[1997-07-21-WWF-Raw] Interview: Paul Bearer
Paul presents Kane's charred half of the statue to prove he is alive. Paul and Ross' interaction is always good stuff.

[1997-07-21-WWF-Raw] Bret Hart and Vince McMahon
Everything from when Bret snaps the headset off is magic. HHH vs. The Patriot being the match is kind of fitting too. Bret and Vince then have an intense lock up and a camera man even gets beat up. The Patriot tries to stop it but gets stomped for his troubles. Amazing stuff.

[1997-07-21-WWF-Raw] Interview: Shawn Michaels
Shawn really was great here as one of the most smug bastards ever to be in wrestling. Every now and then Shawn can go a little too far Vince proclaims. Shawn is added to the flag match and also announces himself as the special referee. I remembered the WWF sputtering a little bit after Canadian Stampede but this has been great stuff.

[1997-07-21-WWF-Raw] Hart Foundation and Steve Austin
Spirited promo by Bret now that they are back in canada. Bulldog and Owen give secondary promos setting up their matches at SummerSlam. Austin interrupts. You say this is God's country but this is nothing but a living hell. He accepts the challenge for the flag match later tonight.

[1997-07-21-WWF-Raw] Brackus vignette
This vignette already looks dated from everything else going on in the WWF.

Where the Big Boys Play #54
I have same exact rankings as Loss except I may be persuaded to switch Capital Combat and Starrcade 89. I will say when I watched the 1990 YouTube footage, I had the Capital Combat match ranked 99 and the Clash match ranked 92 but the Cap Combat loss a little bit in my eyes on rewatch and Clash gained a good bit because of the sprint nature of the match and how bad almost everything else on the card was.

Where the Big Boys Play #54
So far the only feuds I would have ahead are: 1. Flair vs. Steamboat 2. Flair vs. Garvin (think we have went over this one but I would have it before Flair vs. Luger simply because I think the Garvin title change match is better than any Flair vs. Luger match) 3. Flair vs. Funk (shorter than others but packed a lot of punch) It is in contention with Tully/TA and Fantastics vs. MX. I think the things in favor of Flair vs. Luger is that they had an all timer classic match (Wrestlewar) and at least two more matches I would classify as great (Starrcade 88, Clash 12). Their other matches are still very good and really different from one another including who was the face/heel like in the Starrcade 1989 match.

[1997-07-21-WAR] Genichiro Tenryu vs Yoji Anjo
This match was almost the same length as the one preceeding it but it felt like a more contained full story. Anjo is a good prick to go up against Tenryu and dare I say make Tenryu seem a little sympathetic.

[1997-07-21-GAEA] Toshiyo Yamada vs Kaoru
Fine match that may be worse in retrospect to the other shoot style stuff going on in the year. This was just starting to really crank up and then it ended. Good match but not much more than that.

Current WWE
It was basically the same match the Shield have every week. Are you saying this like it is a good or bad thing?

[1991-08-17-USWA-Memphis TV] Jeff Jarrett & Dirty White Girl vs Eric Embry & Miss Texas / Interview: Eric Embry
Action looked good and what I thought would be a swerve for the one of the guys getting their head shaved actually did apparently result in Ms. Texas getting hers shaved. Embry seems to be more impassioned with Jarrett than Lawler now which seems odd but they hype up a hair vs. hair match for the upcoming week.

[1991-08-17-WWF-Superstars] Update: Ric Flair is WWF bound
It is surreal to think of the context of 1990 and 1991 yearbook as well as my WCW watching for the podcast to hear Ric Flair named by Mean Gene and see Hennan holding the belt. Crazy shit.

[1991-08-16-CMLL] Blue Panther & Javier Cruz & Pierroth Jr vs El Dandy & Apolo Dantes & Black Magic
This was an awesome match. I really liked the Dandy/Panther sequence and am so depressed they didn't have an extended singles series that made tape. The pierroth vs. Dandy stuff was very good too. I liked how each fall here felt like a self contained story within the match. My top trios so far in the year.

[1997-07-19-GAEA] Toshie Uematsu vs Yoshiko Tamura
Was hard to ignore the hype for this one. It is really hard for me to give a ***** to something I feel uninvested in going into the match. I feel like that I have seen too many matches in my lifetime that the notoriety should at least be vaguely there. I had at least a base knowledge of Dandy/Satanico and others whose matches I have given high regards to. This was a match I knew Loss raved about but couldn't distinguish one competitor from the other until the introductions. I also had felt a slight disconnect with joshi overall. Watching the 1994 yearbook put its interest at a high level for me but the majority of the 1990 and 1991 left me wanting a little more. The match these two crafted in under 20 minutes is nothing short of extraordinary. A relentless pace with an emotional, heart felt story intertwining it all. Toshie's leg selling and work on it was awe inspiring. She gripped and dug deep for everything and I was fairly crushed at her defeat in the end. Tamura had a secondary role in this match but I don't want to slight her as this would have only been really good to great if she hadn't kept up the intensity level as well. Her reversals and the crab looked brutal. This feels like the ultimate workrate match in that their was a lot of "stuff" to this match but it had a deep, meaninngful story that enriched the action and created an vehicle of investment for the viewer. This WCW title feels like a monomental event both women are willing to sacrifice their bodies for. The bottomless pit each is able to reach down to continue and strive for their objective. Powerful stuff and really made me hit youtube seeking out more from each. My #3 MOTY so far and would be #1 if not for IMO the best match of all time and the best WWF match of all time.

[1997-07-19-ECW-TV] Pulp Fiction
One of the worst Pulp Fictions I have seen as it does good hyping up the ECW arena show but feels bloated overall. The highlight was the Corny/Lawler promos and I do like RVD's gimmick around this time even if they are teasing dissension with him and Sabu way too early.

[1997-07-19-ECW-TV] Shane Douglas & Francine promo
Francine looked great here. This was one of my favorite Douglas promos. The way he wraps the logic of him purposely losing to Taz to challenge Funk sounds like the type of twisted logic an egomaniac like him would believe.

[1997-07-19-USWA-TV] PG-13 vs Flash Flanagan & Steven Dunn / PG-13 promo
Pg-13 wins the titles and gives a spirited promo. USWA is hanging on but it does feel kind of odd that this company and IWA-MS exist in the same world.

[1997-07-14-WCW-Nitro] Lex Luger, Sting and the NWO
I liked the visual that this Sting looked completely fake at first but turned out to be the real one. Luger gives a very good face promo challenging Hogan beforehand.

[1997-07-14-WCW-Nitro] Interview: NWO
Nash in a wheelchair claiming injury feels cheap but works because of the way they ham it up. Nash is great laughing and carrying on in the role. We also have Muto/Chono in the background. Dibiase has quietly erased from the screen.

[1997-07-14-WCW-Nitro] DDP, Randy Savage and La Parka
Nice nod as Kimberly gives the diamond cutter symbol to La Parka as he comes down. This allows DDP to come in and attack Savage until Hennig lays him out. The interview with Hennig was pretty good but Flair looks pretty desperate in his depiction here.

[1997-07-14-WCW-Nitro] World Premiere of the Nitro Girls

[1997-07-14-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin & ?? vs Owen Hart & Davey Boy Smith
I had forgotten all about this but it was amazing. The expression from Austin makes it for me and this feels like his first absolute babyface moment as he poses on the turnbuckle and shake Dude's hand. Great stuff all around.
