[1991-12-12-SWS-Superwrestle in Tokyo Dome] Hulk Hogan vs Genichiro Tenryu
This had an epic feel with the intros and opening hand shake with the buzz around the crowd. We get the mat work that only results from Hogan in Japan or pre-Shiek WWF. This match did have a good bit of resets but I liked it in the sense of neither man wanting to make a cardinal mistake. Hulk even gets a little punk slap against Tenryu's face to rile up the crowd. This opens things up and we are off to the races from there. Hogan using the big boot is something else and it transitions into him locking in a chinlock. Tenryu starts taking more chances with diving kicks and getting caught inside. Hogan hits a flying knee! but injures himself in the process which I absolutely adored. Tenryu seizes his chance and uses a chair on the outside. Now he has control and he works Hogan over with the crowd buzzing. This match isn't that long but tells a wonderful, complete story. Bombs start coming out and the nearfall with Hulk counting along had everyone biting as the finish. Tenryu catches the boot and Hulk does an enzuiguri which amazed me. Tenryu again makes him pay for being cocky by going after the injured limb. Hogan gets the best of an exchange and allows Tenryu to kick out of the legdrop which again shocked me. One more enzuguri from hogan and three clotheslines has Tenryu on dream street and allows Hogan the victory. Up there with the Desert Storm match, Flair at BATB, and the Backlund 80 match as the best Hogan matches I have seen. A match every North American fan should watch.

[1991-12-08-AJW] Aja Kong & Bison Kimura vs Toshiyo Yamada & Kyoko Inoue
I think I liked this better slightly than the other match but they are close together and yet another *** 1/2 match in the glut of them in 1991. Feels like something weird to complain about and I am not per say, but there has been a ton of them this year. JJ really took it to Kyoko and Yamada but I liked all the openings that Yamada took when they could. The brawling through the crowd was getting long in the tooth but we cut quickly to Yamada in the ring a glimmer of hope and I was invested in that point forward.

- [1991-12-08-AJW] Akira Hokuto & Bull Nakano vs Aja Kong & Bison Kimura
I liked but didnt love this and was a little let down given the combatants. First off, my god it took Aja forever to come out to the ring. The match had a lot of good sequences but didn't really have an overarching theme that drew me in. Hokuta almost died on her moonsault as well. Jungle Jack advance to the final match later on in the evening.- 1994 - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
Owen vs. Bret feels like the top feud of the year throughout. The Lesile Nelson stuff is snippets and definitely had some tv time, but Owen vs. Bret were given extended interview time and many different nuances to their feud throughout the year.- [1991-12-08-Monterrey] Trio Fantasia vs Los Thundercats
Whoa, people didn't dig this? I am not one of those "wrestling has to be fun" type of guys but fuck if this wasnt one of the most fun matches I have seen. Weird ass costumes, blood, mask ripping, post shots, big dives that build up to the third fall. I don't want much more from my lucha trios than that. Definite gem that I have never seen before and instantly became one of my favorite matches of all time.- [1991-12-08-NJPW] Hiroshi Hase vs Tiger Jeet Singh (Island Death)
- [1991-12-07-WCW-Saturday Night] Sting vs Rick Rude
This looked really hot. I was alarmed at Sting's timing in this match. The press slam > plancha > grabbing Paul E's phone > catching Madusa > selling the leg was an intricate minute where he was in the exact right spot during all of this. Would have loved to have seen an extended clash match or even PPV match between these two.- [1991-12-07-USWA-Memphis TV] Eric Embry and Tom Prichard
I may take back what I said two posts ago because the way they inter-weaved the Pritchard feud with Embry's new love interest was done well here. I always love when they emphasize a big move done in the studio to put over an attack.- 6 replies

- [1991-12-07-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler vs Kamala
Fun long studio style match. kamala takes a lot of the match and Jerry does a good job selling for it. Things spill to the outside for a bit setting up the mayhem of the finish. The nearfalls off of the splash was really well done. Kamala loses it and starts attacking Frank Morell but this just allows Jerry to make his comeback. Great kickout by Kamala too off of some big punches. Kamala spills to the outside again and the match breaks down with Kamala and his "attendant" attacking Jerry. Jerry uses an equalizer with a fireball and Kamala bails. The explanation by Eddie Marlin was amazing and great attention to detail only USWA and Memphis does at times. I enjoyed this immensely.- 8 replies

- [1991-12-07-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Eric Embry
Embry has a makeover more than just his appearance as he is head over heels for CJ. Tony Falk putting up his short hair doesn't feel that consequential and they blow it off anyway. Interested to see where this goes from an Embry character perspective but I think he needs to be removed from the Pritchard feud as quick as possible.- 7 replies

- [1991-12-07-WWF-Superstars] Update: Jack Tunney declares the WWF World title vacant, winner of the Royal Rumble will be the new champion
Really important update as Tunney acts swift and stern with his ruling that the title is vacant. Survivor Series coming out just in time for Christmas is a smart marketing ploy. The Rumble feels like a huge event already in early December. Bravo WWF.- 6 replies

I agree that the opening really reeled me in, really everything up until the Maeda false finish kick. Then, I was shocked to see him kind of just abruptly end the match from there. I understand that the way the match was set up, it could have ended at any time, however I was still left disappointed. Han does look great in this though and maeda hangs right with him. I agree that this would be a good starting off point for RINGS and it is my barometer of a great match in 1991.- 12 replies

- [1991-12-06-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Mitsuharu Misawa & Toshiaki Kawada vs Steve Williams & Terry Gordy
I agree somewhat with Charles on MVC but do think of them more highly on average than he does as almost every rating JDW throws out above, I am a 1/4 * to 1/2 * higher. The opening of this mixed in some more fire than in other MVC which helped carried it for me. Good strike exchanges between Gordy and Misawa/Kawada and we see the beginnings of the good/great chemistry Doc/Kawada have in 1994. I do think Doc is the worst in this match and most of the match being brought down is down by him grabbing a chinlock or working a hold. Match does heat up a lot in the last ten minutes with Misawa saving Kawada multiple times. In the end, this match feels like the majority of 1991, entertaining and good but not really groundbreaking.- [1997-11-28-FMW] Hayabusa & Masato Tanaka vs Mr Gannosuke & W*ING Kanemura
Good tag match sounds pretty nondiscript but I thought that fits this match perfectly and it is a compliment to FMW overall that they had this good of a mostly traditional tag sprinkling in some hardcore segements. I really enjoyed the heel team in this and they worked well against the contrasting styles of both Busa and Tanaka. Finish built to a crescendo as well.- [1997-11-27-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Mitsuharu Misawa & Jun Akiyama vs Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue
Really liked this match and the way it was set up with Akiyama getting taken out early and Taue/Kawada showing off their dick heel tendencies unleashing some prick violence on Misawa and then Akiyama's damaged back. We just saw Misawa look like the ace and the man in the FMW tag, so seeing him get beat up badly here was a treat. Stretch Plum being used as the finish was smart for the play on the back work and also good at getting over that submission as a finish. I have really enjoyed this tag league. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a password protected forum. I did make sure I could download the show after Johnny P said he couldn't and loved hearing you ask Dylan about Bryan Daniel and in classic Schneider form he asked if you were having a stroke.- [1997-11-27-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue vs Kenta Kobashi & Johnny Ace
Finish looked good, wouldnt mind watching this in full just to see more Ace vs. Taue stuff. Predictable draw in a way but given the clip job, the bell ringing didnt feel all that telegraphed.- Money in the Bank 2014 Reaction Show w/ Will, Dylan, Johnny, Kris and Phil
Don't want to derail this thread even more since I havent listened to the pod yet, but I do love that Thatcher vs. Busick match a ton that it wants me to do the Evolve tripleshot in August.- Money in the Bank 2014 Reaction Show w/ Will, Dylan, Johnny, Kris and Phil
