[1998-05-20-ECW-TV] Taz and Bam Bam Bigelow
Elks Lodge is always my favorite ECW venue. The FTW belt seems stupid to me and a bitch thing for Taz to do while Douglas is presumably on the bench. Speaking of which, ECW is suffereing from the same WCW problems as multiple guys are feuding making the focus become blurred. Hopefully, we can hone in on Bam Bam vs. Taz in earnest as the pull apart here was good and heated.

[1998-05-19-FMW-Neo FMW] Hayabusa vs Masato Tanaka
I am really conflicted on this one. I didn't think the blowing of the limb work and bomb throwing was as egregious and outrageous as their March match as Hayabusa did get his leg worked over some but not to an extent where I think he should have sold it the whole match. Tanaka not being able to utilitize the Sliding D played into the finish. However, with those positives, there was a lot of diminishing returns as they went through multiple bombs and nearfalls. Match was satisfactory, I just prefer spotfests with juniors and in a multi-man structure for a logic standpoint. Bahu has this as the #2 FMW match of all time which is telling as it was not in my upper FMW matches we have seen from 1998 so far. (***1/4)

[1998-05-18-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin vs Pat Patterson & Gerald Brisco
I had wondered what had happened to poor Sarge and he is still a lackey for Vince here. The match is good fun with Brisco and Patterson having a ball and JR getting in a rear end joke on Patterson's expense. The finish results when Austin stuns everyone and attacks Dude Love to huge reaction before Vince dressed as a Stone Cold fan hits Austin with a chair and Raw goes off the air with Austin laid out and Vince looking proud of himself. [1998-05-18-WWF-Raw] Jerry Lawler and Al Snow
The big reveal for lawler is Al SNow. Snow starts rambling on and Jerry starts double thinking the logic of having him in the booth so he finds a ringside seat for him. Logical way for these two to advance what happened to each of them seperatly last week.

[1998-05-18-WWF-Raw] Interview: Vince McMahon & Dude Love
Another great table setting promo by Vince and Co for the rest of the night. Dude's promo was really good but just watch Vince's emotions as he goes through the chain of events that will happen at Over the Edge. Tremendous character work. Dustin not being forgotten is smart to and I do wish to see the match vs. Dude as they have built Dustin up well the past couple of weeks.

[1998-05-17-WCW-Slamboree] Randy Savage vs Bret Hart
This isn't the type of match that hurts each candidate for GOAT status but it is not a great match and really doesn't feel as special as it should. An underrrated tidbit of 1998 is that Savage has been in the semi main or main event of each PPV. Bret does do a good job at conveying hate withing the confines of the match but Piper was useless and Elizabeth begins her perpetual role of just being there when they need her. Good to see Bret at least get the win but there is still no rhyme or reason of why he is aligned with Hogan. (***)

[1998-05-17-WCW-Slamboree] Cruiserweight Battle Royal / Chris Jericho vs Dean Malenko
This is one of my favorite things ever in wrestling and a brillant piece of storytelling. Juvi being the cheerleader and stepping over leading to the reveal and Malenko immediately putting the boots to Jericho never gets old. I liked that Jericho was kept relatively strong and not entirely squashed in this match. The pop for the tap out was outstanding. Not a great match in its own right, but this is a lock to be my #100 at year end. (**3/4)

[1998-05-17-WCW-Slamboree] Chris Benoit vs Fit Finlay
Really good stuff and a perfect opener. They crafted a good story and the announcers were right there to put the action and intensity over. I enjoyed the resourcefulness FInlay showed and how he took advantage of Benoit being distracted by Booker T. Big win for him and the tombstone finisher looked nasty. Looking forward to Booker vs. Benoit too and this match was the typically roll out of bed very good match for these two. (***1/2)

[1998-05-16-ECW-A Matter of Respect] Taz and the Triple Threat
Francines dress.... wowza. Shane is really banged up but they try to keep him in the picture. Taz music hits and he bitches out a fan that said he sucked. I hate stuff like that. Taz saying he will protect the Triple Threat to keep Shane healthy until he takes the belt is decent logic but the Triple Threat was way too gullible. Sure enough Taz attacks the arm and Bigelow looked awful making the save and then getting taken down by Taz.

[1998-05-16-ECW-A Matter of Respect] Tracy Smothers & Little Guido vs Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney
This is nothing that will be on my top 100 but was a lot of fun. Meanie was a bloody mess with the chairshots and escorted to the back. I also loved the FBI tribute to the recently passed Frank Sinatra by dancing to New York New York. The tag match breaks into a little strutcture and is a lot of fun while it lasts with Smothers in particular working hard and the Big Don being great as usual. Good undercard stuff. (**1/2)

[1998-05-16-ECW-A Matter of Respect] Jamie Dundee promo
Wow, Jamie is my favorite ECW personality after one promo. Getting legit heat from the ECW crowd and shitting on Hat Guy to boot.

[1998-05-14-WCW-Thunder] Quest For Camelot promotion
To celebrate the first animated feature, we get a real life character handing out T Shirts. This was dumb and I ve never heard of the movie so I am wondering what the box office numbers looked like.

[1998-05-11-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin & Vince McMahon vs The Rock & D-Lo Brown
Fun match that shows The Rock's growth as a worker. The match builds to Austin needing a hot tag for Vince. Of course, he gives him the double bird and decides to go at it alone. The ending melee was a good out of control segment with JR having a great call as the show closes another hot edition of Raw.
