[1993-05-15-WCW-Worldwide] Rick Rude vs Dustin Rhodes
This didn't look great so if it was one of their best, yikes. We get a fuck finish and the US title is in limbo. A good third from the top feud nonetheless in WCW at the time.

[1993-05-14-AAA-Sin Limite] El Hijo del Santo vs Heavy Metal
Some wide opinions on this match but I side with Loss. I don't think Heavy Metal is some great worker either but like Azteca getting drug to ***** classics with Dandy, a superb worker can get something great out of him and that was what he had here. The opening work on the mat was extremely well done and the pop for the headscissors climb rewards that as it felt like a huge spot and a big feather in the cap of Santo. The finish of the first and third falls was great as I figured we would get the big Santo comeback that never came thanks to Fuerza doing some good timed interference. A great match and another breath of fresh air for this year overall. ****1/4

[1993-05-14-AJPW-Super Power Series] Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue vs Kenta Kobashi & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi
Great match in my book. Kawada has turned and him vs. Kobashi has that 5/90 six man Jumbo vs. Misawa vibe to it. Just fresh hate that seeps off the page. They were the highlights here but Kikuchi and Taue were no slouches and Kawada/Taue gelled immediately as an effective team. They pick up a big win here and look to provide chaos to the All Japan structure as a whole. ****

[1993-05-08-SMW-TV] Jim Cornette, Bob and Steve Armstrong
Wow was this super. First, Cornette does a great promo ragging on Dixie Dyanmite. Scott comes out and does a good promo of his own with a reasonable explanation of why he wears the hood and doing a great reveal. Finally, Bullet Bob lays it down with a fired up promo ending in him socking Cornette. SMW has had some wonderful angles this year.

[1993-05-08-WCW-Worldwide] Hollywood Blonds vs Marcus Bagwell & 2 Cold Scorpio
Never seen this before and Im so glad I didn't read the comments ahead of time as I actually hadn't heard the hype for this one. It blew me away. The blondes were so good here doing all the cheating staples of a tag team in impressive fashion. Too Cold and Bagwell were great babyfaces and took the beating and showed good shine when given the opportunity. The finish is a shame as we get a cheap way out but this is a great WCW hidden gem and I can't wait for Parv to marvel at the heel tactics of the blondes. ****

[1993-05-08-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler vs Papa Shango
This is what the Savage cage match should have been as the hate here felt palpable and we get some dueling fireballs resulting in Papa Shango winning the USWA title. They have done a good job keeping Jerry interesting against the bevy of people he is feuding with.

[1993-05-06-UWFi-Fight of Champions] Vader vs Tatsuo Nakano
Vader looks like a boss here with his glasses in his promo and he wastes no time laying waste to Nakano in brutal but impressive fashion. A great squash match to show someone has arrived in the promotion with a vengeance. *1/2

[1993-05-06-UWFi-Fight of Champions] Naoki Sano vs Kiyoshi Tamura
93 wont let up as another one of my 90 breakout guys, Tamura, has his breakout match here. This was worked so well for shootstyle with Tamura really looking like the slick young punk that is just a bit faster but also can make mistakes at times. Him securing the win feels like he has arrived on the scene. Sano working the old guard and using suplexes and submissions to punish Tamura for his mistakes was a super countering act. I love this year in wrestling ****1/4

[1993-05-05-FMW-Origin] Terry Funk vs Atsushi Onita
This match really gripped me like very few have before and cemented Onita as the biggest surprise of all the 90's stuff. Funk was great here starting out. The build to the bumps was well performed and the violence and punches were exchanged with great vigor. Then the siren starts and I lose my shit. What a scene and the next five minutes was some of the most beautiful stuff I have seen in wrestling and completely gripping. Spinning toe hold, the prisoners dilemma of Onita to save Funk, it was all here. My 7 month son was transfixed on the screen which may not win me father of the year awards but it was incredible to watch. The final visual of the explosion and the sound ceasing was a cinematic artistic masterpiece of a call. I may be overrating this and realize the action was really top notch but the whole package of this connected with me like few things in wrestling really have. ****1/2

[1993-05-05-FMW-Origin] Megumi Kudo & Combat Toyoda vs Manami Toyota & Toshiyo Yamada
Love the vibe of this show. That said, this was a frigging blast and reading the backstory here only makes it better. Team FMW was vicious but sympathetic when they needed to be. Toyota has really shined so far in 93 and hit the perfect balance of dynamic but restrained to a slight extent on the matches we have seen for her. The FMW securing the win felt like a big deal. Super stuff. ****1/4

[1993-05-04-ECW-TV] Terry Funk vignette
For Funk nonsensical promos, this was tops for me with the Horse Ass's getting an Eddie Gilbert graphic and Funk doing some great facials and one liners. We have another strong feud in 1993. It is amazing that 2014, I struggle to think of great blood feuds and something like this wouldn't sniff my top 3 for the year so far and has been immensely entertaining.

[1993-05-03-NJPW-Fukuoka Dome] Hulk Hogan vs Great Muta
Between this and the Providence house show match, this was the first disc of the year that drug for me in spots. I thought Muto was dreadful here and a complete piece of shit. Even Hogan didn't seem too interested compared to the 91 stuff vs. Tenryu. Overall this felt overly long and was a chore to get through for me. This was overall a weird show in retrospect with Sting and Hogan on the same bill. **.

[1993-05-03-NJPW-Fukuoka Dome] Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs Hiroshi Hase
I wanted a bit more here but can see Fujiwara disciples loving this. Hase has had a weird decade overall having some great matches and yet he seems forgotten all the same. The amateur touches worked in here were my favorite parts of the match but the ending came way too quickly for my liking. ***1/4

[1993-05-03-NJPW-Fukuoka Dome] Sting vs Scott Norton
Im with ya here PeteF. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this and Sting was inspired to me throwing the kitchen sink to Norton and making it feel like he took down a monster. This carried the Vader vs. Sting template and Norton was great at selling and hit a gusher to boot. I wish he would have made the trip to Slamboree as the finish was the only weird thing here as Norton loses his shit and Sting just sort of saunters away. Ill try to get Parv to watch this when we do our 1993 wrap up show. ***1/2

[1993-05-03-AJW-Grand Prix] Akira Hokuto vs Toshiyo Yamada
Great match. While Hokuto doesn't emote as much as say someone like Kobashi does selling the limb, she pretty much refuses to use it or that side of the body the rest of the match which is admirable. Yamada sometimes has this unheralded matches that really deliver and that happened here. This utilized the hot finish based of the groundwork of the arm work and mat wrestling starting out. Cool stuff. ****

[1993-05-02-WWF-Providence, RI] Shawn Michaels vs Mr Perfect
Way too much going on and some generic action before that. I guess 13 year old Justin Rozzero enjoyed it as the Providence crowd seemed to be with the performers overall but this just felt slow and mundane compared to everything else we are seeing on the set so far this year. Also a ridiculous finish with run ins galore. **

[1993-05-01-WCW-Saturday Night] Rick Rude and Dustin Rhodes
Rude and Dustin have a good fight here. This always seemed like a weird paring that never quite clicked much like Rude vs. Flair later on in the year but this was a fierce, hateful start.
