A lot of guardrail irish whips. Going through the 2014 G-1, I started a counter and almost every match had at least 1. -
Sunny in a tub. This is Raw. I had no memory of this brawl but it was really good. I love fighting in the elements things in wrestling and them slipping and brawling in the snow was great and I was surprised they ended the show with this. This felt like much more of a feud that the Taker vs. Hart Championship match.

Memphis at its finest. Three guys with a lot of past history being brought up and real emotion and violence being displayed. Doug's delivery and natural charisma pales to Eddie but he can really bring some vindication at times and he feels that way here where I 100% believe he was slighted and justified for what Lawler did. I also especially appreciated the 1987 stuff being brought up. Honestly one of the USWA highlights of the decade so far for me..

I think this has been unfairly criticized at points. It was certainly disjointed at times and neither Volador or Mexicano were great shakes, but man Juvy and especially Psicosis had a death wish in this match. Psicosis did no less than 4-5 crazy bumps to the floor and was a complete loon. I look forward to seeing him in 1996 if this is any indication. Their celebration at the end was great too. (***)

Agree that the luster on Bigelow vs. Goldberg has declined a lot with everything else going on. Finish was fine but I guess Bigelow missed his cue as Goldberg stood there forever and he looked really banged up with his leg and bleeding from the forehead for something. Pretty weak main event and this seems like a throwaway PPV overall.

Man, it is appropriate that Yoshida had a spider web on her tights and that is her moniker as she twisted Akino up here in the early going that I was just in awe. It was a clinic and spectacular to watch. Akino mixed in more of the pro aspects with dives and other high impact moves and I thought Yoshida gave her enough offense before taking it home. I could watch this all day long. (****)

I kept saying to myself that maybe I was overeacting this based on who was involved, but this is truely great stuff. JInsei gives his best performance here being busted open and resilient. Busa continues his hot streak and he is actually someone I am looking forward to now.. HOnda and Izumida were the best third rate heels hitting nasty headbutts and constantly working over JInsei and being great bumpers off the high spots.. All around this was a super great match and one of the big hidden gems in All Japan 1990's. On a side note, this may be All Japans best commercial release. Unless the Misawa vs. Kawada match disappoints 4 out of the 5 matches will be **** or better and the fifth match is Kobashi vs. Vader which isn't too shabby either. I think modern New Japan fans should give this tape a watch as even though these matches were spread out over numerous days, this is a lot of great stuff from a variety of people. (****1/4)

This was good which trust me is a huge improvement over the trough full of shit on the indies around this time. Hitting stuff cleanly and not going TOO far off the beaten path was key here. There still wasn't as much overall story and extended selling as I would have liked but as a simple main event style indy match, it was inoffensive and felt like the Daniels vs. Donovan Morgan battles that plagued the early 2000's. I thought this was great. Ogawa takes some shortcuts here and it pays great dividends including the finish which was amazing, but he also shows more focus on the leg and works this as him gaining some momentum and not feeling quite as over matched as he portrayed himself in the late 98 tags. Kakihara was one of those guys that never offended me when he would show up on puro commercial tapes but he never really impressed me. He did here and had some great strikes and selling. This was a match I had seen about 5 times before but never really watched. (****)

We had some clipping here but the portions were good that we saw and I feel comfortable enough to rank it. Delphin is one of my unheralded wrestlers of the 90's as he has performed well every time he pops up on the yearbooks.. Good to see Naniwa be in a more serious heel role here too as while they did some comedy and miscommunication, he really worked hard to provide the bones of a psychological sound match. January's variety is really infectious and this was another very good match for the month. (***1/4)

In contention for my favorite Battlarts match up to this point. I think the lack of pinfalls and Bat rules actually helped the drama for me as someone was going to be rendered as a KO or submission. The other thing I liked about this match was the parity of all four competitors. I barely recognized Yone without the fro and I assume he was the youngest guy in here but he still held his own and all of the pairings were great and not entirely centered around Ikeda and Ishikawa. Everyone had a chance to shine and delivered big time. (****1/2)

As far as the legend goes the CMLL library is there and it's perfectly complete and perfectly preserved and owned by Televisa (same about AAA). Even when wrestling was banned from TV in Mexico City every Arena Mexico (and many Coliseo shows) were taped for Galavision Europe, the SIN (Spanish International Network) and for a while for a premium cable network that had a short life in the 80s called Cablevision. About a decade ago, perhaps more, there were a few documentaries about lucha history, greatest matches ever, etc., and we could see highlights of things that have never been seen in decades, such as the Fishman vs Sangre Chicana vs Cobarde triangle mask match from 1975 or Atlantis vs El Talisman from 1984 and other "Holy Grials" of lucha libre. I spoke to the guy who had access to those master tapes and he told me that EVERYTHING was there. That's the only proof we have got - Televisa is known was a black hole. They have never really bothered releasing commercially almost anything from their libraries because as soon as you release a DVD for, say, 5 bucks, it will be sold in every street corner bootleg shop for 1 dollar. Maybe Jose you can help me understand the mentality of this but what is the reasoning for keeping this stuff stored in though. I understand the black market that would result from it (I would be one of those people) but some revenue of older footage is better than none right?

Shocked at how much offense Giant got as he single handely took care of the Outsiders until Nash hit the wrench shot. That was actually kind of classy if unexpected. This was a show long arc that worked and I loved Bisch popping up on commentary all of a sudden gloating. They give GIant the beatdown and send off and Hogan is still dressed weirdly and in an overall weird state of mind. I have to say, this Nitro really impressed me. I seemed to recall Nitro really falling off after the fingerpoke and remember being 13 years old and hearing the main event of Superbrawl being Flair vs. Hogan and being like "what the fuck are these old guys still doing that for." In retrospect though, this was mostly a mistake free show that really repaired a lot of the damage from last week if they could have built on it and sustained it. Kudos for WCW for not playing dead as they was extreme backlash from the fingerpoke angle even though the internet wasn't as wide spread at the time.
