Having trouble getting through the AWA set?
The Martel match may require a rewatch. You are just coming down off the awesomeness of the two matches preceeding and the riot so it took some getting used to the technical wrestling going on. Jack Benny I think is in the Milton Berle zone for me. Someone I have heard of but couldn't really tell you what he did (radio, TV host, movies?) and haven't seen anything he has done.

Having trouble getting through the AWA set?
I loved the test of strength with being able to see the muscles flexing and struggle. EDIT: However, you can't deny prime joke opportunity for Johnny, Dave, and Will with what was going on.

Having trouble getting through the AWA set?
Its firmly at the bottom of my list as we speak. This format does make the matches go by and with it being AWA (commentary sucks) the only real thing you miss is a little bit of ambience from the crowd. That riot at the end of the taped fist match is amazing.

WCW's Highway to Hell
I know personally I will have to do some soul searching after Russo's rant at BATB 2000 when we get there.

[1990-12-08-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Michael Wallstreet and Terry Taylor
Wallstreet gearing up for another big push. They really tried to push this guy from 1988-1990. The pull apart here was good but even though I have not seen the match in years, I am not picturing it as a vicious brawl. I wonder if they knew at this time that Terrence would soon become the cornerstone of the York Foundation.

[1990-12-08-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Rip Rogers vs Brian Pillman
Another good match for these two in 1990. I think Rogers does real well in knowing his role and making himself an important ingredient in a match without overbearing or stealing the spotlight from the opponent. In the early going he takes all of Pillmans dives really well. His offense in this match looked good but was not too flashy to overpower Pillman's strengths. I did miss the short headbutts he had been throwing though. So far with Rogers he has seemed like someone that needs someone to go with him and he can produce a great match. When he has been with capable opponents, I have enjoyed the matches. I didn't like the Maritimes match because of the lack of stuff Rogers' opponent did.

Downtown Bruno brings a different edge to commentary than you are used to in Memphis and is very good. The match is a lot of stalling but is fun while it lasts and they actually go to a break and come back which is I think the first time that has happened on the set. Kierns return the territory was met as a big deal and he did a great run in.

I just can't believe this played out for MONTHS. You would think surely after the Clash or Havoc at the latest it would just be dropped. An embarrassment for everyone involved.

Where the Big Boys Play #34
Thanks Brain, it was good to take a week off but I am itching to get back to it this weekend. In many ways Halloween Havoc 90 is the perfect WCW show, some great southern wrestling, some good brawl matches, and a whole lot of stupid.

[1990-12-07-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Stan Hansen & Dan Spivey vs Steve Williams & Terry Gordy
I loved the idea of the previous match being sort of a sprint but I hope it wasn't at the expense of making this match overly long. Just heatless work, too many momentum shifts, and around 15 minutes too long. Only part I really enjoyed was some of the work on hansen at the halfway point and the ending was pretty good. Disappointing last match for All Japan in 1990.

[1990-12-07-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Mitsuharu Misawa & Toshiaki Kawada vs Jumbo Tsuruta & Akira Taue
Man Jumbo was a bastard in this. I loved the elbow he gave Misawa at the end when Misawa did a running charge at him on the apron. This was his fuck you that he was not going to be caught off guard. I also liked him directing Taue to do his dive tot he outside on Kawada. Great sprint match with a molten crowd and Kawada picks up a big win for his team and has solidified himself as a player. Great match.

We haven't discussed those but i wouldn't be opposed to doing them when we get there in 2015.
