[1996-04-26-RINGS] Tsuyoshi Kohsaka vs Yoshihisa Yamamoto
Seeing these guys progression on later yearbooks, this was fun to see in context as it felt a little like a studio match to set up their bigger stuff later on. I enjoyed the technique displayed and the work was solid. Not an overall Rings Standout, but a fine chapter 1 to the feud. ***

[1996-04-23-ECW-TV] Music Video: The Sandman & Missy Hyatt
MIssy had been barely hanging on but this video looks like the point where she tips the other way. This video didn't do much for me as the Stones song felt over the hill for ECW.

[1996-04-22-WCW-Nitro] Sting & Lex Luger vs Ric Flair & The Giant
Seriously, that is what the C stands for???? Match wasn't very good but wasn't meant to be as it was for the Giant vs. Flair set up. The premise with the coffee was pretty stupid but Flair saying he was going to kick his big ass to the delight of the crowd was a highlight. Bischoff is dismayed and apologizes as we go off the air. *3/4

[1996-04-20-ECW-Hostile City Showdown] Raven vs Shane Douglas
Solid action but nothing exceptional. Douglas turns heel and sets himself up for a feud with Scorpio. Raven feels a bit lost in the shuffle throughout all of this. ECW has some high points around this time but is in a weird position where stuff seems to be settling. **1/4

[1996-04-20-ECW-Hostile City Showdown] Sabu vs Rob Van Dam
No attachment for me so this was pretty shitty. I know Styles is just putting over the talent and promotion but him yammering on about this being an all timer feels like a get a grip moment in 2015. I know in the context, it was seen highly but I cant escape that vaccumm watching it now. Anyway, most of the coolness that Sabu had in the Mikey match is erased here as it felt like two guys having fun showing off spots to each other. **

[1996-04-20-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Randy Savage
Savage with these WCWSN promos feels a little odd at this point in time. He is still wanting a piece of Flair here.

[1996-04-20-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler vs Jeff Jarrett
I think this is the studio match of the 90's for me unless Im blanking on something. I loved the way they teased the whole hour and then we do get a bit of an upset with a pin at the halfway point of the show where it comes as a surprise but we still had a ton of match. Morell faking the heart attack was done well and the crowd bit on it big time. I love Memphis when it is like this. ***1/2

[1996-04-20-USWA-TV] Bill Dundee and the Cyberpunks
The Cyberpunks are an interesting gimmick. They kind of feel hokey but also ahead of their time. Interesting feud and good for USWA as always at least trying something different.

[1996-04-07-JWP-Light Up Night] Dynamite Kansai & Takako Inoue vs Mayumi Ozaki & Kyoko Inoue
COuld someone provide some context to the parajas incredibles type pairings here from what I am familiar with? Anyway, Really good match and I always like seeing Kansai and Oz mix it up. They provide a lot of hatred here and the Double Inoues are good background characters to keep the energy level up. Joshi in 1996 has yet to have that one classic yet, but this was a great match and I anticipate more in this vein. ****

[1996-04-20-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Steve Williams vs Akira Taue
A match with an amazing amount of heart. Throughout the match, you had a feeling of it being one ill timed move or botch of being off the rails but it never does and keeps building up to Taue's big moment with the crowd in the frenzy. As an overall match, it probably isn't top 20 for AJ in the decade, but it is a personal favorite and tough not to have a smile on your face seeing Taue get his time to shine. Kudos to Doc to who felt like a bygone conclusion by this point. ****1/4

[1996-04-20-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Mitsuharu Misawa & Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama vs Toshiaki Kawada & Johnny Ace & Gary Albright
This was really good stuff. Looking at the pairing, I said to myself wow what a mismatch for the Albright and Ace side not knowing the end result. They did a great job of making them look effective especially Albright who is now on a bit of a roll with his AJ run. This is the type of match that showed AJ still had some decent depth and could deliver compelling six mans on the back half of the decade. ***3/4

[1996-04-19-ECW-Plymouth Meeting, PA] Sabu vs 2 Cold Scorpio
Another good match in this series that I liked a smidge better than Cyberslam but they do have a great match in them if they edited some of the time out. This as a 20 minute match would have been there but it lost its momentum for me as it kept going. Still some crazy spots besides that completely dumb spot Scorpio does with the table that is propped up. ***1/2

[1996-04-19-WAR] Rey Misterio Jr vs Psicosis
This felt like their version of a touring type match they could send to different promotions. The action was good but there was no storyline or meaning behind both of them. The match is meant to be taken on the surface and pop the crowd and it does that effectively. ***

[1996-04-16-ECW-TV] FBI and D-Von Dudley debut
D-Von debuts here. With the glut of ECW Dudley's stuff we get in subsequent yearbooks, it is nice to see the genesis of everything.

[1996-04-15-WWF-Raw] Interview: Bret Hart
Bret has always had valid points in my eyes so while he could come across as a little disgruntled, I feel he is vindicated. Good to hear his side of things before he makes his return months down the road.

[1996-04-15-WWF-Raw] Music Video: Sunny
Agree that Sunny has the look and now is being pushed as a sex symbol. Sunny was still really young here considering how long she had been in the business at this point.

[1996-04-15-WWF-Raw] Interview: Jim Cornette & Vader
This was one of the better Cornette WWF promos I could recall with some inside jargin but also a lot of solid storyline stuff.

[1996-04-13-ECW-Massacre on Queens Boulevard] Sabu vs Mikey Whipwreck
Every so often Sabu has that aura to him that produces a great match and feels so different from anything else. He had it in the 2/94 match vs. Funk, the 1/98 Sandman match. This is his 1996 example so far as he feels so reckless and fearless and just has a great stigma to him throughout this match. As a result, I thought this was great and carried the spotfest portion of the match. ***3/4
