[1999-09-09-WWF-Smackdown] Ken Shamrock and Chris Jericho
Video package ahead of the segment is a good recap of stuff we have missed so far in the feud. Finkel with the wig and shiny shirt did make me chuckle. King making fun of Shamrock on commentary is pretty funny. The editing of the cage lowering was good. I really enjoyed this and think Shamrock vs. Jericho would have been a strong match at Unforgiven.

[1999-09-09-WWF-Smackdown] Test and Stephanie McMahon
Real American fires up and out comes the stooges and Linda. They arent wasting any time on setting the wedding date huh? I guess when you know, you know. Shane calling off the dogs and claiming he was done fighting was decent storyline progression.

[1999-09-06-WWF-Raw] Ivory vs Torrie
Fun brawl around the building that has a good sense of hate and spontaneous. Ivory being crazed at the end with the iron shot was awesome. One of the better tv matches of the year for WWF. **1/2

[1999-09-06-WWF-Raw] Al Snow as Avatar / Interview: The Rock & Mankind
Al losing his mind as Avatar just makes you feel sad and confused because the angle has been so bad. Am I supposed to laugh or cry? Rock and Mankind do a quick promo backstage and I am enjoying them together although it now feels like no one is messing with HHH as the new champion.

[1999-09-06-WCW-Nitro] Sting, Lex Luger, Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart
Why did Hogan get up? I think he is pretty quick to conclusions considering how much shit he has done to Sting in the past couple of years.

[1999-09-03-ECW-TNN] Dudley Boys vs Spike Dudley & Balls Mahoney
No idea why we need to see this again. We go to break with Spike taking a huge powerbomb and come back with him and Balls hitting their finishers and the Duds kicking out. Why? Balls goes through a tumbtack table and Spike is given a 3D and the Duds win. That is straight garbage. The U S product is going along fairly badly right now when WCW is being booked the best out of the three major promotions.

[1999-09-03-ECW-TNN] Taz vs Taijiri
I thought this was garbage. Once again we get Joey telling us how different this is. I don't know Joey, feels like another 5 minute tv main event to me. After watching all these years, Joey is up there with Chono and Muto as my most disappointing people of the 90's. Tajiri had been built up so well the past two weeks and just like that, taz definitively defeats him.

[1999-09-02-WWF-Smackdown] Pepper Steak
This feels like Russo seeing the WCW bullshit in the summer and saying "I can top that". Just an awful, wretched segment.

[1999-08-30-WWF-Raw] The Rock & Mankind vs The Undertaker & Big Show
I can only surmise that UnderTaker was needed to deliberate something in wrestler's court right at this precise moment. Show yells at JR at ringside. I have liked Show in this role more than any other in WWF so far. That pop was enormous but it feels like the tag belts are really just flavor of the week placeholders for the big stars in the promotion.

[1999-08-30-WWF-Raw] The Rock and Mankind / Meat and Terri Runnels / GTV
We get the origin of Rock N Sock. Rock is so over right now as the crowd is finishing all of his signature lines. This was entertaining for what it was. We get a little spot of Terri and Rock interacting. 17 years later, Rock is still blowing off ladies like Lana on Raw. The Meat/Chaz/Mariana stuff is something I am not invested in but it felt very Jerry Springerish.

[GWE] A few personal truths...
I would say my truths are that: 1. CROWD REACTION means little to me. Sure, most of my highest rank matches in my top 100 have good heat, but it isn't something I pay a whole lot of attention to unless the crowd is really rabid like 5/25/92. Was the crowd hot for 1/20/97? Certainly, but it isn't something I can pick out certain reaction to if I recollect that match now. I find a lot of enjoyment in watching a really good IWA-MS match in front of 40 people or a BattlARTS match that sounds like it is being housed in a museum than most matches with great heat. 2. CARD PLACEMENT AND SHOW IMPORTANCE MATTER TREMENDOUSLY: No selling, doing too much, etc can be detrimental in the wrong spot and those same moves can be forgiveable in the right mindset for me. A random PWG match that is going on third is not the time to throw out every move in your arsenal. The final Okada vs. Tanashashi match in front of the Tokyo Dome in your biggest show of the year? That is much more forgivable in my view. I still really struggle with the notion that wrestlers are easier to rank vs. matches but that is just a different viewpoint.
