[1996-01-22-WWF-Raw] Vader vs Savio Vega
I thought this was great too. Vega was competent so seeing him get his ass beat here by Vader really got over the monster Vader was. The attack of the legend that was Monsoon afterwards was one of the last scary kayfabe moments of my childhood and really got Vader over as well. Vince and Cornette played their roles very well. *1/2

[1996-01-21-WWF-Royal Rumble] Bret Hart vs The Undertaker
Final stretch was better for me than I remembered too. I am glad that Bret got rid of that goofy mask of Takers and Diesel is really bringing the attitude.

[1996-01-21-WWF-Royal Rumble] Royal Rumble
I actually thought this was an underated Rumble watching all the ones from 88-02 last year, this would be top 5-6 which is surprising since the finish is pretty much a foregone conclusion. These clips highlighted the big portions of the match I liked besides Vader's destruction and we get good snippets of Owen and Davey still being in the upper mix.

NHO Podcast 2015 Preview
I think the indy stuff is interesting because there isn't a ton of stuff out there for that. Old School WCW is a niche I feel like we have filled at but still shows like Starrcade 89 have had way less discussion devoted to it than Mania 5 or whatever.

General Lucha Set thoughts
Agree with Parv here, think we need to give this at least a few more amount of time and have some type of sustained push to create interest for people to finish.

2014 Match of the Year
Have at it. What was the Match of the Year for 2014? My pick: Ultimo Guerrero vs. Atlantis from the CMLL anniversary show.

Wrestle Kingdom 9
Yep, going to do New Japan World as well as live hopefully. Contemplating the dangerous UFC > WK duo that will put me in a coma the rest off Sunday.

Are current matches just not as memorable or up to par as previous decades?
I think more footage spanning a widening environment of discussion has something to do with this. For example, fifteen years ago most of the WON readership would link onto something Dave really hyped and seek that match out. Now, you have a wide community with people that watch a wide variety of stuff and others on this very forums that havent watched any 2014 New Japan for example. In addition, I think the star power and recycling of finishes has diminshed the memorability of certain matches. 2014 was a down year for tip top matches for me with only 1 ranked at ****3/4. However, 2013 had a few that I had in that area and was up there with many great 'Glory" years. I think it just depends to me on providing something different.

Wrestle Kingdom 9
Pretty excited as last three matches have all produced great matches between those pairings. Tack on some fun stuff in the undercard that could be really good and I think this could be my favorite WK show in the past few years. Most interested in the main as their 1/4/13 match is my least favorite of the series and where I think they went the most epic route. I think a combining of the Invasion Attack and KOPW 2013 matches could produce something special and a MOTYC for 2015. Are you watching this live Shoe?

Wrestling Fan New Years Resolutions For 2015
- Ill be realistic and say 12 WTBBP episodes - FInish the lucha set - Finish the 1993 footage watching - Finish the 1999 footage watching - Finish the 1996 footage watching - Write some articles on full length stuff and contributing including the lucha thing Matt mentioned above - At least keep a working knowledge of the highly hyped stuff in 2015. I felt like a curmudgeon in 2014 as while a lot matches were good in 2014, only Atlantis vs. Ultimo reached ****3/4 for me on a ranking sense which shows overall the tip top quality in the matches were lagging for me. I thought the year was littered with a ton of ***1/2 stuff which is fun to watch but much like 1991 as a year, it doesn't really resonate when looking at entire years as a whole. Also, WWE has completely burned me out and I have very little interest in the product currently.

Wrestling New Years Resolutions <<2014 thread - No more resolutions here>>
Figured I would bump this halfway through the year to see where I stand. 1. Was able to watch all the Rumbles relevant to that series (1988-2002). Sadly made me sort of hate Royal Rumbles as a whole 2. 2.5 discs left of 1997 footage so I am on a good pace mid year 3. 2 discs left of 1991 footage so I am on a good pace mid year 4. Need a solid deadline to give me a kick in the ass to bust through the lucha set 5. Can't win them all as mine/Parv's recording schedule has been ransacked with various items. Who knows what will happen when Chad jr. arrives. 6. 1998 seems like a good choice 7. This has been successful approach for me in some ways from getting completely burnt out on what I think has been a fairly dreadful run booking wise for WWE 8. My spreadsheet is expanding and I feel confident I will be able to knock out a good top 10 list I am comfortable with at year end. I am pleased with how my year ended up. The only ones that didn't work out was the lucha set (Disc 6 with all the trios can be tricky) and the WTBBP stuff (having a baby!). Otherwise, I felt more streamlined and accomplished in my wrestling watching in 2014 and actually started watching three more years of footage as my interest in WWE waned more than it has in the past five years.

[1993-02-01-WWF-Raw] Andre the Giant 10-bell salute
Much like Dave's WON write up of Andre starting changing the shift for handling wrestler deaths, this seemed to change to the way WWF would handle them too.

[1993-01-30-SMW-TV] Rock & Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies
SMW has really impressed me in January building up this RNR vs. Heavenly Bodies match and it still feeling shockingly fresh. I think adding the third team to the mix was genius to keep things uneasy. Stuff becomes more complicated here as Bobby comes out and delivers a great Alabama Jam giving the Bodies the straps. Awesome. **3/4
