[1993-08-21-SMW-TV] Down and Dirty: Jim Cornette
Cornette is talking about the WWF too! We see him here interacting with Boss Man and I wish Ray would have picked SMW over WCW even though we may not have gotten the great Vader feud.

[1993-08-21-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler and Vince McMahon
Great segment here with Memphis and WWF colliding. This was weird for it to be done in this venue but it does make Memphis look big time in this context. 93 has some lows for wrestling stateside but the comingling of promotions has been a bright spot and shown them take chances they normally don't.

[1993-08-21-AJW-Grand Prix] Akira Hokuto vs Yumiko Hotta
Opening moments of this were great with Hotta attacking the leg and really cranking it. Then, that gets forgotten real quick and it all goes off the rails. I can't forgive the gravity of how the limb work was blown off in this match given the emphasis it had in the first half of the match. Good for Hokuto with the long night she had, but this was a real disappointment. ***

[1993-08-21-AJW-Grand Prix] Manami Toyota vs Akira Hokuto
Great match with some high impact. Toyota brings an aerial arsenal that has Hokuto reeling and nothing here gets ridiculous down the stretch to bog the match down overall. Really surprised at the lack of restraint a high energy match like this can happen. I really do want to dive into all of the 93 joshi later on. ****1/4

[1993-08-20-AJPW-Summer Action Series] Mitsuharu Misawa & Jun Akiyama & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi vs Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue & Masa Fuchi
Really, really good six man. I love seeing Fuchi mix it up as he always brings something unique to the table and he delivered here. The Misawa and friends side still is gelling well and this made great opportunity of showing them having cohesion but still not being able to take out Kawada who was rehabbed here. ***1/2

[1993-08-19-SMW-Morgantown, WV] Jim Cornette vs Cowabunga
This was so fun. Curtis is having a great time in the Cowabunga suit and Cornette is right there with him feeding him some great bumps. It feels like this for sure wouldn't have worked at any point in time than it does right here with the crowd really getting behind Cowabunga. ***

[1993-08-18-SMW-Jefferson City, TN] Rock & Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies (Losers Must Bungee Jump)
I went to an apple farm last Saturday and the scene here reminded me of that so much. Simply southern with a unique stipulation that is complete 1990's. Fun match but the surrounding aspects set this apart. ***

[1993-08-15-JWP-Rolling Summer] Devil Masami vs Hikari Fukuoka
Devil Masami was fascinating during this match and led Fukuoka to a great match where Fukukoka gets her moments but the finish was never in doubt. This match emphasized how great joshi has been in 1993 and I know there was a bevy of stuff off the set that I need to seek out as well. The bodyscisscors that Pete mentions is second only to the one that Javier Llanes and El Dandy do in their 1994 match. ***3/4

[1993-08-20-SMW-K-Town Showdown] Jim Cornette vs Bob Armstrong (Lumberjack)
Another feather in the cap of Cornette. They milked everything they could here for all it was worth and it was a joy to watch. Bob winding up to punch Cornette and him flying never fails to make me smile. This was the type of memorable matches that while not great really make a promotion or period of time stand out for their entertainment value. ***

[1993-08-14-SMW-Fire on the Mountain] Rock & Roll Express & Bob & Scott & Steve Armstrong vs Heavenly Bodies & Bruise Brothers & Jim Cornette (Rage In The Cage)
Awesome, awesome match up there with the best SMW matches in history. Blood, selling, some comedy and overall smart finish. The handcuffed stuff worked out better here than in any other match in history and kept the sides fair to some point. Cornette's entire ring attire and involvement here is awesome. I know Hennan deservedly so gets praised for some of his wrestling performances we have on tape, but Corny has been very competent and effective in his role. Wonderful stuff all around. ****

[1993-08-14-SMW-Fire on the Mountain] Tracy Smothers vs Brian Lee (Coal Miner's Glove)
Really strong match and Lee looks more and more comfortable carrying the SMW heavyweight title which sounds bizarre going into 1993 as a whole. Say what you will about Tracy's persona around this time and that is a heated debate, but his babyface mannerisms are awesome vs. Lee and he plays up Lee's strengths perfectly. The finish was pretty substandard but DWB getting involved doesn't bother me either and continues Smothers plight against the men doing him wrong. ***3/4

[1993-08-14-WCW-Saturday Night] Ric Flair and Sting
Flair for the Gold is still happening huh. Even as its biggest supporter, the time has passed. Flair and Sting interacting here actually feels fresh somewhat since it had been a couple of years.

[1993-08-14-USWA-TV] Interview: Bret & Owen Hart
The tag match sounds super hot and this is the beauty of this set that this comes off the heels of what we just saw take place in MSG but the sides have swapped and yet it doesn't seem that far fetched at all.

[1993-08-13-WWF-MSG, NY] Bret Hart vs Yokozuna (Cage)
Awesome match with the WWF cage being utilized well. Yoko is a monster and locked inside of this cage, that can be dangerous. Bret has to use his speed and smarts to outwit the big man at every turn. He does that well and the teases are brilliant at making both Bret and Yoko look competent. The Lawler ending was fine and led to Yoko securing the win in a smart way. Some of these WWF Handheld matches from 93 have been disappointing but between this and the Iron Man, we have had some great stuff too. ****
