[1990-08-27-AWA] Harley Race vs Larry Zbyszko
Final farewell to AWA. The bump Harley took to the outside and the brawling was good. His face lock did look vicious while he jawed with the fans. I have enjoyed seeing the Harley comeback.

The Rockers
Rockers vs Conquistadors (Boston Garden, 9/7/1988) I can never tell the Conquistadors apart so this may be helter skelter reviewing. Lord Al, Billy Graham, and Sean Mooney are on commentary. Conquistadors get early advantage with arm drags and slams. Them strutting and celebrating is great and gets Lord Al all excited. Rockers return with their standard flash segment of double team moves and stereo dropkicks sending the Conquistadors to the outside. Rockers are working on the arm and Graham calls for them to take off the mask of the conquistadors. Marty gets an assist from Shawn as he performs a monkey flip on both Conquistadors. Mooney keeps confusing Shawn and Marty. Really nice splash by Shawn on the arm of the Conquistador. Conquistadors finally gain the advantage with a shot to the kidneys of Marty from the apron of the Conquistador. Marty does really good bumping and they are working over the back of Marty. The offense from the Conquistadors is not really impressive and mainly consists of them clubbing the back. Graham says this match has been 2/3rd dominated by the Conquistadors which is completely insane. We are eight minutes in and they have been on offense for around two of those. Decent backbreaker from the Conquistador but this face in peril segment is not real inspiring and the crowd is dead. We then get the dreaded nerve hold which is a staple of any foreign heel. This mercifully doesn’t last too long and Marty gets a hope spot with a splash for two. Marty takes the best bumps on back drops. Really terrible clothesline thrown by the Conquistador and Al gets all pissed at the way he covered marty. We get a double clothesline that looks real bad to and Marty is able to hot tag in Shawn. Shawn shows good fire but misses a dropkick by a country mile. Big fistdrop by Shawn and the Conquistadors run into each other and a big splash from Shawn finishes off the match in around 12 minutes. Not a very good debut for the Rockers. I place a lot of the blame with the Conquistadors as their offense looked clunky and weak. However, the Rockers were a little sloppy and uncoordinated to. The crowd was also pretty indifferent. Certainly much better things are ahead.

The Rockers
I rewatched the Powers of Pain vs. Rockers MSG 1/15/90 match again last night and think it may be the best WWF tag match from 1985-1995. However, while watching it sort of struck me as to whether this match being great was a result of the Rocker's WWF formula being perfected or them actually adapting to really play up the POP strengths in a way no other teams did. As a result, I decided to do a huge revisit on the Rockers WWF stuff on the P2B board and figured I could cross reference my reviews here.

[1990-08-26-CWA] Owen Hart vs Dave Finlay
Didn't like this very much either. It has a cool setting but again Owen fails to grab me around this time as why I should be drawn into his matches beyond the highspots. I thought we were on to something about halfway through with him throwing uppercuts and Finlay tumbling to the outside but it was broken up by the round ending. Disappointing.

[1990-08-25-USWA-Championship Sports] Chris Adams vs Ed Robinson
We get the stipulations played out for the upcoming match. Percy didn't fool many in the crowd because tons of people were pointing him out before Adams got in the ring. Percy with the back open of his dress is a hideous site. He truly is the ugliest man dressed as a woman I have ever seen. Great beatdown to set up the penalty box cage mix tag.

[1990-08-25-USWA-Memphis TV] Eddie Gilbert vs Cowabunga
Cowabunga getting boos amused me and Dave Brown. I agree with Shoe that while this was amusing with the tickling it didn't exactly make Eddie look like much of a threat. Eddie saying that this is not the bedroom after he gets tickled was nice. Ending again made Eddie look weak relying on Lowe to save him.

Where the Big Boys Play #32
That is sort of what I was alluding to Solomon in talking about how facets of this feud in real life were paralleled on screen. I didn't want to say it with 100% certainty because I don't think Steamboat has ever publicly talked about it but the evidence is mounted that Bonnie really controlled Ricky during this time and heavily influenced his decision making.

Cage match looked awesome. Seeing this done in 1990 makes USWA look even more pathetic in 1994 when they redo the same Gilbert stuff with the mask and everything.

[1990-08-25-WWF-Superstars] Summerslam Report w/Gene Okerlund
Man I love gene running down the card. Warriors promo was fine. The Snake vs. Bad News shit is so hokey. Shame about Tito vs. martel as that could have been a fun 8 minute match.

[1990-08-25-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Hulk Hogan & Big Boss Man
Poor Tugboat, nice knowing ya. Bossman as an enforcer for Hogan makes a lot of sense. Pretty good promo from Hogan again jabbing with brother love. Vince must have loved their dynamic with each other.

[1990-08-24-NWA-Power Hour] Louisville Slugger: Ric Flair
Green screen does take some out of this and who knows this could have been done early in the morning with Flair not exactly in the best position. The booking has really gone off the rails as Flair seems so rambled jumping from Black Scorpion to the Turner execs. He also was arguing with Sting about his rematch a few days ago and now is rehashing his feud with Luger for the Clash.

[1990-08-24-EMLL] Atlantis & Angel Azteca & Javier Cruz vs El Dandy & El Satanico & Emilio Charles Jr
Probably my second favorite EMLL trios on the set so far. This was also my favorite Satanico performance of the year as he was grinding it out on the mat and mixing it up. His facial expression when offering Azteca his hand was awesome. Dandy was also great begging off from Atlantis in their first exchange. I do wish the second and third falls were a bit longer but this was really good stuff overall.
