[1991-09-07-AJW] Manami Toyota vs Toshiyo Yamada
I had a hard time getting into this. It started out very generic with back and forth and both competitors jockeying for position. When Yamada took over the leg work, things picked up and the build to the finish left a frantic pace but the opening 7-8 minutes made it a really tough time for me to become invested. I had high hopes coming in and still think it was a good match but also a match with some great themes and ideas that didn't come together all the way.

[1991-09-06-CMLL] Konnan vs Perro Aguayo vs Cien Caras (Hair vs Hair vs Hair)
I understand the significance and why this was on the set but it bored me to tears. I was disappointed because I am a Perro and Cien guy so I hoped to see some spark but even their sequences seemed disjointed and weirdly paced. Perro's haircut was only redeeming quality for me.

[1991-09-05-WCW-Clash of the Champions XVI] Rick Steiner & Bill Kazmaier vs The Enforcers
They really rushed this one as they were pushed for time. I understand Bill is injured but christ he could have done something here. He just stands on the apron with a thumb up his ass while his partner is getting double teamed. When he does tag in, he gets immediately beaten. Epic fail for him tonight.

[1991-09-05-WCW-Clash of the Champions XVI] Contract Signing: Lex Luger vs Ron Simmons
The boys and club speech and taking the kids to the Omni was a little much. The chauffeur line was also annoying and didn't really fit the tone of this entire feud. I think they could have made a great personal feud between the two and their athletic background but they didn't have the creativity to put it all together.

[1991-09-05-WCW-Clash of the Champions XVI] Sting and Cactus Jack
Cactus cuts a good interview and him hugging the box thinking it was Abby was funny until Sting came out showing a lot of fire. I respect Cactus to a extent for the bumps here but it again goes into the inherit problem I have with his character sometimes. If he is able to survive a hiptoss to the floor and get right up, how does that make the other heels in the promotion look? Still this feels like WCW #1 feud by a safe margin at the moment.

[1991-09-05-WCW-Clash of the Champions XVI] Bill Kazamier and The Enforcers
I did like that they showed the Guiness book showing Kazamier was in there. The steel rod thing was impressive if not gimmicked but the crowd did not give a shit and Eric has to plead with them to cheer Bill on. Good angle with Enforcers and I love them from this time frame and it set up the main event.

[1991-09-05-WCW-Clash of the Champions XVI] Sting vs Johnny B. Badd
I thought this match was a lot better than I anticipated based on the clips. They were putting over Badd being undefeated and Sting was having a good run as "the most popular babyface in WCW run" without actually being the champ. The gift box is a little hokey but presents a good avenue for Cactus to come out crazily and drop some great moves onto Sting. The elbow from second turnbuckle still looks vicious. Abby debuting must make the errata.

[1997-10-05-WWF-Badd Blood] Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker (Hell in a Cell)
One of the better matches of the 1990's in WWF to me. Story played out perfectly with Taker taking his time and straight up dismantling Shawn in the early going. Shawn gets a little bit of a comeback and then gets cocky and believes too much in himself which certainly is believable. Then we get the great opening that he sees to escape by attacking the camerman. The bump he takes on the table looks great and the bladejob was awesome. Beautiful receipt of the chair storyline we have been following since August. Tag on the horror show ending and the feud seeming like Taker got his revenge even though Shawn wins and we have a super match all around.

[1991-09-04-AJPW-Summer Action Series II] Stan Hansen vs Kenta Kobashi
Man, what an unheralded feud sometimes. Everyone knows about 7/93 but the other matches between these two seem to get shafted sometime. When the 96 match is probably their 4th best together, it is a great series. This started out well with the lariat and Joe Higouchi doing his best referee work refusing to work. Kobashi wisely rolls to the floor but of course Stan keeps on pounding him. Kobashi's comeback really had me going here especially with the moonsault nearfall. I don't want to make this a current wrestling debate and I do like Okada but the way Hansen hit the lariat on the outside to regain control was so much more believable and effective to me than some of the Rainmaker spots I have seen in the past two years. Kobashi was a defeated man once that happened but he took Hansen to the edge and Hansen knew it. My #4 MOTY so far.

[1991-09-04-AJPW-Summer Action Series II] Mitsuharu Misawa & Toshiaki Kawada vs Jumbo Tsuruta & Akira Taue
All of the submission stuff and the Misawa arm stuff plays off in this match. This was a match that kept building and building and I was unsure of the endgame until it slapped me across the face with the shocking submission. So glad I was able to come in spoiler free and this felt like a refreshing take on how to build up the next chapter of Jumbo vs. Misawa and friends. One of my favorite matches of the year so far.

[1991-08-31-WWF-Superstars] Funeral Parlor: Bobby Heenan
Bobby waxes poetically about Flair and has the big gold to back it up. Good lord, I can appreciate WWF trying some new advance camera shots but the edit from Piper leaving the booth to showing up on set was too much. Flair vs. Piper seems to be pushed into drive as a program to bridge the gap to the inevitable Hogan feud.

[1991-08-30-JWP] Devil Masami vs Itsuki Yamazaki
Wonderful visuals from Devil. She is a great delight to watch every time I see her in the same vein Satanico and Fujiwara. The arm work she presented here was really snug and engaging but the match really kicked into overdrive once the leg work started. The end portion of this match felt like the perfect template of how to do moves while still selling damage and the upset win legit shocked me. Really enjoying this show so far.

[1991-08-30-JWP] The Scorpion vs Cutie Suzuki
I'm with Pete as I thought this was fabulous. The armwork Cutie did on Scorpion was especially painful. I just put this on to curiously watch during the recording a podcast and ended up watching it around 3 times in a row. Really fun stuff and Scorpion seems like she may be a discovery worker.

[1991-08-26-WWF-Summerslam] A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN
Looks like I jumped the gun on crowd pleasing comments that others have touched on. Really the ultimate babyface booking show in the Garden. My mom was pumped for this wedding and it didn't disappoint and hit on the right tones without it being drawn out. "The Ring Bearer is really a midget" had me cracking up. The reception footage is really well done with JJ Dillion, Sid, and a even a clowning of Hennan. The angle is of course completely over the top but it is shocking how Taker just arrives once Liz shrieks and it carries a chaotic tone throughout the rest of 1991.

[1991-08-26-WWF-Summerslam] A MATCH MADE IN HELL
We come in right as Warrior makes the hot tag to Hogan. He chases the managers to the back and is presumably fired on the spot. Hogan wins it for his team. I did like Piper asking where Warrior was in the post match and Sid is quite the awkward poser. This may be the most crowd pleasing show in WWF/E PPV history.
