[1993-03-27-WCW-Worldwide] Ricky Steamboat & Shane Douglas vs Hollywood Blonds
I ever so slightly prefer the Clash match but what a fun ass feud and a great culmination with the Blondes winning the tag straps. I loved the payoff of the belt shot as the feud as a whole coming full circle after the Blondes used the titles to really escalate things post match back in January. One reason I prefer the Clash match was the extended shine early one which I was waning a little bit of but once the Blondes got on offense, this was great stuff. ***3/4

[1993-03-27-USWA-TV] Interview: Shawn Michaels
Watching the early Raws, Shawn was pretty hidden besides some stuff with Tatanka that didn't really inspire me. Nice to see him branching out and doing more interesting stuff here in USWA going after Jeffrey Jarrett.

[1993-03-27-WWF-Superstars] Jim Duggan vignette
This was better than Duggan's fireside chat as he showed more rationale and reached down into the roots and symbolism of the 2X4 overall.

[1993-03-27-WWF-Superstars] Music Video: Wrestlemania
I will admit that I am nostalgic for the music. In addition, I also noticed the amount of talent that was going on and on about Mania and didn't even appear on the show. Fun stuff.

[1993-03-27-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Mitsuharu Misawa vs Toshiaki Kawada
Wow, this may be the match between these two I am least familiar with actually but I had seen it before. However, this time it really grabbed me and now I am wondering if this, 10/92, or 7/95 is my 2nd favorite match between these two. Just a great match that escalated from sportsmanship to chippiness signifying the change that was occurring in All Japan at the time. Misawa's elbow continues to reign supreme and is treated like the ultimate death blow. I also think Misawa is really fully embracing being the ace at this point and feels like a major star in the way he carries himself. Super stuff. ****1/2

[1993-03-23-NJPW-Hyper Battle] Genichiro Tenryu & Takashi Ishikawa vs Riki Choshu & Tatsumi Fujinami
I seem to be higher on this as I thought it was great and for once Fujinami in the 90's conjured up some of the charisma and skill that made him elite in the 1980's. Ishikawa is also my surprise of the yearbook so far and is rising up the ranks like Yatsu did with me tracking the All Japan 80's stuff. Him getting the pin here felt like a big moment. Choshu vs. Tenryu have interacted a lot by this point and it still feels crackling and amazing when they interact. This was just a blast overall that continued my favorite feud of 1993. ****

[1993-03-22-WWF-Raw] Michael Landon Awards / Andre the Giant tribute
The Vince speech is something else with him calling it the most proud moment of his life. As self-congratulatory as this whole sequence was, I did get a sense that Vince at least believed himself that some of this was true and we got a slightly more genuine view of him than we are used to. The Andre video was awesome and complete class all the way. One of the more touching moments of 1993.

[1993-03-21-NJPW-Hyper Battle] Jushin Liger vs Dean Malenko
A ho hum match that was good overall but feels really dry and bland in this setting compared to all the high-end stuff we have seen this year. Liger overall has been interesting so far. Nothing bad at all with his three matches to this point, but they also were with opponents that you could foreseeable see something great come out of them, so it still left a slight bit of disappointment. ***

[1990-08-03-USWA Texas] Steve Austin vs Chris Adams ('Come As You Are')
I also think the feud was completely different on the level you convey. It has been a couple of years but I never got the sense watching it was nearly as one-sided as you are portraying. Even in the face of 1990 stuff, I thought Lawler in USWA had opponents of a lower level that invoked much more discrepancy in the control of the overall feud.

[1999-02-15-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair and the NWO Part 2
Flair comes back from the attack and gets beat up again to no crowd reaction. Sad and shitty. Worse is the announcers not knowing where he has been. WHAT THE FUCK. Most frustrating Nitro so far on the yearbooks.

[1999-02-15-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair and the NWO
Well this was utterly dumb as shit and really gets us into the complete wrestlecrap era of WCW that I am fearful of revisiting. This stuff is really around the time where I questioned myself as a staunch WCW supporter. Just no rhyme or reason to why this is going on. The camera angle switching is so bad and the helicopter makes no sense with the spotlight showing the other camera crew just toiling around in the swamp. STUPID STUPID STUPID.

[1999-02-14-WWF-St. Valentine's Day Massacre] Steve Austin vs Vince McMahon (Cage)
As my comments in the Diesel vs. Bret cage match show, I hate the hiding under the ring in a cage match gimmick. One of my overall pet peeves in wrestling. That aside, this was worked well with some good cat and mouse, Austin beating Vince's ass, Vince taking that great bump and both guy delivering on their promises. Vinces blade job here should DQ him from making any top 6 list (Grimmas). Fun match but not really a classic in my mind. **3/4

[1999-02-14-WWF-St. Valentine's Day Massacre] The Rock vs Mankind (Last Man Standing)
Why did Shawn have that much clout at this point in time. Anyway, seeing the clips here I am more determined that these two don't really click for me even with the lengthy matches they have had. Only the Rumble match would be put in the upper echelon. The action here particularly looked mundane and the finish was really shitty overall. Rock going over clean would have made him look strong going into Mania.

[1996-04-09-AJW-Champions] Aja Kong & Mima Shimoda vs Manami Toyota & Kaoru Ito
Looks like PeteF skipped this one which I would be interested in as I thought it was a lot of fun and wish we would have seen the front half. Aja looked like a monster and it was cool to see Shimoda team up with someone else besides Mita. Good action and the best Toyota has looked in 1996 so far IMO.

PlacetoBeNation.com
New project started up today where a collection of guys present alternative WrestleMania cards. I know we have some guys here (Boricua and Mick) that enjoy this type of thing. The restrictions set here are pretty complicated and force the "bookers" to think outside the box at points. http://placetobenation.com/the-great-wrestlemania-re-book-wrestlemania/

PWO-PTBN Roundtable - The 100 Best Matches to See Before You Die
Thanks for your comments and listening Mick. I don't know what the next phase of these will be or when as this really does take it out of you with how quickly we recorded parts 2-5. Still, was a lot of fun and some of my favorite podcasts to ever do.

PTBN: WWE Fastlane Reaction Show
http://placetobenation.com/ptbn-reaction-show-wwe-fastlane/ The WWE is on the road to Wrestlemania and we take a pit stop in Memphis for WWE Fast Lane. Will is joined by Kris Zellner, Johnny Sorrow & Pete (Titans of Wrestling) and Dylan Hales (Wrestling Culture). Johnny and Will go Ivan and Nikita on the rest of the panel. Reigns and Bryan tear the house down but how does the booking affect our enjoyment? Did any of the undercard matches deliver? Is anyone looking forward to Wrestlemania after this show? So few answers… so many more questions.
