[1999-04-26-WCW-Nitro] Kevin Nash vs DDP vs Goldberg vs Sting
Savage helping DDP feels more random and off than Vince and Austin being on the same page on the opposite show. I really hated this back to Page and think an audible should have been called with how over Sting was after his big title win. This is a whirlwind episode of Nitro for the second week in a row.

[1999-04-26-WCW-Nitro] Sting vs DDP
We will track this as we go along and if 2000 gets completed, but right now I am ready to declare this as WCW's last shining moment where they at least still had some life on the wrestling landscape and could have PERHAPS turned things around. Great moments will still happen probably although I suspect they will be fewer and farther between. Having two home grown WCW talents come out and work a match that feels like an updated NWA title match version with holds, reversals and some brawling was extremely fitting. I don't think Sting was ever as over maybe in his career as he was here. His win feels like a crowning moment that completly eclipses GAB 90 and Starrcade 97. This made me optimistic in a way but in hindsight also sad as this was the last glimmer of a promotion that had been relevant for decades before. ****1/2

Where the Big Boys Play #71 - Clash of the Champions XVIII
Sorry Pete, I knew you had some hatred to some portion of the commentary. Brain: I think the timing of Luger's run was integral. If it came after the WM 9 Hogan debacle, I don't think he stood a chance. Even before that, the All American gimmick feels dated where certain individuals like Duggan and Hogan to an extent could still be over resting on their patriotic roots just based on crowd familiarity but a new character would struggle mightily in that much of a white meat babyface role.

Alexander Otsuka
In chronicling the 90s, these four guys have had the biggest rep bump in my eyes. Onita, tamura, Waltman, and Otsuka. Otsuka feels like a guaranteed top fifty candidate for me and really varies the style which is refreshing in the Battlarts landscape.

Wrestling Podmass Thread
This was a great week of pods. Joe I worry for your sanity continuing to listen to Goldbergs pod.

[1999-04-26-BattlARTS] Daisuke Ikeda vs Alexander Otsuka
Sublime stuff and worked differently from Battlarts matches with the risk taking that Loss mentioned. Otsuka is a treat every time he is out and may honestly be my favorite Battlarts guy at this point. Tough to not rank since we get the vast majority of this, but this is something to seek out for sure and its a great match.

[1999-04-25-WWF-Backlash] Steve Austin vs The Rock
Slightly prefer the Mania match as the ending felt more complete but this was a very good match. The Brawling was typical but we get some extra stuff like the Rock Bottom through the table and Rock with the camera. The ending with Vince helping Austin but not really aligning with him was interesting too. WHERE TO STEPHANIE is ridiculous Russo shit. ***3/4

[1999-04-24-MPPW-TV] Brawling For Dollars
Generic battle royal action but it coming down to Lawler vs. Dundee was smart. We then get a nice money angle with the Fabs piledriving Lawler on the floor and Dundee doing an awesome promo vowing revenge on the house show later that night. Him bringing up past battles like the Concession Stand Brawl was really smart.

[1999-04-24-MPPW-TV] Interview: Fabulous Ones
Kiern looked pissed at the haggler in the crowd wanting to kick him out. The Fabs do a good promo and I seem to be enjoying this angle more than Loss and Tim as it has been solid stuff for me.

[1999-04-19-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin 'Funeral'
Long, winding segment that was good. Austin with the monster truck wasn't as memorable as the beer bath but was pretty damn cool and at least the stuff is happening inside the arena. I love JR being appalled that Rock still had the SMoking Skull belt like it was some huge travesty. The brawling on the gravesite was good and the heat on Shane was well done as it looked like Austin was going to end the show on top when Shane came out of nowhere.

[1999-04-19-WWF-Raw] Interview: Vince & Stephanie McMahon
Vince yelling son of a bitch was awesome as was him taking off and almost running over Mideon. As ridiculous as this angle has been, the acting at points has been well done.

[1999-04-19-WWF-Raw] The Rock announcement
Rock will be holding a funeral for Stone Cold tonight on Raw. Seems like a usual thing where Rock starts the show with a promo. This was ok but kind of felt out of place to me with the Undertaker stuff also going on and the whole funeral theme.

[1999-04-19-WCW-Nitro] Goldberg vs DDP
Man Goldberg still has a following which is incredible since at points in 1999 everyone from Savage to Nash to Hogan have had more emphasis put on them. They start out with a knuckle bump and it is on. Why is Dusty on commentary here? I liked Page escalation to more heel stuff here like grabbing the tights to shove Goldberg into the turnbuckle. He also busts out a belly to belly which surprised me. They both did a good job evading the top moves of the other and the spear tease was really well done. Right up to the knuckles shot and subsequent bullshit, I was ready to declare this on par with Havoc. The finish is an overbooked mess and shows that even though this was a good Nitro overall, not everything would click for WCW in any given night like it would at times in 1997. ***

[1999-04-19-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair vs Kevin Nash
Gorgeous George must have watched Jimmy Hart at WM 9 judging by her referee performance here. Anyway, Flair gets pinned and then carted away to a mental institution with Arn and Roddy bickering back and forth. What a strange journey Flair has been on in four months of 1999.

[1993-04-17-NWA-Grandslam I] Sabu vs Lightning Kid
Really fun match to me that shows off some of Kids' great babyface tendencies. I don't think this had as much of a storyline to break the great parameter but it feels like a good chapter for both men in their 90's output. Kid was super at timing his stuff in the match and Sabu had that aura to him that works. Keller snapping photos at ringside was also a highlight. ***1/2
