Top Ten U.S. All Time
rvd you won my over talking about hash/Zangiev. Welcome aboard. I know Dylan disagrees with this but I still say lucha is not for everyone and really only besides joshi do I see a style that is harder to infiltrate. I consider myself a lucha novice but have watched a fair share and still a pondering whether Atlantis being very technico-ish in his apuesta match vs. Kung Fu was the norm and if not why they hell did he initiate the mask ripping and rudo spots.

Nick Bockwinkel
Flair pretty much gets his ass beat in the Hawk matches on GAB 86 and at Bunkhouse Stampede 88.

[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Sting vs Sid Vicious
Windham has always looked good as the fake Sting and based on the camera angles you cant really tell shit. I think the crowd for this show was hit or miss mostly. Action here is not great but not terrible either. Stings run was really doomed by this point.

Have any written thoughts on the Garvin cage match from GAB 87?

The Boss, Man is he Big
Does anyone have any post 1996 Boss Man recs? He defintely looked like he could still go in 1994. I don't know why the attitude era is such a blind spot for me recalling matches of guys. Jarrett is the same way. Fuck if I can tell you one of his matches in detail from 1997 through his TNA matches with Angle.

[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Ric Flair & Arn Anderson vs Doom
The PPV crowds seem to be shitting on the Doom matches but that doesn't stop me from enjoying them. I liked this a good deal and think in compares favorably to the Demolition/Rockers match I watched right before it. Anderson/Flair work well as a team and Flair looks big time in this match without having to 'lower" himself by being in a tag match on a PPV.

1990 Drinking Game
I would add the caveat to finish your drink every time you get an unexpectedly great USWA promo from someone. Two of my favorite promos of the year has been Eddie Marlin right before the USWA tournament and Dave Brown going off on Eddie Gilbert for him saying that Jerry Jarrett pays him extra to put over Jeff.

[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Rick & Scott Steiner vs Nasty Boys
Really interesting structure to this match with the ferocious start and then the reigning in with some great body work by the nasties leading to the chaotic finish. I am loving all of these Steiner matches at this point in 1990 where they leave to dopey dog barking shit at home and just throw down and also sell appropriately. Really great match and I don't know what it is about the nasties and the UIC Pavilion but it works.

The Rockers
Rockers vs Demolition (MSG, 10/24/1988) Trongard, Superstar, and Lord Al on commentary. Ax and Shawn start out. Ax shows complete dominance in strength advantage right from the get go. Ax hammers Shawn down and catches his crossbody for a big powerslam. Shawn’s punches look good here and show the contrast of the two teams strengths as they are short, fast, and compact. Smash and Marty are in now. Marty uses some stick and move tactics to avoid punishment but again get caught and this time Smash hammers him down like Ax did Shawn. Rockers hit three dropkicks and get a quick cover on Smash. Demolition regroups. Rockers start ringing out Smash’s arm and do a magnificent job of tagging in and out in a furor to the delight of the crowd. Smash misses a charge in the corner doing more damage to his shoulder. They repeat the same arm spots with Ax and the crowd is really behind them. Ax stunts all progress with a headbutt to Marty and Demo goes to work. Big double elbow from Demolition. Offense is not varied but clobbering and painful looking. However, it is very short as Marty is able to tag in Shawn. Shawn comes in a house of fire but takes a nasty tumble to the outside when Ax pulls down the ropes. Fuji gets in a cane shot on the outside. Boston crab by Demo and work continues on Shawn’s back. Bearhug utilized as Shawn has had a couple of good hope spots mixed in. Shawn has a nasty elbow smash to get out of the bearhug and hits the hot tag to Marty. Marty comes in and does a great sequence. Shawn comes back with offense too early for my liking and they do a double dropkick, double shoulderblock, and take out Fuji. Marty gets a sloppy looking splash that Smash breaks up. Smash catches Marty and Ax hits him with a huge clothesline to pick up the win for Demolition in 12 minutes. Good match but a tad disappointing based on previous watches for me. The structure of the match is very well done with speed vs. power always being an underlining theme. I just think this match had one minor flaw and one major flaw that took me out of it a little bit. The minor flaw was Shawn bouncing back after the hot tag. This seems to be something of a reoccurring theme and even 30 more seconds of Marty holding his own after the hot tag would go a long way. The bigger problem in the match to me though was the lack of urgency on Demolition’s part. One could argue that being slow and plodding is part of their work and plays into the theme of the match but we hardly got any pin attempts or any hustle when Shawn was close to making the tag. A little more enthusiasm from them would have gone a long way because from a mechanics standpoint they were fine. Most of Demolition’s charisma in this match was exemplified in the opening sequences. Overall a good match but going in I thought it might be a serious contender to the Powers of Pain match. After watching, the POP match took this template and tightened it up for an overall better performance.

[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Sting and the Black Scorpion
I don't know how but I had forgotten how awful this was. Definitely one of those embarrassed to be a wrestling fan moments. My favorite part of this was the crew trying to hold Sting back from going after the Scorpion yet they had no problem and sat on their ass while their "crew member" got yanked by this weird guy in a black robe.

[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Midnight Express vs Ricky Morton & Tommy Rich
May not be a great match per say, but certainly a tremendously fun one and one of my favorite matches of the year. I don't want to undersell Lane in this because while his strikes were not as crisp as they can be he was doing a lot of hotdogging throughout the match that was tremendously entertaining. Beautiful curtain call for the MX. I have also always loved the setting of Havoc 90 besides that terrible blood red mat color.

Where the Big Boys Play #34
Thanks a lot Shoe. Clash 6 is a real fun show overall and the main event held up. I was actually slightly dreading watching it based on a. me thinking I might be too nitpicky on the match and b. I am sure its a match we have seen multiple times so it doesn't seem like unchartered waters. However, when watching the match real analytically you do pick up on little themes and developments that just enrich the match. A true classic all around.
