  1. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN/TSN for January 4th The Can/Am Express vs. Lex Luger & Rick Steiner These two incredibly fit young rookies were introduced as being from University of Miami and University of Michigan, respectively, for their AWA debut match. They were also accompanied by a curvaceous blonde woman in a cheerleader uniform who was apparently named Missy Hyatt. These two muscular young men were clearly out to make a big impression as the started off by charging over to the opposing corner and brutally elbowsmashing Phil Lafon off the apron. They then proceded to toss Tom Zenk all over the ring, Steiner in particular throwing some nasty suplexes that didn't seem to care where Zenk landed. In spite of her good looks, Missy Hyatt drew the ire of the crowd as she not only cheered her team on but taunted the Can/Am Express as they struggled to gain ground on the newcomers. Luger hoisted Zenk up in an Argentine Backbreaker that he called the Human Torture Rack and it was all over. After the match, Luger placed his foot on the chest of the fallen Zenk and smirked while Steiner ran around the ring, howling. They are clearly a dangerous new force in the AWA. Don Muraco & Bad News Allen vs. Ricky Steamboat & Da Crusher The two biggest guns in the Bad News Breakers have been gunning for the Southern champ Steamboat of late, and they seem to be slowly but surely breaking him down. For this match, Steamboat brought in the popular veteran Da Crusher and, at first, Muraco and Allen didn't seem to be taking him too seriously. They laughed at his playing to the crowd and, overall, seemed dismissive of "The Man Who Made Milwaukee Famous". This proved to be a big mistake, as any attempt to push Crusher around were met by a flurry of flying fists that staggered the two bigger men. They tried to bully him like they had past opponents, but were clearly unprepared for his two fisted style. When he finally tagged out to Steamboat, the Bad News Breakers worked to keep him in their end of the ring , working him over while the ref kept out all of Da Crusher's attempts to intervene. Muraco thought he had finished off Steamboat with a massive atomic drop, but failed to notice that Steamboat had managed a blind tag to Da Crusher. Muraco was blindsided by a huge running Bolo Punch that knocked him to the mat. One ... two ... three? Crusher just pinned the American champ! The crowd exploded in cheers while Steamboat and Crusher celebrated and the Bad News Breakers tried to figure out what just happened. Loser Leaves Town match : Buddy Rose vs. Rip Oliver Speaking of the Bad News Breakers, Buddy Rose had just recently dealt them a major blow by sending Eddie Gilbert out of the AWA, and now looks like doing the same to the rest of the stable. Oliver showed his typical deviousness throughout the match, fighting his way out of tight corners with eye rakes and low blows and pull out the stops to get rid of the Playboy. Rose was far from a newcomer to sneaky tactics, however, and bided his time until the right moment to strike. That moment came when Oliver whipped him hard into the corner and came in for an Avalanche, only for Rose to pull his knees up at the last moment. Oliver staggered back out and Rose hit him with the Inside Out Backbreaker for the quick pin. Just like that, Rose sent his former Portland compatriot packing from the AWA. Who is next for the Playboy? Road Warrior Animal vs. Buzz Sawyer Col. Buck Robley's Army have declared their intention to take the World Tag belts from around the waists of the Road Warriors, but this time out, it would be a singles match. Animal had his partner, Hawk, in his corner, while Sawyer was accompanied by both Dave Schultz and his "Commanding Officer", the Colonel himself. As crazy a match as you can imagine, with Animal hitting some big clotheslines and slams, and with Sawyer bringing his own unconventional offense of clubbing fists and headbutts. Animal looked about to put Sawyer away with a running shoulder block, but has he was coming off the ropes, Buck Robley reached in and snagged his ankle, tripping Animal and causing him to fall to the mat. The ref caught this and immediately called for the DQ as the Army fled to the back with both Road Warriors in hot pursuit. AWA World Title Match : Paul Orndorff © vs. Bob Roop This was Orndorff's first title defense after winning the World championship from Ken Patera, and it was against the former champ's stablemate, "The Beastmaster" Bob Roop. Both Patera and Sheikh Kaissie were at ringside, giving direction to Roop as he used his considerable technical skills to take Orndorff down and work over his legs. Orndorff, however, seemed to be newly invigorated by his title victory and, in an impressive display of matwork, managed to maneuver his way out of every hold without taking too much damage. Roop then tried to change tactics by getting Orndorff in a series of armwringers, but that only played into Orndorff's hands as he countered with big clotheslines, followed by a powerslam. Roop was able to gradually work his way back into a brief period of dominance and tried to get Orndorff in a shoulderbreaker, but the champ slid down his back and staggered him with a big atomic drop. He then got Roop up in the Piledriver and drove him straight down to successfully defend his title. As Orndorff soaked up the cheers of the crowd, Patera glowered at him from ringside.
  2. Maple Leaf was a lot of fun, definitely worth checking out.
  3. Put what you want to. I went with all of my title changes, since I was going through all of my past results anyway. Whatever works for you is fine.
  4. Just saying those are 6 of my favorite 80s Luchadors.
  5. 5) Los Caudillos (Sangre Chicano y Mocha Cota y La Fiera) contra Los Infernales (El Satanico y MS-1 y Pirata Morgan) I'm callling this, in advance, the greates match in the history of anything.
  6. Nothing to do with anything, but going over my past results to compile a history of my AWA, and I found my favorite forgotten AWA house show result : AWA house show at the Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, August 11th AWA World Title match : Ken Patera © vs. Ron Garvin The match went to a no contest by blood stoppage on both men
  7. Wow, love the first show. Adonis is a great guy to do the "Better than Memphis" gimmick.
  8. Whew, finally caught up to the end of last year. I just posted Super Clash 1984, my big year end show ... lots of fun stuff going on that will help set up the next year.
  9. That, for me, would depend on the wrestler who would be beating him.
  10. I always try, when possible, to give a spotlight for wrestlers when they wrestle in their home town or places where they have a lot of history : Bad News in Calgary, the Road Warriors in Chicago, Crusher in Milwaukee, Buddy Rose and Curt Hennig in Portland and San Francisco, etc.
  11. AWA Super Clash 1984 from the Metrodome, Minneapolis (as shown on a special edition of ESPN/TSN Super Cards) 20 man $5000 Battle Royal including : Da Crusher, Greg Gagne, Jerry Blackwell, Ron Garvin, Phil Lafon, Vinnie Valentino, Paul Diamond, Pat Tanaka, Javier Cruz, Tom Zenk , Wahoo McDaniel, Mr. Olympia, Rip Oliver, Bob Sweetan, Al Perez, Angel Acevedo, Dave Schultz, Buzz Sawyer, Mike Shaw, Bob Roop It came down to the Final Four of Da Crusher, Jerry Blackwell, Dave Schultz and Buzz Sawyer. The Army were able to get out Blackwell, after much effort, with a double clothesline then turned their attention to "The Man Who Made Milwaukee Famous". Crusher put up an heroic effort but could not beat the numbers when the Army double backdropped him over the top rope to eliminate him. The two partners then looked set to tear into each other but Col. Buck Robley swiftly intervened and convinced the two partners to split the money and the victory. The ref wasn't about to argue with them , so the (co-) winners are Buzz Sawyer and Dave Schultz. Steven Regal vs. Sheikh Adnan Kaissie Kaissie tried to bully Regal throughout the match but Regal came back with the Iron Fist punch to knock out Kaissie and get the win. The PYT Express vs. The Brotherhood Of Poland The PYT Express hit a combination of a legsweep by Brickhouse and a dropkick by Koko on Wiskowski to get the win. Lord Humongous vs. Mike Rotunda When Sheikh Kaissie tried to interfere , Steven Regal intercepted him with a tackle to the ground, and with Humongous distracted by this, Rotunda caught him with a roll up for the one-two-three . Don Muraco & Bad News Allen vs. Curt Hennig & Ricky Steamboat Steamboat had Bad News lined up for the top rope flying cross body press, but Muraco shoved him hard from behind off the top turnbuckle and sent him crashing to the mat. Bad News then gave Steamboat a big running fistdrop for the dirty win. Loser Leaves Town Match : Buddy Rose vs. Eddie Gilbert As crazy a match as you can imagine, Gilbert was ready to hit Rose with the Hot Shot, but the Playboy cut it off with a big elbow shot to the face, then got the Inside Out Backbreaker for the win and sent Hot Stuff packing from the AWA. AWA World Tag Title Double-Chain Match : The Road Warriors © vs. Kamala & The Botswana Beast In an extemely bloody brawl, the Roadies finally got Kamala down with a chain assisted double clothesline to get the hard fought victory. AWA World Title match : Ken Patera © vs. Paul Orndorff Orndorff had been gunning for Patera for a while but had to fight his way through the Sinister Syndicate to get to him. He finally had Patera and the World Title in his sights. Patera spent much of the match working over Orndorff's arm and shoulder, trying to take away the Piledriver and set him up for the Full Nelson. Orndorff fought back hard, matching the champ hold for hold and power move for power move. Patera kept trying to hook the Full Nelson on him, but Orndorff was always able to wriggle free or power out before he could get it cinched in. Patera finally got him on his shoulder and ready for the powerslam into the corner turnbuckle that had dispatched so many challengers before. Orndorff, however, was able to get free with a slidedown of his back, and Patera went hard , chest first, into the corner turnbuckle and went backwards into a massive belly-to-back suplex by Orndorff that shook the ring. One ... two ... THREE!!!! Orndorff won the match and is the new AWA World Champion. Curt Hennig, Ricky Steamboat, Greg Gagne, Mike Rotunda and many other wrestlers rushed the ring to congratulate the new champ and hoist him on their shoulders as the fans cheered on.

  14. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN & TSN for December 28th Brickhouse Brown vs. Ivan Putski After a heated bout where the ref got knocked down, Putski wrapped up Brickhouse in a small package, but Koko Ware took advantage of the referee's incapacitation to roll them over so that Brickhouse was getting the pin. The ref, however, recovered in time to see Koko leaving the ring, and when he went over to caution him, Ed Wiskowski quickly entered the ring and reversed the pin back to Putski. The ref then counted the victory for Putski. "Doctor D" Dave Schultz vs. Vinnie Valentino With his partner Buzz Sawyer howling at ringside, Schultz tossed Valentino all over the ring, dropping him hard on his head several times, before piledriving him twice to finally take the win. Al Perez & Angel Acevedo vs. The Can-Am Express Perez and Acevedo are apparently now referring to themselves as the Latin Assassins. Perez left most of the work to Acevedo, who showed unprecedented viciousness in battering Lafon and Zenk before finally polishing off Zenk with an over-the-shoulder neckbreaker. Buddy Rose, Ricky Steamboat & Curt Hennig vs. Eddie Gilbert, Bad News Allen & Don Muraco While Steamboat was trying to punch his way out of a Muraco bearhug, Gilbert grabbed him by the hair from the outside and dropped him, throat first, onto the top rope. Bad News then came in with a running fistdrop to get the shocking victory. AWA World Tag Title match : The Road Warriors © vs. Rip Oliver & Bob Sweetan The Bad News Breakers actually put up a pretty stiff fight before the Roadies decided to take the metaphorical gloves off and blasted Oliver with the Doomsday Device for the win. Paul Orndorff vs. Kamala In the ongoing war between Orndorff and the Sinister Syndicate, he won by DQ when Kamala attacked the referee. AWA Canadian Title match : Mike Shaw © vs. Rick Martel Ever since his shocking loss of the AWA Canadian Title to Shaw 2 months ago, Martel has been gunning for a rematch. Throughout the match, Shaw kept working over Martel's ribs, while Martel attacked Shaw's legs and knees, trying to take him off his feet. Martel eventually went for a running cross body block, but Shaw caught him. It looked like history would repeat itself with Shaw hitting another big power slam, but his legs buckled from beneath him and Martel got the one-two-three, retaking the title to the cheers of the fans.

AWA World Title match : Ken Patera © vs. Da Crusher Crusher won by count out when Patera left the ring to attack Paul Orndorff, who was ringside. Patera retained the World Title.
  17. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN & TSN for December 21st William Regal & Mike Rotunda vs. Lord Humongous & Sheikh Adnan Kaissie Humongous and Kaissie spent much of match brutally beating on young Regal while savagely attacking Rotunda any time he tried to come in to rescue. Kaissie hit a big belly to back suplex to finish him off, but failed to realize that Regal had tagged in Rotunda at the last second. Rotunda picked up Kaissie in an airplane spin before hitting a Samoan Drop, and Humongous was unable to make it in time to stop the pin. Rotunda and Regal got the win, but took a lot of lumps to get it. The Latin Lovers vs. Buzz Sawyer & Dave Schultz Sawyer and Schultz have been particularly reckless of late to try to make their mark as contenders for the world tag titles, and showed no concern about hurting Valentino and Cruz and they tossed them around the ring before Sawyer powerslammed Cruz, leading to a flying elbow drop from Schultz for the victory. Koko Ware vs. Ed Wiskowski The Polish Prince was seeking revenge for Koko abandoning Playboy After Dark. While Koko was being cautioned by the referee, Koko's partner in the PYT Express, Brickhouse Brown, hit Wiskowski with a top rope missile dropkick. Koko got the pin , and afterwards the pair of them beatdown on Wiskowski until somebody rushed to the ring to the rescue. It was Ivan Putski, making his return to the AWA! He made the save and both members of the newly reunited Brotherhood Of Poland ran the PYT Express out of the ring, to the cheers of the fans. Greg Gagne vs. Bob Sweetan When Sweetan was setting up Gagne for the piledriver, Gagne caught him in a small package to get the win. The two proceeded to keep on slugging it out after the bell rang. Al Perez vs. Tom Zenk Al Perez was accompanied by "The Cuban Assassin" Angel Acevedo as he defeated Zenk with the Ally-Copter. Paul Orndorff vs. Botswana Beast Once again, Beast seemed to have no goal other than to injure Orndorff to keep him away from World champ Ken Patera. He didn't seem to be a good enough job, as Patera charged into the ring to attack Orndorff. He tried to lock Orndorff in the Full Nelson but the Road Warriors came out for the save. Orndorff won by DQ.
  18. AWA show from the Portland Memorial Coliseum in Portland, December 15th Koko Ware vs. Ed Wiskowski Ware won after Brickhouse Brown hit Wiskowski with a missile dropkick when the ref was not looking Steven Regal vs. Sheikh Adnan Kaissie Regal won with the Iron Fist punch Kamala vs. Phil Lafon Kamala squashed Lafon with the Air Africa Splash Curt Hennig vs. Rip Oliver Hennig pinned Oliver with a cradle suplex Ricky Steamboat & Da Crusher vs. Bad News Allen & Don Muraco The Bad News Breakers won when Muraco ambushed Steamboat from behind to set him up for the Bad News Blaster Buddy Rose vs. Eddie Gilbert After a long, bloody brawl, Rose finally put down Gilbert with a swinging neckbreaker

  20. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN/TSN for December 14th The Can-Am Express vs. The PYT Express After walking out on Playboy After Dark last week, it looks like Koko Ware has found a new partner in the newly arriving Brickhouse Brown. Both men came to the ring wearing shades and red leather jackets. While they came off as extremely arrogant, the PYT Express were extremely polished in the first match, finishing Zenk off with a spike brainbuster. Badd Company vs. Buzz Sawyer & Dave Schultz While Badd Company gave a very good accounting of themselves, in the end they were overwhelmed by Col. Buck Robley's Army, with Tanaka being pinned after a huge double lariat. Wahoo McDaniel vs. Al Perez After Wahoo's partner, Ron Garvin, pretty much ran Ricky Santana out of the AWA last week, it looked like McDaniel would do the same to Al Perez this time out. Perez was very wary of locking up with Wahoo, who came after him with massive chops and finally got him down in the Indian Deathlock. It seemed like that would be it for Perez, but help came from an unexpected source when "The Cuban Assassin" Angel Acevedo charged into the ring and attacked Wahoo, ultimately hitting an over-the-shoulder neckbreaker on the Chief. He and Perez then put the boots to Wahoo until Garvin charged the ring and ran them off. Eddie Gilbert vs. Curt Hennig After a lengthy, back and forth battle, Gilbert had gotten the advantage with a nasty low blow, but was unable to capitalize as Buddy Rose came out of nowhere to enter the ring and started savagely pummeling him. Gilbert was given the victory by DQ and Hennig had to pull the Playboy off Hot Stuff before he took it too far. Paul Orndorff vs. Bob Roop After a match where Roop spent much of his offense working over Orndorff's right arm to set him up for the Shoulder Breaker, Orndorff was able to pick up Roop with his left arm and hit a one armed power slam for the win. After the match, Orndorff was bellowing, "Where's Patera? I want Patera!"
  21. Apart from helping with the introduction of new wrestlers, squash matches really don't help with my TV format. I prefer to use it to set up angles and matches (like the Roadies vs. Sawyer and Shultz) or have their own little storylines (like Regal and Rotunda taking on Lord Humongous). Koko had been a member of the First Family in Memphis as a heel. I have huge love for Koko but he has been kind of spinning his wheels lately. I've come up with a fun angle for him that I think folks will find interesting.
  22. OK, guys, at 4 weeks behind and little time to get caught up, I've had to throw in the towel and point form my shows. I'd prefer to put more detail into my TV shows, but this is the only way I am going to get caught up. I've had several whammies thrown at me this month but I assure you that I will be back on track with some great things planned for the new year. I appreciate the patience and support you guys have given me.
  23. Sorry to hear that, LBP, take care and come back when you are ready.
  24. AWA Show from the International Amphitheater, Chicago, December 9th The Cuban Commandos vs. The Latin Lovers Valentino brought home the win for the Latin Lovers with a rollup on Morrow "Crusher" Jerry Blackwell vs. The Great Gama Singh Blackwell squashed Singh with a running splash Curt Hennig vs. Bob Sweetan Hennig won with a running cross body block AWA American Title match : Don Muraco © vs. Da Crusher Muraco won after hitting Crusher in the head with a chair when the ref was distracted AWA Southern Title match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Mr. Olympia It looked like Olympia would get the win with a Sleeper hold, only for Steamboat to kick back from the corner and bridge out into a pinfall AWA World Title match : Ken Patera © vs. Greg Gagne Patera won with a second rope kneedrop to Gagne's ribs
  25. AWA Show at the Met Center, Bloomington, December 7th (As shown on ESPN/TSN Super Cards) Mike Rotunda & Steven Regal vs. Lord Humongous & Sheikh Adnan Kaissie Rotunda won with a crucifix on Kaissie Ed Wiskowski & Koko Ware vs. Rip Oliver & Bob Sweetan Once again, Ware abandoned Wiskowski when he was going for a hot tag, leading to the Polish Prince losing to a Spike Piledriver by the Bad News Breakers Bad News Allen vs. Greg Gagne Bad News won with the Bad News Blaster Bob Roop vs. Master Gee Roop won with the Shoulder Breaker AWA Southern Title match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Al Perez Steamboat got the win by countering a German Suplex attempt with an inside cradle AWA Southern Tag Title match : Ron Garvin & Wahoo McDaniel © vs. The Cuban Commandos Wahoo forced Gerry Morrow to give up to an Indian Deathlock to get the victory AWA World Tag Title match : The Road Warriors © vs. Buzz Sawyer & Dave Schultz Both teams went to a double DQ when they both started using Sawyer's chain Paul Orndorff vs. Mr. Olympia Orndorff got the victory with a Piledriver
