the corner and was blistering him with chops, but when the ref tried to separate the two, Rose took advantage by taking the padding off the turnbuckle. When Wahoo came back with an overhand chop, Rose dodged out of the way and Wahoo brought his hand down hard on the exposed turnbuckle bolt. While Wahoo winced in pain, Rose swept him off his feet and put his own feet on the ropes to get the leveraged pin. Da Crusher vs. Dan Spivey This was a show down of the unconventional brawling of Da Crusher and the impressive power offense of Spivey. The battle waged back and forth, with first one man gaining the advantage then the other one fighting back to have the upper hand. It looked like Crusher was starting to pull ahead with a series of clubbing punches, but when he came rushing in for the Bolo Punch, Spivey got his boot up just in time. Crusher was staggerd, and Spivey took him down with a lariat, following up with a big running leg drop to get the win. Nick Bockwinkel vs. Bob Roop After a lengthy way with Playboy After Dark, Bockwinkel seems to have set his sights on challenging the Sinister Syndicate. Facing off against the enforcer of the Syndicate, Nick and Roop has a breathtaking technical showdown that really got the fans attention. In a match that mostly took place with both men working the mat in the proverbial case of Human Chess, they exchanged leglocks and limb work to try to soften each other up to try and move in for kill. Ultimately , it was Bockwinkel who was able to finally trap Roop in the Figure Four and force him to submit. An impressive victory for Bockwinkel, who looks like he is intending to work his way up the Syndicates chain to challenge for Lex Luger’s American title. AWA Southern Tag Team Title match : Badd Company © vs. Buzz Sawyer & Dave Schultz Another exciting match that pitted the high speed, high flying offense of the champions against the rough and tumble style of Col. Robley’s Army. Sawyer and Schultz were clearly out to inflict some punishment on Sunshine’s men, but Tanaka and Diamond gave as good as they got, showing why they are the champs. Badd Company had Sawyer set up for Tanaka to thrust kick him into a Diamond suplex, but Jesse Barr had rushed out to the ring by this point and yanked down the top rope, causing Tanaka to plummet to the outside. The Army proceeded to beat down the champs until Al Perez charged out to even the sides, forcing a retreat on the part of the Colonel’s soldiers. AWA World Title match : Paul Orndorff © vs. Rick Steiner Orndorff has ducked no challengers in defense of the AWA World Title, and he certainly had his hands full with the powerful rookie Steiner. The University of Michigan letterman brought a wealth of amateur skill to the battle and matched Orndorff suplex for suplex and power move for power move. On a couple of occasions, it looked like Fallen Angel was going to interfere in the match, but then Kevin Sullivan would say something in her ear and she would hold back, as though he had given her the order to stand down while he observed the match. Steiner was trying to get Orndorff in a belly to back suplex, but Orndorff reversed the waistlock and whipped him into the ropes to catch him in a mighty power slam. One piledriver later and Orndorff had successfully defended his title. Steiner had lost but Sullivan escorted him from the ring with an oddly thoughtful look on his face.
  8. AWA show at the Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, August 17th Jesse Barr vs. Jerry Bryant Barr won with the bulldog headlock Mike Rotundo vs. Pvt. Mick Foley Rotundo pinned Foley with the Varsity Rush Sgt. Slaughter & King Kong Bundy vs. The Great Kabuki & Kendo Nagasaki Sarge and Bundy won by DQ when the Syndicate both sprayed him with the green mist AWA Southern Title match : Al Perez © vs. Ed Wiskowski Perez successfully defended his belt by catching Wiskowski with the German Suplex AWA American Title match : Lex Luger © vs. Curt Hennig Luger pinned Hennig after hitting a running forearm smash to the head following interference by Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie AWA Southern Tag Title match : Badd Company © vs. The Moondogs In a crazy match, Badd Company finally took out Spot with a double thrust kick AWA World Title 2/3 falls match : Paul Orndorff © vs. Buddy Rose In a lengthy, epic match that had the fans riveted throughout, Orndorff got the first fall when he came back after Rose thought he had thrown him out of the ring and flattened Rose with a lariat ; Rose came back to take the second fall with a low blow followed by a pull of the tights ; Orndorff finally took the last fall when Rose went for the Inside Out Back breaker and Orndorff countered with a roll up assisted by his own grab of Rose’s tights. Orndorff retained the World Title.
  9. Wow, lots of big moves at Heatwave. Definitely keeping the territory fresh and exciting.
  10. AWA show from the Cow Palace, San Francisco, August 16th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards) British Steel vs. Rick Steiner & Dan Spivey Smiley countered a side suplex attempt by Steiner with a butterfly suplex to get the win. After the match, Fallen Angel and the Varsity Club attacked Smiley with the Golden Spike Tony Atlas vs. Wahoo McDaniel Atlas beat Wahoo with a power slam Koko Ware vs. Ricky Steamboat Steamboat won by DQ when Brickhouse Brown knocked him off the top turnbuckle “Crusher” Jerry Blackwell vs. Pvt. Mick Foley Blackwell pinned Foley after hitting a running splash AWA World Tag Title match : The British Bulldogs © vs. Leo Burke & Doug Somers Dynamite Kid defeated Burke with a flying headbutt Nick Bockwinkel vs. Buddy Rose Both men went to a 30 minute time limit draw AWA World Title match : Paul Orndorff © vs. Don Muraco Orndorff successfully defended his title by getting the pinfall with a belly to back suplex
  11. Latest news out of the AWA locker room : It didn't take long for Tojo Yamamoto's arrival in the AWA to stir up drama. Tojo had been specifically brought in to help with the training of the AWA's considerable stable of rookies, joining a training team that now consisted of himself , Kendo Nagasaki, Leo Burke and Bob Roop. Up until this point, a considerable push had been given to Rick Steiner, the favorite of Burke and Roop, but Tojo, with the support of Kendo, has argued in favor of British Steel and Badd Company, and the company has gotten behind them. Al Perez, perhaps sensing a change in the weather, has asked to have matches allying himself with Badd Company, which has angered Burke, who had previously been in his corner. Perez has really gotten the fans behind him in a big way, which gives him some protection from the ire of Burke. Steiner has recently been overheard grumbling about his loss of status, which may mean he is not long for the AWA.
  12. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for August 16th The Great Kabuki, Kendo Nagasaki & Killer Khan vs. Ryan Opray, Ryan Shoulders & Osten Taylor After his shocking return to the AWA at the Bloomington show, Killer Khan (along with his Sinister Syndicate cohorts and joined by Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie and Tojo Yamamoto) showed his dominance as his team tore through the trio of young rookies. Opray, Shoulders and Taylor never stood a chance as the Syndicate dissected them until Kabuki and Kendo hit a double thrust kick on Shoulders to put them out of their misery. This, however, was not enough for Kaissie, who had Khan put Taylor in the Oriental Chokehold until the ref ordered him to let it go with a threat of suspension. The arms race between the Syndicate and the Cobra Corps has clearly reached terrifying new heights. Memphis Vice vs. The Onyx Express It seems like only yesterday that Memphis Vice put on an impressive winning streak against the team now known as the Onyx Express, but Brickhouse and Koko are clearly determined to turn that into a distant memory. Now that they are under the tutelage of Tony Atlas, the Onyx Express have taken no prisoners in their matches and Bryant and Winston were now paying the price for that change of attitude. Every time Memphis Vice tried to rally, the Express shut it down brutally with a cheap shot or a nasty double team before finally putting the match to an end by hitting the Spike Brainbuster on both men in quick succession. There was a time when it seemed like Koko and Brickhouse were becoming something of a joke, but who is laughing now? Leo Burke vs. Curt Hennig Hennig had come to the attention of Playboy After Dark during their feud with Nick Bockwinkel, and they clearly still bear a grudge, as they have send Canada’s Toughest Man against him. Burke really made Hennig pay some dues, pounding him with heavy punches and stretching him with painful wear down holds, but the second generation favorite just kept coming back. Little by little , Hennig took control of the match, and when Burke desperately tried to shut it down by trapping him in the Sleeper, Hennig broke out of it with some powerful elbows to the midsection. Hennig then followed it up with the Cradle Suplex to get the pin. AWA Southern Title match : Al Perez © vs. Mike Shaw Col. Buck Robley’s Army has been gunning for Perez’s Southern Title lately, and now they have brought in their biggest gun, “The Tank” Mike Shaw. Shaw looked to use his incredible size and power to overwhelm Perez, but the canny “Latin Heartthrob” used his speed and technical knowhow to work his way out of a lot of tight spots. He used several armlocks to try to take the power slam out of the occasion, and kept sticking and moving to keep himself out of danger. Shaw eventually took the action to the outside and tried to hit a running splash, but Perez rolled out of the way just in time and was able to make it back into the ring while Shaw was staggered. Perez got the victory by count out , but the Army wasn’t done coming after him by a long shot. AWA World Tag Title match : The British Bulldogs © vs. The Moondogs It was a real dogfight (tee hee) as the champs pitted their high impact, high speed offense against the crazy brawling of the Moondogs. Although the Bulldogs impressed the fans with their spectacular moves, the Moondogs just kept coming at them like something out of a horror movie. Eventually, Rex brought the ring bell into the ring and hit Davey Boy with it, leading to the ref to declare the match a DQ win for the champions. All four men kept slugging it out long after the ref called the match.
  13. AWA show from Cobo Hall, Detroit, August 10th Jesse Barr vs. Jerry Bryant Barr won with the Bulldog British Steel vs. The Moondogs Smiley made Spot submit to the Norman Conquest Tony Atlas vs. Lou Winston Atlas forced Winston to give up to the Full Nelson Greg Gagne vs. The Great Kabuki Kabuki pinned Gagne after hitting a thrust kick to the jaw Ricky Steamboat vs. Mike Rotundo Steamboat won with the Flying Cross Body Press Buddy Rose vs. Wahoo McDaniel Rose pinned McDaniel after the Inside Out Back Breaker AWA Southern Tag Title match : Badd Company © vs. The Onyx Express Both teams went to a double countout AWA Southern Title match : Al Perez © vs. Dave Schultz Schultz was going for a piledriver, but Perez countered with a slingshot into the turnbuckle followed by a rollup for the win
  14. Oh, no worries, was not taking offense. Just mentioning I am a bit ahead of real life in my booking
  15. Wahoo was actually working heel around this time period IRL. I admit I am using the heel Tony Atlas angle several years ahead of when it actually happened, but that was the role that most interested me when I picked him up (he did actually do a couple of baby face guest appearances for me from WWA in the early days of the project).
  16. I've been trying to put across Atlas as a runaway train. Wahoo was too tough to be forced to surrender but in the end , just couldn't stop Atlas' momentum.
  17. AWA show from the Met Center, Bloomington, August 9th (As shown on ESPN/TSN Super Cards) Memphis Vice vs. Onyx Express Onyx Express pinned Lou Winston after a spike brainbuster Buddy Rose vs. Norman Smiley Rose won with the Inside Out Backbreaker Leo Burke vs. Curt Hennig Hennig got the victory with the Ax Lariat Da Crusher vs. Dan Spivey Spivey got the win after a running leg drop Nick Bockwinkel vs. Bob Roop Bockwinkel made Roop give up to a figure four leg lock AWA Southern Title match : Al Perez © vs. Buzz Sawyer Sawyer was going for a German Suplex when Perez countered with a roll up to successfully defend his title Cobra Corps ( Sgt. Slaughter, Cpl. Scott Hall, Pvt. Mick Foley & “Special Forces” King Kong Bundy) vs. The Sinister Syndicate ( Kendo Nagasaki, The Great Kabuki, Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie & Tojo Yamamoto) Sarge was about to lock Kaissie in the Cobra Clutch when two men charged the ring and attacked him and Bundy. It was Killer Khan and Crusher Blackwell! Khan locked Sarge in the Oriental Chokehold while Blackwell gave a running splash to Bundy while the rest of the Syndicate piled on Foley and Hall until the AWA officials intervened AWA World Title match : Paul Orndorff © vs. Don Muraco Orndorff worked over Muraco’s legs for much of the match. Muraco was going for a piledriver on Orndorff when his leg gave out and Orndorff was able to get the cover with his feet on the ropes to get the win.
  18. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN , August 9th Jesse Barr vs. Daniel Lue Things have been a bit quiet of late from Buck Robley’s army, but the Colonel certainly brought in an impressive new recruit in tough Jesse Barr. Young pup Daniel Lue didn’t stand a chance as Barr pummeled him all over the ring before finally putting him out of his misery with a running bulldog. After the match, Barr let it be known he had his sights set on Al Perez and the Southern title. The Varsity Club vs. British Steel Kevin Sullivan had let it be known that he was displeased with Missy Hyatt lately, and it clearly didn’t take long for him to show the cheerleader of the Varsity Club the door, as her place at the side of the Club was taken for this match by a black clad woman with a whip known only as the Fallen Angel. As Rotundo and Steiner did battle with Regal and Smiley, she was all over Sullivan at ringside until Smiley looked like he was about to get Steiner in the Norman Conquest, at which point she leapt on the ring apron and started shrieking at the referee. While the ref was so distracted, Sullivan took advantage by tossing the Golden Spike in to Rotundo, who slugged Smiley in the head with the blunt end of it before putting Steiner on top of Smiley for the win. After losing the World Tag titles, the Varsity Club seem to be back on the rise with Fallen Angel on their side. Pvt. Mick Foley vs. The Great Kabuki After Kabuki’s impactful performances as a gun for hire at the Holiday Spectaculars, Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie was impressed enough to buy his services full time. Kabuki was accompanied not only by Kaissie and Kendo Nagasaki, but Tojo Yamamoto, who Kaissie refered to as the Sensei and waved his kendo stick as Kabuki took apart the youngest member of the Cobra Corps with his martial arts moves. After he had got Foley staggering in the middle of the ring, finally dispatching him with a thrust kick to the jaw. With the war between the Sinister Syndicate and the Cobra Corps escalating the way it has , who knows where it will go next? Tony Atlas vs. Wahoo McDaniel Tony Atlas has been running roughshod since he first appeared in the AWA, but he was facing someone who was neither impressed nor intimidated by his imposing physique and power. Atlas went full bore against Wahoo with huge clotheslines and slams, but Wahoo just kept firing back with blistering chops and shots . After a brutal match, Atlas was finally able to get Wahoo in a crushing bear hug, but McDaniel just refused to give in, so Atlas tossed him to the ground in frustration then hit a running splash to finally put him away. Nick Bockwinkel & Curt Hennig vs. Lex Luger & Bob Roop While Roop was clearly going all out against the young Hennig, Luger didn’t seem to be taking the veteran Bockwinkel seriously , taking every chance to showboat and mock the former AWA world champion. Not a good idea against one of the most cagey men in wrestling. After an extended sequence slugging away at Bock, the American champ made the mistake of thinking he was out of commission when he was only playing possum. When Luger turned his back to him and gave a mocking double bicep flex to the crowd, Bockwinkel snuck up behind him and caught him in a tight-grab assisted roll up to get a shocking one two three. Luger was livid at this result but he has no one but himself to blame for not treating the former World champ with the resepct he deserved.
  19. I read the same thing. Heartbreaking news
  20. 23. Just a heads up I will be away on vacation, leaving tomorrow morning, and will be off line until next Monday at the latest.
  24. In a major trade between the AWA and Continental : The AWA sends Harley Race, Elijah Akeem, Kareem Muhamad and Missy Hyatt Continental sends Kabuki, Killer Khan, Tojo Yamamoto, Jesse Barr and Fallen Angel As this will put the AWA one over the roster cap, they release Jack Victory directly to Central States
