[1991-03-21-NJPW-Starrcade in Tokyo] Rick & Scott Steiner vs Hiroshi Hase & Kensuke Sasaki
My distaste for the Steiners is pretty well known by now so I was not expecting much from this. It actually may have been better than I would have thought going in as I thought it was a very good all action type match. MOTY is pretty lol worthy but I think we all could have predicted that coming in already.

[1991-03-21-NJPW-Starrcade in Tokyo] Sting vs Great Muta
I agree that the psychology was a little wonky for this match and not a ton made sense at time but there is just something about these two in the ring together that always feels like a comic book coming to life. This is nothing that I would call great or even good but it certainly was fun to me and I think these two together are a great special attraction match for a card.

[1991-03-18-WWF-Primetime Wrestling] Roddy Piper and Ted DiBiase
I was wondering the same thing about the motorcycle injury. Great stuff all around and this feels like the third most important match for mania ahead of the IC and Tag titles. In fact, I don't know how much there was to it but Nasties vs. Harts based on yearbook footage was around #6 on card importance.

[1991-03-09-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Terry Funk
Quite the promo from Funk. Completely off the rails at points and on point at others. Fun stuff.

[1991-03-16-USWA-Memphis TV] Eric Embry, Tom Prichard, Terry Funk and Jerry Lawler
Kings gear in the MSC match is terrible. I feel conflicted with the Fargo stuff because it does pay off Funk's promo but it does cheapen the unified title since as I have commented before, Funk has actually stabilized. Funk throwing everything was sick. Match overall looks at least to be a great spectacle like their first two matches we have. Finish pissed me off and didn't set well since it didn't feel as much like Funk got his comeuppance as he was screwed. This honestly should have been Lawlers biggest win since he beat Von Erich. Brawl back in the studio is a good one and this was a fine way for the Hangman to make their presence known.

[1991-03-16-WWF-Superstars] Queen of England
I remember the knighting of Hennan so vividly. Pretty fun reveal of the Queen with Hennan.

[1991-03-16-WWF-Superstars] Interview: Hulk Hogan
Time for Hogan to pump the last bit of hype in Mania and it seems weird seeing Hogan in a live setting as most of his stuff has been in the green screen. I also liked the lack of interaction Hogan and Slaughter had with each other besides the Main Event stuff. I still havent found this angle as tasteless as the hype it receives.

[1991-03-16-WCW-Pro] Interview: Ric Flair
I liked this promo and do wish one of these cage matches would surface. This felt more like some 80's big time Ric than most of his stuff since he lost the belt to Sting at GAB 90.

[1991-03-15-WWF-MSG, NY] Marty Jannetty vs Pat Tanaka
Pretty blah stuff. I think this match looks real bad coming right off the heels of Liger vs. Honaga because that was a simple match but executed much better. Tanaka is a guy in general I feel Im lower than a lot on.

[1991-03-15-USWA Texas] Steve Austin vs Gary Young (Coal Miner's Glove)
Young as a face still seems weird to hear but he does garner a good response from the crowd. Austin is pretty much in his WCW gear by now with the robe and all. I thought this match was solid for a show opener but nothing I will remember a year from now. Pritchard has really established himself as a big name.

[1991-03-14-NJPW-Big Fight Series] Jushin Liger vs Norio Honaga
Along with the consensus that this was a nice find and if it is the first of things to come, I welcome it. Honaga started the match off hot and remained focus on his attack of Liger. They also did a great job in making the upset seem logical but not predictable. Bolsters the case that there was some variety in 1990 New Japan junior matches.

Wrestlers Who Were More "Over" Than Their Push
I would throw Benoit into this category to from around 1996-1999. He was getting consistently very good to great responses that rivaled main eventers from Great American Bash 1996 on. Yet, he didn't main event a PPV until November 1999 and even in that match with Bret Hart, he was treated like an up and comer on the brink of stardom.

[1990-06-15-NWA-Power Hour] Louisville Slugger: Fabulous Freebirds
I think most of the hate from the Freebirds results from the fact that most people posting on message board's today are not that familar with their Texas stuff and just have a working knowledge of their feud with the Von Erichs. Even though they still had some good matches, The Freebirds from 1989 was one of the lamest and most dated wrestling acts I can remember.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
As someone that vaguely follows Chikara, I must say that while I am intrigued by what happens on Sunday, I find these theories and time travel stuff confusing as hell.

[1991-03-11-WWF-Primetime Wrestling] Jake Roberts in the studio
These sweaters look like Christmas 1991 in my household. Amazing segment that shows how valuable both Jake and Bobby are. I know this is the first year where I remember a lot of this stuff but so far I have enjoyed the character arcs and personas of 1991 more than any year I can recall. Showing us how the blindfold match would work was great and Hennan gets his payoff.
